Ishi Sushi

Very small place, but very nice inside. Food was excellent and a little expensive. A lot of different dishes with Wagu beef as well. I recommend this place. Not many people on a Saturday afternoon but feel evenings will be more 👌 again a little pricey but worth it.

Very good tasting experience! The food they provided is defintaly totally worth the price, and the boss are always very kind, they've share a lot interesting story with us. When you got time definitely should give a try!!! BTW, it's also pet friendly, they'll assign a place close to the front gate which will allow you to bring your pets and not bother other customer.

Food is decent, and service is great. It's just I don't feel the course worth $180. I will recommend to order each dish through the menu instead of having their courses.

This is one of my favorite sushi restaurants in the SGV. No one can match their quality and value of their OMAKASE specials. This joint is tucked in a plaza in Rowland Heights where there is an abundance of Chinese restaurants, but don't be fooled because they have REAL Japanese sushi masters. Real fresh and premium quality fish.

Fresh and high-quality ingredients, though it doesn't quite deliver a traditional omakase experience. Technique is rather basic, and service is acceptable. Still, a good option for those mainly seeking freshness.

I Just found out there are special meal from 7.00 for the anniversary special. The quality of food still good. I tried the 12.00 Chicken Don, taste is nice, Large portion, Low price. Bento box with Beef for only 18.99 and Eel over rice. We will come again soon.

The flyer said buy one get one half off. We stopped by but the sushi was priced high so 2 rolls was close to $30 and would be the same price at many other japanese restaurants in the area Quality was just ok. Nothing special about this place. There are better choices in the area

We got a mailer about their anniversary with all of their sushi rolls at 50% off, so we decided to try this place out. It's located in a square, that's kind of like a strip mall very near the freeway. We stopped by for lunch. When we walked in, the place was empty and we weren't greeted at all. They gave us some menus to look, and barely gave us any time to look at it before coming back to take our order. We ordered two rolls and two hand rolls. All the rolls were mediocre at best- sloppily rolled together, with the quality of fish only passing. We had to ask for refills several times. The entire time we were there, no one else came in. I was disappointed on several levels, but I can overlook the service if the food was good, but it wasn't even close to that. Spare your time and tastebuds-pass on this place.

We were craving sushi tonight, so we tried Ishi Sushi at the Pearl Plaza in Rowland Heights, which is close to the 60 Freeway (cross street: Nogales). We arrived at around 7 p.m. on Friday and, upon entering, it was quiet and almost empty inside. (I think that people always forget about this plaza because the location is a bit tucked in.) We were greeted by the lady, and we saw the chef there. The ambiance was very welcoming, nice, and comfortable. The chair had a thick cushion for sitting on. :) The menu has Chinese and English but without Japanese, and they played soft Chinese music there. It was a bit weird because they had beautiful Japanese decor there. For all the sushi rolls, they now have a buy one, get the 2nd one 50% off promotion. By the way, I found out that the chef worked at Nobu Hotel in Las Vegas before. We ordered the following items: hot tea x 2 $5.20 fried oyster for appetizer $17 Macho roll $19 Rainbow roll $18 (-$9) for 2nd sushi roll Salmon Sashimi with Tempura Bento box $18.99 Chirashi bowl $26 The service was good and the lady was friendly, and she helped us to refill our tea a few times. The roasted green tea (Genmaicha) was good. Fried Oyster- it had a total of 8 pieces and they were delicious, fresh & crunchy outside, and we liked the dipping sauce. Rainbow roll- California roll with 5 kinds of fish on the top. They were very fresh, and they looked pretty attractive. Macho roll- California roll with cooked salmon outside (ponzu on top) The cooked salmon was perfectly matched with the California roll, and they were delicious. My Salmon Sashimi with Tempura Bento Box- it is served with salad, miso soup, Japanese rice, and 4 pcs California roll. The portion was big, and the salmon sashimi was very fresh, and the tempura tasted great. Miso soup was not that flavorful, but it had less sodium. The rice and the California roll were authentic, soft, and tasted good. Edamame was okay. I finished my whole tray except the rice because I didn't want to have too many carbs (but their rice was super good). Lastly, the chirashi bowl - it had 2 pieces of tuna, 2 pieces of salmon, 1 shrimp, 1 white fish, 1 yellow tail, 1 albacore, 1 Uni, 1 smelt egg, 1 Tamago, and salmon egg. The presentation was very beautiful, and the quality was very fresh and delicious. Overall, they deserve a 4-star rating. We will go back there again and may try their Omakase or Chirashi again. Tips: I'm surprised that their default tip guide starts from 20% to 25% on their iPad; if you want to pay less than the default tips, such as 18%, you can select "custom" and choose the tip amount yourself.

