Great Seattle Restaurants For Dining Solo

"We like Kamei for a few reasons. First, the people running it are super nice. Second, the sushi is reliably good. Third, the prices are extremely reasonable. So all in all, it’s the perfect place to eat a casual dinner and finally text your mom." - aimee rizzo

My first experience with this cafe was very disappointing. I ordered three items for pick-up, but they didn’t look anything like the photos on the menu. I waited outside for my order for 30 minutes. There were two empty tables, and I wanted to stay and eat right away, especially since my order was brought out 10 minutes later than expected — 40 minutes in total. The waitress was not polite and told me I had to sign up for the waitlist before I could sit down to eat. I left upset and hungry. I do not recommend Irashai Sushi.

Google
Irashai never misses! My husband and I go weekly and it always hits the spot. The sushi is wonderful and fresh, but my favorite thing about Irashai is the staff. They are always sweet, accommodating, and welcoming. The food comes out quickly and is consistently delicious. Try the Crunch roll! Perfect cozy date night spot 💗

Google
Small sushi spot! We tried the lobster roll and it came out with a fun tower! I would not recommend the Calamari though. Atmosphere is small and family oriented.

Google
Irashai is hands down my favorite sushi spot in Seattle! The fish is insanely fresh, and the kitchen staff is impressively quick. I love this place so much that me and my boyfriend go at least once a month. The wait staff is incredibly kind, and we've had the pleasure of getting to know Nomi, she's super friendly and attentive! Every roll I've tried here has been delicious, but a few favorites that stand out are the Superstar, Red Crunch, and Lady in Red. The otoro is also a must-try! What I really appreciate is the casual, laid-back atmosphere—it's not uppity like many other sushi joints. Irashai is a true gem!

Google
TDLR: great sushi at a decent price and fast service We came in for a very early dinner and were seated at the table right away. By the time it was 5:30, there were already people on the waitlist. Between the two of us we ordered 4 sushi rolls and 1 egg roll. It might have been too much in the end given that their rolls are massive. Sushi rolls : cucumber maki, vegan dragon roll, irashai roll, double double roll. All of them were really good and the fish was fresh. The price to quality ratio is really quite superb here.

Google
Irashai is a super cozy, quaint spot with delectable sushi, appetizers, and bento boxes. Is nothing fancy, but teleported me to a homey place with ambient lighting and soft music playing in the background. The sushi was delicious but my favorite was the takoyaki and the fried oysters. We were very full after ordering two appetizers and four rolls. Next time we’ll just order three rolls for two people. The servers were really nice and attentive 10 out of 10. Overall, I’m super stoked to come back and I can’t wait to have more.

Google
I had to wait 1 hour and 20 minutes for food to be ready. Arrived at the exact time. I waited in line another 30 minutes, and the food had not even started. I was told to wait another 30 minutes for food. Somehow, they cooked it under 15 minutes (2 boxes and 1 sushi). Threw away almost all the chicken - burnt on the outside and undercooked inside. Disgusting. It was the worst experience ever. I hope I won't throw up tonight.

Google
Ordered take out to try this place and the sushi was incredible! Tried the Dragon Rolls with eel and wow, delicious! Found my new Sushi place as a new resident to the area. Look forward to trying other rolls and sashimi. Highly recommend!

Yelp
This sushi spot has been my husband and I's favorite sushi spot for years, and everyone we have taken has LOVED it as well! We always receive great customer service from the hosts and servers, and the sushi is consistently amazing. I love the intimate setting and ambiance of this restaurant. It has beautiful Japanese art and a gorgeous chandelier! It's THE BEST SUSHI!!! Some of our favorites to order are the baked lobster roll (that's the one on the descending display), kiss of fire (the one with jalapeños), the Tiger roll, the west Seattle, and the Scallop Fantasia. This place will not disappoint you! Just make sure to check their open times and days before you go, because it's not open 7 days a week.

Yelp
Best sushi in West Seattle. Big portions, nirigi and the rolls were executed well, and all for a very reasonable price. - their Chu toro was excellent. Loved their seared sake. Melts in your mouth and super flavorful. The place is cozy but small- so there is often a line. But it is worth the wait. Favorite: Irashai roll Uni nigiri Sushi omakase.

