12 of Boston’s Best Beers That Aren’t IPAs | Eater Boston

"This North Shore brewery is perhaps best known for its eponymous ale, but the star of its roster is Farm House, a saison. An homage to beer originally brewed by farmers in Wallonia — the French-speaking part of Belgium — Ipswich’s version is slightly spicy and citrusy, with a creamy finish typical of a good saison. This beer pairs incredibly well with oysters and is available year-round. Availability: Ipswich Ale Brewery’s restaurant, the Brewer’s Table, is currently open for takeout as well as indoor and outdoor dining. Farm House is available on draft and for purchase onsite in crowlers, cases, and six-packs. It’s also available at stores around the region." - Terrence Doyle

We came for lunch on a rainy Sunday afternoon. The decor is typical brewery; Edison lights, some high tops, some low tops, lots of wood, you get the idea. Our server came right over for a drink order. I had a lemon blueberry shandy and then a raspberry berry sour. Both beers were good, but nothing special. I enjoyed that the raspberry wasn’t too sour. We started with a poutine appetizer which was delicious, and entrees included a burger, a fish sandwich, and a Korean bowl. No complaints. My fish sandwich was really good, and the tater tots were perfectly crispy. The server didn’t write anything down, and got everything right, very impressive! We will definitely go back.

My Boston native friend Janelle and New Yorker native me enjoyed the experience at the Ipswich Ale Brewery. Staff are friendly, beer selections are great, and we had a great time tasting beer flight with hearty sandwiches on Sat afternoon. (My fried chicken sandwich was a bit overcooked, but it's ok.) The bar counter is nice and interesting with an old fashioned car inside. There's outdoor seating available, too! This place is very relaxing and good for couples/friends/families!!

Google
Ipswich Ale Brewery in Ipswich, MA for a flight+ & a pint of some delicious New England suds. This was my first trip here so I was like a kid in a candy store except there was no candy, just a bunch of craft beer. I hadn't tried anything from these guys either, but saw they were only 45min from where I moved recently so I figured I'd make the trip. I had no idea that they had been in operation since 1991, making them the Massachusetts North Shores oldest brewery. They have a bunch of different styles, with ales seemingly being the main focus, but I figured I would try as many as I could. This job is hard, but somebody has to do it. 🍻🍻🔥💪☘ The first taster in my flight of four was the AMERICAN LAGER that I personally thought was excellent & a above average lager for sure. My second 4oz taster was the IPSWICH PILSNER that was another good light offering from these guys. Definitely off to a good start beer wise here so far. The third taster was the BLUEBERRY SHANDY that was just okay, but I'm not big into shandy's or radler's, I may just need to find the right one. The last 4oz I scooped was the CRANBERRY BERET Fruited Sour which was a average sour, I enjoyed it more than the shandy though. I then grabbed a pint of the flagship IPA simply named IPA, a above average delicious offering as far as American IPAs go. I finished off my visit with another 4oz taster of the HELLBOUND Barleywine, a yummy barleywine packed with tons of flavor & notes raisins & caramel. 🍻🍺🔥☘☘ I got a cheeseburger for lunch with tots (one of my many weaknesses) as a side to soak up the beer. The burger was good, but nothing crazy that I would go out of my way for again if I returned to the area. All the usual seating options with a big bar, hightops, tables & patio. The bartender was super friendly & sociable letting us know what was most popular beers were & the beers he personally liked himself. Plenty of beer to go as well for home or tastings with friends. Well worth checking out if you're in the area, they have a style of beer for everyone. 🍻🍻🔥☘✌♥️🍺 BEERGASM RATING - 69/90 🍻🍻🍻🔥🔥🔥🍆🍆🍆💦💦💦🏆☘✌♥️🍺 #wildweekend #craftbeer #supportlocal #beerstagram #BeerGoals #untappd #NewHampshire #newengland #newhampshireeats #beer #brewery #brewerylife #bartender #nhbrewed #nhbrewery #food #foodporn #beergasm #foodgasm #drinklocal #eatlocal #burgers #Massachusetts