Came here on a Sunday an hour after they opened and it was quiet. I don't think a lot of people know about it because it's kind of tucked away in a plaza. There was the server and the chef. I believe the chef is Japanese. The sushi rolls were buy one get the second one half off. We got one bento combo and 4 rolls. The portion were standard but each roll was big. They were stuffed with meat tightly. We got the bento with tonkatsu pork and mixed tempura. It came with a miso soup, 4 small California rolls, salad, rice, and edamame. The tempura was fresh and crispy. Again they didn't skimp on the portion. We got the cucumber roll, full moon roll, spider roll, and lobster roll. The cucumber rolls' salmon sashimi was so creamy because the salmon was very fresh. Nice to have a sushi roll without rice. The full moon roll was eel and avocado with fake crab meat. It was standard but I love eel so it was a must. The spider roll was soft shell crab. The pieces with the crab legs were huge. The fried soft shell crab was fresh and crispy. The crawfish meat of the lobster roll was tasty but it had the most fishy smell out of the 4 rolls we got. It wasn't my favorite but it wasn't bad. For the prices of these entrees and the huge pieces of sushi, it was a good deal. I recommend this sushi spot, might try the omakase next time.

I have been to this sushi restaurant for about 2 years now. It's quite literally the best sushi you can get for this price in OC. A sweet old couple and a Japanese man who's devoted his entire life into sushi making works here. In this plaza, they're usually the ones with less people or customers and I'm not sure why. I had drawn them a drawing before and they cherished it so much they hung it up in their store and every time I dine there they'll give me free salmon. They told me that the drawing I made was their new motivation to keep going even when they were gonna close. These sweet souls said they're really struggling with buisness and I'd do anything to boost their name. I've tried a lot of their menu options and their fish is sweet, no fishy smell, thick, and truly authentic unlike a lot of sushi places in OC. Please please please give them a try. Even if it looks empty inside and if you speak chinese or not, it'll be a beautiful experience.

one of the best sushi spots in town! Every piece was fresh, beautifully presented, and perfectly balanced in flavor. We ordered the chef's omakase and were blown away by the variety and creativity. melt-in-your-mouth toro, buttery uni, truffle soup, etc. that was unforgettable. The deal gets even better -- the second person gets 50% off. So amazing! Can't wait to come back!!

I've had my share of Japanese cuisines and sushi is definitely one of my fav foods. I've experienced the range from Michelin rated sushi to grocery store grade sushi but this place is near rock bottom. The place was pretty quiet when we arrived, there were many signs up about their sushi promotions such as omakase. We were a party of 2 and there was only one other table, the staff were inattentive as they were sitting down at one of the empty tables and watching tv. We ordered a couple rolls all of which were cut unevenly and were falling apart. The tataki was drowning in sauces to cover up the low quality taste of the fish. Lastly, the waitress gave attitude when I adjusted the tip to 15% from the preset 20%. This place is not cheap either so I wouldn't recommend anyone to come.

Food is good but they act like you're not even there even when you just want to pay. And I come all the time. Maybe I'll go somewhere else next time.

Amazing. Good atmosphere, good service and the sushi never disappoints. My go to sushi either it be fancy or quick this is the spot. Highly recommend They offer private room bookings as well for events and birthdays. Been coming here for years.