Yelp
This is a hole in the wall spot. It is a small restaurant on the strip. There is only street parking available but definitely can find parking on the street or in the neighborhood. Food, it was great. We ordered 3 rolls ans all 3 was amazing!! Will definitely be coming back! The service was pretty good as well.
google avatar

Natasha R.

Yelp
This is my second visit - it has been fresh and delicious both times. The inside is small and intimate. It is clean and the service is great! Last time the street parking proved to be difficult, this visit I found a spot just a few doors down.

Yelp
A very delicious sushi shop located in west Seattle on California avenue. They had a variety of classics, sashimi, special rolls and even vegan rolls. We ordered some yellowtail sashimi, spicy tuna roll, vegan red roll and the ultra albacore roll. Everything was fresh and they provided us with lots of ginger and wasabi (which was requested when we ordered). The special rolls and vegan rolls were a bit pricey but worth it! Apparently it is also woman owned!

Yelp
This small, local sushi restaurant is located in West Seattle (California x Admiral Way). There is a small, shared parking lot in the back of the restaurant. You are also able to enter through the back door from the parking lot to get inside of the restaurant instead of walking around to the front. It was a bit awkward doing that, but it seemed normal to have customers do that. Our group was a group of three and we were seated right away. I ordered the Sushi Omaskase Plate, which is served with a salad and miso soup. This comes with chef's choice of eight pieces of nigiri. Not the traditional way of how omaskase is done, but it was still a good presentation. I also ordered the Seared Salmon roll. I was surprised how full I got off of these two items. We also ordered two appetizers to share between the group, Oyster Tempura and Takoyaki. The Oyster Tempura was okay, not what I expected, but it was good. The Takoyaki was pretty standard. Pretty solid spot with fresh fish in West Seattle, which is convenient if you are in the area and don't want to go to the heart of Seattle!

Yelp
Great food and quick service. Highly recommended for anyone looking for good Asian food in the area.
google avatar

Yelp
This was a local sushi restaurant that was nearby when I was visiting the West Seattle area and I decided to try out some of their advertised sets (highlighted in pictures on their menu). I enjoyed the sashimi set the most as the fish was incredibly fresh and tender. The service was quick, fast, and the waitress was incredibly kind as she helped us get all of our food. The restaurant itself was quiet, clean, and it seemed like a place where many small groups or people on dates tend to go. I'd come back here again for the sashimi set and for the sushi set.
google avatar

Drew J.

Yelp
The mouthfeel of the fried vegan California roll is incredible and the vegan dragon roll with the eggplant based unagi is just incredible!
google avatar

Nicole M.

Yelp
4 stars for service and cooked items on the menu the raw fish was beautifully presented but just OK.

Brenda H.

Yelp
Service n ambiance was good, but d fried calamari was so little in portion n chewy. I wish they wud bring back their good desserts from two years ago.
google avatar

Kayla A.

Yelp
All three times I have tried to go here they have said they are closed before 8:30. They would not take my online order right now and It is 7:30. Their website says they close at 8:30. I would suggest they update their website to reflect the fact their kitchen ALWAYS "closes" at 7:30.

Jordan W.

Yelp
Everything tastes delicious, I've eaten here several times. They deliver to White Center which was a nice surprise. However, the amount of calamari was disappointing. But flavors were great!

Casey J.

Yelp
Amazing sushi. Best in Seattle. Busy little place, amazing service and comfy atmosphere. Fresh fish was tasty and had a lovely presentation. Highly recommend stopping in or making a special trip. You will not be disappointed.
google avatar

Ro B.

Yelp
Fresh and delicious!!! Excellent service very friendly staff. From the sake to the Rolls, everything was spectacular! Definitely a must try!

zoe n.

Yelp
The only place I will order sushi from in West Seattle. Varied menu, reasonable price for the times, good fish, nice staff.
google avatar

Marjorie H.