Google
We've been relying on the Ipswich Ale Tapmobile for years to bring delicious beer to our annual summer party, and they always deliver an outstanding experience! This year, for our approximately 100 guests, we served three fantastic types of beer: Blueberry Shandy, American Lager, and RT 101 WC IPA. All three were a huge hit, and the quality of the beer is consistently wonderful – everyone always raves about the options. Our bartender this year, Cheryl, was absolutely great. She was incredibly friendly, kind, and handled our lively crowd with ease. She was even kind enough to take photos of us upon request, so we could remember that wonderful day! We were also thrilled that our neighbors, who happened to own corny kegs, were able to take home the leftover beer, which was a fantastic bonus! We highly recommend the Ipswich Ale Tapmobile to anyone looking to elevate their party with delicious craft beer and excellent service.

Google
Very cute place. The ac works really well. We got the Thanksgiving egg rolls and they were delish. The brewers burrito was good but he chicken was a bit dry and stringy. Tater tots crunch was on point. I enjoyed the blueberry shandy too! The waitstaff was great.

TPM

Google
The place was good you see, it has made itself you see from the barrel and added on hops on ingredients. So it's a nice place to go there. One thing, in the summer no one was there being slow because they're doing the summer active. So each seasons like this, they'd always showed up. So I do come here for 8 months. And some customers do show up. Now the best nearby brewery I ever went.

Awesome fries. Nice spot. My nashy chicken sandwich was pretty darn good. I'd go back.

Google
Beautiful night out on the deck with our puppies. Food came out quick, friendly, attentive servers. Menu is diverse with a few gluten-free and generally healthy options. Everything we ordered was delicious. Those tater tots were perfectly crunchy. Tried a new beer and was not disappointed.

Yelp
Amazing Brewery with fantastic beer and great food. Service is excellent! One of the best authentic Breweries I've ever been to and I have traveled the world as a flight attendant.

Yelp
So thankful we stopped there after a day on the beach in Ipswich!! Sat outside. Our server (Caroline) was absolutely amazing!!! So polite, so friendly, so welcoming. No stress! "Take your time! Would you like to try this or that before you order?". Phenomenal! Beer was good. Weather was nice! Will definitely go back when I'm close to Ipswich!!

Yelp
We stumbled upon this brewery randomly one day post beach. We were having lunch+dinner essentially as it was around 3pm. They have TVs to watch live games which was great! The peach&raspberry sangria special was tasty. The lobster, bacon, gouda & tomato (lbgt) burger sandwich was sooooo good! Such an interesting combo. We had a lovely time so I would recommend for the vibes and food. Servers were friendly as well

Yelp
Whenever I come here for lunch with my coworkers, I always leave feeling full and satisfied. The waitress was welcoming and polite and always checked in if we needed anything. The food also came out pretty quickly which is a plus when you're hungry! I also love the variety of menu items, I would order everything if I could. One of the chefs even gave us samples of the day's specials. The clam pizza was super yummy, and they should consider putting it on the permanent menu! Instead, I tried the Corned Beef Reuben sandwich which had sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, and 1000 islands sauce on griddled marble rye bread. It was the perfect combination of richness and tanginess. And you can never go wrong with a side of tots. I'm not much of a beer drinker, so I can't speak much to that. if you want a quick bite in the area, I recommend this place!

Yelp
Excellent atmosphere with a great selection of beer and food. Big windows to see the brewing area too.

Yelp
Decided to pop in for a girls night dinner while we're in town! Food was delicious, service was wonderful! Parking was a little rough but overall delicious
google avatar

Kristi W.

Yelp
It was a super busy night, but they found us a table for 10 and served us drinks quickly. Food was a little slower, so if you're hungry order an appetizer. The appetizers are super yummy and honestly we should have ordered three. Beer and cider was delicious and the salads were a bit heavy on the lettuce minus the other tasty ingredients. Overall it was a great stop!

Marie M.

