I've been eyeing this place since it opened its location in Dallas a few months back. We visited on Sunday evening and were quite disappointed, unfortunately.
Vibes: quaint, cute, intimate. With the minimalist and modern decor, they've got a great setup for cute dates, casual hangouts, and I'm sure great brunch vibes in the heart of Bishop Arts! The menu is super cute - little fun facts about Australia scattered throughout, along with pencil-drawn doodles.
Drinks: Great selection of cocktails with all the liquors you'd desire! I got the East Side Spritz (gin, aloe, lemon, cucumber, sparkling wine) - a perfectly refreshing drink with that kick of bubbles!
Food: We were unimpressed with our choice of menu items... Unfortunately, they were out of oysters by dinner service (which makes sense as they're running a special this month). So we ended up getting:
- beet salad: The paper menu said Kale beet salad, but what we got was an arugula salad with some feta cheese and small pieces of beet, sprinkled with some orange pieces... very disappointing, as I was expecting kale and larger cubes of beet.
- braised lamb shoulder (Swiss chard, crispy fingerlings, labneh, zhoug): The braised lamb was done pretty well in texture - soft and breaks apart very easily with a fork. However, I thought that the meat was way too salty. With the fingerling potatoes, the saltiness was a little more mellow, but even then, I thought that the salt was overpowering.
- spicy Thai green curry (seasonal vegetables, basmati rice, herbs): Has great spicy kick. But the rice was done poorly! It must have been cooked on an oventop in a pan, rather than the rice cooker, because it was done very haphazardly, with half of the rice grains undercooked and some of it overcooked... It left rice grains stuck between my teeth as I bit down; not a great texture. And the green curry was a little perplexing, too. It just looked like a mashup of veggies... Broccoli was overcooked to where it was almost mushy and falling apart. I liked the spiciness of the curry, but that was about it.
Unfortunately, we won't be coming back here, at least for dinner service. Perhaps their brunch menu has better items.
