Where To Get Food From The African Diaspora In Philly

"Like Philly Elmo or Iverson, the curry goat at Irie deserves the next shoutout on Abbott Elementary. The tender cubes of lamb come floating in curry sauce that’s oniony, peppery, and has a subtle ginger flavor. The portions are also so big that you can expect every main and side dish to spill over the edges inside of the takeout tray (they don’t have a dine-in option). But we’re not complaining—a curry goat, jerk chicken, mac and cheese, or rice mashup might be the greatest Philly combination since an open parking spot and a lawn chair. " - candis mclean

Where To Catch Up With Your Friend Who Out-Summered You

"They rented a beach house in Jamaica with an ocean view, a jacuzzi, and played dancehall nonstop. Now they gag when you mention the Jersey Shore and claim their feet can only comfortably touch white sand. We don’t know if their new persona as island royalty is permanent, but we do know where you can get some great jerk wings, curry goat, and tender oxtails. Head to this takeout-only spot in Francisville for massive platters ranging from $13-$20, and while you wait, they can fill you in on their new jacked, jobless fiancé they met on the beach. " - candis mclean

Irie Jamaican Restaurant - Review - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"Like Jim Gardner and Iverson, the curry goat at Irie deserves the next shoutout on Abbott Elementary. Definitely would go back! The music is great and the food was definitely delicious and aesthetically appealing. A birthday party was present and they were of course loud and obnoxious but once they left it was very nice and quiet. The portions are pretty well balanced too!

This was my second time here. The first was for brunch but this time it was for dinner and again I had a great time. Vibes were nice (wished they played more reggae/dancehall to end the night), drinks did their job and the food from apps to entrees were delicious!

Let me start off by saying I had a wonderful time in this place. The food that I ordered was good and my drinks were delicious. A few time I felt the server was condescending, when I ordered the salt fish taco he asked me, " Do you know what salt fish is?" Which I responded, " No I just order things randomly without knowing what they are!" We also ordered so of the patties which come out on a little plate while my sister was in the middle of eating her patty the server just came by and took her plate without asking if she was done and she had to hold her beef patty in her hand because there was no place to put it. Then we felt a little rushed because he brought us the check without asking if we needed anything else. When I expressed that I might have wanted a water the server said, the kitchen and bar is closed so you're done." Even if the bar is closed they serve bottled waters and he refused to get us a water. The check came to $128 and they charged a convenience and gratuity fee, which is kind of absurd, considering how the service was and that my party was only me and one other person I would recommend trying to come during happy hour or ordering to go. It's a shame because the space was nice and I was excited to have a good experience with my sister.

The food was good but we didn't like the drinks their version of Rasta Pasta was just ok but the ackee and saltfish tacos were sooooooooo freakin good.

This place is so amazing. For my first time stepping out for a brunch this was an amazing experience. The food is good; the music is on point and it’s all just a vibe. Can’t wait to come back

Google
Irie Entree provided a wonderful atmosphere, delightful music and food, resulting in a truly enjoyable experience. I ordered the jerk chicken tacos, jerk chicken with white rice and cabbage. In honor of my birthday, they kindly offered me a complimentary choice of chocolate or red velvet cake, a complimentary drink, and played a birthday song. Our server, Sasha, was exceptional! The overall ambiance was excellent.

We absolutely loved this place. The food was flavorful, the service delightful and the establishment was joyful. Anoire was our service and she was super helpful. Get the spinach Pattie because it’s completely unassuming but so necessary. We loved everything we ordered. We loved this place so much we came back for the bottomless brunch. Make sure you make a reservation for brunch or it’s not bottomless. Do yourself a favor and go. I’m probably going for happy hour next week too. Tasha was our server for brunch and she was a sweetheart. Love this place. See the photos for pictures of what we ate.

Yelp
Went here last month on a Thursday with my Coworkers around 4pm. Parking is tight as this is right in west Philly in walking distance to the hospitals. The food was good and service was fast for us. We did get there right before a bunch of people came in. There's plenty of seating between the upstairs and downstairs space. If spicy isn't your thing you may want to eat elsewhere otherwise the menu will be limited for you. The drinks are very pretty and good also. There was a live DJ that got there a few minutes before we left so if you like entertainment you also have that. There have pictures of notable Jamaican ICON on the walls in the upstairs eating area. For 4 appetizers, 3 drinks and 2 main entrees we spent about $ 200 and change with tip.