Yelp
Fun stop on our Fall trip. Beer, wine and food were very good. Nice atmosphere. Took some good beer home as well. Will definitely go back.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious soft pretzels and chicken sandwich. Lots of fresh brews to choose from and very friendly service. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
I came here with my whole family and it was pretty good. Food was good and the service was really friendly. We all sat in a booth and enjoyed ourselves. We did a lot of appetizer sharing and the drinks were good. Nothing spectacular to report here, but it was fine. My cousin is gluten free and she found things to eat too.
google avatar

Yelp
Can't believe I haven't left a review for Ipswich ale yet! My family and I have been here too many times to count. We love the beer, food, service, outdoor seating, kid friendly, dog friendly atmosphere. They are one of our go-to places in the area when you're looking for good food and beer. Booths make it super easy for my 2 year old to hang out. We always get the thanksgiving egg rolls and they always good sandwiches and pizza. If family is ever in town, it's a place we know we can take them and they'll be happy. If you're in the area, definitely check it out. It's more of a restaurant vibe than a brewery vibe but worth it!
google avatar

Yelp
I'm used to breweries where the beer is delicious, but there are few food options, and what food options exist are mediocre. NOT TRUE HERE! The food is remarkably delicious at the Brewer's Table at Ipswich Ale Brewery. Really, really good. Burgers, steak salad, chicken sandwich, LBGT (Lobster, Bacon, Gouda, Tomato), have all been superb. We've never done dessert because all have a lot of dairy (more dairy-free options please!) but those LOOK tasty as well. To be honest, the only things I've ever had here that haven't been excellent are some of the beers ;-)
google avatar

Yelp
This is another place that was on my list from back in 2018 when I worked in the area for a few months. Finally made it and was able to share it with a friend. We mostly just came for the food but we did not leave disappointed. Food was excellent! I had the Reuben which was really good. Those are the kind of sandwiches that I will only get unless I know it's going to be good and I was not disappointed. My friend had the chicken sandwich which was full of flavor and full of pickles. We also shared the poutine which was covered in gravy and pork. It was good but the gravy was a little bit bland. Great service and it was a great evening to sit outside. Would recommend!

Yelp
We had a great time last night at The Brewer's Table at Ipswich Ale! This was the perfect stop after an outstanding kayak trip through the estuary. This was certainly not our first time here but we hadn't been in years! The food, beer and service were all excellent! We were greeted right away on this busy Saturday by a very friendly host who promptly cleared and cleaned a table for two for us. Nicole, our server got us started with our beer 101 for me and a 1620 for my husband. These are both IPA's which have been staple at Ipswich Ale for years, really enjoy both! Now, Thanksgiving Egg rolls! Just divine! Turkey, stuffing and sweet potato with a cranberry dipping sauce! Hot, crispy, savory with that sweet sauce! Wow! We decided to stick with another app for the next round of beers! This time I ordered the Chucktoberfest and Emmanuel had the Pumpkin Pumpkin. I'm not normally a huge Oktoberfest beer lover but I'm so glad I tried this one! It was a little spicy, crisp and perfect on a cool, fall evening! This is one for the fire pit! My hubby's porter was also lovely! Nutmeg right up front with a not too sweet pumpkin flavor! I hate when porters are "sticky sweet" and this one is not. We didn't drink the Oatmeal Stout tonight but that's also one porter lovers will enjoy! We paired our beers with the Pot Roast Poutine! Hand cut fries with beef Harvey, cheese curds and topped with Pot Roast! This just made my heart sing, a huge portion, perfect for sharing! Nicole was super attentive, warm and welcoming! Can't wait to go back and try dessert next time!

Yelp
Large capacity brewpub off the beaten path in Ipswich, MA. Offer a variety of their beers and a standard pub menu---not exciting, but you come here for the beer, not Haut Cuisine. Appetizers of a soft pretzel and the baked brie. Both very good. Then a Brewers Burger and Fish & Chips. Good burger. Fish (Haddock) dry---most likely because it was still frozen when breaded and fried. As beer drinkers, we came to sample a few of their beers. My son had the American Lager. Standard, but good. I had the Dark Ale. Disappointing. Bitter. Not good bitter as in British and German ales, but unpleasantly bitter with a lingering aftertaste. Good service. Not sure we'd come again.

