I had not visited the Claremont Packing House for a few years now, and there has been a few changes here and there. Last time I was here, Augie's Coffee Roasters was here, sharing a location with a nitrogen ice cream shop. I was in the area and wanted to grab a cup of coffee, once I Yelped and Googled, I noticed that Iron & Kin Coffee Co had replaced Augie's. With the numerous high reviews, I knew I had to visit. The line for Iron & Kin certainly surprised me, and it made sense as one orders, pays, and usually the drink is ready by the time one finishes checking out.
Espresso Tonic $5.75
Morning Bun $6
The menu is very simple, and since most coffee joints I have visited this summer offer Espresso Tonic, I opted for an Espresso Tonic (light ice), with a touch of honey. Since I was torn between the hot Honey latte and an Espresso Tonic, the barista mentioned he could include some honey in my Espresso Tonic. Since I tend to sip Espresso Tonics slowly, as the person working the cashier also agreed that they do the same, light ice was perfect - as to not water down my drink too much. The drink was perfect, not bitter in any way, very smooth.
The Morning Bun drew me in as well, as I do not tend to order pastries at times, but it surely did not disappoint. The barista offered to warm it up for me, but since I was not going to be eating it right away, I declined. I ended up warming it up at home, later in the afternoon, and it was delicious. No wonder there was only on more left, and the barista agreed that it was a great choice! The sugar may steer one away but the flakiness and the crispiness of the croissant was perfect!
By the time I left Iron & Kin, the line was even longer! Almost reaching the wine store... There are many other drinks I want to try, so hopefully I'll get a chance to stop by again. Great customer service, even despite how busy they are, and clean. All were always restocked: straws, napkins, cup stoppers, and etc.
The interior was about similar to when it was Augie's Coffee Roasters beforehand, high ceilings and natural light. It was a bit warm on the inside of the Packing House, but it is the summer. There was a table in the center of the coffee shop, and a few tables and chairs on the sides. Many were also seated outside where there were many tables and chairs.
