The most delicious ice cream in the area! There are many flavors to choose from, so there is something for everyone. Vegan options are also available! Clean establishment with fast service. Indoor and outdoor seating available. The outdoor deck is dog friendly and has a handicap access ramp. Best spot for a quick sweet little treat!

After reading all the reviews, we had very high expectations. We visited in the shoulder season, so there were other customers, but it was not crazy busy. The staff were pleasant but did not offer any suggestions, offer samples, or share any directions as to the ordering process. It was our first time there, so we watched the people in front of us and followed suit. I would not call the staff friendly or engaging, but they were efficient. Overall, the ice cream was good however my husband commented that the birthday cake flavor did not taste anything like cake batter (i tasted his and agreed) and he only received one nugget of cookie dough in his cookie dough scoop. I had about three in my scoop. As you can see from the photos, this did not stop us from eating every bit of ice cream in our bowls. With just a few other people eating indoors, it was easy to spot crumbs on the floor and the lack of any coordinated decorations. I'm guessing in the summer this place is decked out and packed with families enjoying their vacation.

Excellent homemade ice cream and waffle cones made right in front of you!! So freaking creamy and delicious!!! We went the first day on the island and loved it!!! We ate outside on the large deck! Highly recommend!!! Don't miss out on the best flavors and rich and creamy treat!!!

Google
There seems to be a flavor for each day of the week! Can't get enough of these wonderful flavors. Friendly service and it's great to finish the day off with something sweet! sooo yummy!

Google
This place was AWESOME!!! The efficiency of this place makes places like Chick Fil A look like amateurs! Order at the door, then it goes to a bunch of employees waiting to fulfill your requests, you pay and they hand it to you instantly!! Flavor variety and choices for days and OMG they are full of flavor!! This place is where you should stop!! Highly recommend either a waffle cone or bowl, you'll thank me after!! 🤤😋🤤😋🤤 Parking is a little tricky during peak times, but overflow lot across the street. Ample seating as well.

Google
Delicious and generously sized ice cream. Flavors were great and varied. They have homemade waffle cones. There’s more parking spots across the street.

Google
This place deserves the hype! We got banana splits and they were delicious and HUGE. Could easily be shared between two or three people. Wide range of creative flavors to choose from (our favorites were Marsh Mud and Snickers). I got all the toppings for my banana split, but would forego the sauces next time as they obscured the ice cream a little too much with their sweetness. We came in the off season (February) so there was no line at all. Would definitely come back again if we're in the area!

Katherine S

Google
My sister had come here a few times with my brother in law and absolutely LOVES this place, so naturally we had to go together when I came to visit. I got the cookie dough ice cream in a cup and it was good! A tiny bit sweet for me but still happy with my choice! Will definitely get a waffle cone next time because those looked amazing. Definitely a very popular spot and for a reason 👌🏻

Yelp
The Yelp says open till 10 am...it should say 10 PM. Cute ice cream spot. Nice little day trip from Virginia Beach!

Yelp
While traveling to the area, people as far away as Pocomoke City told us "if you're going to Chincoteague, you have to go to the Island Creamery". It was great advice. A nice shop, decorated with a lighthouse shaped building. Upon entering you are greeted by the aroma of freshly made waffle cones - yum! Shop was spotless, service was fast and friendly. I had the Mud Marsh - probably the best chocolate ice cream I've had - silky, dark chocolate without too much cream, slight hint of bitterness - amazing!

Yelp
Loved the ice creams that they had. All the flavors looks so awesome and we wish we could have tasted all of them. My only complaint is that while we were there, we felt rushed and the workers had RBF when we asked for samples. It wasn't even busy. I know it gets busy, but to really experience an ice cream shop, u would need to look at the ice cream itself and not just look at a drawing board of the flavors... If we were on the island longer we would have come back for other flavors.
google avatar

Linda O.

Yelp
The ice cream is not to my liking. I tried plain vanilla, butter pecan, and rum raisin. For these flavors, I had a hard time determining what was what. It was basically vanilla, with some added flavoring. Didn't get many pecans in the butter pecan and the raisins in the rum raisin were chewy. Colorful, large space that's family friendly. Even given that, the main thing--their ice cream--doesn't make the grade for me.
google avatar

Ping R.

