Best Charleston Rooftop Bars or Restaurants With Outdoor Dining | Eater Carolinas

"Tucked away at the marina on Immigration Street, off of East Bay Street, sits breezy cafe Island Cabana. Utilized by boaters going out for the day, the establishment also welcomes anyone who wants to hang out on the dock with a frosé, fried shrimp, and fish tacos. There’s also a great selection of local beers and bait if you need boat supplies." - Erin Perkins

The Island Cabana Bar and Ship Store is a hidden gem in Charleston! From the moment we sat down, the view of the Ravenel Bridge was absolutely stunning—perfect backdrop for a laid-back afternoon. The food was even better than expected: the Cuban sandwich was perfectly pressed with all the right flavors, and the fish & chips were crispy, golden, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Add in friendly service, a relaxing vibe, and a coastal breeze, and you’ve got the recipe for an amazing day. We’ll definitely be back—highly recommend!

If you've not been, here's what you need to know: This is adjacent to Seabreeze Marina. Parking is in the lot on the other side of the dry stack, but you could turn at the Seabreeze propellers and drive down to drop off those who can't do the walk so well. Second, don't be afraid to eat out on the boardwalk, although sunny, the breeze out there can make it more comfortable than on the shaded porch. Order inside and they'll give you a pager. When it goes off you go back inside and get your food at the pickup window. Wear whatever, it's a mix of boaters, fishermen and landlubbers seeking a tasty meal with a pretty marina view. Bonus is the Ravenel bridge in the background and the USS Yorktown in the distance. In the relatively small "ships store" you can pick up the drinks, snacks, hats, sun shirts, sun screen etc that you forgot to bring. Or pick up a cool T-shirt, hat, tumbler, souvenir.

Google
Beautiful place. Laid back atmosphere. Delicious food. Kind staff. Decently clean bathrooms. It stormed during our stay here, but we still enjoyed the views very much.

Google
Fantastic food, good beverage choices, and a phenomenal location. The waterfront is always a great place to be. It’s somewhat of a hidden gem. It’s a favorite!

Toni DiPinto

Google
The food and drinks were great and we loved the atmosphere on the water by the bridge! I had the lowcountry fish tacos and a side of beans and rice. They also had a large variety of frozen cocktails, I got the strawberry daquari and it was delish. The location and parking were a bit tricky to find, just follow your GPS and it's just past the boat storage racks on the water.

Sabrina Gonzalez

Google
The view was beautiful, I had the fish tacos and they were out of this world. Was a little busy when we visited but you don’t feel the time they view is just perfect

Google
The food was great, I had shrimp with fries and omg amazing, the shrimp was a great potion and nice size. Nice and crispy even the fries was crispy. I also order the crab dip to go. The crab dip was also a nice potion. The price for both orders was under 20 bucks. The customer service was great I met the manager his name is Blake and he was very nice, he told me about the establishment and how the restaurant was there, he even told us about the menu. Nice environment right by the water it was hot out so I also ordered a frozen drink which was amazing. All and all nice environment, great food I will be going back.

Google
Amazing hidden gem. This little restaurant is delicious and right on the water. The food was fast, fresh and so tasty. The staff were nice. The inside is super cute and they have a little area of assorted goods to shop. Plenty of beer and seltzer to choose from!! Like other posts say you do have to park down the road and walk but it’s not far at all. You also get to watch the marina workers move boats with a forklift which is pretty cool. Great place! Will go again!

Yelp
The food was really good, given what I was expecting for a waterside dive kinda place. My fried fish sandwich was amazingly fresh, and smelled like the sea. My partners had the fish tacos, grilled and fried. They both thought highly of their choices, and both were barely able to finish, so definitely they had enough food. ICB has an inside location where you order food, grab your drinks, and pay. You're given a pager and it's too to you to find the seating you want. They have several tables under a covered area, and a long pier with stools on both sides. We chose the power, rounded up stools, and waited for our food to be ready. On a Friday evening, food took about 30-40 minutes to be ready, so be aware. Didn't care! The location on the water is just amazing.