Yelp
The banjo man was the most debonare folksmen I've ever seen, he is the live rencarnstion if James bond if he decided his new profession was banjo playing instead of espionage. Instead of a knee buckling smolder he has a jovial smirk that only highlights his talent for strumming the banjo. the food and beer is great too

Yelp
Great looking menu, tiny parking lot. The hostesses clearly have no interest in helping anyone. Why 1 star with such a great looking menu? Well... I stopped with my wife for dinner. Due to diabetes and life, I cannot drink beer. I was intrigued by all the yummy menu choices. I don't drink water - I drink diet soda (again the health issues). We came in, tried to talk to the hostesses, gave up and sat at the bar. The bartender came over and I asked if there is any diet soda? Her response... no. So we left. Ipswitch Ale - why do you not provide any accommodations for designated drivers? Water or sugar soda or get out. Disappointing. It would be a nice gesture if you had something for DD/diabetic customers that want to try the food on your menu.

Yelp
Went with the family on a weekday afternoon and were over all happy with the experience. Large selection of drafts. Enjoyed the IPA Flight. They have other flights that sample other brew styles. Two had red wine and weren't very happy with it. (It is a brewery, you know...). We all enjoyed the food. We chose grilled cheese for the little one, Nashville Hot Chicken sandwiches and the Chicken Bowl. All very good. Service was very good but it wasn't very busy. I'm sure this place gets that way. Great layout inside. Was this an old brewery to begin with? Although parking is very limited and it's kind of hidden away, it's well worth a try.

Jordan L.

Yelp
The food was an absolute dream! The salad didn't have too much dressing which is usually a problem at places and was a delight! Service was great and there was a band that made my night with their talented music (haven't heard a banjo in years)
google avatar

Yelp
Breweries usually do one or the other well - beer or food. But this place did both! We had bratwurst dish (in spirit of Oktoberfest) and truffle tater tots. Omg, yum! The tater tots were cooked and seasoned so perfectly and they remained so crispy even when they cooled. We had 2 fighting- the special and IPA. For us, we personally see enjoyed the IPA flights. The interior was so cute and in theme with the Halloween! Def a place to visit if you are in the area!

Yelp
We decided to checkout a local brewery at Ipswich, MA. When we entered, we saw people dining as usual (how it used to be pre-pandemic), and the waiters walking around (with masks on). I was excited to try dining with things back to normal. We were attended to by a great server. She gave us a tasting of the beers we wanted to try, answered all questions we had. We ordered a couple of beers, and the flat bread to share. The beer was fine. The barleywine beer was strong and very interesting (you can check my rating of this beer on Untappd if interested). The blueberry shandy was a lighter beer with an interesting flavor tone that was subtly blueberry. The flat bread was absolutely delicious, and I'd definitely have it again. It wasn't too heavy. The beer was good, but nothing spectacular. I'd go to this place to try new beers, socialize and get some decent food. ALSO: this is a great place if you're going for a first date. There's enough tables and room to have a private conversation in a somewhat comfortable/unawkward setting. Overall, rating is: 50% for food, 30% for service and 20% for everything else. Food: 4 stars at 50% = 2.0 Service: 5 stars @ 30% = 1.5 Others: 4 stars @ 20% = 0.8 Total is 4.3, rounding to 4.0

Yelp
So I'm not a vegan nor am I a vegetarian but the lentil-brussel hash was pretty damn good. I did need to send it back just to heat it up a little more. And when I got it back the doubled the portion and apologized. Bravo! If u r looking for the firing breed of Brown Ale, hit this place and u won't b disappointed
google avatar

Yelp
We've been here twice and have left happy with meals and brews.
google avatar

Gale S.

Yelp
We were in the market for something on-the-way to our destination. We were frenchin' stahvin. We saw this place on the way there and said "screw the pooch, even though its a brewery, hopefully they have some decent food too". So we stopped in and got the Nashville hot chicken yammwich. When i tell you this was top Chicken yammwiches ive ever put down my vacuum-hole , im not lying to you. By the end of the sandwich, my emotions were like that viral video on the airplane of the guy aggressively going at one of the passengers saying "I WANT TO SHAKE YOUR HAND." Thats how i wanted to approach the chef after eating this sannich. 10/10 would definitely recommend .
google avatar

Diana N.