Yelp
The flavors were loaded with toppings! Quality of the ice cream itself was fine as far as your average hard scoop texture. Staff were reasonably friendly and the restaurant was clean. The space is surprisingly larger than you expect of most ice cream shops but it only seems that way during the early hours. In the evenings this place has a line spanning dozens of people and a madhouse of vacationers inside. You can tell lots of families spanning multiple generations are mostly coming here out of tradition. Overall this was a fun touristy to-do if you're in the area.

Yelp
I am usually waiting in line for the best ice cream on the shore, but it is 1:00pm on a Sunday... and got right back in.

Yelp
I visit island creamery every time I go to Chincoteague island! They were voted the best ice cream shop in America in 2023 and it's well deserved! They have so many flavors to choose from, anyone (even with dietary restrictions) could easily find something to get! My go to is typically the Oreo flavor. All of their ice cream is homemade and it shows. There are always chunks of Oreos and the ice cream is SO creamy, no ice crystals like you get in your ice cream at some places. My last visit I tried the snickers cheesecake flavor. If you like snickers, you'll love this flavor! There's always a line, even during off season occasionally, but they're so efficient you'll never have to wait in line more than a few minutes. There's parking directly out front of the shop, but that gets full pretty quickly. They have a separate parking area directly across the street and more parking behind the shop. This place is a must visit! Definitely worth the stop if you're anywhere close to Chincoteague.

Yelp
Competitive parking lot situation during post-meal hours. The poor staff probably spend as much time explaining what's in the various flavors to tourists as they do waiting for people to finish sampling. I don't get the hype. The flavors are alright, with coconut being one of the favorites for our group, but the texture across the board is a little gummy, rather than creamy. The last straw was when I found a small hair in my ice cream. I'd originally planned on hitting up another of their locations to try other flavors like Cherries Jubilee / Rum Raisin / Limoncello, but this experience encouraged me to save my calories for other treats.
google avatar

Melissa T.

Yelp
Best ice cream in Chincoteague! I love to go here with the kids. And the affogato is perfection! The parking lot is small, so we prefer to ride our bikes and avoid the parking lot. The service never disappoints and they have a great system for the busy crowds. I also bought a long sleeve sweater this time!
google avatar

Yelp
When I say this was a great detour back to our part of Virginia is was the service from Hailey was great inviting cordial and just plain ole food vibes the whole shop was bustling with ice cream lovers from all over and the lines were moving that you just new this was a well organized cool treat establishment. The ice cream is extraordinary coffee ice cream chocolate syrup hot fudge wet walnuts just plenty of options for your ultimate cool treat This is a must go and see and a go and eat!
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious and creative ice cream flavors. They were well staffed with friendly and helpful people. We had pony tracks and Iced Nirvana both, love the Iced Nirvana. The location was easy to get to but parking is scarce. There is parking across the street. Go early. We got there around 6:15, no line, when we were leaving the line was out the door but moves quickly with their system.
google avatar

Stephanie D.

Yelp
Quick, helpful staff and operation despite long lines (expected for summer) and all was super delicious and tasty especially the freshly made cones.
google avatar

Joy S.

Yelp
My family and I came to visit Chincoteague the day after Labor Day on a Tuesday night at 8:30pm and the place was packed! I don't know if they were locals or people visiting but everyone was enjoying themselves. The ice cream portions are huge and our sundaes were so delicious. We will definitely be back again this vacation.
google avatar

Heidi S.

Yelp
If any restaurant/eatery needs to learn a thing about efficiency, I'd advise they pay a visit to Island Creamery. They know how to handle crowds and they do it with smiles. Seriously.. they work so hard! We stopped in on a Saturday evening a few weeks back while visiting the island. They have a designated entrance and exit to keep things flowing. Upon entry, the sweet smell of waffle cones is just intoxicating! They offer tastes of any of their daily offerings - including vegan and sugar free varieties. On our visit, I didn't venture far enough inside and didn't see all the offerings in the 2nd freezer case before I had already ordered. No matter, I was SO happy with my selection - dark chocolate with salted caramel. Hubby got the same thing in a waffle cone. Cone servings are so big, they lay them in a paper boat! Plenty of indoor seating, but you'll want to enjoy it outside on a nice day or evening. They have a deck with a few chairs and tables as well. Staff, service, food, cleanliness - all spot on. 5+ stars!

