I had the oxtails, they were ok. I enjoyed my friend's jerk chicken, it was amazing. I also loved the sea moss with sour sop drink. I definitely will come back and try other dishes. Very fast service and professional.

Update 1/7: Back like I've never left. This time, I ended up getting the Combo Plate with Oxtails and Curry Goat. The plate came with Rice and Peas, Cabbage, and Plantains. Like I said in the last 2 reviews, every bite of the Oxtails and Curry Goat was like I'm in heaven, melted in my mouth good. The Rice and Peas and Plantains were really good but the cabbage was not only seasoned really good but it was extremely tasty, which it's not difficult to pull off if you know what you're doing. Shae's service is unmatched every time. The cooks always do a good job. Will return again and again. Update 12/13: Well, we meet again. You know what, it was so good the 1st time, I had to come back again. This time I got the Rasta Pasta with Curry Goat and a side of fries (for my son). The Curry Goat alone was tender and full of flavor. I also love the spice in that dish, which I forgot to mention in my last review. The food I had so far was "off the chain" good. Also, I just went in the Sam's Club parking lot and ate the whole thing and LEFT NO CRUMBS, it was that good. I ate a couple of the fries and it was, once again, not too crispy and seasoned to perfection. I'll give the fries to my son, he'll love it. The service is unmatched by Shae 100/10. She has such an awesome personality. She even recognized me from the last time I showed up, which rarely happens in my world. I'll be back again and again and again. Original Post: OMG!! This was everything I've imagined and more. I wanted to try something new in my area of town. I've passed by this place multiple times over the past couple of years. Tonight was the night that I try out this place. I ended up getting a couple of things, Oxtail Rasta Pasta and a side of Fries. The Oxtail Rasta Pasta was one of the best I've had in a long time. The Oxtail itself was melting in my mouth. I was thinking to myself, "they really know what they're doing." My son loved the side of fries. I tasted the fries and they were not too crispy and seasoned. The customer service from LaShae was amazing despite me coming in almost 30 minutes before closing. The cook in the back did an amazing job. For my first time eating there and having a great experience, I'll most certainly come back and try the curry goat.

I was nearby so I came in because I saw that they had vegetarian options (THANK YOU) and I ordered the Vegetarian House Stew. When I tell you this was one of the best vegetarian meals I’ve ever had in my life (& I’ve been a vegetarian since birth) I am not joking ! It was a 10/10 and I will definitely be making the drive just to come back and order this

Google
Pretty disappointed in the food I got from here. Everything I had besides the Mac n Cheese lacked flavor. The only request I asked for was extra jerk sauce and wasn’t given that. So basic customer service is lacking. Jerk Chicken 5/10- only flavor on the chicken was on the skin. Otherwise the actual chicken lacked any type of flavor and was kind of dry. Even the rice and peas had absolutely NO flavor and was for sure dry. Lastly, even the cabbage lacked seasoning. Mac n Cheese 9/10 - this was honestly the only thing I liked of my entire meal Plantains 4/10 - as you can see from the picture they were so dry Overall, I wish I could get my money back for this $50 meal. I unfortunately won’t be back.

Wasn’t sure what I wanted to eat for my birthday but all I knew was it had to be flavorful. Scrolling through Facebook and one of their post popped up. Got dressed and left the house and let me just tell you📢 best choice hands down. The minute I walked in my ear was greeted with island sounds. Then came a pleasant interaction with the staff. Sat for 15mins then my food was ready. I ordered the Rasta pasta with shrimp 💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽 it was a flavored; creamy plate of goodness. This might have been my 1st visit but it won’t be the last. God bless the chef

Google
Ive dined in before and it took a while for the food to come out. I recently doordashed here also and there was a slight delay on the food. Other than that the food was great. I usually get jerk chicken or rhasta pasta.

Alexa Johnson

Google
The jerk chicken is amazing and the cabbage is flavorful. The rice and peas is what you expect it’s just a side to the main component of the dish you get. Sadly every time I’ve been the atmosphere has been dead. It hasn’t been lively as this place should be when again I’ve been. The boy working in the front is always on point. The place is always clean when I go. I think out of some the Caribbean food I’ve tried, this is top 4. Only complaint I have is my coco bread was soft, fluffy one day then the next I went it was hard as a brick. Besides that no other issues with anything!