Yelp
Such a fun spot right by the water! Parking is around the corner from the boat lifts, just a short walk away. There's plenty of seating inside and outside - outside seating has some shaded options too! We ordered the buffalo shrimp tacos, tuna poke nachos (which were HUGE), and a side of fries. Initially, we thought everything felt expensive, but the portions were a great size & everything was delicious. Also tried the OG frosé which was so refreshing. This hit the spot for us for a casual seaside spot. We can't wait to come back at sunset hour.
google avatar

Yelp
Really nice spot and hidden gem for now. Great place to bring visitors if they're looking for waterfront drinks and food! Bring a windbreaker - things can get a little windy and cold on the island cabana bar dock, but there are heaters under the porch area. We ordered tacos and fried shrimp: everything was fresh and tasty with fun drinks and a good selection of merch and dessert. They are probably usually swamped, but the staff are friendly and efficient.

Yelp
One of the only places that you can get seating on the water. The great place to come if you're just getting off the boat and wanna grab a drink or to even just sit by the water. It is self serve inside and then you can bring your drink out onto the pier and watch the boat throughout the harbor. Great view of the Ravenel Bridge with speakers that have music All the time. It can be really hot so make sure you wear sunscreen. The chairs outside are metal so they might be hot when you sit down. I got the mahi bites and they were a great taste and not too breaded. Very fresh and the people here are super nice. You can even get a bucket of seltzer if you are waiting to go onto the boat. The parking situation is limited in the front so you do have to park on the side of the street past the entrance.
google avatar

Angela J.

Yelp
Love Cabana bar! All the food is amazing but my go to is the ahi nachos and a pina colada! Great place to come enjoy lunch on the water especially on a nice day. Great views of the bridge and harbor as well as amazing and kind staff. Would highly recommend visiting this gem
google avatar

Kalie Y.

Yelp
The fish tacos were amazing! Service was pretty quick. Great selection of alcoholic slushees and NA slushees that were delicious! Location was a great spot for a good view of the bridge and the water. Good amount of seating offered outside, too.
google avatar

Gayle L.

Yelp
Super delicious!!! Loved watching a storm roll in over the water from the covered picnic table area. Yummy selection of frozen drinks. Parking is in a lot next door to the boat storage.
google avatar

Jessica C.

Yelp
Didn't order food. Frozen drinks are delicious! Staff were friendly. Parking is a bit of a walk away. Lots of merchandise, snacks, supplies, and Knick knacks. Wonderful view of the bridge! Nice place to hang out for a drink or food.
google avatar

Heidi M.

Yelp
This was a fun little spot for a quick bite and a couple drinks! We sat outside overlooking the water and watching the weather roll in. So neat! This is a grab your drink, go to the counter and order kind of place. Considering THAT, I feel like it's a bit pricey. The food was good though, and the selection of drinks was interesting. I would definitely recommend for a chill lunch.
google avatar

Kyle R.

Yelp
Came here with some friends and it was fantastic! Absolutely amazing spot on the water, good prices for Charleston, delicious food, and nice staff! Definitely am coming back next time. Everyone's meals looked so good.
google avatar

Brian C.

Yelp
Cool chill spot to relax and grab some brews. Stopped here on our way through Charleston, and was thirsty for a quick drink. Parking was a bit confusing, but the staff was friendly and very helpful. A nice open spot to relax and catch a scenic view. Enjoyed our time relaxing here.
google avatar

Sharon L.

Yelp
The food was great and it has a full bar. Sitting on the pier is so nice. There are some umbrellas if it's too sunny. They give you a buzzer to let you know your food is ready.

Ryan C.

Yelp
Nope.. not sure how this place has such great reviews on their food. It took forever to come out and it was severely lacking flavor. Wife ordered shrimp roll and it was simply just a slop of mayo and shrimp; bread was decent. I got the fish bowl and had my mahi swimming in Texas Pete to add some flavor. If you have 2-3 hours to hang out and get absolutely hammered then not having your food might not be an issue for you. I'd advise to bring some ole bay with you at a min.
google avatar

Megan M.