Yelp
Definitely the most popular place on the island to get something sweet. You put your orders in at the front door and then the grill send it over electronically to the cashier while another crew works on building your order. It is very efficient to move a lot of people in and out. I really appreciate that. There are some smaller sizes available so that you can sample a couple of different flavors. The sorbet must have real fruit in it because we were getting raspberry seeds in our teeth afterwards. Everything was so good. Sometimes when you go to places like this, you think man I could've just bought this at the grocery store for half the price but not here. I think they make their own and sell it. It was super busy when we first went in and on the way off the island we passed it again. It was even busier at that point. Definitely do not be deterred by the amount of people you see at the door or the amount of cars in the parking lot. It looked like there was more parking around the back of the building. Plus, it seems like most people get their food to go. We had plenty of options for seating. There was an indoor and outdoor section. it is well worth the stop to try some of their flavors.
google avatar

Jack S.

Yelp
Best ice cream I've ever had! Service is fast depending on how long the line is. Don't be discouraged by the long line, they move people in and out super fast. They have indoor and outdoor seating so there are usually places to sit and eat after ordering. It's always pretty cramped inside since so many people come through.
google avatar

DeAnn H.

Yelp
The ice cream was amazing. The portions were really generous. The only reason I'm giving it a four stars because I kind of felt like I was hurded through the whole experience and able to try the flavors.
google avatar

Nicole M.

Yelp
This place was top-notch! Fully staffed with the nicest teens/young adults. They were working hard! Once person taking orders on an iPad, several others making the orders, and someone you pay while waiting. Very organized and professional! I got the coconut and it was delicious! Filled with fresh coconut flakes. My mom got orange sherbet and butter pecan. She said it was really good. Fun atmosphere, very clean, and super friendly people. Don't miss this one!

Yelp
Can one live on ice cream on an island? I think so. That is, Chincoteague Island, the place where literally hundreds line up at night in the summer to get a taste of this delicious ice cream. Is it good? Good! It's outstanding! I was here many years ago in the summer, and the quality has not changed one bit. I am a bit of a ice cream snob: if I think something isn't up to par, then I will definitely know. This place outshines every other local creamery I've been to, including a local creamery in my own state! What's the difference? The crunchy, delectable waffle cones, which have a buttery crunch to them. The chocolate ice cream was super rich combined with the peanut butter, making for a perfect pairing. I added the Java jolt to the cone and it was the best coffee ice cream I've had. It's got brownie pieces in it and espresso beans. Today the heat index was like 105 or so. The ice cream made it tolerable. You can even take some ice cream home for your friends and family. Do not miss this place.
google avatar

Frances L.

Yelp
I heard the ice cream was the best and it did not im disappoint! Service was fast and they have so many flavors (some referencing the local industry). I got the pony tracks (obviously) and it was delicious. Fairly priced and well worth the sweet treat.
google avatar

Rachel K.

Yelp
I loved huge selection of flavors! I wish I could've tried them all. Cake batter and Marsh mud were delicious. The line was long but moved quickly.
google avatar

Cheryl T.

Yelp
Fabulous homemade Icecream shop. Service was friendly. I tasted what I thought I wanted before ordering. Service was fast and efficient. A treat for sure. Enjoyed so much I forgot to take a picture before it was gone! You can't go wrong here. Standing in line (if you go when there is a line) is worth it. They offer both vegan and sugar free options, if you're interested. I had bourbon caramel crunch, which was sweat and creamy with the right amount of crunch (the brittle pieces) and my friend almond joy which they swooned over!
google avatar

Christine C.