Yelp
I am blown away by island Flavorz! This is the best jerk chicken and the best jerk wings I've had in my life. I've eaten jerk chicken all over the USA and they are doing it right here. Absolutely the best in houston. Food: the jerk chicken is grilled to perfection. The char tastes so good. Also their jerk sauce has the right amount of heat. It's very subtle but hot in a good way. Every bite was fantastic. Also their Mac n cheese , rice and cabbage was simply to die for. The plantains were amazing too. The jerk wings here are special. Not only are they the best jerk wings, this was the best wings I've ever had. Top notch. So dam amazingly good! Every single bite was great. Also we wanted oxtails but they sold out. That shows how good they are. We will definitely be coming here for many more meals to come.

Yelp
Greeted by the bustling of traffic, this restaurant is surrounded by a lot of activity. Entering the building you feel a transformation into the Jamaican Culture. The food hits your nostrils and the music moves your hips. The restaurant owner took my food order. With three beef patties and a multitude of other desires, our food was ready in 20 minutes. Although the restaurant is a vibe we took our food to go. Now I'm ashamed because although we took our food to go I ate a Pattie on my thirty-minute drive home. And my Lawd... it was fresh, flakey and the meat was seasoned with a little spice. Arriving home I dug into my plate. Spicy and tasty. The best meal I've had in a while. It felt like I transformed to grandma's kitchen. I was fat, full and happy. 10/10 recommend.

Yelp
I ordered Island Flavorz based on a search for something close by while staying by the Houston Hobby Airport, and it did NOT disappoint. Although, i am a little annoyed that the picture when you order it shows salmon on top, mine did not come with salmon, so that's a little misleading, they should probably change that. The pasta was creamy, rich, with a bit of spice, so if you can't handle spice, i don't recommend, but if you CAN??? Oh, baby, make sure you get this! I recommend but make sure you order it with meat!

Melissa C.

Yelp
June 1, 2023 No frills. No charm. No soda fountain, only bottled drinks or water. No plates (just styrofoam) plastic ware. BUT, the food...the FOOD is fresh and flavorful. we got the curry goat (tender and tasty) mac and cheese (yum) and the coconut curry shrimp--delish! Prices are moderate

Vic J.

Yelp
Very nice place, with very tasty food and good atmosphere. Only downside was that they were a little slow.

Amburlee P.

Yelp
This is the closest Jamaican restaurant to me. Food is really good. The people that work there are pleasant and the restaurant and restrooms stay clean. The service is normally pretty quick as well.I normally get the oxtail plate here when I get that craving. Food is well seasoned and tasted authentic. I took away one star because they charge extra for every little thing. I was charged 50 cents extra for basically another squirt of jerk sauce in a small container. And the Jerk Chicken was a bit hard on some areas this time. Normally this happens from being over cooked and re-heated more than once. If I come back, I will just stick to the oxtails and meat patties since those items stay more consistent.

Dusty R.

Yelp
Good food. Nice and fresh even when delivered via Door Dash. My favorite are the beef patties. Nice crust

Sylvester L.

Yelp
Definitely worth trying if you crave authentic West Indian Fare. Located in a shopping plaza off of Fuqua and 45, it's a breeze to go in and take your food to go or dine in, if there is room... I suggest the curried goat anything & my favorite dish on the menu (besides the oxtail) is "The Rasta Pasta", which can include shrimp, chicken or oxtail" This place hits the spot every-time. The jerk-ANYTHING is great here as well... If your Vegan, there are options for you as well. Like their veggie patty. Try this spot out if your ever on the Southside of Houston...

Jazs M.

Yelp
Rasta pasta was immaculate! Ordered the jerk chicken , it was jerk chickeny but like it was brined in pepper all the way through. Pros: Home of the rum punch Good music Good food Beef Patties Bar Seating areas Cons: Jerk chicken was good but I've experienced better. Cashier told me there were no beef Patties Then sells beef Pattie's to everyone after I ordered. Food was fresh when I got home !

Crissy Y.

Yelp
I have not been to this restaurant yet, but my husband has brought home his scraps! . The ox tail plate was delicious!! I can't wait to go try the curry goat.

John S.

Yelp
The food was great, and the service was excellent. The hostess was friendly and provided some great food recommendations. I would recommend the curry salmon and rice and peas. The chicken patty was delicious. I also recommend the rum punch, which, if you've ever been to Jamaica when, make you feel like you're back in the island of Jamaica.

