"From bold, bombastic IPA's to subtle, carefully crafted Sours, our experts craft delicious lagers and ales using the very best ingredients..." -Ironmonger website
I am a lover of sours, I pretty much love/will drink any sour, so I was sold by their website tagline. My boyfriend and I grab 3 friends and take them on the 30+ min drive to Marietta from Atlanta to experience a brewery that we hadn't tried yet, and we were all looking forward to seeing how this suburban brewery would fare. (Our last suburb experience was Burnt Hickory, so maybe we were a bit too excited).
Regardless, we went up to the front counter where the bar tender showed us a menu with a few beers crossed off. He then went on to tell us that the menu wasn't updated due to their printers being down and he showed us several other beers that were unavailable despite not being crossed off. I think there were more unavailable than not.
That's ok, so I asked if there was an up to date menu because I couldn't memorize the menu and every time something sounded decent, it was unavailable. Unfortunately, it was on a tiny screen in the back so I couldn't really read it.
I decided to move to my second beer ordering tactic of asking which sours were available as I would just get a flight of those. The response, "oh we don't have sours." And so I referred back to their website tagline, and was informed that their website has not been updated in years.
Defeated, I was unsure of what to order. The bar tender nicely asked me what kind of beers I do enjoy. I told him that I like sours and stouts. He pointed out 2 stouts, and let me try a bloodorange ipa that was "close" to a sour.
I ended up getting a flight that had the 2 sodas, 1 stout (the only available stouts were super unappealing sounding), and the bloodorange IPA (I don't like IPAs but this was drinkable).
The triple berry soda tasted like creamy medicine, the coconut lime soda tasted like coconut lime la croix, the stout was generic, and the bloodorange IPA made me crave a sour I was really hoping for. The rest of my group had similar opinions.
So if you're already out in Marietta and want a beer, I would say stop by with little expectations, and you'll have a good time. The space is nice, and the staff is friendly. But if you're thinking of driving from Atlanta with options such as Three Taverns, Orpheus, and Monday Night at your fingertips, then just stay in town.
