Best Japanese Restaurants Seattle - Eater Seattle

"Ishoni Yakiniku, which opened in 2021, is one of several Japanese barbecue restaurants that have opened in recent years in the Seattle area. Tables are outfitted with their own grills, where diners can sear beef cuts like short rib, tongue, and finger meat, or splurge on some A5 Wagyu. Also available to grill are various pork, duck, lamb, chicken, seafood, and vegetable options. There are also snacks like grilled mackerel, takoyaki, and fried chicken." - Jay Friedman, Jade Yamazaki Stewart

10/10 experience all around!!! Wagyu and mentaiko yam (山藥) is a must. Owner is Taiwanese so we chatted a bit, and he is super attentive and nice!! The service overall was really great and fast as well. I love how they marinate their meats, and all the cuts were high quality and fresh! 😋 Will definitely come back!! 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️

Such an intimate and authentic restaurant!! Loved every second of our experience!! We would totally recommend and we loved our visit! Food was spectacular and loved the fire grill at every table!! Totally unique and amazing! My daughter and I were visiting from Seattle, Washington! We will be back for sure!!!

Google
Great Japanese bbq place with high quality meats. Ordered the beef variety plate, duck breast, pork jowl, and salmon ochazuke. Duck can be a bit gamey in general and that’s why most restaurants douse it in sauce, but this place served good quality duck so even with just salt, it was tender and yummy. The beef variety plate had different cuts of marinated beef and non-marinated, so it was nice to have a mix. Pork jowl was on the lean side and it was decent (but only because I like my jowl a bit fatty). Salmon ochazuke was nice; fishy, flavorful broth with small amount of salmon on top. And to top it all off, service was pretty spectacular. All of the servers were attentive, friendly, and welcoming. I’d highly recommend this place, especially if you want to try Japanese bbq for the first time!

Came here for a late dinner. Got seated fast without a reservation, we were warned that last call to kitchen is in 25 min..the staff was friendly and polite even though it was close to closing time. The quality of the food was excellent! The meats were delectable, we had the beef combo, seafood combo, veggies and chicken. And everything was delicious. We had fun cooking our little bites but it is a bit of a chore. We ordered the cooked Mackerel, rice, fried yams, kimchi and edamame and they did not disappoint. The sesame pannacotta was amazing. And everyone loved the little free sherbet finisher. The price was high, but understandably so, for the quality of the food and service. Portions are small. This place is about the experience and not value.

I used to dine at Ishoni back when they were in Bellevue before COVID hit. I recently got the opportunity to try their latest and newest location in Capitol Hill. It is much bigger and there's more staff now. The only difference now is that Ishoni no longer uses charcoal. Their meat selection was really good though. We ate seafood, beef, duck, and mushrooms and they were all really tasty. We couldn't leave without having dessert and got the Fried Ice Cream. It was amazing! I am not sure if I will be back just because of the location and the difficulty to find parking. But if I come back, it will always be with friends!

Google
We tried the set for Seattle dinner week. Loved the Sumibi flavor on the meat. The induction was well done and the store not Smokey at all. The meat quality was good. The marinade could be a little sweeter to be more like Japanese yakiniku. Also personally would prefer no furikake on the rice. Whole point is eating it with the meat but I’ll know to ask for that next time. Favorite cut in this set was the kalbi.

Google
Ughhh I really, really love this place. Their wagyu is just melt-in-your-melt luxury goodness!!! We got the steak and also loved the sandwich. I got the ochazuke to try something a little different and I wasn’t disappointed. Don’t miss out on all this tasty meat!!

Yelp
Very friendly, nice beef. Have a free little iced lemonade at the end of the meal. Very clean.

