We have eaten at Isla Del Encanto a handful of times since we moved here last year, and we even ordered their catering for Thanksgiving and New Years!! You could say we're obsessed, lol. My husband is Puerto Rican and really likes the food here (as do I, of course!) The food is great, and the service is fantastic. Everyone there is really friendly and welcoming.
It's located in an unassuming location in a shopping plaza right off 120th, and it's somewhat small inside, but there are plenty of tables. It's so pretty and colorful inside with such a fun, vibrant atmosphere which makes it feel bigger, and they always have tables outside too. We randomly went one day around Christmastime and didn't realize they were having a big holiday "parranda" / party with live music and instruments. Even some of the guests brought their own tambourines and maracas! It was great. We've always lucked out with getting a table quickly, but you may have a small wait as there are always lots of people there.
We have had a variety of their food. We almost always order mofongo (with shrimp, pork, or chicken). Mofongo is buttery, mashed plantains, that are seasoned and fried). We usually order sorullitos (fried corn cheese sticks, although I managed to not have pictures of that!). For our toddler we've had both grilled and breaded chicken. I also enjoyed the pastelon which is a "lasagna" of sweet plantains and ground beef). For catering we've had arroz con gandules (rice with green pigeon peas, as classic PR dish), mofongo stuffed turkey, Guineitos en Escabeche (boiled unripe bananas with pickled onions), flancocho (dessert), coquito (regular and pistachio), lechón (roasted pork), pasteles (a traditional Puerto Rican dish with meat wrapped in banana leaves and masa dough)!! I'm not sure if they sell pasteles all year or just for holiday catering, but we were able to buy a bunch that were frozen to boil at home.
We consider this one of our regular places, and I highly recommend for eat in, take out, or catering!