Yelp
A charming ice cream joint with homemade ice cream and interesting flavors. As a visitor to the island, I appreciated that they incorporated local elements with flavors such as "salty marsh" and "pony tracks." There was ample indoor and outdoor seating. The ice cream was creamy and rich. Would return!
google avatar

Jeannette S.

Yelp
If you like hand dipped ice cream you will want to visit. Flavors change weekly and seasonal. Depending on who is dipping the ice cream there's not a big difference between one or two scoops when getting it in a bowl. The line can get long in the evening so the afternoon is a better time to visit (while everyone else is at the beach). They have enough flavors that we visit several times during our vacation to try multiple flavors. We all like a different flavor so all flavors are good.

Joe S.

Yelp
Greatest creamery I have been to Very busy but they are quick and they have a process People see a line and leave but it moves quick and the ice cream is the BEST!!!
google avatar

Lauren V.

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised how good this ice cream is! Not a lot was open but thank goodness island creamery was! Wasn't expecting it to be so delicious. Very efficient and lots of flavors. Would return if ever in the area again

Yelp
Do yourself a favor come here if you are ever in the area. You won't regret it, I promise! Based on the recommendations of two friends we knew we needed to stop here on our travels. They have a great system down where you can scan the QR code to see the flavors of the day and decide while you wait in line. We came at 5:00 so a little bit of an off-.time but still a wait. It moved quickly and the woman who took our order was nice and answered our questions since we were first timers. The pineapple upside down cake made wit chunks of pineapple in the cake batter was delicious as well as Feb pony tracks! I sampled my Husbands coconut and the bourbon caramel pecan and both were amazing as well. Waffle cones are freshly made and when we drive by at 7:30 they evening there was a line down the block, and from eating there earlier we could tell why! There is seating inside and outside as well as clean bathrooms!

Alex B.

Yelp
If this review was about ice cream alone... 5 stars over and over. Their ice cream was excellent. They make their own ice cream and clearly perfected the art. It doesn't taste like flavoring... for example the butter pecan has nice healthy pecans in it with excellent ice cream. The service was fine. They clearly operate in "rush mode" even when things are slow and easy. Due to this they limit samples to 3 per group... I had a group of four people... I guess one of us can't try the ice cream! Lol the staff was also a little short with you. However service was very quick, pricing was extremely fair, and portions generous. I'd love to come again.
google avatar

Sally C.

Yelp
Definitely worth checking out and getting some of this ice cream. When you walk in the wonderful smell of waffle cones will slap you in the face. It smells so good!!! The menu is right there and all the sizes and prices. You order and then move down to the register. Since it was off season there was no line but it's not like that in the summer. You can sample if you want. I did not - I just asked a few questions but my friend had 3 samples before picking. I wanted something like a Rocky Road and they recommended the Pony Tracks. They have so many flavors such as Butter Pecan, Almond Joy, Absolutely Nuts and Oreo and etc etc etc. I definitely got a kids cup but they have so many different sizes. They also have banana splits and flurries. Something for everyone. They have bathrooms and a small shop. There is indoor and outdoor seating. You can also get some to go and if you call ahead they will have it ready for you. The girls were so friendly....especially Kathy who is sending back my Visa since I decided to leave it there. :( Awesome customer service.

Yelp
More often than not when a local suggests that a certain ice cream store in their hometown has the best or pretty good ice cream, disappointment results after trying out the place. Not this time! My partner and I were in town for some R&R and gave this place a try. I had a double scoop in a cup, 1 rum raisin and 1 bourbon caramel crunch and she had 1 scoop each of java jolt and mint chip. The primary attribute common with all 4 flavors was the creaminess of the ice cream...the local cows deserve the credit here. My favorites were the java jolt...coffee ice cream with chocolate covered espresso beans and the rum raisin, which had a nice kick! Try this place out and you wont be disappointed!

Cheryl W.

Yelp
The best homemade ice cream. Plenty of flavors. Great seasonal offerings and the waffle cones are amazing Great staff
google avatar

Michelle M.

Yelp
Loved their Bourbon Crunch Ice Cream ; there was a little bit of a line but the wait was well worth it!
google avatar

Audrey G.