Yelp
This place was recommended to us by a local and we were happy to check this place out on a Saturday night. We were able to sit immediately at the bar. I got the Brisket plate with collard greens, jalapeño corn bread, Mac and cheese, Cole slaw, and some sauces. Everything was really good and prepared well. The service was kind and attentive. I had the raspberry sour and was pretty good. Parking can be tight but it seemed like there was parking on the side streets as well. This is a solid place to get a meal and or share some apps and brews!
google avatar

Yelp
Would love to give it more stars because the food was good and worth 4 stars. The servers were friendly and very attentive, so 5 stars for them. Management was absolutely appalling and the worst experience I have been apart of. He not only yelled at a group of children in the most disrespectful way but then proceeded to then argue with the adults too. Beyond unprofessional and I have nothing good to say about his level of customer service. Definitely NOT kid friendly and poor management.
google avatar

Robert B.

Yelp
It was not until the last late plate came that I decided on a 5. The blue cheese steak with mashed potatoes and broccolatini was perfect. The streak was perfection. Fine cut, cooked right, and very flavorful standing alone. The blue cheese was not overpowering but perfectly complimentary. The subtle wet sauce was something I don't normally go for but again, it was perfectly complimentary. The mashed potatoes were remarkable. Better than Morton's, Etc. the broccolatini was likewise perfect. Tender, flavorful, perfect. It was the end to a long rough workday, late, and with an early morning and long day to follow. Ipswich Ale has pulled this off. I'll hit the appetizers on another visit.

Amy G.

Yelp
Amazing for gluten free options!!! (Food and one gf beer) I have celiac and the manager was awesome. Can't wait to go back

Seina S.

Yelp
Even though they have their hours posted online, call ahead to make sure they're still open because you can't count on the 9pm closing time. Our plan was to end our day with dinner and beer at Ipswich Ale Brewery. We were looking forward to it. We got there at 8pm and was told they closed 30 minutes ago because they weren't busy. Closing an hour and a half early is a ridiculous way to run your business. We went to another location for dinner and Ipswich Ale was on draft. But we've now decided to boycott their beer.
google avatar

Mira S.

Yelp
Thanksgiving egg rolls with cranberry dipping sauce are delicious, mostly stuffing with a bit of turkey and a bit of yam. They were out of the poutine and the mango meatloaf on one visit, which was crushing. The beer selection looks good. No mixed drinks. They have unsweetened iced tea and were attentive with my friend's refills. They carry local boutique soda. Friendly staff. We ended up with the steak and the patty melt. On another trip, I tried the meatball sammich and my friend tried the Reuben. Both were solid, nothing to write home about but a good stop on a road trip around Boston. You can get fries or greens with a sammich, and the greens are a nice mixed green like, just greens not a full salad. The space is comfortable. They have a separate room in the back where one good have events.
google avatar

Jessica P.

Yelp
Started with a flight and finished with an appetizer. I would say everything was delicious and staff was great. Would suggest a little more goat cheese on the bake for $11. Granted my pic is eaten off... there was very little cheese and lots of tomatoes.
google avatar

Alik W.

Yelp
There's many things to like about this place. The beer selections are of course great, with a few Ipswich items I've never seen in a store. I highly recommend getting a tasting flight, it's the best way to really appreciate what they do beyond their flagship IPA. They are solidly family friendly, with seating and menu items that work for kids. (Really, when half the things come from a fryer, your kids will be happy.) There's plenty of space -- we've been able to walk in on weekends and easily get seated for a four-top. Staff are generally pretty friendly. My only critique is that the website tends to get out of sync with the menu, so that they'll have things listed on the internet and then they won't be available when you're actually in the pub. If you have a little picky eater who had her heart set on something, that gets a little tricky. Thankfully, the beer helps with not being bothered by the fussing...