I was going to stop at Hide Out Cafe but was told that food was no longer being made. My friend and I walked a little bit more down the area and saw this restaurant. We decided to give it a try. The restaurant is minimally decorated. They don't have music playing. It's very quiet. We were seated and given menus. Their menu has a lot of variety. We ordered a few different items: toro roll, seared salmon nigiri, chicken katsu, and a spider roll. The seared salmon came out first; it was fresh and delicious. The spider roll came out next; it was perfectly crispy. The tonkatsu came with rice, salad, and a miso soup. The tonkatsu was flavorful, tender on the inside, and perfectly crispy on the outside. The salad dressing was yummy! The toro roll was amazing; it melts in your mouth. Our server checked on us a couple of times to see how the food was tasting. I'm looking forward to future visits.

This is a hidden gem in Rowland Heights. It's always about the food, which is very good. And this place has charm, and the hospitality is top notch. I ordered four rolls--Spicy Tuna, Rainbow, Crunchy Shrimp, and Las Vegas-- to go, and I thoroughly enjoyed all of them with the Las Vegas roll being my favorite. I look forward to my next visit, which will be often.

Beware that Ishi Sushi for some reason has a lot of fake reviews on Google, possibly even on Yelp. We came here on a Friday night and every place in this plaza was busy or had a line out the door except this place. Ishi Sushi had no one in there except one other couple. We were wary, but the food was fine. Their prices are mixed considering what items they have. Some are a good deal, while some are average price. Their menu is big, which is a little worrying. I don't know if their sushi prices are overpriced, because I didn't try the sushi. Service was fine. Tonkatsu ($12), katsu don ($17), mixed tempura ($10, worth it), chawanmushi ($5.50 for steamed egg-- very worth it, great deal), chicken teriyaki ($9, worth it for a decent meal set), tonkatsu curry ($19).

We came on a saturday afternoon and we were the only customers there. I was a bit hesitant, but we gave it a shot and it was pretty good. The lunch special was a few more bucks more than what I was expected, but they do give you a lot. Next time we'll try the sushi, but for the lunch special (beef/check teriyaki and tempura), its a good quiet place!

The foie gras rice dish had an unpleasant bitterness and a strong fishy smell. The teriyaki sauce in the rice failed to cover up the bitterness and fishy flavor of the foie gras. We ordered several items for two people, which totaled $220, and we still left feeling unsatisfied. The waitress visited our table once and then neglected us for a while until I had to get up to request more soda cans, as refills are not available.

We had a delicious family lunch here today. Taiwanese girlfriend and her son & daughter-in-law and their single digit daughters. I had the lunch special bento box sashimi, California rolls, salad, soup. Lots of great food, good portions and good atmosphere. The owner is everywhere and is the backbone of the operation. Great food!!! Will be back.

This was a nice surprise. We tried their $100 per person omakase for my birthday and it was a nice experience. The lady was nice but she doesn't understand English well. The food was tasty. I also ate here years ago with my family. My little sister treated and ordered a lot of a LA carte dishes that were very expensive, like foie gras and caviar on top of uni and wagyu. The 4 of us totalled about $1000, which was crazy but delicious!

My son and I went to Ishi Sushi today. It was my first time there and We absolutely loves the Sushi and the amazing service. The food is amazing highly recommend this place ..

我家寶貝們帶我在隔壁吃台菜，經過這裡就告訴我 Ishi 的老闆竟然是我們以前小投資的 通天-Shabu/通天閣 partner 的 sushi chef. 這世界真小. 喜歡他們的 24K gold foie gras sushi，wagyu beef 炒飯，還有茶碗蒸. 我家小姑娘請客時都怕我們不夠吃，感覺點太多.但每次吃完，過兩小時又覺得餓了. 東西不錯吃，價位太高. 裝潢還可以. Service 普通.

I have now been here several times visiting friends and have enjoyed every meal! The staff are very kind and prompt. While some items, particularly the Wagyu, thought delicious, can be quite pricey, I love this space! The options are endless, space is clean and very authentic. Highly recommend.

As authentic as it gets and the servers speak nihonggo no less. Had a quick lunch here and did not expect much but boy, were we pleasantly surprised. I came with a friend who lived in Tokyo for over a decade who lives in the area but has never tried it. Now we are going to be regulars. We both ordered chicken katsu and curry which came out with a quickness and holy cow it was so good, we probably scarfed it down in 5 minutes tops. Portions are Americanized (a.k.a. big) though the manner of cooking and preparation is very authentic Japanese--none of that oily, overly seasoned nonsense. Must try other things on the menu next time. Gochisosama.