Yelp
We went expecting to experience a Jamaican restaurant vibe. It definitely was not authentic Jamaican food. The waitress was extremely rude. Had to get another waiter her name was Sasha. The wait for your food was extremely long. Went their expecting to get jerk chicken there wasn't any! Keep in mind we drove an hour to get there. Had to make reservations put $50 down expecting it to go toward my food. I was told my reservation was canceled although it wasn't, $50 came out of my account. Not to mention I was overcharged. Don't waste your time or money going there. It was a nightmare.

Yelp
I can't believe this is my first time having a sit-down dinner at this place when I'm literally always next door to it every single day lol Stopped in to get a meal right during happy hour and oh my goodness was that second floor jumping as if there was a birthday party going on but that was just a normal Thursday!; I ordered some boneless jerk chicken breast with rice. The mill came with some complimentary cabbage and plantains which was cool. I wish the serving of cabbage was more than it was but the chicken and rice was hefty so I'm not complaining too much...but eh. I was surprised how spicy the chicken was considering the place having a real modern vibe to it. Usually the modern vibe places water the food down a bit. The server was pretty kind and didn't mind explaining the menu. As good as the food was, the drink was really good. My rum punch definitely punched home with the rum lol I can't wait! Try their happy hour one day because I love a good day party with a live DJ and happy hour specials. I did catch the happy hour special for my drink and the $7 price point was definitely worth it.

Yelp
Beautiful venue ! Good service ! Nice drinks it's definitely one of those places for aesthetics ! The food was just ok though wasn't a big fan. However It did taste better after reheating it. but I'd try them again

Yelp
The staff was rigid and unaccommodating, enforcing strict seating rules that made the whole evening feel tense instead of enjoyable when asked if our party could join another group of friends. Even ordering food and drinks came with unnecessary attitude and confusion. For a place that markets itself as "Irie" the energy was completely off. Hookah is only on Thursdays now, happy hour has changed, pricing increased. Food and drinks are amazing! But not worth staff interactions, won't be returning.

Yelp
Updating my review from my last time there which was a year ago, April 2024 to be exact, when I posted food pics. This place has very POOR customer service. The Host who says his name is Mo & the Bartender/supposed Owner are Ridiculous. I went on a Wednesday evening (April 2025) to join friends & was headed up to the bar but was stopped by the Host because he said I couldn't sit at the bar (even though I could see there were PLENTY of seats at the bar) because "I knew other people that were already seated at tables", so I was TOLD by the Host & the so called Owner that makes me AUTOMATICALLY apart of their party and so I couldn't sit at the bar. Yup, you read that right. Nope, you didn't misread it. And I repeat ...Me by myself could not sit at the empty bar because I knew people seated at tables so I had to sit at a table also. They were just plain idiots. Talking to them both was like talking to a brick wall, they had no comprehension skills, no people skills, nor no common sense. I ended up leaving because I just couldn't spend my money at a place with complete idiots running the show. I felt like I was in the twilight zone. I'm never going there again & will not be recommending this place to anybody.

Yelp
The food came hot. I ordered the quarter jerk with pineapple jerk sauce, jamrock mac and cheese, and a side of plantains. Although I ordered with grubhub and I know the price of each item is more as a result, I think this order was quite expensive for the amount of food I received. The mac was great- cheesy, creamy, and dense. And the plantains were perfectly ripe and cooked through. Although the chicken was delicious, and had a nice sweetness on the side of the heat, I would've preferred more or larger pieces and for the skin to be more crisp.

Yelp
This is great spot for happy hour!! The drinks are nice and strong for about $7 each. I had the 1st Down and the Melon Berry Lemon Drop and both were delicious. The Jerk Wings were soooo good, probably some of the best jerk wings in the city. They were perfectly charred with a nice crunch, tender and very flavorful. I have also tried the bang bang fish tacos (slightly overpriced), bang bang shrimp and jerk chicken egg rolls which were good too. I highly recommend this place for happy hour!

Yelp
Irie Entree, opened in the last two years, is one of the better restaurants in University City. With a vast variety of Jamaican food and decor, the food stands to be a wonderful centerpiece of it all. I can't seem to find the pictures, but I had the oxtail and plantains. While it was a bit pricy, it was a wonderful, flavorful experience that stood out to me. The cocktails were a blast of flavor that were really good for the price. Service was friendly and timely, which left me with a good impression of the area. The only regret I have is not being able to come more often. When I wanted to eat out, I would rather go into the city, not stay on campus. But if you're really lazy, this is an amazing choice to go to.