Jamie F.

Yelp
We love anything Caribbean and are glad we found this place while we were on the south side for the weekend ! The wings are fantastic - crispy, big and juicy! The rum punch will get you right for sure ! The redfish was a bit small but the atmosphere and friendly family that runs it makes up for it. Will definitely come back if we are in the area.

Dee W.

Yelp
Food was amazing as you can tell everything was cooked to the order. The guy that took my order seemed a bit cold but as I continued to converse with him he seemed to be a very pleasant guy. I waited on my food for about 15-20 while I sipped on a very good pricey $12 Rum Punch so I didn't mind the wait. They played very nice Caribbean music while I waited. The establishment is not in the best area but I've definitely been in worst. All in all I would definitely go back! I give it a 8 out of 10. I ordered 2 plates...1. Oxtails 2. Jerk Chicken Wings both with peas & rice & veggies.

Robert M.

Yelp
Food and service was excellent!!!!!! Food was Bangin!!!! Rum Punch is a must The music was great and the lighting was great

Zoe ..

Yelp
Best Caribbean food I had in a long time food review on ig:Playapossezoe but all around good food from the macaroni etc ma cousins wanted chick fila in like I found a better spot check out this place for sure

Joseph A.

Yelp
The food was absolutely delicious. We got the oxtail and stew chicken with rice, cabbage, & plantains. The cabbage didn't need any extra seasoning or any other additional flavor. Service is good & they play good music throughout the day.

Galaxyy G.

Yelp
10/10!!!! Real Authentic Caribbean spot. The jerk chicken is pressure.I've been to Montego Bay, Jamaica and have had the real local island food(off-resort/ on-resort). This place is just like the islands, no bs. Bring your significant other here on Saturday and Sunday's for the event they host. When I walked I was greeted by a lovely lady, they had Caribbean music playing and the vibes where there. Loved the environment, def bringing my girl here next time.

C W.

Yelp
GROSS DRY FOOD! Called ahead 45 minutes only to arrive and find order wasn't ready when told 15 minutes. Waited for another 30 minutes while staff member talked to grind at the store and on phone . Very unprofessional. Food was lame as hell ! Eat at your own risk . I WILL NOT BE BACK ! Facts !

Mariah T.

Yelp
I love Island Flavorz. I've come several times and the food has always been delicious and fresh. Coming in I'm quick to check the display cause I know I have to order two Beef Patties. It's always a great day when I see them stacked in there with that golden light shining down. They have Mauby, Sorrel, Jamaican sodas and mixed cocktails. You do have to pay for water bottles but it's not that much of a biggie. I usually go for the Curry Goat but sometimes it has more bone than I'd like so this I've recently switched to the Jerk Chicken. Flavor is good, and I love the extra char flavor. My only wish would've been they slather that sauce on my meat instead of having to dip it on the side. Still delicious though. And lemme point out that I order a medium plate and it comes with 2 thighs and 2 legs. It's a pretty big portion. Rice and peas good, Fried Plantain is to die for mmm so good, and the cabbage has a lot of flavor. Can't forget to request peppa sauce to hook up the rice and chicken. My man loves oxtails, he knows how to clean that bone real good. This is one dish I know they run out fast so get there early if you looking for oxtails. I have yet to really try the roti so I'll update when I do. My mom loves it though, she loves to come by on her lunch break and pick her up a roti. On days when it's packed, be patient. The lady who works the register is also the server and works her butt off. She goes nonstop from packaging to go orders, placing pickups as they walk in, taking dine in orders, clearing tables and cashing out. I promise you'll be happy you waited.

SJ K.

Yelp
Love Island Flavorz! This is my go to spot in the area for Jamaican jerked chicken, curry chicken, & oxtail! Very flavorful and friendly staff, always with good music playing too. -signed a New Yorker

Bd B.

Yelp
arrived at 651 pm and was told by cashier that they were out of oxtails. I then ordered the oxtails on DoorDash and watched her confirmed the order. i went home with stewed chicken which also lacked flavor and the unavailable oxtails arrived at my doorstep moments later. both meals were not good, please find another West Indian food plCe to spend your money at.

Chencia H.