Yelp
Drinks: - The Asahi on draft is amazing. Nice, malty, and clean. Super refreshing and easy to drink. My partner doesn't like beer, but ordered a whole pint of Asahi to herself here, it's that good - The highball is also a good choice, subtle whiskey flavor with a refreshing effervescence Food: - The Ishoni rice is a must get. This is going to compliment literally any meat choice. Sometimes meat by itself is too heavy for me, the rice helps balance it out. It's like a toasted furikake, with green onions, and some shoyu based sauce I think. It's really good. - The egg yolk/shoyu sauce is a must get (I think it's called Shabu sauce). This is an amazing dip for any meat you get. It's almost mandatory to get, you won't regret it. It's a nice break from the butter that they normally serve the meat with - The Beef Combo plate is really good, I'm particularly partial to the beef tongue, and the beef rib finger. The finger is fatty and chewy and absorbs the marinade really well. The beef tongue has a nice snap to the texture, that's almost like eating a sausage, but not quite. - The yuzu shaved ice that they give as a complimentary dessert is amazing as well. It's in a little shot glass with a small spoon, but I wish they'd sell this in bigger portions. I really enjoy finishing my meal with something cold and refreshing such as this. It's the perfect balance of the astringent taste of citrus and sweetness Ambience: - This place is very clean and simple. It gives off a grey and stonelike vibe, but the warm lighting helps make the place feel for lively - The space separators have a cool wooden pattern to separate the tables, I dunno why but I just like the way they look - The upper walls are decorated with this shimmery gold tiling that reminds me of a disco ball Overall: This is an amazing place, I would definitely comeback. If you plan on going here, it's recommended to make a reservation since this place get's packed very quickly. Luckily I walked in one time right when they opened and snagged a booth, but I wouldn't count on that happening every time. This is probably my favorite place to eat in the Seattle area, the quality is top notch, the drinks are good, and the meat is so decadent. You can taste how good the quality of the meat is.

Yelp
I decided to try ishoni yakiniku during seattle restaurant week (srw). Even though they had a special set menu, you could also order food off of their regular menu as well. Since my friends and I like to eat a variety of food, we ordered one set of the srw deal, and other dishes such as the beef combo, mushroom stew, takoyaki, ishoni rice and a fish!! In the end it came out to be ~$45/person which is not a bad deal. I really enjoyed the wagyu and cuts of beef, and thought the free yuzu ice at the end was a perfect dessert. I liked the clean interior and the staff were super attentive with taking our order and filling waters. It was such a nice experience if you feel like treating yourself!

Yelp
My family and friends have been Ishoni long term fans in the past years, at both the Bellevue and Capitol Hill locations. Been going back many times. With my recent dining experience, however, I'm not sure if I would go back. I went to Ishoni for dinner with a couple of friends last Saturday (3/29). We noticed that the grill didn't seem to be hot enough to cook the meat. The cubed meat was still half raw after sitting on the grill for 15 minutes. As a regular customer, I knew it was unusual, so we talked to the manager to see if there was anything he could do. He offered to move us to two other tables, but he said he can't guarantee the grill at those tables would work better. When you are in a yakiniku business, aren't you supposed to provide a functional grill that allows customers to cook their food? As a store manager, aren't you supposed to make sure your equipment works properly? That statement from the manager sounds irresponsible. We ended up moving to another table and the manager was right. The grill didn't get any better. All the meat that we cooked at low heat that night was dry and chewy. The whole meal and experience was very unsatisfying, so we just left the restaurant with a half full stomach. No one from the restaurant ever apologized to us. The manager was well aware of the issue, but he did not admit the problem and apologize. Since we were a party of 7, we had to pay a mandatory gratuity of 18% even though the service was extremely disappointing! Food: 2/5 Service: 1/5

Yelp
We had a reservation for this place. I would definitely recommend this place for japanese bbq. Their menu is a QR code you scan to see. It was easy to follow. The staff are very friendly and efficient. With waters ready and ordering. At the end of your meal you receive a little refreshment as a complimentary. I would love to comeback and try different things on the menu.

Yelp
On a random day we were really craving some grilled meat and we decided to go here! We were glad we did because it was all amazing! The food was great, very tender and delicious! You also get special cooking from the server if you order the wagyu! Our server cooked our meats to perfection and we loved it! The restaurant was clean and inviting, we can definitely see ourselves coming back!

Yelp
Everything about this hit the spot, the meat was fresh and high quality, with a variety of cuts. I visited during Seattle Restaurant Week and so cannot recommend the specific set that I ordered (it was a restaurant week exclusive), but their regular menu sets look excellent as well. The grilling experience is over a proper grate instead of the metal pans popular with modern bbq experiences. I found the flavor/taste to be more similar to bbq in Asia (although charcoal grills would put this in another tier altogether). My least favorite part of the meal was not the meat at all, but the takoyaki, which just had a bit too much sauce to eat comfortably.

