8 Great Jamaican Restaurants In Chicago - Chicago - The Infatuation

"I stumbled upon Irie Jerk Bar and Grill in Wrigleyville on my way to another spot that turned out to be temporarily closed. But all was not lost - I enjoyed the smoky pimento wood flavor of the jerk chicken wing dinner, and the sides (macaroni and cheese and the red beans and rice) were good, too. Plus, it’s walking distance from Wrigley Field, which is good to know since the city is allowing 50% capacity at home games this season." - adrian kane, jessica rome

Hubby and I were hungry and decided to order from the #2 location which is in Richton Park, IL. You definitely get your money's worth and then some in the amount of food they give you. We got the oxtail dinner and it was delicious. The sides were cabbage greens and plantains. Comes also with rice and beans. Cabbage was okay and the rice was plentiful. About a week later, we decided to order from #2 again but for some reason, they weren't taking orders at that particular time so we ordered from this location, #4. I must say, this location is closer and we enjoyed the food more. The cabbage greens tasted so much better and they add a delicious sauce on top of the rice & beans which adds a great flavor so we will be ordering from this #4 location from now on. Highly recommend the oxtail dinner, the butter chicken dinner and their meaty rib tips are the BOMB!! The pictures show it all and how much food they give. Keep up the great work Irie, much appreciate the wonderful food!

I’ve been coming here since they opened and have yet to be disappointed. Everything I’ve tried has been great! I especially love the oxtails. You get a good portion even with the lunch special.

I am reaching out to express my extreme dissatisfaction with my recent catering order from your location. As a long-time supporter of your franchise, I am deeply disappointed by the quality of food I received, especially given the $300 I spent. Here are the details of my order: • 2 Large Trays of Jerk Chicken • 2 Oxtail Dinners • 1 Small Tray of Cabbage Unfortunately, the food was inedible and not up to your usual standards: • The jerk chicken wings were burnt, overcooked, and so dry they were unservable. • The chicken tasted extremely old, and I cannot confidently take this food to my family gathering. • The oxtails, cabbage, rice, and mac and cheese were also unsatisfactory in taste and quality. I chose this location based on your staff’s assurances and the positive reviews, but this experience has left me livid. I work hard for my money and expect to receive the quality your franchise is known for. I am requesting that this issue be rectified immediately. Please respond within 48 hours to address this matter. If I do not hear back, I will have no choice but to escalate by contacting my bank and sharing my experience on social media. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I hope we can resolve this amicably.

Well the food was delicious and amazing. You get your money worth. I had to call the restaurant and give them a compliment. I enjoy every bit. And everything I had ordered was fresh!

The White Jerk chicken dinner exceeded my expectations. Chicken was very tender, yams wasn’t overly sweet, Mac n cheese nice was creamy overall the best Jamaican Mac n cheese I’ve had in a while. The rice and peas so delicious and that gravy was phenomenal it complemented the rice. Nice portions.

First, I would like to acknowledge the new location. Irie Jerk is one of my fave jamaican spots. I called in during my lunch break and it was 8 mins away from my job. It took them about 15 mins total to complete my order and it was fresh & delicious. I’m not too fond of plantains, but they were actually good. From the staff to the customer service, food, presentation, quality and timeliness… I give them a 10/10! THANK YOU!!!

My Favorite Jerk Spot To Eat Real authentic Jamaican food located in the Chicagoland area. This is my 5th time eating here and I love everything about the menu and their services. I always get the jerk chicken with Mac and yams. The yams are always hot and deliciously made with love :) paired with the Mac and cheese super cheesy and tasty. Now let’s get to the tender- goodness oxtail made with the perfect thick gravy and vegetables are my absolutely favorite dinner on the menu. The Service was A1 and the manager Rajay was very nice and caring making sure I had extra utensils and jerk sauce. If you want a freshly cooked meal with a peaceful atmosphere please stop by and enjoy the amazing experience at Irie Jerk Hut #4 ;)

I ordered from #4 and it was something about the food that lacked soul. The chicken didn’t taste seasoned & im used to my jerk sauce being a little more chunky and spicier. Maybe it’s a preference thing but I get the same thing at all Jerk restaurants and this one just did not hit the spot for some reason.

Yelp
Moved here in December and have been here six times since! Consistently delicious! They are so kind and waste no time feeding you, for which I am thankful. Yeah, I'll be back next week lol

Yelp
After I stormed out of Jamaican Jerk Villa due to terrible service, I did a quick google search and saw Jerk Irie Hut just a few blocks west. I was already hangry, didn't see any reviews but said wtf and gave it a chance. I pulled up and saw it was a storefront, not many cars parked there and as I walked in, there was a lady happily walking out. I asked her if the food was any good and she said "Oh yeah, I come here all the time!" I approached the counter to a smiling-faced young lady who happily took my order. I ordered a half chicken dinner (dark), with plantains and cabbage (it came with rice -n-peas and hardo bread) for about $20. She said 10 minutes, and guess what? My order was ready in 10 minutes. That was easy enough...but the true test came when I got home. What I do know about jerk restaurants in Chicago, is that they give you healthy portions of food, enough for leftovers. So when I ripped open my package and saw the bountiful, steaming deliciousness in my container, I was going to be happy. The chicken was so moist and well-seasoned and the sides were heavenly. I polished it all off in one sitting with big-backed gusto. Yeah, it's in the hood but most of the good jerk places are. What a pleasant surprise JIH was and they found a repeat customer in me. Can't wait to go back!