Yelp
This is my second time trying this restaurant and I'm a customer for life. The menu is short but packed with flavor. The portions are HUGE and more than enough for me to eat on for two meals or two days! My entire family eats GOODT from here. It's a little pricey, but once you start eating you realize that it's worth every penny. They are making magic in that kitchen and I'm blessed to be able to experience it. Both visits I got the salmon and shrimp combo, jerk flavor. You have the option of which flavors/seasonings you want on your fish and I chose jerk because I don't appreciate the lining of my mouth. When they say jerk, they mean JERK! The flavors are identical to those I tasted when I visited Jamaica in 2018 so, while this doesn't make me an authority by any stretch of the word, I am confident they are correct in using the word "authentic". Do yourself a favor and stop in to this Black-owned business and get some food that might make you bite your fingers. Be forewarned: the wait for your food might be long but I PROMISE YOU that it's worth the wait!

Charlene P.

Yelp
Love this place! I'm a very white girl who feels at home here. Great flavors, fresh ingredients, nice prices, yummy rum punch, and lively music. Nothing else I need on a Friday night.

Mary B.

Yelp
Good considering it's hard to find this type of food near the Hobby airport. Oxtails were spicy and flavor was different than normal but good. Not much meat on the oxtails though. Jerk wings were spicy with tons of sauce. Rice and peas were dry bit ok. Plantains were flavorless. Meat pie was just ok. Service was great and fast and nice people. Parking is easy. Location is off beaten path but close to Hobby airport.

Stephen M.

Yelp
If I could rate this place 10 stars I would. Consistently some of the best oxtails you can get in Houston. Jerk chicken is great, too! 10/10 reccomend their food.

Vanessa A.

Yelp
Jerk chicken and curry goat plates were delicious. I was thrilled to see soursop, sorrel and other items on the menu. We ate in this visit which was nice for our first time but now that we know everything is delicious we will order and pick up when in the area. I plan to pick up some Patties too! If you like your meal freshly made and piping hot you should give this place a try

Keiana A.

Yelp
Food is good. Not good enough for all the bs you gotta go through though. I've tried to call and place to go orders maybe three times this week. They say they're open at 10am, I call at 11am and they say they're not open until 12 PM despite the times being posted on Google. When I finally get through you cannot separate items, so I settle for something else, just to be told they don't even have the alternative! Y'all just opened an hour ago, why do you already not have the inventory? I used to love this place, would wait for it to open to get breakfast but it hasn't been the same in years.

Ashley A.

Yelp
Loved the food and service. I'll definitely be returning for their Sunday brunch one day.

Derrick S.

Yelp
Very good food and service. Always fresh and great atmosphere. Takes you to the islands when tasting their food.

Andrew C.

Yelp
The meat pies were good with a flakey bread. The game changer, however, was the side of jerk chicken. The place is clean and the service friendly, but the jerk chicken Carrie's the five stars. Fair warning: it's spicy, but how else would jerk chicken be?

K G.

Yelp
Food was flavorful and hot. I will be returning soon. Service was good and pleasant.

Nicole C.

Yelp
The owner was incredibly kind. I ordered to-go, and food was still great 10 minutes later at home. The beef patties are *chefs kiss*.

Julie W.

Yelp
Good food. Expected more flavor but it was nice Jamaican food. Great portion for the price. Way cheaper than soul food for sure. Loved the chicken.

Darrean S.

Yelp
The food was absolutely delicious the cashier was extremely nice and I feel like I got what I paid for will be coming back every chance I get

Lando'sLady S.

Yelp
I typed in Caribbean restaurants near me and island Flavorz piped up! I was lied to Yelp and I read the reviews looked at the menu and was pleased with what the reviews had to offer. I'm new to the area and I must say the reviews do not lie! I ordered the Large Rasta Pasta with fried Snapper and shrimp with a side of plaintains I must say my pallet was not disappointed. I had so much food I brought it home and my son ate the rest he's a picky eater and said momma I need this it was so good!! We will definitely be back!! Also I love that they have events on some Fridays and brunch on Sundays!!

Austin W.

Yelp
Great food. Great service. So used to Caribbean restaurants with attitudes. This was a nice change. Eli was awesome.

Rachel D.

Yelp
So I recently moved to this area for the longest I had been craving Caribbean food. I usually go to Cool Runnings but I didn't feel like making that drive to the southwest side of Houston. So I decided to give this place a try. I am overly glad that I did! I got the oxtail plate with coco bread. Everything was DELICIOUS. LIKE SERIOUSLY AMAZING. THE OXTAIL WAS SO TENDER. I will definitely be going back soon!