We came here during the weekday for lunch and in an empty, hidden plaza, there was absolutely no line or wait for dine in. It wasn't until over half an hour later that another party came in and they were seated at the opposite side of the restaurant. It's a very fancy looking sushi places for sure and I really liked the decor that they had. Also, it was super cool to see the restaurant's namesake chef in the flesh himself, Ishi-san ! We got the: 1) Soft Shell Crab: -So crispy and crunchy on the outside, but moist and yummy on the inside. Had this with the lemon and sauce they provided and it was divine. -I usually don't order soft shell crab, so I'm glad that my friend did 2) Ankimo: -I have never actually had this before and I didn't know what it was until I went home & looked it up afterwards. (Monkfish liver!)I -Without knowing what it was, I definitely got a foie gras like vibe from the dish and the sauce it came with added a citrus-y taste. -I'll be honest though, the texture was a bit "denser" than what I expected and as the meal went on, this became less desirable to eat (not that it was bad, but I think I'd have enjoyed it on bread haha). 3) Chiraishi: -Very huge portion and definitely something that can be shared for later. -It comes with rice and a large portion of salad. - I got to try some of the uni that came with her dish and it was very creamy and fresh. None of that bottom of the ocean taste that you get from some places. That's how you know it's high quality. 4) Nigiri Plate: -All the nigiri was super fresh, the fish slices were portion-able and did not come with too much rice. Loved it. -It also comes with an 8 piece roll with salmon, tuna, and avocado in it. Not bad! Very filling We also got freshly ground horseradish with our food (EXCELLENT touch, love it when Japanese restaurants do this) and miso soup. Haha, I was treated out for lunch here and it is a bit priceyyyy, but if you wanna be a bit more fancy and have great quality, fresh sushi, this is the place to go.

Delicious to the finest details of Japanese Brown Rice Tea and two forms of Fresh Wasabi. Staff fluent in English, Japanese, and Chinese. Ordered: Uni Chawanmushi (海胆蒸蛋)-RECOMMEND. Inari (豆腐皮寿司), Salmon (三文鱼), Yellow Tail (黄尾鱼), Beef Tataki (牛肉霜烧), Agedashi Tofu (日式炸豆腐), Japanese Hot Brown Rice Tea (日本玄米茶)- RECOMMEND, with a side of Fresh Grated Wasabi & Wasabi/Chili Sauce. Limited but Free Parking outside of plaza. Indoor dinning available. Restaurant on first level of plaza.

Came here last minute for my birthday dinner Was very pleased with the service and quality! Turned out better than expected. Jean was our waitress for the night ,very sweet lady! I'll definitely be coming back

My family and I tried out Ishi Sushi this afternoon, and we were so impressed by the amount of fish that Chef Ishi gives! They have a BOGO 50% roll special too, so the specialty rolls are such a good deal. The fish quality was super fresh, and they even use real, fresh wasabi. The restaurant itself is pretty quiet--when we arrived there was no one else there and 2 other parties arrived while we were dining. The server and chef were also super nice :) Definitely give Ishi Sushi a try if you're in the area!

It's my first time coming here, but the service was wonderful, aesthetic was amazing, the attention to detail in their food was immaculate. The Wagyu is hands down the best I've ever had and would definitely recommend to anyone who wants quality food, to come to Ishi Sushi! Thank you guys for having me.

The food here is so delicious, the salmon is extremely fresh and overall amazing. They also have lots of different food choices including wagyu, fried rice, and great deals. The customer service is also amazing, with kind workers. The restaurant is also nice smelling and extremely clean. Great place, would definitely recommend

I was there with my wife to celebrate our anniversary Sunday night, which a lot nice Japanese restaurant not opened so the choices are fairly limited. We decide to give Ishi Sushi a try. We ordered 9 items A La Carte, which includes seared toro, beef tongue, and A5 beef. Everything taste very good and we have more than enough food for 2 of us. After tip (22%) the total bill was $300. The service was attentive and prompt. Overall not many people dining in when we were there so the place is very quiet. Decoration is nice and clean but not fancy. We liked this restaurant a lot. Like many other review says, the price is a bit high around this location and this may not be a frequent visit location giving its cost per person. However, if you are looking for quality over quantity and a nice and quiet location to enjoy some superb Japanese food this location will not disappoint you.