Yelp
OMG! I love ice cream and I'm pretty particular about it. This is the real deal! We stopped in for dessert and so many choices! Dining partner chose Bourbon Caramel Crunch in a waffle cone. Loved it! Of course, I had to taste it and indeed, delicious! I ordered a sugar cone with chocolate peanut butter and almond Joy flavors ice cream. Both excellent. Very creamy, very rich, very delicious. We saw some milk shakes and I am looking forward to getting one of those! They have a neat system for ordering- you tell the first person your order and your name and it's entered into an iPad. You walk over to the register, they ask your name and you pay. By the time you get to one of the many tables, someone calls your name and brings your goodies to you! It works so well! Also, before you order, you can ask to taste the flavors you want to! There are shirts, hats and hoodies for sale in an adjacent space. You can pay to be free advertising! All in all, an excellent product and an excellent system. Loved it!

Brian L.

Yelp
The smell when you walk in is like walking into a freshly baked brownie topped with just-churned ice cream! Terrific ice cream, sundaes, ice cream cakes and more. Very professional and friendly people working there. Always crazy busy, even in off-season. Try the Wallops Rocket Fuel ice cream In a malted shake. Incredibly unique and delicious!
google avatar

Daniel F.

Yelp
Island Creamery is a must if you're in Chincoteague. It's home made hand dipped ice cream with a multitude of flavors that are unique and also your typical flavors. I opted for rocket fuel which was chocolate with cinnamon and Chile peppers. It was unique and delicious. The sugar cones came in a bowl for the kids and the ice cream was creamy and delicious. Staff was pleasant and answer all our questions with a smile about the different flavors. One thing that would be nice is a sign indicating what's in each named flavor so you don't have to ask. They have plenty of toppings and options as well as a little gift shop with hats and t-shirts. The inside has a small town feel without being old or new age. The ice cream is definitely above average for flavor and taste. It's gets pretty busy and even though there is quite a bit of space inside, the line goes out the door at night. We chose to visit during the mid day hours and it was perfect. Just a short wait for all of our items. There is also a patio/deck outside with limited seating as well. We chose inside because it was a bit warm out. I look forward to this place when we come to Chincoteague even though I rarely eat ice cream anymore. It is quite the treat.
google avatar

Sarah K. P.

Yelp
Super friendly and helpful staff! Parking lot was packed but we found parking across the street and didn't have any trouble. Crossing the street can be tough if you have little ones as some people are flying down the road. Ice cream came out quickly and tasted delicious!!
google avatar

Kelli M.

Yelp
Love this place, they offer some vegan dairy free options and of course they have tons of other options. I just went with the blueberry sorbet this time which was perfect for the hot day. My sons favorite is birthday cake
google avatar

Matt S.

Yelp
We've been here a few times and it's a decent stop when in Chincoteague. This time, I decided to have a milkshake, which was a huge mistake. The milkshake was good, but it took a long time to make. I'm fine with that, but they only bring you food by your complete order. They made my wife's ice cream cone and then we waited for over five minutes to finish making the milkshake. Due to science, her cone was starting to melt by the time it was even given to us. If I ever get a milkshake again or possibly next time we dine there regardless, we might just place orders separately. There was no one in line when we ordered anyways. Not sure what the holdup was, as families behind us with like seven orders were being completed before mine. I'm a fan of the look of their waffle cones. It looks very homemade, like everything else in the store. It's all homemade ice cream. We stop here before we leave, use the restrooms and then drive back to Ocean City, Maryland. When my co-worker, looking to move to the area, found out I was in Chincoteague for the day, he told me to come here. I said it's already in the plan. Always a nice end to our day trips.

Jason S.

Yelp
Anyone opening a new business should visit this place first to learn how it's done. I'm always amazed at how flawlessly this establishment does business. Tonight, there were about 75 people inside and another 50 on the deck enjoying their evening. No matter how busy it looks, they always serve everyone briskly and with a great attitude. Not only do they have incredibly good ice cream, they are experts at their craft. Thank you to everyone at Island Creamery for doing a superb jib!
google avatar

Lauren S.