Yelp
First time going here. Pleasant place , nice people. ordered 2 bento box dinners. Unfortunately nothing tasted fresh, very disappointing. The sushi taste sour, couldn't eat it, and everything tasted prepackaged poor quality The chicken was probably the only thing recently cooked and it was very fatty and Chewy . total waste of money. Mj

Yelp
This is one of our favorite regular sushi spots! The food is always fresh, sake selection is on point, and the tempura is the perfect texture. Our favorite part is the people, the staff are so friendly and helpful, and the decor is cohesive, unique, and beautiful. We can't say enough good things about Irashai Sushi, we love this place!!!!!
google avatar

David J.

Yelp
There isn't a lot of choice when it comes to sushi or Japanese food in general in West Seattle. Thankfully, Irashai is great. I routinely get sushi takeout from here - they're quick to fill the orders and the staff is always pleasant and friendly. The non-sushi part of the menu is also really solid. Glad to have this place close by for my sushi needs.

Shelby G.

Yelp
This is by far the best sushi I've had in Seattle! The most vegan options I've ever seen in my whole life ! Great service too , Workers provide a kind, welcoming and quick service ! I go out of my way to eat at this location because it is THAT GOOD!
google avatar

Lauren L.

Yelp
A friend recommended Irashai in West Seattle and it did not disappoint! Fantastic and FRESH nigiri and sushi rolls. Their take out presentation was gorgeous and their Otoro Nigiri was even embellished with edible gold. Sushi restaurants are typically pricey, and this wasn't an exception, but for the quality and quantity we received it was worth the price. I will definitely go here next time I have a craving for top shelf Japanese cuisine.
google avatar

Natalie W.

Yelp
I tried their sushi today with my friend. She had recommended this spot and I am so glad she did. The sushi and staff were great. It's a cozy little spot and I love the menu options. There's just enough options without the menu being overwhelming. I got the tempura shrimp and the Las Vegas roll without the eel. The roll was a good size and had a lot of filling- they were not skimpy like some places. The batter on the shrimp tempura was light and perfectly crunchy and the sauce added the perfect touch. All of the food is very fresh. The staff was very good at being attentive and making sure we did not need anything else without being a bother to us. I will definitely be returning and recommending Irashai to my friends.
google avatar

Jennifer V.

Yelp
Our server and food were excellent! First time here and won't be my last. The rolls are so good. Black widow, Lady in red were delicious!
google avatar

Jamie C.

Yelp
I'm no sushi expert and I usually don't like it that much unless it's very fresh or expensive. This place is delicious with every plate served as an art piece. It all tasted very fresh as well. It cost about as much as anywhere else in Seattle but I would return. Very nice indoor dining experience.
google avatar

Jennifer H.

Yelp
Stellar food and service!!! Get there early as seating is extremely limited - maybe 6 tables for two to four people each
google avatar

MyAnne K.

Yelp
Irashi does it right. What a perfect little neighborhood sushi restaurant. Moderately priced. The first time I ate here was a pickup order. I took the food home, and to my surprise the sushi looked spectacular as I was unwrapping it! Great rolls. Black widow is my favorite. Hamachi with jalapeño, citrus and tobiko. The sashimi platter was so yummy packed with thick slices of fresh fish. Bluefin toro is THE BEST! I dined in the second time around. About 6 small tables total in the restaurant. And it was packed! Great service. I love my new neighborhood sushi joint!

Colin W.

Yelp
The severs were very nice the food came fast, a nice sushi restaurant. Best sushi in west Seattle (I've been many times I personally love the lady in red roll, caterpillar roll and the sashimi.
google avatar

Roger H.

Yelp
We dined in (fully vaccinated, yahoo!) and it was delicious! The perfect meal, really. We each got a couple rolls and a delicious bottle of sake, and had two starters. Every bite and every sip was delicious!
google avatar

Roger B.

Yelp
I didn't enjoy my first experience here a couple years back but this time was successful. I had miso soup (nice), shrimp tempura (awesome), mixed nigiri (yum) and a roll. The only complaint was for the sauce on the roll which was a bit too plentiful and too sweet for me. I would probably ask for the roll without the sauce next time. Will be back.
google avatar

Drew Y.