Yelp
I was looking forward to my experience here. I had heard good things. We visited during happy hour and didn't have a reservation but were seated promptly upstairs. Loved that happy hour is not just at the bar but the entire restaurant. The music upstairs was sooooo loud that we couldn't hear each other or the server. It was uncomfortably loud. The food and drinks were okay....not horrible but not great either. We had the chicken patties, beef patties and jerk egg rolls. Everything had a nice spice to it. The rum punch was good. I ordered the blackberry lemon drop and had high hopes for this drink. Sadly, it tasted like Robitussin. The server brought over lemon juice to try to correct it but nothing helped. My experience didn't live up to expectations. I'll give them another try in the future...maybe for brunch.

Yelp
I found this spot on TikTok. First thing was the address says Chestnut street but the restaurant is actually on 40th street. Parking is horrible in that area depending on what time and day you go. Fortunately we did not have an issue with parking because it was a Wednesday night. When we arrived we were seated immediately. We wanted to sit outside but it was closed so we had to sit in the upper level. We were a part of 2 so we got seated at an tiny high top table, we asked the waiter could we be seated at a slightly larger table due to the fact we were planning on ordering several dishes and drinks to try and there was not enough room, we were told no. It literally wasn't ANYONE inside the restaurant. I didn't even have space to place my purse down. We were given mini bottles of water while we waiting for our order to be taken. The drinks and food did come out quickly and it taste really good. The waitress was not very attentive. We had to constantly get up and look for her and able to order drinks or food. But like I said before, the restaurant was not crowded at all. Overall, I will go back just for food. But the vibes was not there this Wednesday night. Oh and they close at 9 which was a bummer.

Yelp
My hairdresser told me about Irie Entree. My cousin and I like to go out for Happy Hour occasionally. She suggested this Black Owned business because it's close to my cousin's job. I told my cousin about it and she said she was down!! We met up around 6:30pm. We both didn't eat much, but the food we had was delicious. We sat outside in the patio dining area. Drinks, food and enjoying the nice air was wonderful. We were seated outside in case my cousin wanted to partake in a Hookah session. (It began to rain so that was cut short) I had eaten prior to meeting up, so I just ordered a drink and an appetizer: -- Casamigos Pomegranate -- Casamigos Tequila + Cointreau, Fresh Lime, Pomegranate -- Pineapple Soda -- Sugarcane BBQ Wings -- 4 piece The drink was amazing!! I would absolutely order it again. It was strong but not overpowering and I didn't feel "drunk" after having drank it. The pineapple soda was awesome. The Sugarcane BBQ Wings were sweet and sticky. I wish there were more than four. Maybe six?!? Our waitress didn't hover and was there when we needed her. When it began to rain, the staff brought us inside and accommodated us with tables inside. We enjoyed ourselves and we definitely will be back to try other items on the menu. The only thing that I didn't like was that a 30% gratuity was automatically added to our check. I'm a great tipper and that just turned me off. Uh oh well.

Yelp
The first thing I would like to encourage you to do is, try dining on Wednesday. The entrées are discounted $12. This will give you the opportunity to determine if Irie will be a go to, or a hard pass. This restaurant takes reservations and will seatyou timely upon your arrival. The staff is friendly but make sure you ask questions so you are clear on prices especially with the drinks. For the most part, we all enjoyed our orders however, several of the items were not available at 7 PM, they were sold out. Arrive early call ahead. Would I return? Maybe??!

Yelp
Beautiful and truly worth a visit! Each time I would pass by this establishment the courtyard area is always showing a vibe, a nice crowd, great music and often times a wait. My first visit was memorable and I'm glad I gave them a try! The menu has a great variety to choose from and I opted to go for the starters vs. full entree on this evening. I enjoyed the Jerk Chicken Eggrolls, the amount was just right; after 4 eggrolls I was full. The DJ played some hits! The hits ranged from various genres, decades and overall style! There was great guest interactions and it honestly added to the vibe! The timeliness from the server could be improved but overall the service/hospitality piece was a 10/10!!! I enjoyed every staff member I encountered. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Service has not been good as it was a month or two ago. The new bartender, which I believe is part owner, is very rude! This is my second encounter and he hasn't been pleasant. This used to be a fun place to come on Wednesday nights but his service is very slow and he's rude! He proceeded to rush and take my order and walked off without putting in all my food. I wasn't even asked if I wanted to add to my order. As I brought it to his attention he responded and said "do you want me to serve you or not" which Is very unnecessary, he made the mistake. Irie entree please train him to have proper customer service or hire someone else.