Yelp
A new favorite! The atmosphere is wonderful - lots of natural wood and concrete floors, with huge stainless tanks looming beyond the windows, and warm pendant lighting. Beer is amazing, of course, and the food is terrific. I've had mussels, chowder,- lobster BLT, and I forget what else - kid had short rib stew which looked incredible, and hubby had brats. Try the blueberry shandy! Tonight (Thursday) there's live music, nice acoustic stuff that you can sing along to, but not so loud that you can't, you know, converse. We discovered this gem a week ago and are already back for more.
google avatar

Kevin L.

Yelp
Great bustling atmosphere. Lots of beer selections. Our waitress Cammi was friendly and engaging. The fish and chips were particularly tasty and perfectly cooked.
google avatar

John T.

Yelp
Great space with large wrap around bar. Overlooking the production line. Upscale comfort food. I got a flight if beers. Gf got the patty melt. She loved it. I got the trio of Shephard's pie. Was very good all of them. Good dish for a rainy day! Staci took care of us. She did a great job. We will def. be back.

Yelp
I'd heard about this pub for a while and chose it to bring a friend who moved here from Portland, OR. He said it hit the note for him because it reminded him of all the fantastic brew pubs in Portland and so did the restaurant vibe. The beer flavors were unique and delicious and the food from the flat bread pizza to the fish and chips was just fantastic.

Yelp
I live in Orlando and have in laws in Hampton, NH but I always make plans to come for a visit to this brewery every trip up. I am a home brewery my self and appreciate the quality beers this brewery puts out. The oatmeal stout is by far one of my favorite brews I've ever had and I have visited over 80 breweries between here and Florida. Last time I was there I ordered the German Style sausage platter and it was impressive as well complimenting the brews! Go here with no hesitation you won't regret it. Derek, Orlando, FL

Yelp
Beer is great! This was my 4th time to this place. Sadly, it will be our last. The food was bland and nowhere near as good as it was the past few years. The waitress was rude to my 70 year old mother, twice. So don't bring your grandma here or your baby, you will just annoy the blond bar tender and her cheap sarcasm. Sad....
google avatar

Bill P.

Yelp
Visited as a party of three adults and one child on a Sunday at noon time. The place had almost as man kids as adults when we walked in. Which is why we were a bit surprised they offered no high chairs or booster seats. We read a note on the menu that reminded parents to keep their children seated - which is fine. But the menu note was a bit ironic considering they gave you no assistance in keeping your child safely seated...Try keeping a 18 month old seated in a traditional chair for an hour! It's not easy. We waited about 10 minutes for a server once we were seated. Not overly long wait, but not fast either. The beer selection was wide ranging and good - only except that the staff didn't drink beer (I assume because they are not of age) and were not able to answer any questions about the beer menu. The food was fairly priced and as expected. We got burgers and their fried chicken sandwich - All pretty good!
google avatar

John S.

Yelp
This place is so good! Service is friendly, prompt and efficient. I can't believe someone complained about bland food! Last time I was here I ordered the brat plate. It was so good I called the manager over to rave about everything on the plate: amazing German potato salad, great brats made with Ipswich Ale, sauerkraut was full of flavor, and even the marbled rye went above and beyond. (We all had great beer of course too) Just went back this weekend and brought my brother and mother-in-law. More great beer including their new Spruce Tip IPA. Convinced my mother-in-law to get the brat plate with me and we both raved about all the flavors! Amazing! We've also gotten the LBGT, the spinach and squash salad, one with chicken, one with salmon, and oh! The bread pudding for dessert was to die for. Prices are very reasonable for a dinner out (hard pressed to find great table service with $17 entrees these days) and did I mention the FRESH beer?

Vicky T.

Yelp
GREAT beer selection, great casual pub atmosphere with indoor & outdoor seating available. Good pub menu choices too - everything we had was good. Despite the challenge of having to both bartend & wait on tables our server did an excellent job!! Would definitely recommend.

Charlotte D.

Yelp
Great beer and the food is good here, but they don't have high chairs! Just a heads up to families thinking of coming, you'd have to bring your own or hold your baby.