Yelp
I was served inedible conch fritters, clearly the frying oil hadn't been changed in a while. The person at the expo window had more than enough time to look over this dish and determine these were burnt beyond belief but instead served the food to me. After debating if I should bring this to their attention or not, I decided to take the burnt bits to the cashier. She promptly recognized the issue and before I could finish speaking was in the process of taking the dish back to the kitchen and asking them for another batch of fritters which at that point I had no interest in. I would have really appreciated the $13 dollars I paid for inedible burnt food refunded to me instead of having to wait for another batch of fritters. The cook was kind enough to bring the fritters (which also weren't good) out to me and apologized for the mistake... I appreciate the gesture. I'd recommend skipping out on the food here. Drinks & views were great though.
google avatar

Maxine C.

Yelp
I always have an an amazing time here! The go to place whenever we have visitors because the food drinks and view are unbeatable. I tried the wings for the first time and as a wing enthusiast, I can say they were absolutely out of this world. My only complaint is the prices, but the quality and service make it tolerable. Can't wait until next time.
google avatar

Emma P.

Yelp
I love recommending Island cabana bar to anyone that comes and visits or just for a girls night out. It's very chill vibes. We love the idea of just grabbing a bucket, buying some beer or seltzers to go in it and sitting out on the dock and watching all the boats come in, it's beautiful over there. They also have froze, we rarely ever get food, but sometimes my friends get their bowls or if I'm really hungry I just get the fries, they're pretty good. It's a cute place to take pictures after. sometimes They have live music and it's dog friendly. Parking is on the street and not terrible but heads up there is a train that goes by so you could get stuck there for a little bit if you're leaving during train time but I would highly recommend going. PSA I Haven't been this winter since it got really cold out so I'm not sure if they have heaters out. they have small inside area to sit with a cute market as well as the regular food and beer. The team there is cool and always helpful and nice.
google avatar

Laura P.

Yelp
I really like this place- so relaxed, great view, super friendly people, dog friendly. Parking always seems to be tricky but it actually wasn't any of the times we went. You go inside the marina to order food or but your own drinks (big selection). The forest time, we just went for happy hour (drinks). Tje next time, we ate there. My husband had the fish tacos which he really liked - i got the tidewater shrimp which i would not have picked had I paid attention or asked what the tidewater spice is (it tastes like old bay). Staff was very friendly. We will go back for sure!

Yelp
Popped in for a bite on a Monday afternoon. Had some trouble getting to the place waiting on the train, but once it passed we found ample "street parking" in the side lot as parking in the boating area near the restaurant is not allowed. I ordered the Mahi Fish Bowl and my husband got the special Italian Hoagie. Everything was delish and more high-end than anticipated given the dockside location. The employee at the cash register was so kind and patient and went above and beyond to correct a mistake with our food. Great selection of beer, wine, and froses with an option for buckets of mix and match! Music selection was superbly matched to the venue and gorgeous dockside views of the water. Would love to come again soon and try something else.

Steve W.

Yelp
Waited almost an hour for french fries. Way too slow of service. There seemed to be no urgency
google avatar

Michael B.

Yelp
No parking anywhere near the restaurant. It's not easy to find either. Because of these restrictions, we have not tried the restaurant. If we see any outstanding reviews on the food, maybe we will Uber there. We are just too old to walk that far from the nearest parking lot
google avatar

Ryan B.

Yelp
Very cool vibe on the river with Island music playing over the dock speakers. Definitely the spot to be on a sunny afternoon or a summer evening. Be careful of the train that blocks the road sometimes. Not too big of a deal unless you are in a hurry. We had to wait about 10 minutes.
google avatar

Brandon L.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I love it here! Great establishment. Would like to see the email posted for the public! Wanted send some thank you notes via outlook
google avatar

Janelle P.

Yelp
A locals spot I found from TikTok! As you walk up to the location there is a very cool boating lodging system that is very interesting and definitely a conversation starter for my group! We were intrigued! We then got the pouches as they are so fun to drink and I tried the "Frose" flavor which is basically a frozen rose. It was so yummy-and strong! We then walked outside to the dock and there is a long wooden bar with stools to sit on! It is the most perfect view of the bridge and bay! Perfect place to sit and enjoy the Frose. There is also other flavors to choose from as my friends tried and enjoyed.
google avatar

Maddie R.

