Yelp
A National Strawberry Day Celebration Inspired Review
"Let me take you down, because I'm going to Strawberry Fields where nothing is real and nothing to get hung about." Actually "Strawberry Fields is real and something I am hung about. "Strawberry Fields Forever" is my favorite all time Beatle's song. The late John Lennon created a musical soundscape painting a vivid imagery of my favorite fruit and flavor: the strawberry. Yesterday on National Strawberry Day, I was determined to celebrate my favorite fruit and flavor with a delicious strawberry dessert.
I had just hiked a few hours up on the foothills of the Amargosa Trail. I would be replacing the calories that I had burnt with a special strawberry dessert. The Amargosa Trailhead near the Horizon Ridge Parkway Von's parking lot put me in short distance of Cold Stone Creamery and Island Frozen Yogurt Bar. The reviews for Cold Stone were "blah," where the ones for Island Frozen Yogurt Bar were exciting. Yelp reviews with National Strawberry Day led me a short drive from the hiking trail to the food trail.
When I pulled into the Island Frozen Yogurt Bar parking lot it was nighttime. This is a picturesque spot in a higher elevation of Henderson where you have a view of the valley below. At nighttime with the millions of lights below, you feel like you are walking in a yogurt shop in Hollywood.
The taste of the frozen yogurt briefly made me feel like a Hollywood star. I ordered a cup of very berry strawberry frozen yogurt topped off with the fruit I was celebrating: strawberries, raspberry sauce, mini M&Ms, and mini Reeses. The soft yogurt brought my taste buds to higher peaks than the Amargosa Trail that I just hiked on. Strawberries, M&Ms, and Reeses make a winning combination. Partaking in this National Strawberry Day celebration costed me around $4.75. In similar fashion to Yogurt Land, Island Frozen Yogurt Bar charges by weight. If you only fill the soft yogurt in the paper cup, it will be less than a cup containing nuts, strawberries, animal crackers, graham crackers, maraschino cherries, and other sweets. Regardless of the weight, there are complimentary cones at the front of the yogurt bar.
The self serve yogurt bar is smaller than Yogurt Land. I counted approximately 15 flavors. But just like I say when I go to Friendly Doughnuts: "quality over quantity." Additionally, I read that Island Frozen Yogurt Bar offers Dole Whip.
It's more than frozen yogurt that is cool here. It is cool that in the back there is a small arcade. If there is a National Arcade Day, this could be a destination to celebrate over a couple of games of Miss Pacific Man. This is a small arcade holding a Midway Miss Pacific Man/Galaga machine, three pinball machines, table hockey, and one or two more games.
What is the antithesis of cold here was the young lady that welcomed me to Island Frozen Yogurt. She had a welcoming and not warm manner.
A post-hiking National Strawberry Day celebration was a rewarding experience. I experienced another outstanding yogurt shop near my home and hiking trails. The very berry strawberry yogurt really hit the spot.
Strawberry Fields Forever!