Yelp
Very nasty service I was told to leave because I asked can someone join me at the bar I would NEVER GO there again!!!!

Paige S.

Yelp
Service was terrible. Came in close to opening time on a Friday and the server was very short. Not attentive to getting our drink orders and rushed us out after an hour asking "are yall done?!" This was very disappointing as I w been here before and was excited to have a good time with my friends for happy hour. We left and enjoyed our time elsewhere.

Yelp
First timer for a Jamaican restaurant and had a decent experience! I got the jerk chicken -- how could I not -- with Mac and cheese. It was okay but nothing surprising. The Mac and Cheese was a little bland until I really focused on it, that's when a little bit of the flavor came through. The Jerk Chicken was spicy and sweet but on the drier side without any sauce. Bigger concern was with the service for sure. My group did a walk-in and was seated just fine, but it took over 15 minutes for anyone to take our order and then more than 45 minutes to get our food after that. We waited for over an hour. The music is far too loud for comfort so it's hard to hold a conversation. There also isn't anything but bottled water for all the customers (no glasses or ice), not sure if there's a particular reason for this. Good place to try for yourself if you're interested!

Yelp
Came here for Happy Hour and I must say I was very pleased. I got there a little after 4pm with reservations. HH on Wednesdays (4pm to 8pm) and Fridays from 4pm to 6pm. When I got there, it was empty and I was seated immediately. Warning : I would strongly suggest making reservations because this place filled up fairly quickly before 4:30pm Upon ordering, there was a DJ setting up. Their DJ was amazing and his curated playlist created a whole vibe that had me dancing in my seat. I absolutely enjoyed the food at Irie Entrée. I ordered off of their HH menu which contains a nice selection of Sips and Bites at $7 each. For Sips I ordered the Blackberry Lemon drop. Not only did it taste delicious but it looked pretty as well. I also tried their strawberry Margarita and that was also amazing. For Bites, I ordered their jerk wings. The wings were flavorful, tender and spicy. They served you about 6 wings with a side of jerk sauce. Although you didn't need the jerk sauce, it added another layer of deliciousness to the wings. I also ordered patties. The patties come in 2, so I ordered the chicken and beef patties. The beef patty was amazing with a flaky exterior and the beef had a nice kick to it. My table ordered the following: Jerk Chicken eggrolls, steamed mussels, and crispy fried shrimp. Hands down none of the foods disappointed and were quite filling and satisfying. The service was great and our server was very attentive whenever we needed anything. This establishment is also a BYOB in which they have a corkage fee: BYOB Corkage Fee (per bottle) $10 per 2 guests. Overall, I truly enjoyed my experience at Irie Entrée and I will definitely come back. I would love to experience this establishment in the warm months as it looks like they are set up to have outdoor dining in their courtyard. Give them a try, you won't be disappointed. I give them a 10/10 for food, ambiance and overall vibes.

Yelp
Whew! This review could have easily been 2 stars, but the food gave it a slight boost. I'll just start by saying the service left a lot to be desired. Walking into to the downstairs dining area, no one was there to greet our party of 4. No host or hostess at all. We looked around confused before wandering upstairs to see yet again no host. The waitress eyed us but we stood there awkwardly near people eating until I could inform we had a reservation. We were late for our initial time (due to reasons beyond our control), but the waitress did seat us. We were told about the QR for the menu, but as we sat, a good 20 minutes went by with no glasses of water, no greeting or even tableware provided. We seriously debated leaving. After what felt like forever, the waitress walked over and just stood beside the table wordless, waiting for us to turn and ask her about food. I finally asked "Hi, what's your name?" and we eased into making our orders. Odd. A simple introduction and "What would you like?" I always thought was pretty standard in the service industry, not standing awkwardly making us feel silly for not acknowledging you. When it came time to take our orders I asked what was the pasta seasoning like and she kind of grimaced like my question was weird, and she couldn't really describe the dish. I could have been asking due to allergies. The lack of training/preparedness was astounding. There's grace for these types of things at a new establishment, but training servers to be more attentive and proactive is an easy improvement. I certainly felt for the team there, as they had a decent crowd (a good problem) with short staff for the bar and tables, but something like providing water and utensils right away is the bare minimum. The fact that I had to flag her down after like 15 mins to get water bottles (a whole 'nother rant because where were the glasses?) didn't sit well. The food took a while, but arrived in enough time for it not to feel like forever. We weren't really checked on after we were served though and the waitress barely made eye contact with us. Nonetheless, the food was hot and delicious. The virgin Ocho Rios punch also was quite nice, and reminded me of our favorite vacation to Jamaica. I have to say, others at the table enjoyed their meals (ox tails, jerk chicken quarters, etc.). despite our gripes with service. It's just hard to vouch for this place until the serving improves. To sum it up: the space itself is cool and seems to attract a young crowd, looking for cute IG photos. Indeed the inside is set up very stylishly with some gram-worthy touches. That aside, simple enhancements would be a host at all times, turning down the blaring music which makes it impossible to talk without yelling, and most importantly training of waitstaff. Believe it or not, I want to return, the food clearly smacks. I just hope they can address these things, and I will be sure to avoid peak dining times.