Yelp
Amazing sushi and sashimi always fresh. Great customer service. One of the best sushi places in Seattle and that is a bold statement ! Support small business and go to Irashai Sushi! They are open during convenient times and I've been eating here for years
google avatar

Rod V.

Yelp
Great spot in Admiral! They always do a good job here, and service is typically fast and no muss, no fuss. Hubs and I kept it light this time, so we shared a seaweed salad. He got a Rainbow Roll, and I got the Black Widow roll, one of the many spicy options they have! My "dessert" is typically saba (mackerel) nigiri, and it was smooth and buttery as always. If you're in this neck of the woods, this place is worth a visit.
google avatar

Diego C.

Yelp
I thought I reviewed this already months ago, but yes 5 stars. My wife and I have gone here 2-3 times per week for the last 5 months, and I'm sure you imagine how easy it would be to get sick of a restaurant after that. But we have not for Irashai! Good food, a cozy, clean space, and the family that runs it is very nice.
google avatar

Mari S.

Yelp
This is my new sushi spot in West Seattle! Being Japanese, I'm very picky about sushi. I have go to sushi place in downtown Seattle and Bellevue but not in West Seattle until today! Due to the bridge closure, I have been looking for one here. I heard new management kicked in, and I really want to complement their Salmon and Shime Saba If you are looking to add a new sushi place to your list, I definitely recommend Irashai!
google avatar

Ryan D.

Yelp
This is the second time I've seen them having a grand re-opening- this time it was for new management. Nothing much have changed, however. Not that it's bad, but I'm just a little confused for the two grand re-openings. Staff here have always been friendly and eager to serve, never had an issue with them. Today, during COVID times my orders were always correct, and ready at their specified time. All staff do wear masks, and patrons are required to wear masks as well. Sushi here are decently priced, and they are all good! I do like how they have a vast selection of specialty sushi and simple sushi. Both are good in quality and taste. I returned and had to try out their bento box since I enjoyed it prior to the recent grand re opening.. For $17 you definitely get a lot! Side if salad, miso soup, California roll, gyoza, rice, tempura (both veggies and shrimp), and a generous amount of salmon.. definitely still a bang for your bucks! If you're in the admiral area and craving for sushi, I do recommend this place. Friendly service, decent sushi, great bento boxes and decently priced. You can order online for pickup, or delivery..
google avatar

Herschel S.

Yelp
What a wonderful little sushi spot! They were so busy on Valentines Day, but still managed to get us in a serve up some of the best sushi I have ever had. Fresh and delicious!
google avatar

Carol M.

Yelp
Fills you up fast, so warm and fresh! The takoyaki with the sauces and flakes hit the spot and nearly filled me up before I had entree. It had a little bit of octopus with mostly breading. The Yakisoba was my favorite with the vegetables and beef in that sauce (slightly sweet) - all cooked perfectly. Ended up having to take part home since I was full, but warmed up great. Definitely go again- it's a small little place in west Seattle & totally worth it!
google avatar

Kailee P.

Yelp
Service was fast, food was delicious and atmosphere was great. We got 4 rolls and a sashimi plate which came on a cute little boat and it was all fantastic. Would recommend! Love that it's close enough to walk from our apartment too.
google avatar

Lisa M.

Yelp
The sushi here is quite delicious. I enjoyed the variety and freshness in the flavors. Their service is attentive and efficient. We didn't feel rushed, nor did we feel as though we were not being catered to. In terms of the ambiance, the place is quite cramped. I would recommend that they allow for reservations. Overall, it was a pleasant experience.
google avatar

Olivia V.

Yelp
Very "hidden" spot. Shout out to our waitress/Server Scarlett for the great service and ramen flavor reccomendation the tonkotsu ramen is highly recommended and the "west seattle" roll was a perfect blend of someone who loves spicy tuna and fried food and avocado! The egg in the ramen was perfectly cooked for a boiled egg. They used a great cut of pork. The broth was super savory and the wood ear mushrooms were perfectly cooked (easily over cooked). I really liked the spicy tuna, that is always my favorite when eating sushi but often it is not as "spicy" and they seasoned it perfectly. The server was extremely polite and helpful about deciding the best ramen flavor when my partner was indecisive... also their fried oysters were literally the best "chicken nugget of the sea" I've ever had... like imagine a good tasting oyster, but with the comfort and pleasure of having fried food for the first time in your life. 9.8/10
google avatar

Robert S.