Yelp
I actually heard about this place from TikTok and had to see what it was all about. The food was so good and fresh. We ordered the blackened mahi bites, conch fritters, and black beans with rice to share. The view was great! Staff was very friendly as well.
google avatar

Jeff H.

Yelp
This is a local hidden gem here with the best views of the Ravenelle bridge right off the Cooper River! All the seafood is locally sourced, and I can't say enough about the mahi tacos I had, simply delicious. Plenty of local craft, beers and wines as well as a gift shop, and the service was impeccable.
google avatar

Justin J.

Yelp
Incredible scenery right on the water. Pick your beer, put ice in buckets and head outside. Heaters under the awning, and the views are amazing
google avatar

Alana D.

Yelp
I came here with a group of friends and it was a great time! It's a smaller bar with absolutely gorgeous views of the Ravenel bridge! I spent a summer evening here it was so nice to enjoy the views with a delicious drink. I was even able to watch dolphins go by! For ordering you go into their shop grab drinks and then take a pager that will go off when your food is ready. For drinks I started with the froze pouch! There's a handful of flavors including strawberry, mango and pina colda. I mixed the strawberry pina colda and it was delicious! I then decided to split a beer bucket which was 5 beers for $15 dollars. The beer was both good and a great deal! Food wise is why I'm giving 4/5 stars. The food was in the $15-20 range with smaller portion sizes. I ordered the fish bowl which I thought was great but everyone else in my group seemed to have left hungry especially those that ordered the tacos. In addition to food the parking was also difficult. I had to walk about 10 minutes to the restaurant from the parking. Luckily for me I was able to follow people there if not I think I would have missed the restaurant and not have known where to park! I think the ideal way of getting here is by boat if you have one. Many boats came up to get drinks while I was there and they seemed to be having a great time!
google avatar

Felicity S.

Yelp
What a hidden gem! If you are looking for a spot that has a beautiful view of the water, Island Cabana Bar has just that. With a dock that extends out far into the water, you are as close to the bridge as you possible can get! This location is very low key and different than many downtown spots. Inside you order your food/drinks and its kind of like a convenience store. Their Frose is delicious and I would highly recommend. When I went they also had lawn games like corn hole, which I always find to be a huge plus!
google avatar

Karen T.

Yelp
Views are of course nice, people were friendly, but food was just OK. No parking there, so you have to park outside the boatyard, basically by the access road near the port/train. The have beer and wine and alcohol slushies and plenty of space to sit and look at the bridge/water, although a lot of it is not shaded. Don't forget to be aware of the train schedule (they post it there), otherwise you won't be able to leave (or get there) for an hour or so in the 3p-4p timeframe. Worth checking out, but unless you have a boat not sure how often you'd go back.
google avatar

Michael Q.

Yelp
Seabreeze's Island Cabana Bar is a cool little dockside place to enjoy your cocktails, food, and the Cooper River! ICB is like a small marina general store that also has a kitchen. The kids were stimulated and enjoyed all the drink, popcorn, and candy choices. Ordering is similar to a Panera type QSR where you order at the counter, pay, and then they bring you your order while you chill at a picnic table and enjoy your drinks. The layout is brilliant in that you have room under the roof (picnic tables) OR you can venture out to the community tables and enjoy the sun! At this price point, you're on the water, won't break the bank to feed your family, and will leave satisfied. ICB has all your bar food classics, walks the line well between QSR and restaurant, and plenty of drinks from which to choose. Standouts include the cuban (small, but packed with flavor), fish tacos (love that crema), and the perfectly prepared wings. Many places on the water (especially in the Chuck) phone it in with the food because they figure that they're on the water and the water is the main draw. ICB understands that yes, you're there for the water but also WANTS to impress you with their food. Impressed, we were. Simple, tasteful, and welcoming. Everything you need in a QSR (and the view) are here, in one place. While it was a little chilly that evening, we look forward to returning in the spring when the weather is a little warmer (hot, even) and we can cool off with a beverage and dive into [wink] ICB's delicious bar food.
google avatar

Meg C.

