Isabella Plantation

This is one of my favourite parts of Richmond Park. I have only ever been here in the winter, and even tho the flowers are absent there is a different kind of beauty. The dogwood is really pretty and colourful this time of the year. It's a really lovely place to take a walk. Some part were being refurbished or replanted or repaired... having new stepping stones put in, new boardwalks and suff, but in a few months time I think it will be very lovely.

What an amazing view!!! I took my clients to Isabella Plantation for our Spring Beauty photoshoot back in 2024 and it was honestly amazing!!!! Totally recommend! But arrive early if you don’t want crowds.

Delighted by the beautifully colored and flower-filled pictures in the presentation, we chose to visit the garden in October...unfortunately, we didn't see any flowers or color, but the garden is beautiful, a view you can find in any other park...no Richmond this being full of dry ferns

Beautiful free garden in the heart of Richmond Park. Part of the Royal Parks of London. If you would like to visit something new specially in spring - do come here! The azaleas and rhododendrons are in full bloom in late April & May. Lots of birds and mandarin ducks. So therapeutic & relaxing. Went there early morning and not too crowded.

Beautiful ornamental gardens that are a highlight of Richmond Park, with azaleas forming walls of colour in spring. The gardens were planted in the 1830s, opened to the public in 1953 and extensively renovated in the early 2010s. The reflection of the azalea and rhododendron flowers in the ponds is stunning during spring. Entry is free and signage is good, with a large information board at the entrance outlining the history of the gardens, and the species they are now home to. There's a small amount of disabled parking available just outside the plantation, and footpaths connect to the rest of the park.

Great day trip. Expect lines in the small cafe (good sandwich veg options and nice vanilla softy ice cream though), so bring a picnic maybe. Filthy loos (non segregated) could do with improvement. Expect walking but step free access and not much of an incline if travelling with kids or seniors. Seasonal plantation best seen in April and May!

Another dreamy spot in Richmond Park! An ornamental woodland garden that deserves to be visited as much as is humanly possible. At this very moment, a lot of the trees are glowing red! It's just stunning! There's a delightful pond filled with waterlilies and the most beautiful reflections. It's name seems to originate from the word 'isabel' in the 15th century, which meant dingy or greyish yellow - referring to the colour of the soil in this part of the park. It certainly contains a much brighter pallet now. Some of its seasonal delights include: Spring - camellias, magnolias, daffodils and bluebells. Summer - Japanese irises and day lilies. Autumn - guelder rose, rowan and spindle trees loaded with berries and leaves on the acer trees are turning red. Winter - camellias and rhododendron, mahonia, winter-flowering heathers and stinking hellebore. For drivers the Broomfield Hill car park is closest. If on foot, it's best to enter the park at Ladderstile Gate where there is a big map to direct you!

I am now a member of the selected group that know of Isabella Plantation and I am proud of it! :) I have been going to Richmond Park for years and I love every bit of it. But I now love it even more! Isabella Plantation is quite a large garden secluded from the rest of the park by a wooden fence but set right in it. It has a magnificent collection of colourful flowers, and a stream that runs right through it. It also has three ponds and a great selection of trees too. It is charming, peaceful, secret and beautiful. Don't miss it if you go to Richmond Park. But don't stay long, I wouldn't want it to start getting crowded ;)

I've been in Richmond Park couple times but last time for the first time I visited Isabella Plantation. I was surprised that it's quite big, I thought it's much smaller. It's like a secret garden in the magical forest. During autumn it's colourful but not as during spring, so definitely I will come back there in spring. There are few nice ponds and all garden is like a green labyrinth, don't be afraid to be lost there.

A haven of peace and tranquility in the midst of the green emerald gem that is Richmond Park. A place to be visited anytime of your year, whatever mood you are in and to be guaranteed a pause from the hustle and bustle of life , an awakening of the senses as spring blooms in and a sanctuary for the soul on a many a cold winter morning , getting lost in the beautiful foliage and flowers and being captivated at the wonder of nature and the vibrant colours , the little duck pond , the young parents , the giggling with their voices calling like little tinkering bells of joy children and the elderly & mature and wise veterans of another era , some still with us and done sadly gone but not forgotten , for their dedicated named benches are in their favourite sunny spot or under a favourite rose bush or azalea and rhododendrons... I can wax lyrical about the place till the cows come home , but whenever I go and come back I feel a newness to my soul and a renewed perspectives on life and the journey of living. To be visited with family or enjoyed alone , to sit and wonder and ponder , Isabella plantation is always there waiting for you .

You're likely to miss this secret garden unless you know of it or stumble upon it by luck. It is a wonder of an abundance of trees and flowers. Spring really is the best time to catch Isabella plantation at it's most beautiful - popping with colour and aroma everywhere. If you're going with younger children, remember to take some bread to feed the ducks, geese, swans and cootes - there's a small pond situated to one side of the plantation and is a nice place to sit and reflect and dose if you have the time.

Absolutely stunning. If you don't have time to walk around the whole of Richmond Park then this is the best part to pick. The vast array of flowers and plants are beautiful, particularly in spring. The bright red walls of rhododenrons truly are a sight not to be missed! You canj also take free guided walks of the plantation or there are lots of information plaques throughout.

Next time you're visiting Richmond Park, make sure you go to the Isabella Plantation. It's an enclosed ornamental garden in Richmond Park. Lots of exotic plants, little pathways, a pond with ducks and open space to just sit and watch the world go by. The garden is particularly beautiful in autumn with lots of different shades of gold and red leaves.

My children and I think of this as our Private Secret Garden. It is a part of Richmond Park, hidden away. In the summer you go through beautiful ornamental gates and enter Paradise! The enormous bushes of breathtakingly beautiful azaleas & rhododendrons are every colour you can imagine and seem to reach the sky. A little steam runs down the middle, bordered with irises and ferns with tiny crossing places - perfect for pooh sticks. At the bottom is a large lake with black swans and exotic ducks - and tadpoles! There are wonderful gnarled old trees to climb (illegally) and places to hide and private places to picnic; in the spring the bluebells look like water. You can park in a car park nearby and walk to the Isabella Plantation for about 5 minutes, don't miss the ice cream van. There are no toilets or any amenities there which makes it so perfect.