I was not expecting much from this restaurant seeing they don't have high ratings. However their sashimi quality was great. I will come back to the place and dine another time and update my review upon my next experience.

Came on a Saturday night close to closing and the entire staff was really welcoming and accommodating. Ordered the Red Dragon Roll and the spicy tuna on top were thick slices that melt in your mouth! It was really delicious and it had a really fresh quality taste. We waited a little for the food but it was worth it. I would be coming again when I am in the area!

They are so popular recently. So I came and wished to have some great quality food! I ordered their omakase. And it's terrible! It may looked nice in pic, but it's too greasy! The foie gras is totally prepared wrong and. It's fresh! Everything has too much seasoning, and the rice is really bad quality rice. Also overcooked! And the fish is not even fresh, seriously? What's even worse? The chair at the counter/bar is really low, I guess they just don't wanna invest in the perfect chair for the counter, so they just use the one that is for the table. Very uncomfortable dining experience! I expect to have at least fine dining quality food, and this is terrible! I am so disappointed! Well, I'd rather get some sashimi from mitsuwa! Totally not worth it, waste my time!  From the plating I am thinking that maybe they do wanna do good. But serving fresh food is the basis of every restaurant! Without food quality control, it doesn't make sense to use dry ice or any other ways and try to sell the food with a  higher price?!

Did come Down Rowland Height ( L. A ) from San Francisco August visit my Friend... I' ve heard all sorts of good things about this Place, I really Enjoyed ( Lobster Roll ). Best Sushi Ever, Salmon& Yellow Tail... Also, ( JP Beef Tataki ) Very Fresh and Flavorful. The Selections are Endless, Taste is Amazing... Service was Great and Fast" Friendly Staff as Well! Will go again for Sure.

Me and my friends were strolling around the plaza this restaurant is located at and decided to try it out as it wasn't too busy and it looked pretty inviting. Our server, Jean, was so warm and friendly from the get-go. We had a big party, and she made sure to take her time with every single one of us. I ordered the lobster roll and a uni hand roll and I didn't even think to take a picture of it because it was SO delicious I ate it all in about 10 minutes. On top of that, it was my friend's birthday and they gave each of us a free dessert and Jean made sure to give her an extra special dessert on top. If the quality of the food isn't enough to bring you here, I can assure you the service we received tonight was some of the best I've ever received. I 100% recommend! Thank you for making our night super special.

I was there when one of the Yelper was there sitting behind me. The couple wrote bed comments for this restaurant was because they indicated their food were tasted awful after they finished all their food and refused to pay all the items on their bill. So, the owner asked them to make a payment. But, they said they will make a bed dining comments on Yelp if the owner insist them to pay their bill. Then, the restaurant owner had no choice but to call the police. Restaurant is not a easy business. I really respect them even the food might not tasted as what I liked sometimes. Please don't use the yelp review as a threat to the restaurant owner by not paying the bill. It's not ok!

Overpriced, service is very slow and absent. Food is mediocre at best. Prices are high. Came here for lunch one day and the place was not super busy which is interesting especially on a weekend day. We ordered a bunch of rolls, salads, and appetizers to share. The food was mediocre at best, nothing spectacular, mediocre in quality, taste and presentation. It's pretty overpriced for what you get, small portion sizes also. I definitely would not go out of my way to come here.

Great food, presentation is first rate. Clean and elegant decor. My favorite Sushi place. Price is actually very reasonable. More like 3 than 4 $.

In Mr Ishi we trust. The place offers a large variety of delicious food. I liked eating here. Staff members are always nice, prices are affordable and the spot is always neat. I saw someone said the waiters maybe not good enough. But one thing, remember we need to respect everyone first. No matter they speak in Chinese or French. Please no Asian hate. Thanks.