Yelp
I've been here a few times now. The location is nice as it is directly over the water. You are close to the highway and train track so to avoid waiting, time your arrival carefully if not coming by boat. There are boat slips and easy docking areas as well. I really love their frose pouches and buffalo shrimp! Their food is tasty for sure, but for the amount you get the price is kind of high. Higher than what I would like to pay. They were pretty skimpy on the fries as well. The flavor is there but up the amount please! $20 for shrimp and fries is too high. Good on ya if you have patrons willing to pay for that. Pet friendly and live music, its a nice hang out for a sunny Sunday afternoon.
google avatar

Jeff S.

Yelp
You really do have to pay attention to the train schedule or you get stranded in the "parking lot" for a bit but eyes wide open going In

Nicole H.

Yelp
Great little place to visit! It was our first stop on our vacation and did not disappoint. It was a little hard to find as there are no signs that say it's there or where to park. The strawberry daiquiri/pina colada frose was fabulous and my husband really enjoyed his beer(s). Only wish we could get them where we live. Our fish tacos and sandwich were delicious. Would definitely go back again and recommend to friends.

Isabella A.

Yelp
Such a cute date night spot. We went on a Sunday hardly anyone was there and the view is perfect! The frosé was yummy.

Ian L.

Yelp
An awesome, tucked away place with gorgeous views of the marina. Inside, there are coolers with beer and wine, as well as merchandise and boating needs. This is where you pay for everything and order food as well. Worth noting is that they only accept cards, no cash. If you've eaten at Dispensary or Blind Tiger, the food will be familiar to you. The difference is that there's also a large seafood menu. $19 will get you 12 large shrimp and fries that, 10 years ago, food bloggers would've referred to as "crack." Outside is where the action is. Contemporary "island country" music plays on speakers that run all the way down the dock. There are several picnic tables, and a TON of seating along the dock. You can't beat the view of the water and bridge with the sea breeze blowing in.
google avatar

Elise D.

Yelp
Great spot for happy hour on the water! The one hesitation I had about going here is that everyone says the parking is rough. It really wasn't that bad, you just park on the road that leads up to the marina. From there, it takes only a few minutes to walk through the marina and to the bar. The drinks here are self serve, so you just grab them from the cooler and pay at the front. They have buckets and ice so you can grab multiple beers at a time. They have a great deal of 5 island coastal lagers for $15. The rest of the beers are $7 and they have a wide variety to choose from. They also have seltzers and non alcoholic options. Although they have a lot of beer options, when I saw the frose machines on the way in, I knew that's what I was getting. A huge pouch of frose is only $10 and it was boozy and not overly sweet. I really enjoyed the watermelon flavor because it didn't have an artificial taste and was very refreshing. They let you try samples before you decide. Once we had our drinks, we headed out on the dock and there was a nice breeze. There was also live music, so the ambiance was great. I will definitely be adding this place to my rotation of happy hour spots! One last thing to look out for is there is a train that can block the road any time between 3 and 4:15 pm, so if you're trying to leave or get in at that time, you may have trouble doing so.
google avatar

Lauren W.

Yelp
I love to go here for the view after spending a day downtown! It's the best view of the Ravenel Bridge. There aren't a ton of options, but I've enjoyed all the food that I've eaten there. It is nothing fancy, but a nice chill spot. It is at a boat marina. So there are grab and go drink coolers inside and various items (hats, sunscreen, and other merchandise). They sometimes have live music outside!
google avatar

Elizabeth G.

Yelp
I've been twice in the last month. I'm obsessed with the idea that we can grab our own beers/drinks from the coolers. A great place for groups to get buckets. Easy check out process. Green goddess salad is something I dream about. will continue to go! Parking is confusing if it's your first time however it's not hard, just park on the street!
google avatar

Jennifer C.

Yelp
Came here for a quick lunch before leaving Charleston. Nice views of the marina with outdoor seating.
google avatar

Jen X.

Yelp
This place is neat bc it's tucked away in a sort of hidden place so it's not too busy. The food was pretty decent, might be a little pricey. The beer concept is kinda different bc they're all in the fridge and you get it yourself. I'd try the fries next time. Also cool place to hang out and watch a game. They also sell merchandise inside which is interesting
google avatar

Kristin S.