Yelp
I've now been to this place twice! I loved it so much that I invited my friends to join me to celebrate my bday there! This is Japanese cuisine where you cook your own meats! Their meat selection is great and the flavor is amazing! I think about this place and I immediately feel happy! The only reason for the 4 stars is because both times we have been there, I didn't feel very welcomed by the staff and we were kind of neglected. We constantly had to flag them down or ask a different server for something. I'm pretty sure I will visit again, just because the food is really that good, but I am on the hunt for a place that is just as good, but also makes me feel welcomed!

Yelp
Food was good, I just don't like their aggressive way to get rid of us after the meal. We were aware of how busy it was and people were waiting but we didn't even mean to occupy the table for long. It was actually their fault to make the paying process so complicated and messed it up.

Yelp
We went for Seattle restaurant week and didn't end up ordering that set because we didn't like the options very much after looking at the rest of the menu. The service is really nice and really fast here. We got the creamy udon which we all thought was the worst thing we had there by far and I would discourage ordering it, it was creamy and cheesey but weirdly we felt like the noodle didn't have much taste? Hard to explain but how all 3 of us felt. We got 2, one was the Waygu skirt and some other, and the Waygu with bbq sauce was by far better than the other with salt and pepper. We also got pork which was fine. The Takoyaki was pretty good though . Overall everything was good and they even give you a complimentary treat at the end which was sour and light and good

Yelp
The service was good. The waiter was very attentive and on top of everything. The restaurant was very clean and spacious. The food was delicious. No complaints.

Yelp
My husband and I come here almost every month, but this was the first time I checked in using my phone number. We waited about 50 minutes for a table and another 15 minutes before anyone came to serve us -- which we understood, since we didn't have a reservation. Unfortunately, the experience this time was disappointing. Two of our food items were missing, the dishes had a strong dishwasher smell, and our dipping sauce also missing . I even had to use a shell as a makeshift spoon because the spoon smell very strong. My soup tasted like plain water this time and I ordered the soup every time I come. The staff seemed nice, but they were clearly overwhelmed. The first thing our server said was, "You have 10 minutes until last call," which felt rushed and unwelcoming. If this is the level of service and food quality during busy times, I'd honestly prefer you let us know in advance rather than seating us. We love coming here, but this visit was a letdown.

Yelp
Came here for dinner with a friend and we were so impressed! We arrived at peak dinner hours so it was pretty busy and we had to wait a little. We ordered the Ishoni Beef Combo, Premium Beef Tongue, Spicy Miso Pork Belly, Ishoni Rice, Sweet Potato with Cheese, and the Sesame Panna Cotta to share. The beef combo was amazing, and we actually really liked the Premium Beef Tongue despite it being our first time trying it. All of the meats were super high quality. The Ishoni Rice and Sweet Potato with Cheese were perfect for sharing between me and my friend. The sweet potato dish was super soft and had the perfect mix of savory and sweetness, definitely a must-try! The sesame panna cotta was a bit small but we loved the taste and the texture. Service was a little hectic since it was so busy but the staff were very nice. Decent amount of seating and there were a lot of groups dining at the time I was there. I will definitely come again!

Yelp
TLDR: Best non-AYCE yakiniku experience I've ever had. Highly recommend the Ishoni Beef Combo (or Flat Meet) and/or their Seafood Combo. - - - - - - I had a strong itch to have yakiniku and was glad I stumbled upon Ishoni Yakiniku while browsing Capitol Hill. I ended up visiting with a friend, and we were welcomed by a nice wooden interior well decorated with Japanese pieces and friendly staff members. We ordered their Creamy Mentaiko Udon with Seafood, Ishoni Beef Combo, Seafood Combo, and Salmon Ochazuke. The Creamy Mentaiko Udon with Seafood was a surprise, since I wasn't expecting this when thinking about yakiniku. Nonethless, it was a very solid dish with clean clams, juicy tomatoes, and creamy pasta. The creaminess with a bit "watery chunky" and a solid 4/5. The Ishoni Beef Combo... now THIS is a good sampler to get. Between all the meats, the best one is the tender flap meat and rib fingers. The other meats were also delicious, but those were the ones that stood out, especially with their garlic butter. We also added on the Seafood Combo which included cuttlefish, shrimp, and scallop. When grilled, the shrimps and scallops were crisp - even more delicious when dipped in their citrus sauce. The cuttlefish was also tasty and best eaten with their darker sauce. The salmon ochazuke was a nice palate cleanser and light carb. Though there was not much salmon, the rice was smooth and went down nicely. Its submergence in green tea made it even softer and smoother - yum! Once we finished, we were also treated to a small cup of yuzu sorbet, an unexpected treat. I'm generally not a fan of sweets, but I ended up finishing the entire cup!

