Amazing use of a historic place! This building was the site of The Iron Fireman Manufacturing Co, named after its automated coal furnace feeding machines. It is also little known that they were instrumental in building all of the Steam Engines for Portlands Liberty Ships built at Kaiser during WW2. These are the triple expansion reciprocating pistons similar to the ones used on the SS Titanic. Without Iron Fireman, the Portland shipyards would not have been able to set all the records in building Liberty Ships during WW2! Truly a historic place and so glad to see it still fulfilling a great purpose in modern times.
