Yelp
When you're here you're family...no, wait, that's the other place. However, this place actually looks like a family home, located right on the edge of a residential area on a relatively quiet stretch of Burbank boulevard. Blink...and you'll miss the best Italian food around.
They don't really have a website (until sometime last year) nor are they available on any delivery apps. The first time I ordered, I had to look at a grainy picture of the menu on Yelp. Somehow, thanks to old school word of mouth, this place has persisted and thrived. Ordering is simple and straight forward, call, place your order, and you go in about 30-40 minutes depending on if they're busy. Everything is reasonably priced and you get what you pay for, which is excellent food.
Due to the times we currently live in, we order our meals to go and it was some of the best comfort food we had during some darkest days. Everything is packaged so nice and neat and it's the perfect thing to bring home to your actual family. Here's what we always get and you should too:
The Caesar Salad: You know you're in for a treat when there's a warning about raw eggs since that usually means the dressing is authentic and made in house. The dressing is delicious and hits all the notes you want...peppery, creamy, tangy, zesty, and cheesy. On crispy romaine with shaved parm and croutons, it's a meal in itself.
Chicken Gorgonzola: Maybe the best thing on the menu and it's the dish that drew me in first. Two of the most tender, perfectly cooked chicken cutlets you'll get on bed of sauteed spinach, swimming in a gorgonzola cream sauce. The sauce is creamy and funky thanks to the cheese and once you toss in the pasta, it's a great plate of food. If I had one complaint about this place, the portion servings aren't as big as other Italian places. They don't give you enough for a meal tomorrow...but then again, you're probably gonna eat the whole thing in one sitting anyway.
If you happen to finish all the pasta and chicken and you're left with just sauce, the focaccia that comes with your meal is the perfect way to sop all of that cream sauce up. It's crispy and chewy, not the big fluffy squares other places have. Texturally, it's better cause it offers a nice crunch with your saucy pasta dishes.
Chicken Alfredo: This is my Mom's go to and it's an excellent baseline of any Italian place. There's not much to say about this dish other than it's excellent and I prefer it to the red sauce dishes. Occasionally we'll get the shrimp alfredo and it comes with a few big pieces of shrimp.
We haven't strayed far from these few options and there are times when my girlfriend and I would rather order two orders of the chicken gorgonzola rather than branch out and try new things. We've had the pesto and it's good, but not my cup of...pesto. It's oilier than what I prefer, but that doesn't mean it isn't good. We got it with the gnocchi and that dish just didn't hit as well with us. It's possible it doesn't hold as well to go than having it there.
Overall, you'd be hard pressed to find a better spot in town and Burbank is flush with delicious, authentic Italian options. If you wanna support a great, local business, with really good food, Isabella's is the place to go.