Yelp
Food here is super high quality! The beef combo was definitely the way to go to try all kinds of cut for your first time. If available, get the thick cut beef tongue. It's definitely one of the best things on the menu! It's limited tho so make sure you go early. I went one hour after opening and they only had one left! The ambience of the place is really nice too and would be a good place for a date! Also, you actually don't smell too much like smoke so they did a good job with the ventilation!
google avatar

Erin A.

Yelp
Service was ok, sometimes hard to find someone to order. Food was really good. But the price is so expensive and the meat looks much thicker on the menu.

Yelp
Ishoni Yakiniku in Seattle is easily one of the best Japanese BBQ spots I've had the pleasure of visiting. The experience here is all about quality and authenticity, from the premium cuts of meat to the attentive service. Each piece of meat was fresh, tender, and perfectly marbled, providing that melt-in-your-mouth sensation that makes Japanese BBQ so special. The selection ranges from rich, buttery Wagyu beef to succulent pork and flavorful chicken, each offering a unique taste experience. The grilling process at your own table adds a fun, interactive element to the meal, allowing you to cook each piece to your liking. The dipping sauces and marinades were spot on, enhancing the natural flavors of the meat without overpowering them. The side dishes, from the salads to the miso soup and even the fried rice, were the perfect accompaniments, balancing the richness of the BBQ with fresh, clean flavors. What sets Ishoni Yakiniku apart is not just the food but the overall experience. The atmosphere is cozy yet vibrant, and the staff are knowledgeable, guiding you through the menu and ensuring you have everything you need for a fantastic meal. They ended our meal with a small yuzu shaved ice dessert that was the best way to end our meal!

Yelp
We came here for their $35 Seattle Restaurant Week Combo. We each got a combo and added the Fried Chicken and Fried Oysters. The SRW Combo came with the meats: Beef Tongue, Beef Rib Finger, Beef Short Rib Karubi, Pork Belly, Chicken Thigh, and Cuttlefish, and the sides: Kimchi, Ishoni Salad, rice, miso soup, and a little thing of Yuzu Sorbet. Everything was delicious. The meats were great quality, tender, and seasoned well. I usually don't order chicken at the BBQ places, but their chicken thighs were really good, and so was the Cuttlefish. The Beef Tongue was our favorite. I like to dip my meats in sauces or hot sauces, and I wished they had better sauces to dip in. The Fried Chicken didn't come with any dipping sauce, but it had good seasoning. We also added Fried Ice Cream for dessert. It was good, but I've had better. Place was nice and clean, and friendly service.

Yelp
What a hidden gem for Japanese Bbq! A few months ago we were invited to dinner at Ishoni Yakiniku. Life happened and we were unable to make it. We were finally able to snag a reservation at Ishoni and so glad we did. It's hard to get in so make sure you have a reservation. They greeted us right away, sat us and gave us a run through of the menu. Everything is A la carte (including the sides) so it can be a bit pricy but definitely worth it. We started off with the cucumbers, kimchi and two of the salads. The salad the waitress recommended was the Ishoni salad which is a mix of a vinegar salad with wasabi taste. Very good. However the one we enjoyed was the sesame salad with tofu. Amazing!! I even asked where to get the dressing! We ordered a few meats each one came out better than the previous one. The cuts of the meat were delicious and melt in your mouth. At the end of the meal they give you a lemon slushy which cleanses the palate. Delicious. Ishoni Yakiniku is definitely one of my top Japanese spots. Remember that it is al a cart so if you like sides it cost extra. But definitely a hidden gem.

Yelp
We had a great experience here during restaurant week. We got two of the offerings for the SRW which was a great selection of beef, chicken, cuttlefish, pork belly along with miso soup, salad, rice and a yuzu sorbet for dessert. All of the proteins were well marinated and delicious after grilling ourselves. The sides and accompaniments were perfect and my kids loved the yuzu sorbet. Service was fast and everyone was very helpful and accommodating. The interior of the space is clean and modern and I would come back to try more. It was very difficult to get a decent reservation but the restaurant didn't seem like there was a long wait on a Friday night.