Yelp
Now THIS is what I'm talking about when I say after work happy hour! I most def enjoyed my hump day pick me up at Irie Entree with my boo. Can't lie, when we arrived the servers were looking around as if they didn't realize customers would be showing up. But okay? Either way we sat in their outside area which is super cute with a DJ, hookah, vibes, etc. Sitting out there in the Philly heat though? No bueno BUT the golden hour pics were worth it. Okay the good stuff: happy hour specials were everything! Great drinks (strong drinks), food was bussin bussin, and the music was on point. I will most definitely be back.

Yelp
Ok, came here after work with a few co-workers. 1. There's not happy hour on Friday. I was able to find parking out front and paid via the app. Was greeted immediately and informed where our party was seated, upstairs. The area is spacious, with a 'full bar' and plenty of high tops for customers. Typical, not everyone showed but we still had a good time. We ordered several appetizers, drinks and shots. I waited so long for the server to come to the table that I went to the bar to order my 1st set of shots and that's where I saw our server who took the order for me. Appetizers were really good. The ackee and salt taco was ok, I should've tried the oxtail taco. The wings were really good as well. The majority of us ordered oxtail platters to go, now this is where I was confused. I've never ordered a platter of oxtail/jerk chicken or curry goat where rice and beans isn't a part of the platter. Well here you have to decide whether you're having Mac n cheese w/oxtail or rice and beans w/oxtail...where they do that at?!? And cabbage automatically comes with it. They could've kept the cabbage, tasted bland and old. Now I was hesitant on getting the max n cheese and the server couldn't really tell us if the Mac n cheese was good or not so I decided on the rice n beans which should've been a part of the platter in my opinion. Well I tasted the mac n cheese from someone else's platter and I'm glad I got the rice. Another party member tasted her mac n cheese and stated there was a funny taste to it. That was polite of her, it was nasty, again my opinion. Get home to try the oxtail and it didn't impress me at all. It had a sweet taste to it. Something else that got me while there. There were about 9 of us in the party. Remember there's no happy hour so we paying a nice price to drink here. About our 3rd round of shots, she tells us that they ran out of the liquor we had been drinking . Umm really?? Anyway, try it if you'd like but I've had much better food at a much cheaper price, not even including alcohol price.

Yelp
Amazing! Food! Absolutely amazing. Flavorful and spicy just like it should be. The jerky wings and the jerk spring roles was to die for. Absolutely delicious. The drink, the Appleton was so freaking and beautifully curated. I've had better meat Pattie but it was still really good. Cabbage was gross. Take me to GiGi in west philly for the best cabbage. Plantines are solid. Mac and cheese was good. Appetizers and drinks were the best. Ambiance This place reminds me of the strips when I lived in Los Angeles. The outside had string lights, fire lamps and music that keeps the vibe going, Ok our waitress was awkward. Very nice but seemed extremely shy and slightly uncomfortable and unknowing. The host gentleman was nice. The ambiance is elegant and elevated. My husband said this is his new favorite spot. I'm coming every-time he is ready.

Yelp
Food and drinks are good. Music is good as well. There is karaoke on Wednesdays I believe and its a vibe.

Yelp
Ok so got forced to pay 25$ to reserve a table for superboel Sunday! Time was for 5 n waited damn nearc15 mins in the cold! Finally got in on first floor, cold cuz door kept opening and cold air coming in. Happy hour was 5 to 7, n just started ordering at 555pm...this my 3rd time n this time it was not good at all! I hyped it up for my gf cuz it is her first time.. trying to convince her to give them a second try...let's hope the drinks n food worth all this bs! N the seats are hard on my arse!! Cushions please!

