How Muslims Are Celebrating Ramadan During Coronavirus | Eater

"A university‑affiliated Islamic center serving a broad campus and city community that moved Ramadan programming online, offering a robust schedule of virtual activities—Quran recitations, lectures with scholars, and Zoom iftars led by the imam (Khalid Latif)—including niche themed iftars around interests like books and sports to help recreate congregational spirituality in people’s homes." - Sarah Khan

The Islamic Center at NYU has been one of my favorite places to attend Jummah prayers. There’s always a strong sense of community, and the khutbahs are insightful and meaningful. I especially enjoy staying after to listen to Imam Khalid, as his words always leave me with something to reflect on. I heard they’ve moved to a new location on 6th Avenue, and I’m looking forward to checking it out soon inshallah. It’s great to see the center growing and continuing to serve the community in such an impactful way.

The call to prayer echoed gently, like a whisper I didn’t know I missed. In a city so loud, how does the softest sound feel the most powerful?

ICNYU is truly an outstanding community center that goes above and beyond in serving the Muslim community in New York. Their work, especially during Ramadan, is nothing short of admirable. From hosting daily iftar gatherings to organizing meaningful prayers and fundraising for noble causes, they create a welcoming space for everyone. The sense of community they foster is inspiring, bringing people together in a way that strengthens faith and unity. Their dedication to supporting those in need and providing a spiritual home for so many is truly commendable. May they continue to grow and benefit the community for years to come!

Yelp
Today was my first time visiting the Islamic Center at NYU. Actually my first time in a long time in a mosque! Jumma prayers during the month of Ramadan. Really very good experience. You need a ID to get into the building, sign in. Take the elevator up. A beautiful room with floor to ceiling windows, open views of Washington Square park. I think today was in a different building next door law center, due to maybe large number of people. The room was filled to capacity. Excellent community, mostly all students and faculty and people that work near by. The Imam gave a fantastic talk. Sorry I don't know his name, but smart very progressive talk, relative pertinent to our lives in the US. I was looking at their website, they have many evening programs. At times living a foreign country we Muslims get confused and lose our identity. This is a great supportive community to practice Islam. all the best to you.

Yelp
Imam Khalid Latif delivers, without a doubt, the most inspirational khutbah's in the English language I have EVER heard. Whenever I hear a khutbah in English from another Imam, I feel like I've got jipped. Imam Latif's khutbah's have spoiled me. Do yourself a favor and attend Jumma at NYU this friday. It is certainly, certainly worth it.

Yelp
I am from Qatar, and I prayed "Al Jumaa" there and was really a useful and good Khutba, and the mosque was fully by the prayers. Really i liked the high level orgnisation inside the mosque. Hope to get another opportunity to pray there again.

Yelp
This is maybe the best Muslim community I have ever come across. It's a large mosque consisting of college students and Muslims from the local area. They offer free classes, Ramadan dinners, community outreach, some political activism, a wide array of guest speakers and lecture series, and overall an extremely welcoming and diverse community. No matter your background, these people excel in hospitality and make you feel welcome.

Yelp
Mashallah _ Imam Khalid Latif is generous and pious servant and Allah and provides - a very diverse group of the umma - with an enlightening and enriching experience everyday. I've attended a few Ramadan and Eid events at the center and It always reminds me of East London Mosque (in terms of eclecticism and positive energy) and the food (mostly S.E.ASIAN fare) is always incredible. Just recently I attended for the 1st Iftar of the month of Ramadan and the Imam even helped a young revert take Shahada with 100 witnesses! Alhamdulillah - an amasing time!