Yelp
Easy to make reservations. I love that they actually do use the Yelp system for reservations. Food is absolutely delicious! Would definitely come back for the beef alone! The pork was also super tasty. Service is attentive and super friendly! There was always someone nearby if we needed anything and staff were constantly adjusting our heat for us. Very fun and relaxed environment. Great for groups of any size.

Yelp
This spot is great! Definitely pricey for what you get, but the meat quality is absolutely fantastic. We made a reservation ahead of time, and were seated promptly after arriving a bit early. There's a lot of seating inside and the grills are at all of the large booth tables. This spot does japanese bbq which is a bit different from kbbq, so keep that in mind! We got the beef combo and added the pork jowl too. It's served on a cow shaped platter with a few different cuts, and you're supposed to eat them in a certain order. I understood why after - it definitely felt like the better cuts were in the middle/end. I really liked the short rub karubi and wagyu, both of which literally melted in my mouth. The dipping sauce they have is also really yummy! I ended up also getting the ishoni rice to try and fill up a bit more, which was rice with onions and scallions on top, and a little drizzle of some soy sauce - it was good but tasted exactly as described. They also gave us a tiny yuzu shaved ice at the end for dessert which was really good :) The overall experience was really fun, though the portions are quite small. I'd recommend ordering more than you think and definitely get rice too!
google avatar

Nathan C.

Yelp
The cuts were really good! Get their Wagyu Short Rib Karubi, i always come back for this specific cut. Tender and juicy! Staff are attentive and friendly.
google avatar

Yelp
An underrated spot in Seattle! This spot serves delicious and premium meats that left me wanting more! The quality of meat here was amazing. Didn't know what to get here, but they have na ishoni beef combo which comes on a cute cow platter with a selection of different cuts like Premium Beef Tongue, Flap Meat, Beef Rib Finger, Beef Short Rib Karubi, Wagyu Beef Short Rib Karubi! All cuts were fatty and melts in your mouth. I also order the spicy miso pork jowl. It was also amazing! I loved how they have different flavors for pork jowl. I wished I tried the other flavors! Overall, everything was so good here and was it hit! Must visit and remember to make a reservation before coming!

Yelp
Visited during Seattle Restaurant Week when they served their $35 tasting menu. I arrived at 5:30 as soon as they opened since we didnt have a reservation, yet we ended up waiting about 45 minutes before getting seated which is to be expected during a busy Saturday evening. Highly recommend booking a reservation. The meats offered were varied both in types and quality. Some cuts were better than others but I think as a whole package it works really well. I think if you have a big appetite, perhaps you may leave slightly hungry. Service was good!

Yelp
By far, one of the best yakiniku restaurants I have ever been to! We visited Seattle for the weekend and found this place with simple a craving for yakiniku to guide us. My boyfriend surprised me with it and I couldn't have been happier! It's a cute little spot, very classy inside and the service was great. Servers kept checking on us to make sure we were okay, they assured us our food would be coming soon. We didn't mind the wait but it was so worth it in the end! The miso soup was delicious! I am extremely picky with my miso soup (i hate restaurants that charge $3 for packet soup, and I will gladly pay a few bucks more for homemade!) the Wagyu combo was to die for! Kimchi tasted homemade and the furikake on our rice was definitely the best I have ever had. Complimentary lemon ice for dessert was just the icing on the cake. This was such an amazing meal I'm making it a habit to come back every visit to the city!
google avatar

Yelp
Got to try their $35 restaurant week deal! Food was great overall: the beef cuts were my favorite, the chicken was probably the least impressive. But all in all a good deal for the amount of food you're getting (their regular items seemed a bit pricier though). We also tried their seafood udon which was yummy but not too creamy. The yuzu sorbet came in a tiny shot glass but the rest of the food made up for that. Service was quick and super friendly!
google avatar

Caitlin G.

Yelp
I popped in yesterday for dinner and had such an amazing experience! The staff were very sweet and attentive and my food came out in a timely manner! The ambiance was classy and I enjoyed the music they played. I started off with the fried oysters then had the shrimp and Ishoni rice--all very delicious! I finished with the sesame panna cotta and it was the perfect way to end the meal! They also gave a palate cleanser that was icy and citrusy, I loved it! I will definitely be back!