Yelp
I been to this place twice. The first time we dined in. Upon coming in we was greeted by the host which was a man and he was very rude not friendly at all i started to leave but i stayed the food was ok and our waiter was cool. I went back on a Wednesday and sat at the bar. The bartender is very rude. He's not friendly . The food is ok and it's a nice vibe. But i can't deal with mean ppl for no reason. I can't go back to this place.

Aliya G.

Yelp
I come to this restaurant A lot but today the service and atmosphere was horrible. We got seated around 6:20 and didn't get our waitress until about 6:45. We were able to order 1 Blackberry lemon drop off of the happy hour menu and by 7pm we were told the lemon drops were no longer available for happy hour. They didn't have the ingredients to make them but they could make us other Lemon drops. If your Blackberry Lemon drops were on Happy Hour, and yall ran out of Black Berry mix, the polite thing to do would be to offer other flavors at Happy Hour price. We ended up paying $16 for a regular lemon drops when on HH they were only $7. The waitress was mean and rude. And we still had to pay an automatic $30 tip for 2 people when she did not deserve that. I love this place and i love that its Black Owned but please please work on your customer service and menu!

Yelp
I went for Brunch. I think they need more servers. The drinks were good food just okay. My major gripe is that we had a reservation and had to put 25.00 per person to hold the reservation ( not a problem) the problem came when we got the bill. They conveniently forgot to take off the 75.00. The server seemed to get a slight attitude because we noticed and pointed it out to him. His response was let me get you the right bill. Please look over your bill before you just pay it.

Visited this location for the 1st time. Noticed there is outside seating for the warmer days! The decor is cute but the restaurant appears to be small so make sure that you make a reservation. Music played in the background which was appreciated ! Everyone that assisted us was friendly and helpful. The drinks were delicious! The jerk chicken was not spicy ( I prefer a little more heat) but it was good none the less. I liked that the sauce for the chicken was on the side and not already on the chicken. The Mac & cheese was average. I will definitely visit again when it gets warmer and check out the outside area!

Yelp
Reading some of the reviews, I was a little apprehensive about the service. However in our case the service was good. I suppose it helped that we typically eat dinner at 5PM, when the restaurant is not crowded. Out server was attentive and helpful. We started off with the beef patty and the cheese steak egg rolls. The patty was typical but still good. Flaky crust and spiced beef. The egg rolls were excellent. Crispy crust, flavorful well cooked fillings, with a tangy and spicy sauce. For entrees we had the curry goat and the Jerk chicken. The goat was great. Beautifully spiced gravy with tender goat and vegetables. Clearly it has been simmered for quite some time, as all of the components ran deep with flavor. They still however retained a nice texture. The chicken was good, but not really authentic or great. The do not cook on pimento wood, nor do I think they use allspice berries. They could use the bay leaf hack, but instead just grill on naked grates. This produces a flavorful grilled chicken, but nothing that I would call truly authentic Jerk chicken. The ambiance is nice, especially if you sit upstairs, and get a view of 40th st. The music is a bit loud, but some may find it acceptable. All in all most of the food items were very good, our service was good, and the setting was nice. A good semi authentic visit to Jamaica.

Yelp
I was watching the PBS TV show "Check Please" and Irie Entree was featured. The food looked good, so I decided to go check them out. Upon arrival, the restaurant was neat and clean, and I was immediately greeted by wait staff. There was some soft music playing. I inquired about ordering in store. I was told most takeout orders are placed online to avoid the 18% gratuity. I just ordered in store for takeout anyway. After perusing the menu, I decided on two platters: the oxtail platter and the jerk chicken platter. They each came with 2 sides. I decided on the rice and peas and fried plantains for both. The food was ready in literally 10 minutes. I got about 3 oxtails with the platter. They were very tender. I liked that they had the extra sauce in a small container. The rice and peas were ok. It tasted better once I added the sauce. I don't typically like plantains, but those were very sweet and tender. I would def order them as a side. The jerk chicken was tasty. There was nothing special it. I think it tasted like all other jerk chicken that I have tasted. I would recommend this restaurant. The food was reasonably priced and tasty.

