Where To Get Food From The African Diaspora In Philly - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"Like Philly Elmo or Iverson, the curry goat at Irie deserves the next shoutout on Abbott Elementary. The tender cubes of lamb come floating in curry sauce that’s oniony, peppery, and has a subtle ginger flavor. The portions are also so big that you can expect every main and side dish to spill over the edges inside of the takeout tray (they don’t have a dine-in option). But we’re not complaining—a curry goat, jerk chicken, mac and cheese, or rice mashup might be the greatest Philly combination since an open parking spot and a lawn chair." - candis mclean

I don’t usually leave reviews, but I had to after today’s experience. This was my first time visiting, and I’m so glad I decided to stop by instead of ordering online. The young lady at the counter wearing glasses was incredibly warm and welcoming. She gave me a confident, honest recommendation when I asked about the brown stew chicken, and her energy made the whole experience even better. The food? Flavorful, tender, and perfectly seasoned. The small platter was generous and hit the spot — not too much, not too little. I left in a better mood than I came in and will definitely be adding this to my go-to spots!

The food is good rice is good not dry, cabbage is good even though i asked for greens, the there is the oxtails very flavorful and good except they are cut into a half of a half!!!! I ordered a large and got a medium of oxtails pretty much. Thats my only problem!!! Flavor is great but my whole platter was full of rice barely any cabbage barely any oxtails. Why cut the oxtails in two half. Im from California n we don’t cut it into two half. Great flavor though.

I’ve been to a lot of Jamaican spots, but this one captures my heart, my eyes and my soul, beautiful people, beautiful atmosphere wonderful hospitality wonderful attention to detail when it comes to our food. Wonderful attention to the recipe. The food never gets old it never changes. I’ve been here three times in a row $40 a charge and walked out almost happy. They got to a point where I started buying food for other people here if you want good Jamaican food come here. The portions aren’t small either.

The oxtails were cooked perfectly and falling of the bone. The gravy was amazing. The cabbage was delicious and sweet. The lovely lady working was very nice and made us feel welcome. Great experience and definitely worth stopping in for lunch/dinner.

Super clean environment to buy food in and from, which is a super plus ! The food was pretty good, prices weren’t so bad. The Oxtail was spicy & slightly salty but I do feel that with the rice and beans they accommodated one another and was a nice balance together. If you’re in the area give it a try, I did like it but to me it didn’t have a super Caribbean taste as I expected. But, everyone is different and have different taste . So try !!:)

Food was not that gravy. The yams tasted bland, the rice and peas had pieces of uncooked rice in it, and the baked Mac n cheese was tasteless. That was my dish. My friend had the oxtails and he stated that they had a taste like the fat hadn't been skimmed off. Have some rolaids or tums on hand for a couple of days after you consomme. The bill came to $50+ but that was with 6 drinks.

Lunch prices weren't bad. The goat was tasty along with the oxtail. The jamaican patty wasn't bad however, I don't feel like it obtained enough meat for the price. Would return for the entrées.