TC A.

Yelp
Good food and great service. I had a combo plate of oxtails and jerk chicken with rice and cabbage. I have no complaints about the food as I have had better and I have had worse. My wife had the brown stewed chicken and she was happy with her selection. The service was top notch and I was told multiple times I could have my food however I wanted it. The staff was super friendly and accommodating.

JP R.

Yelp
Growing up in New York its hard for me to find some authentic Caribbean spots down south. After trying 2-3 others. This is the closest it can get! Love the jerk sauce they make, cabbage, and ox tails! Go with the Ox tail combo! It has a bit of everything and is well worth it! Friendly staff and great customer service!

Eric M.

Yelp
It was ok I liked the goat, but not the oxtails I prefer southern style oxtails I'll try the redfish next time

Tiki B.

Yelp
Don't sleep on Island Flavorz, everything I have had from there was excellent. The establishment is extremely clean, no matter when I have gone there, that is a plus for me. The food is always fresh with flavor. I ordered the Pasta Rasta with oxtails, omg so much flavor, the plantains are cooked perfectly they are not soggy, the curry goat was excellent as well and the veggies are so fresh and delicious. Sorry I didn't take pics, after my first bite I couldn't stop. Will post pics next time. Oh, one more thing, they are consistent with their food, meaning the quality and flavor/seasoning is the same and I can appreciate that if you all know what I mean.

Monica O.

Yelp
I just stopped by this restaurant to take my daughter to the restroom. We tried 2 different stores before this one and there were no restrooms available. The lady at the front desk was dealing with a customer so I proceeded to walk towards the restroom. She stopped me and rudely spoke to me about being disrespectful for not saying hi. She argued with me in front of my 10 year old daughter and another little girl that was with the paying customer. I kindly asked her several times "can I please take my daughter to the restroom she needs to pee" and she responded with "and what if I say no?" When I told my daughter let's go, she went ahead and said I could use it but I refused. I have never experienced such an ugly and rude experience at a restaurant like that. Regardless if we went in as paying customers or not her behavior and treatment was unacceptable especially in front of children.

Clay G.

Yelp
Island Flavorz is amazing. It doesn't matter where you're from or where you've been. You'll feel like family when you're here! Such flavorful dishes. Best oxtail I've ever had. The best rum punch as well... And it's strong lol. But even more importantly than the food is the way that we were treated with such love. We will definitely be back again and again!

Summer W.

Yelp
Oxtails and chicken the rum punch is so good. Service was good family atmosphere. Will be back soon.

Latonia J.

Yelp
Good customer service.. food served which... the veggie pattie was so good. The jerk chicken was tasty and flavorful. I was very impressed

Tiffany D.

Yelp
What a hospitable place! They are so nice and welcoming. They offer a menu card to call ahead and have your food ready to dine in. Of course, take out and delivery are options as well. The food is amazing and comes in very good portion sizes. A large is two meals! My husband got oxtails, son got jerk chicken, and I got the coconut curry shrimp. They were all very tasty. We will definitely be back. And if you like live music, they have that on Fridays with some rum punch!!

Ecron T.

Yelp
Being a Jamaican living in Austin, it was true treat to have some authentic Jamaican food. Sour juice was on point. As a family of 4, we enjoyed a range from jerk wings, to curry goat, red snapper, ox tails. Loved it!

Courtney R.

Yelp
This was my first time ordering .. which i did thru Uber eats and I must say I'm obsessed with Rasta pasta now .. I got the shrimp Rasta pasta with a side of cabbage ... and it was amazing and i also got the Jamaican soda with it !! And i am so happy full !!! Definitely try this out ... it's amazing. !! Best money spent on food in a while

Tala A.

Yelp
Enjoyed the chicken roti, but could've been better. Its chickpeas were a bit undercooked, and I prefer boneless chicken roti. Hubby loved the oxtail and goat curry, and the rice and peas were delicious! Also the peanut punch was so yummy--like a sweet pb milkshake! Loved the plantains too!

Jazmine H.

Yelp
Wanted Jamaican food so we came here. Good experience and good food! We had the beef patties, for entrees had the jerk wings and curry chicken. Portions are good and sides of rice and cabbage were yummy. Everything was seasoned well, -not too salty either which is a plus. My husband loved the Jamaican soda! We will be back to visit!
