Island Hoppin' Brewery - Review - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Playing cornhole at Island Hoppin’'s outdoor space is a great way to spend an afternoon. Their beer is very good—like the “Feel The Bern” chili-infused blonde, or their hoppy Elwha Rock IPA. The best combination in the house, though, is a frosty glass of raspberry wheat alongside a package of Lummi Island smoked salmon. Just be sure you have a designated driver—there aren’t any rideshares available on Orcas Island, and this brewery is pretty far off the main Eastsound strip. You could walk, but we can personally attest to the fact that it's not a fun stroll. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

Google
Fun place with good beer food and service. Pretty limited amount of indoor seating, most of the seating seems to be outdoors. Well worth a visit.

Google
A great local brewery with some very good brews. Nice little menu to grab a bite or bring a lunch and enjoy inside or out. Friendly staff, welcoming environment and a great place for a brew and a break.

Google
Great little brewery! Very cozy spot, excellent beers, very small menu of snacks but delicious (we had the smoked salmon but they also had an excellent cheese selection). Service was great, super fun little spot and very dog friendly!

Google
Great local brewery on Orcas Island. Bartender was super friendly and the place was a mix of locals and visitors. Beer were varied and well crafted.

Google
Excellent afternoon stop. I had the IPA and ISA and I liked them both. We also had the cheese plate as a snack which was great. Local cheeses, very good, adults and kids devoured. They also have a selection of non-alcoholic including kombuchas. Cute outdoor beer garden.

Google
This place really surprised me. I wrote in another brewery review that one can't expect much from a small, isolated brewery like this. Demand would allow mediocrity to be acceptable. But the brews were top notch! We ended up making three(?) trips here while on the island, and I tried nearly every offering. It's hard to explain, but the beers had that fresh, homebrew taste to them. Not only would I go back again, I will miss this place now that I've returned home.

Google
We tried the flight and enjoyed the beers. Had the crackers and cheese as well as the smoked salmon...yummo. We had a great time and even got their new hoodie and a beer glass. Fun spot.

Google
Very tasty beer made here. I had their chili Blonde. A very refreshing Blonde ale with a kick of chili. Loved it.

Yelp
Absolutely adorable brewery. Adorable isn't a word I use often to describe a brewery bit this place just that. Plenty of parking and signs leading you to an adorable brewery playing awesome reggae music. Two outdoor seating areas. Yummy brews. I had a blackberry ale, I think. They do flights. Either 4 choice or ALL of them. I laughed, really? I had one and it was enough. If I had a ride I would love to hang out and drink more. Super comfortable place with board games too. Doggy friendly patio out front. Signage explaining rules for the kiddos if you bring them. For a person who goes to brewery sans children, I appreciate that. They don't serve food here but I think you can bring food. Drink good beer and enjoy your life. SYOY!

Yelp
Great hoppy IPA and super friendly service!! They provided samples and great descriptions and it was golfing to hang out.

Yelp
Only beer and wine available, the beer is brewed locally there, and the wine seem to be a lot from the island itself, the Orcas island winery. I had two glasses of Chardonnay, which was absolutely delicious after three days of camping and kayaking. People working there are super friendly! They don't seem to have really any food, other than like pretzels, and nuts. Super chill place to hang out with friends if you just want to have a few pints or a couple glasses of wine. There's indoor and outdoor seating.

Yelp
Every trip to the island since 2015, we always try to find a way to visit the brewery. It's small and quaint and is always a great time. We we're heading to a whale watching cruise and decided to stop with the entire family this time. How things have altered is that they have more options on eats. Before it was free peanuts but now they have some food options. We got the cheese tray, pickle flight of all the beers and got a glass of beer and cider. I tried all of the beers and they were so good. My favorites were feel the bern ( Bernie sanders) chili pepper taste and light burn, dunkleweizer (Midnight Wheat) & Old Madrona ( Imperial Red) this one was my favorite. Just hit the spot. I had it previously but I don't remember that batch being as tasty as this one. The service was amazing. This place got busy quickly. It's always one of my favorite stops on Orcas and never gets old. It's easy to pass upon your way here. I highly recommend it.

Yelp
Loved their skunky Fresh Hops brew and immediately felt at home with mandolin and guitar on the wall looking ready to play! Friendly service. Kady a pleasure to meet!

Yelp
If you like bloodily marries (and even if you don't like me) get the Mechelada chili blind. I am not usually a huge fan of bloodily marries to say it lightly but this is way better. It is lighter and less intense but both in a good way. There is a nice smooth tomato chili flavor that is not too much and a rim of chili salt that adds a perfect contrast. There is plenty of outdoor area but it does fill up fast so try to get there before it gets to busy. The staff is really friendly and they even have compost options. The cheeses we had were hit or miss. The herb cheese was great but 2/3 of the cheese plate cheeses were pretty bland. The other drinks were good but nothing to rant about like I just did with the Mechelada. Defiantly a good place to go if you are on orcha island.

Yelp
Cool people, great vibes! Lots of options, currently had a lager that was infused with 7 different island peppers - brewer is excited about the craft and sharing with others - build a stop into your next trip!

Yelp
Small cute little brewery that allows dogs. Very limited seating but happy to have found this place.

Yelp
Really cool little brewery with a nice selection of beer and snacks! Its also in a nice tucked away spot - K Pod Kolsch is so good!