Yelp
I've gone to Ipswich quite a few times since i moved to the north shore and every time i leave i tell myself i should write a good review for these guys because they're always on point. Seriously. Their service, their food, the environment, its all really impressive because they have a great team doing an awesome job. Anyway, I somehow always get distracted and forget to leave a review, but thats probably because most people dont really leave good reviews when they are given great service...still, i think these guys really deserve recognition for being an awesome brewery so here it goes... First and foremost, their thanksgiving roll appetizers are, no joke, incredible...incredible. I order them every time i go and they never get old. Their LBGT sandwich is as brilliant as it is delicious. My favorite plates are the Mango Bbq Meatloaf and the Hops Blue Steak...but picking just two is pretty difficult. I cant say anything about their desserts because I've yet to have any actually...but thats only because i'm normally too full from dinner/lunch and forget to leave any room. As far as beers, i personally love stouts and porters and their Oatmeal stout is normally my go to whenever i visit but i just recently had their Sled Dog Winter Ale and their Pesky Pilsner and they were both really great. Most, not all, of their beers lean more on the hoppy side but they still have a big variety and you're sure to find a brew that suits you. Last, I want to mention that while putting together a holiday party for my team (...we're all Active Duty) Ipswich Ale House came to mind and I am so glad they did. Myles, their General Manager was so incredibly helpful and really went the extra mile (no pun intended) to make the dinner party a memorable experience. The team spent the night and the day after talking about how it was one of our best Holiday dinner/parties to date. I also want to give a shoutout to Lucas our server who did an impressive job serving the group that night. You guys are awesome and I already cant wait to go back for some Thanksgiving Egg Rolls and a beer!

Yelp
My husband and I don't drink beer/ale, but we'd heard good things about this place. Didn't disappoint. Atmosphere is lively and friendly, but not annoying noisy. My husband raved about the vegetarian chili. I also enjoyed the veggie nachos - HUGE platter. Service was very good - waitress apologized repeatedly for first bringing me chicken nachos instead of veggie nachos. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in Ipswich.

Yelp
Hell must have frozen over because I drank a beer.... I *thought* I hated beer. Upon learning that's all they serve, what's a girl to do?? The bartender has apparently dealt with people like me before because she immediately offered up a blueberry shanty and dare I say it was delicious? The decor is awesome - they really did a beautiful job. I had the half roasted chicken, served in a cast iron pan with a scorched lemon and Yukon potatoes. Hubs had the blue cheese steak.... And the blue cheese butter? Yep, made with beer. Both were outstanding. Service was prompt and the bartender was awesome. Can't wait to go back and they the boar and bison bolognese!.... Hell has definitely frozen over.

Yelp
Consider this: it is a pub. And also this: it is a pub inside one of the oldest microbreweries in the US--opened a couple of years after Sam Adams. Their beers are phenomenal and they have a really wide variety on offer that rotates regularly. So on that front, automatic 5 stars. But back to the first point. Pub food is almost always OK. It's almost always really predictable, with predictably average service. And it is almost always saved by the beer. But in this case, the restaurant would be open without a beer and wine license because their menu is loaded with quality, varied items and the wait staff is super kind and tries really hard to make you feel welcome and taken care of. If I had a criticism it would be that there should be one more vegetarian item on offer that is geared toward taste, not health. Vegetarians aren't always just aiming to be healthier, you know? Meat eater should go for the patty melt (over the burger) and every dinner should finish with the brownie skillet with vanilla ice cream.

Yelp
Excellent food and excellent service - staff was welcoming and friendly. The food was delicious as were the beers. Our waiter was very informative and knowledgeable. Already trying to figure out how we can fit in this establishment again into our short visit to the area.

Yelp
Great food and a cool space - you should come here and create a memory. Let me tell you a quick story about their oatmeal stout that we made memorable for about 10 of my closest friends years ago. Back in the day, like 15 years ago, my brother in law found a nebuchanezzar of their oatmeal stout. That's a big beer. Look it up. It's like MANY liters. Feed a group of 10 friends many liters. Was cookoo amazing good and tonight, it held up on tap. We'll be petitioning for that format again and re-living the experience as soon as possible and you should too.