Yelp
I'm in Philly for the summer on internship and tried out this spot. It's Friday and they have HH 4-6pm. My waiter Carl provided amazing service. He was attentive and timely. I ordered jerk wings, jerk egg rolls, fried shrimp and sugarcane bbq wings. All of them were great, I give 9/10 only bc my food wasn't fully hot when it came out. Ambience was amazing. Top floor was closed but the 1st floor opens to the patio and the breeze felt nice. I had the rum punch and only needed 1 to do the job. My friend had the margarita and enjoyed it. I will be coming back again..and again.

Yelp
Wanting to spend money with a black business we ended up at Irie Entree, where we've spent positive dining experiences in the past. However, we ordered our drinks and food, both came within minutes of each other, and we dove into the food before taking a sip. But once we did, both drinks tasted medicinal, which made us call the server over and tell her about the drinks...we asked if we could switch them to something else. Bottom line, we were told no, and still charged. We asked for the manager, which we found it hard to believe that a manager was not on site at 8 pm on a Saturday night. The host who spoke with us in the absence of a manager said there was nothing that could be done...so we were charged for drinks that tasted terrible, and auto charges a 17% tip on top. Needless to say, that was our last time visiting that establishment and anyone we know who asks about this place will be redirected. It's a shame...we intentionally went to give them our dollars! Wow...they'll never get another one! The 1 star was for the food...it was good. Everything else...

Yelp
I really enjoyed my experience...we went for Happy Hour on Wednesday. The drinks (margaritas, and rum punch) w were $5.... The appetizers were seven dollars. We had the fried shrimp, the mussels and the jerk wings. Very tasty. The service was good. Our waiter came and checked on us multiple times even though it was really, really busy there. I would definitely go back.

Yelp
Pleasant indoor and outdoor dining. Available is hookah. I appreciate that the regular dining area and the hookah section are separate. The pomegranate casimigo and the jerk chicken egg rolls were what I ordered. The drink was flavorful and potent. The gf rolls were delicious. Fast and friendly service was provided. Absolutely will be coming back.

Yelp
Back a lot sooner than I expected lol but my mom has been wanting to come here for a while now, so I jumped on the opportunity to bring her to their Mother's Day event when I saw it advertised. The event was all you can eat for $70 per person; not bad! We started off with a self served appetizer buffet which had plenty of options and things for everyone to enjoy. The event was supposed to start at 5pm, though they did not start serving us until 6pm... I think they were running a bit behind schedule, but the music was good, the weather was nice and the scenery was beautiful so I honestly didn't have any complaints other than we didn't get anything to drink within the whole hour of waiting for the event to kick off. Nonetheless, my entree came out looking stunning as always! I was so full off of the buffet that I didn't have enough room for anything else so I'll be having my escovish and fried shrimp for dinner today. So far I have eaten dinner in all of their dining areas; now I have to come back for brunch and see what that's all about. Still my fav Caribbean spot in Philly, and a step up in service since my last visit. Thanks Iriee Entree!!

Yelp
My second time here, first for Mother's Day and now Fathers Day. Brought my dad and boyfriend for dinner. Made a 5:45 reservation upstairs in the Main dining room. The waitress came over her name was Moya very soft spoken pleasant young lady. She explained that dads were entitle to a free beer and appetizer chicken skewers or chicken and shrimp. I ordered the rum punch for myself. We also ordered additional appetizers the 4pc jerk wings and the jerk cheesesteak rolls. The appetizers were delicious especially the jerk cheesesteak rolls. They were cheesy and juicy. For our entrees my dad order the regular oxtail with peas and rice, bf ordered the oxtail Mac and cheese, I ordered the oxtail rassa rassa. My oxtails were full of fat. Only had 3 with my meal and I'm pretty sure 2 1/2 was fat. I would never order this again. Next time I'll stick to appetizers the menu is kind of small. I will be back just won't get oxtails or rassa rassa it was very dry and spicy, everything else was good. Thank goodness I filled up off of appetizers.

Yelp
This place is a rip offfff. I went for happy hour. I was under the impression it was from 4-8pm as stated on they Instagram page. When I got to the restaurant we scanned a menu that said it was 4-6. The the owner said oh that was just for that day. I was so confused. The same menu items ( drinks, food ect) was all the same. He said you need to scan the menu. I scanned the menu and saw it said 4-6 and the lightest print they could possibly find. My drinks and food took so long. My cousin came and he tried to get a table. They said all the tables were reserved. Yet, we watched people come in and get sat without a reservation. Tables were opened for hours. They have poor customer service and poor Customer appreciation...... Would not recommend for happy hour. Especially when it's so many other places that would appreciate you coming to their establishment to spend your hard earned money.

