Irv's is one of the few restaurants within Durango Casino that resembles a fast food joint, and it has very reasonable prices to boot!
The seating inside has a diner feel.
It's classic American burger and fries fare, but with added chili, pastrami, and up-leveled milkshake varieties. They also serve breakfasts--more on that later.
The first time my family and I went here, we picked up a to-go order while wearing masks because a few of us had recently tested positive for COVID. It was popular that afternoon and we waited in a long line just to order.
Receiving our order wasn't fast, but with how busy it was, that didn't bother us. It's not McDonald's after all.
They gave us my son's chocolate milkshake first. It was rich and delicious. Even the whip cream topping was fluffy yet thick--definitely not from a can of store-bought whip cream. The chocolate shake itself had a deep cocoa flavor, and you definitely needed their extra wide straw to drink it.
When we did receive our order, we thought it was all in just one bag. And most of it was! What we ended up missing was a much smaller bag on the side that had the chili cheese for our fries.
When we went back for it later, it's my understanding that they didn't say sorry, but rather that "you forgot the bag". I personally feel they could have done a better job at pointing out that there was a second bag for us to take. It was tiny and it was not obvious that it was part of our order; nor did anyone inform us that it was. Also, with how packed in our order was to our 1 bag, why the need for a tiny extra bag for the chili cup? It just felt like poor service.
That said, that's not that big of a deal on its own--however, there's more. Inside the bag, its clear Irv's doesn't get a ton of to go orders, because the burgers were kind of smashed.
The fries, on the other hand, were crisp and perfect--and they had additional little boat tubs to hold them under their individual bags.
My turkey burger had a ton of chopped onions on it. It definitely had a different flavor than I was accustomed to, but I still liked it.
My husband's pastrami sandwich wasn't stacked as high with the processed meat as the menu pictures showed, but that's pretty typical anywhere. It had great flavor and balanced the mustard with the meat well.
We also had chili cheese fries that we added pastrami too, which is part of their menu options. It was good, but not as great as the fries alone.
The cheese was a minuscule pinch of grated cheese rather than a melted slice or a more generous amount. The chili was just okay, and the pastrami was very finely cut and good on its own as well.

What really took this review down to a 3 star rather than a solid 4 was simply that we came back one morning to try their breakfasts before heading out on a family road trip. We were really pumped for it too because their breakfast menu looked good!
Unfortunately we never got too--and not because their line was too long--their service was simply too slow!
After waiting for quite some time, it was clear they were still so behind on their previous orders that they couldn't even take ours at the front counter.
We ended up leaving and grabbing some quick bites elsewhere.
I'm sympathetic to the fact that most food service locations are short on workers right now, but it's important to not lose business or blame customers for any service shortcomings.
Irv's has fallen short of a stellar impression so far, but it's still okay in my book.