Yelp
I was impressed by what a well-oiled machine this ice cream shop is! We walked in and were immediately at the counter to place our orders, then wrapped around the store to the front, where we paid and received our scoops (which were delicious)! My mom got the mint chip and I got the Snickers cheesecake, and I definitely recommend!
google avatar

Jamie P.

Yelp
We went here twice when we were in Chincoteague for vacation this trip. It gets super busy so be prepared to wait. The ice cream is delightful and the prices are great. It's one of the only ice cream places around, but it does not disappoint. My boyfriend and his family have been going there for 10+ years on their family vacations. We will be going back!
google avatar

Gary K.

Yelp
Looking for a great dessert for the family? Get a Round-Up sundae! Chose 5 scoops of ice cream and three toppings and prepare to enjoy a great deal - it costs about the same as two individual treats - that the whole family can enjoy.
google avatar

Tricia D.

Yelp
An island gem! We were super pumped to try this place after seeing the unique flavors on the website and reading all the Trip Advisor accolades. There are tons of flavors (like upwards of 35 at any time). On our first visit, I tried the pony tracks, which was like peanut butter and chocolate swirled in a vanilla base, I believe. It reminded me of moose tracks. I liked it, but didn't love it. Waffle cones here are made in-house and super crisp and fresh. However, they are a bit bland and need a bit more flavor. Perhaps a pinch of salt or little more sugar? Highlight by far is the Java jolt flavor! It's coffee ice cream with chewy, comforting brownie cubes and chocolate covered espresso beans! Mmm! Wish this was more accessible to me, now that I'm back at home base. A handful of tables are available inside, as well as colorful outdoor benches and seating.
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome and delicious. Think building shaped like the lighthouse is cool too. Friendly and fast service. Definitely a good place to stop when you visit the isla

Chris H.

Yelp
Quick service, wide selection. Came multiple times throughout the week. Highly recommend!

Pamela C.

Yelp
The selection of flavors and the ice cream were good. The chocolate flavor was just a little too sweet. The coffee ice cream and the waffle cone were both very good. The ambience was nice. No free places to sit, it was so crowded. The staff were helpful and quick. Not the most friendly but not rude , they just seemed to want to keep things moving and the person who took the orders was speaking so low it was hard to hear her. Will definitely go back to try some more interesting flavors.
google avatar

Yelp
If I could buy a freezer and take home every flavor, trust that I would. This charming and friendly place has Guinness ice cream, I'm assuming for St. Patrick's Day (along with Lucky Charm...anyone who does themes is A-OK in my eyes) that tastes just like the beer. Superior ice cream, in both standard and creative flavors with vegan options. One of the best ice cream parlors in the Commonwealth.
google avatar

C A.

Yelp
The great debate always occurs with my family each year- "are you a mister whippy or an island creamery person?" Island creamery has been the leader in the family for quite some time. Tons of unique flavors, Java jolt being one of the favorites (if you like coffee it's a must!) We recently have been getting ice cream cakes to help with birthday celebrations on the island! Best ice cream cake I've ever had! It can get pretty busy but they do a great job and keeping it moving. The my also have indoor and out door seating. It's a pretty accommodating location for walking around town after you grab your ice cream.

Nikki E.

Yelp
I love ice cream, and this place does NOT disappoint. Service was quick, first time being there you are greeted with a menu in the wall and staff willing to answer all of your questions about the unique flavors they offer (I asked a lot). Next you're directed to the register to check out, I was a little bit sticker shocked, 2 cones, double scoops ~$16. But, as I stated when I started this review- the ice cream did not disappoint! When our cones came out, they came out in a tray, ok- I'm used to having a cone handed to me, but I'm sure they've had enough tumbled cones this is a better way to go with the way they load it up. You have a spoon so you can flip it to the vertical cone eating position or break it down in the tray. The waffle cone is "fluffier" than your traditional cone, and yes again delicious! I am enthralled with banana flavored things and this ice cream was spot on, and not the banana syrup/candy variety. We were able to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful day while we are. Lots of seating options inside and out. Can't wait to get back!