Yelp
Great place for sushi. Excellent service and ambience in the restaurant. I would recommend it to anyone
google avatar

Iryna B.

Yelp
The place actually closed and too bad they didn't post anything on the web since it took me long time to get there . There is a note on their door that they are closing their doors as of January 1st . Too bad , there are so few sushi spots in And it's opened now . Great very fresh and good portions. Wish the prices were more affordable but because of the area it's understandable that's not a possibility. The place is very quiet and besides me there was only one other person during the dinner time. Hope they ll remain open . It's clean and cozy with great soft couches and seats . The staff is very nice though not too attentive . I really recommend their rolls, they are stuffed with fresh fish and even on regular rolls they don't skim on portions . The one thing I d skip the next time is miso soup , it tastes very watered down and kinda chalky with not enough flavor and salt
google avatar

Liz K.

Yelp
First time dining in at Irashai, and it did not disappoint. The nigiri was very fresh and served with large pieces of fish. The rolls were also yummy. It is a bit on the pricey side, but really good.
google avatar

Shelby C.

Yelp
Irasha Sushi is the best sushi spot in West Seattle. We really only have 2-3 options in WS but I still prefer this place over others in town. Friendly service and quick. Highly recommend
google avatar

Dee Y.

Yelp
Ok I went back and tried a bento box everyone was raving about! Yassss the Chicken Teriyaki Bento box is so good with huge portions! I have leftovers for tomorrow's lunch! The chicken was tender and saucy (not overly, just the right amount). There is a lot of chicken there! I love that they added a lil seaweed salad to the box too! Plus you get Miso soup, salad, shrimp tempura and veggie tempura, four pieces of a Cali roll and two gyoza's!! Lots of food, plus we added the Red Crunch Roll! Yummmmmm
google avatar

Megan B.

Yelp
HMMMM... pretty confused based on these reviews. I expected much more. "One of the best sushi places in Seattle" is a bold statement and for me, a complete miss. I could argue Mashiko is one of the best. Japanessa is also fantastic at a similar price point. I live in West Seattle and wanted to love it, but it was sub-par. Maybe a step up from grocery store sushi and way overpriced for the quality and quantity. I cannot speak to a dine-in experience. We placed an order though Door Dash (which has always been fantastic) and this to-go order was just bad. It didn't include soy sauce, wasabi or ginger. The bigger disappointment for me was the imitation crab. $19.99 for a sushi roll with imitation crab and the six piece "chefs choice" sashimi (also $19.99) that included tilapia and a fake shiso leaf was an epic fail. My husband and I have high standards for sushi and unfortunately our experience tonight didn't live up to expectations.
google avatar

Julie L.

Yelp
New owners/menu. We had takeout tonight from irashai and were thoroughly impressed! Ordered various rolls, sashimi, calamari appetizer, and chicken yakisoba. All delicious! Give them a try! This is a definitely upgrade compared to what it was with the new owners.
google avatar

Jim V.

Yelp
Give this place a try! Last time we went here was about a year ago, and we weren't super impressed. My opinion has changed with the time and new management! We put in a large takeout meal and got it home without any issues. Everyone was masked up and the food was ready when they said it would be. Everything was delicious! The stand outs in our order were the deluxe sashimi plate and ultimate albacore roll. All the other rolls we tried were great too! Price on everything was very reasonable- as well as portion size. We did not go hungry! I'm Excited to have a quality sushi place in the neighborhood- and hope they are able to weather the tough times. Go and try this place out and see what you think.
google avatar

Nilesh A.

Yelp
Have been here soo many times and is our go to for sushi in west seattle. Always great sushi, fresh, tasty and always wanting more.
google avatar

Sara R.

Yelp
I just picked up my to-go order with expensive sashimi which was packed with hot entrees and soup. I spent $150 and the sushi is cooked. The portions are much tinier than they used to be and the prices are now on par with Mashiko. Never again.