Yelp
An excellent spot for yakiniku. It's our second time dining at here and both times we gotten the Ishoni Beef combo. The combo platter included premium beef tongue, flap meat, beef rib finger, beef short rib karubi, and wagyu beef short rib karubi. The price point is reasonable especially for the quality of meats. Rice is not included with the combo and will be an additional charge. We've also tried both the fried chicken and gyoza appetizers. Both dishes came out freshly made and still piping hot. They don't have a full bar, however they do offer a good selection of sake and a few cocktails. I ordered a bottle of their Dassai Nigori to go with our meal. Service is prompt. They consistently check on the grills and offer to replace if needed. Water glasses are always refilled. Restaurant ambience is relaxed and the communal table grilling is perfect for date nights.
google avatar

Amy N.

Yelp
I've eaten here quite a few times and it never disappoints! We always go for the combo, it has a little bit of everything and hits the spot every time. Don't forget to ask for the habanero sauce on the side, it's perfect for dipping. The hamachi collar is rich and flavorful, and I'm obsessed with the truffle wagyu sandwiches and their tofu salad. Everything is fresh, and the staff are always quick and friendly. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
The first time I went here, I loved it. I feel like at each visit, it has gone downhill. The last two times I have gone the grill just wasn't rendering the meat and cooking as well -- though the staff felt it was fine. The first time they moved us, and it was way better. It took a lot of convincing and unfortunately we were almost at the end of the meal, but was still nice. The last time they just continued to insist it was fine. I think the quality of the meat may have gone downhill too. The high-end luxury cuts are still amazing, but all in all it's an expensive night and I find other options that are less expensive tastier. After 6 or so visits, I think it may have been my last.

Yelp
The perfect spot for an intimate sushi date night! I love their sushi platters and nigiri plates. With a great selection of fish, roll combinations, and small bite appetizers, it's hard to go wrong. The nigiri was perfect, each bite was fresh and the fish was not drowning in rice. It really allowed the fish to shine (as it should). Service was a little slow, but just be patient, we could all use and give a little more Grace these days. I was lucky to sit facing the sushi bar, and was able to see so many yummy sushi rolls and nigiri plates come out before being served. The food envy hit me on another level. I'll absolutely be back to explore more of this menu and share this spot with others.

Yelp
My friend and I walked in around 6pm on a wednesday night and was told that we needed to make a reservation on yelp which we weren't aware of, so make sure you make a reservation before showing up! We ended up being put on the waitlist and had to wait a little less than 2 hours and got seated around 7:45pm. We ordered different kinds of meat like beef and pork and they were delicious! The meat quality is definitely top notch which was worth the price we paid for, around $50 per person. I would definitely want to come back again but with a reservation in advance.

Yelp
amazing yakiniku restaurant the beef quality is really amazing ! It's tender and juicy, and it's just the right thickness! Especially ox tongue, really not enough duck breast is also fat and not greasy ~ their meat only with salt and some black pepper to marinate, retain the original taste of ingredients, love is suddenly full ~ tea rice ordered salmon and Ming prince these two, but in fact, there is no difference in taste after mixing. For dessert, we have baked ice cream , sweet vanilla ice cream with a crisp caramel crust and chocolate sauce, which is delicious The three girls ordered a beef platter + a duck breast + two bowls of tea rice + a dessert, a total of $115.46 including tip, very full, I think the price is very cost-effective, to tell the truth, I think this restaurant is better than the Japanese barbecue I have eaten in Vancouver, the dining environment and service attitude are also very good! After dinner also sent a small cup of grapefruit smoothie to solve the greasy, don't be too intimate ah ~

Pratyush ..

Yelp
Not worth the money. Felt like we paid for them getting us appetizer sized meat food quality and ambience was good but not worth the huge amount.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to eat in Seattle! The meats they provide are high quality and cooking them on top of a charcoal grill gives the meat a crispy texture and deep, savory flavor. I also thought that the meats paired well with their flavorful Ishoni rice and Ochazuke (both salmon and cod roe options are great). I've noticed that the dining tables offer lots of room and that the restaurant in general is pretty open and spacious. The staff is always attentive and follows up in case you need to order more. Would highly recommend this spot!

Yelp
Our go to Asian bbq place in Seattle that many have loved and recommended. Prices are higher but you're also paying for higher quality. Make sure to reserve in advance as they can hit capacity quite easily.

Yelp
Best Japanese BBQ in the Seattle! The meat so tasty and tender. You have to make appointment ahead or you won't be able to get a table.