Yelp
Irie Entrée is a new restaurant to the 40th st corridor and a welcome addition. Delicious Jamaican food for decent prices for the area. We ordered sorrel and the jerk wings (I got the pineapple ones while my coworker got the traditional). Sorrel came out almost immediately, but it took a bit for the food to come out. No worries since we had time. Sorrel was perfect-- gingery and sweet. Just what I needed for the weather. The jerk wings were delicious and completely worth the wait. Hope they do catering so I can add this to the office rotation Can't wait to come back and eat more

Yelp
A great new place! Was walking by and saw an empty first floor. Not a great start, but decided to give it a try- we went upstairs and it was much more lively. There is a full bar and a lot of 2 tops. I got the sorrel drink which was sweet and gingery- I don't think it was alcoholic, but I would crushingly recommend! My friend got the rum punch, which was good as well, though a little light in the rum. Not feeling too hungry we decided to get appetizers- I got the chicken curry tacos and he got the traditional jerk wings. The tacos were fantastic! The meat was savory and the tortilla was great! My friend enjoyed the wings, he said the sauce was sweet and the wings had a little bit of kick to them. Even though we thought they were appetizers, we were pleasantly surprised by the portions, as they could easily serve as a meal. As for the atmosphere, it was bright and relaxed. Everything looks brand new and they didn't skimp on the building materials. Reggae music was playing, but not too loud. All of the staff were pleasant and patient. There was only one bathroom with only one toilet in it on the second floor which wasn't a problem tonight, but if they get busy I could see it being an issue. Overall, highly recommend! Check it out!

Yelp
We had a terrible experience at this place. We were invited by friends who had not arrived. We asked to wait at the bar and was told we weren't allowed. We had to be a single person to sit at the bar. Service was slow and we did not feel welcomed at all. When the rest of our party arrived they didn't accommodate us and refused seat us together. After spending over $80 in appetizers and drinks we weren't allowed to try any entrees once our group arrived. Very disappointing. What we had was very mediocre, drinks were good. Not a crowd, but they did have a dj. We will definitely not return!

Yelp
A new place I seen and decided to stop in and everything about it was great! We had the Oxtail Mac & Cheese Bowl which was amazing and the meat was super tender and the Curry Goat was also amazing and tender and flavorful! The Curry chicken Tacos isn't picture, but they were good and the drinks was good and strong not watered down. The portions are also good for the amount & customer service was good even with it being a little busy. Definitely would go back again next time maybe I'll try the outside seating.

Yelp
I went here last night for my cousin birthday celebration. It was a total of 6 of us. Our waitress was wonderful. The restaurant was nice and cozy . The drinks were on point. The jerk chicken rolls were delicious and spicy. But the entrees were not up to the standards of its name. No restaurant should ever serve instant mash potatoes and frozen salmon. The salmon was not fresh. The jerk chicken was dry and we were served a chicken log that looked and taste like imitation meat charcoaled and covered with jerk sauce. It also came with plantains and cabbage. The only good item that was hot was the man and cheese. The Mac and cheese had red peppers and celery in it. I couldn't get past the taste and chucks of celery in my Mac and cheese. It was a disaster that I really couldn't understand. This pace has potential but need help purchasing quality food to serve.

Yelp
Cute spot! Food was really good! The bartender Darrell was personable and engaged ! Only downfall is their entire menu is not available anytime of the day. Yet , that's definitely a personal preference. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Meh. The service was lacking, the waitress wasn't all that attentive The food took forever. I ordered chicken wings, but they came out MUCH SMALLER that other versions of wings that other people in my group recieved The music was WAY too loud. No need for them to play music that loud And the value(quality vs price), for my tastes, wasn't there Does it look nice, yeah, sure. And the food wasn't bad at all. But there's no need for me to come back

Yelp
Black owned, great vibes, and delicious food! What more can you ask for! The food is delicious. From the jerk kitchen to the mac n cheese. This place is a hidden gem and as much as I want to keep it to myself, more people need to know about this place and visit. Also, 2 complimentary alcoholic drinks when you're dining?! Perfection! Please check out this place! You won't regret it

Yelp
Tried Irie Entree for the first time and it was absolutely delicious - large portions, good vibes. Oxtail was flavorful, Mac & cheese was wonderful, and great drinks were an added bonus. Highly recommend!