Yelp
5/5 HANDS DOWN! Came into town from Indy, I found this little speck on the map & we decided to come have a snack & brews. THE BLACKENED MAHI BITES WERE AMAZING - absolutely recommend. And the fries, I could have eaten 5 lbs of them. Both Lyft drivers seemed lost & said they have never heard of it, which was shocking because it was perfection. Very crowded, great energy amongst staff - run, don't walk!
google avatar

Samuel B.

Yelp
Excellent fresh food with a view of the Cooper and the Ravanel. Parking out on the road and a short walk, live music and sports on TV. Nice little date spot that'll have you considering a membership at the marina's boat club.
google avatar

Mack F.

Yelp
My cousin and I sat outside on the pier/dock with her dog and had great water views. It is a self-service type of place. I got the fish tacos and they were so good! The ONLY complaints I have is that they are a bit pricey and they put just a tad bit too much sauce on the tacos bc it dripped everywhere and was a bit messy. The fries were probably the best fries we've ever had! Not sure what seasoning they put on it but DAMN were they good! I could order 3 portions to take home after I ate there! The beer is a bit pricey but a nice selection. They also have cold brew on tap. The gift shop selection is nice but PRICEY! $40 for a TSHIRT! I opted not to get one.
google avatar

Tiffany V.

Yelp
What a fun place! I love that you go in to order your own food, it's served on a tray and then you have the option of sitting outside on the dock to watch boats coming and going. They have daily catch specials, how great is that!? We all ordered fish tacos of some kind and they were all so delicious! They also have smoked wings that were the bomb! Their fries are small, crispy and really good. You can also order a variety of sandwiches that all looked to be tasty. They have slushee machines for adult cocktails, YUM! You can build your own 6 pack of local beers and take them to your seat. We had an amazing experience here. The staff was friendly, the facility was clean and the food was outstanding. I can't wait to go back.

J S.

Yelp
Great little bar with awesome outside area with a nice view of the bridge & river/harbor. Just be sure to plan your arrival and departure around the train (and King Tide).

Zelda S.

Yelp
The food was burnt. They charge a 3% credit card fee but do not allow you to pay with check or cash. Their outside ceiling heaters are between tables so basically useless. They do not emit heat over the table By 2 :30 pm they had run out of clam chowder which actually is a good thing. My friend was able to order their last bowl and it was warm, not hot, and was more like a gumbo then a chowder Their conch fritters were burnt. Very disappointed to pay 70$ for food that was not good Also they have no parking in front of restaurant so you have to park on other side of a boat parking where the employees are parking boats so it could be dangerous if an accident were to happen.

Yelp
***Check the train schedule and parking as you have to walk to the location, call and ask about handicapped parking!*** This place is a fantastic gem! Great food, solid drink choices, and if you bring your fishing gear, you can fish right off the pier with a gorgeous view of the Ravenel Bridge and the harbor! This was a surprise as we hadn't heard of this but our NY friends loved it! Great for sunset!
google avatar

Bettie H.

Yelp
The food was excellent service was great! I recommend the Shem creek shrimp roll it is the best! The French fries and special made sauces are delicious!
google avatar

Caitlin J.

Yelp
This place is truly a hidden gem! We stopped by on a Monday night to watch the sunset over the Ravenel and it was lovely! This is technically a store/restaurant for the marina, so you can't park on site without being a marina member. This no big deal because there is a small lot of street parking just outside the Marina entrance, but it is a short walk across the parking lot to get to the restaurant. Once there, the place is very cute and the employees were very nice and helpful! They've got seafood cooked to order, frose, canned/bottled alcohol to go, local snacks (including Cirsea ice cream!), and the standard marina shop merch. I ordered the Island Cabana Fish Bowl with mahi as the catch of the day. It was very tasty and the portions pretty large, but maybe a little expensive for what it is. The alcohol is VERY expensive but they are a marina store and I think marked up alcohol is pretty standard in those parts. The real selling point though is the view! They have a beautiful, super chill view of the Ravenel across the water. I will definitely be back again!