Yelp
Great quality meats and delicious food overall! Service was nice but could be more attentive! Very spacious spot and overall good experience! Would recommend making reservations cause they do get busy!

Yelp
Located in Capitol Hill, Ishoni Yakiniku is a delicious spot for Japanese BBQ. For starters, we had fried calamari and fried chicken for a crispy treat and the Spicy Beef Stew. The fried appetizers were tasty while the spicy beef stew was a huge portion. The Ishoni Beef Combo comes with a selection of beef, which were all very delicious. We were also excited to try the Ochazuke, which is green tea over rice. It includes either salmon or mentaiko on top and was a crowd favorite. I also enjoyed the Lychee Beer.

Yelp
The beef tongue thick cut is definitely the highlight. I would go back just for that. The rest is pretty good too. I also liked it was smoky or greasy.

Yelp
All the food here is simple, but done incredibly well! The Ishoni Beef combo is highly recommended. They serve a few slices each of various cuts of beef, including a Wagyu short rib. Everything is incredibly high quality, and every bite is marbled in fat and melts in your mouth. They also served it with a garlic butter dip heated on the grill, which was a nice addition! The restaurant itself feels really polished and clean with grills at every table! Will definitely be back for more grilled meats soon

Yelp
We absolutely loved this place! We reserved ahead of time for an 8:30pm slot. It was a Friday night. When we arrived, we were asked to wait for about 10 minutes before we could be seated. The place looked quite busy, which is always a good sign. We ordered the fried calamari for apps. It was good, nothing spectacular about it, but the sauce it came with was delicious. But then here come the bangers - the miso pork shoulder, and the A5 wagyu steak. They were AMAZING! Both were well seasoned and just perfect! I'm pretty much drooling as speak. We also got beef cubes with butter, I can't remember the exact name which was also really good! We used the butter as a nice rich dip for all the meats, which was a neat trick I read about from another reviewer. The grill was also fairly simple to handle, it was nice and easy to tell when the meat was cooked. It was a little pricey, but hey this is Seattle. Would absolutely go back!

Yelp
I had went here for a special occasion, and omg most the meat was really good, the meat had melted in my mouth. I just recommend the combo to get a variety of meat to try and the ishoni rice to complement it; It was different from what I'm used to (ayce kbbq). Service was standard, they will cook the A5 Wagyu for you. Interior is nice and big but you will need a reservation to get seating

Yelp
right when they opened i put my name on their waitlist and we waited about 2 and half hours for a table. they only gave us 10 mins grace period to come back but still made us wait 10-15 mins for a table to be cleared and cleaned. this place gets busy, id recommend making reservations. tried their Seattle Restaurant Week set for $35. we were able to try a variety of cuts: 3 beef, 1 chicken, 1 pork and 1 seafood. a bit disappointed about the yuzu sorbet being a miniature shot glass of yuzu slushi. the cuts were decent and sides of miso soup, rice, and kimchi was included. i'm a bit picky with my Yakiniku spots coming from Japan and Hawaii, i'd give it a 3.5/5 for overall experience but rounded up. they had a good SWR deal but not worth the 2-3 hr wait

Yelp
Love places with a narrow menu and do everything well. Ordered like 10 dishes and everything was great. The mushroom medley and the miso pork belly were two standouts. Have eaten there twice and relatively cheap, less than 100 per person with beers and sake

Yelp
Came here in November during Seattle restaurant week. We ordered the Ishoni beef combo and the Seattle restaurant week combo. All the food/drinks/desserts were pretty good. The meat wasn't as tender as I thought it was going to be, especially the wagyu beef short rib. It was good but I wasn't blown away and I probably wouldn't come back. The restaurant inside was beautiful, nice decor. Service is comparable to any other Japanese/korean bbq restaurant, meaning you don't know who to order through and you won't see the server who took your order for a while after your initial order. The bussers were great. Minus a star for value for price and service.

Yelp
The overall quality of food is amazing. The beef tongue is so thick and juicy. But. ..you can only one per table, that's not good. The servers seems overwhelmed and busy running around, kinda hard to get their attention. We have to ask for plates, utensils, and more water or to add more food. They limit your eating time there depends on numbers of people in your group. I know they are busy, but you want to enjoy your food with your friends and family especially you are celebrating special occasions. Street parking. It's Broadway. To be expected. Happy with the food