Yelp
Well first of all, they have a brewery on Orcas Island!!!! BOOM, enough said!!! Second of all the beer is good. Not the best beer I've ever had, but good! The outdoor patio is great, socially distanced and the STAFF IS AMAZING!!! Friendly, helpful and awesome! We are staying here for 10 days and we will be back! Beer breakdown: The beer is solid, I really enjoyed the Kolsch, raspberry wheat and the chili pale ale. People were raving about the red, I personally dont like reds, but if you do... give it a go. Overall...come here!!!! It's a brewery on an island for heavens sake!!!!!!! ENOUGH SAID!!!
google avatar

Yelp
The best brewery in the world! Ok, well at the very least the BEST brewery in the Islands! Very chill vibe, great music, and a super kind and friendly staff that makes this place all the more awesome. Ordered a Cheese Plate, with Smoked Salmon, and Snacks. Between the great beers, cider, wine and the epic service from April, IHB as I'm going to call it definitely has a great thing going.

Yelp
Fourth Stop: "A Perfect Day on Orcas island" Collection https://www.yelp.com/collection/Bgd9G40BjYMmHuJoM5MpHw After some hiking and pottery shopping, grab a microbrew on your way back to Eastsound. Their beer is good and it is outdoor Covid safe. I liked their cheese platter too. Check it out

Yelp
Awesome little brewery tucked away on orcas island, perfect on a nice sunny day. The bartender was super helpful, friendly and communicative. The beer was delicious (quality over quantity). Some food offered onsite, with outside food welcomed. Dog and kid friendly with games and toys to keep the kiddos (even adults) busy for a time.

Michelle M.

Yelp
Visited this brewery a couple of times while we were on the island. Got to try all the beers in a flight. The Chile Ale is quite unique and was great in a michelada. No food options, just beer. Dog friendly patio.

Yelp
So our Airbnb has a small growler sitting on the info table. I take a look at it and figure it was an decoration. I get on my trusty Yelp app pretty sure I would not find a brewery on Orcas Island, but was quickly proven wrong. I'm so glad the growler went into the car for the run into Eastsound. It's a cool little place with a couple of nice outdoor patios. No views as in a small commercial park by the airport but definitely worth the stop. I tried a couple of samples, helped by the nice barkeep. I liked the grapefruit IPA but settled on the Kolsch for the growler for some light, refreshing patio sipping. $7.50 can't be beat for the refill as only a little more than the cost of a pint. Glad the growler got to return to its roots!

Yelp
Great brewery on the island with tons of choices. We didn't end up getting any food, but it all looked great coming out. Looked like typical brewery food. I'm not a beer fan, so I had the rotating cider (blueberry on tap) and my boyfriend had some sort of IPA. It's a great stop for a beer or casual meal!
google avatar

Mikaela M.

Yelp
My husband and I stopped in right before closing time. Luckily, you can still finish your beer up on their outside patio even once they're no longer taking orders. My husband got an IPA (his fav), which he enjoyed. I got excited that they had a sour on the menu and completely overlooked that it was barrel aged (not their fault!). So, it wasn't quite what I expected, and I definitely should have ordered something else. Oh well! We still enjoyed getting to sit outdoors and read. They have some snacks you can order. I just got a bag of salt and pepper chips to hold me over until our late dinner reservation. The employee working was very nice and walked around to each table to see if anyone wanted to order one last thing before closing.

Yelp
We were excited to try the only brewery in Orcas Island and we were glad we did! I am personally not an avid beer drinker but they had a really good Apricot Cider. The bartender told us that cider that has been previously "dry-hopped" will have a leas sweet taste which I really enjoyed. My fiancé had the flight and his favorite was the Amber. We sat in the back room with the heater and played some games while sipping on some good beers! The bartender even switched up beers for my fiancé that he didn't like! Great customer service.

Yelp
Love this cute little brewery in Eastsound! Discovered it years ago and so glad to see it thriving. They didn't have food offerings the last time I was here so it was nice to try the local chèvre and crackers option with my tasty beverage. They didn't have live music on the night we were visiting, but I recall last time we were there they did - and we brought vanilla bean ice cream from the store for all to enjoy with the stout they had on tap. That was a real treat. Looking forward to future visits to Orcas.

Yelp
This will be a short review since I just stopped by for their Amber beer I heard so much about but I'm so glad I did. Their amber is phenomenal and their customer service is just as great. The foam was even creamy like the nitro beers I enjoy. The bar tender said it was due to the pressure from the freshly tapped 300 gallon keg. It's a friendly place and the young gentleman behind the bar couldn't have been nicer. I was very happy to see an outdoor seating area that's dog friendly for my little angel. She enjoyed visiting with another canine guest while there. When I go back to Orcas next time, this will be my first stop, period.

Yelp
Great people at a great place for snacks and spirits. It's a bit out of town so super easy to avoid traffic.

Yelp
I have had beer from Island Hoppin' twice now. I had one of their beers about a year or so ago when I was visiting San Juan Island at a place in Friday Harbor. Doing some research I found that several places were supposed to carry their beer in Friday Harbor and I checked with almost all of them and they didn't have it on tap. I think the last place that was on the list I tried did have it and the beer was great! Then this past summer I made a return trip to the San Juan Islands, this time the island was Orcas Island where Island Hoppin' has a taproom. The brewery is in the outskirts of the village of Eastsound. Steve got the K-Pod Kolsch here which was fantastic! I got the Simcoe Slice Grapefruit IPA which was delicious! Some grapefruit IPA's can be a bit too bitter but the balance to this beer was just perfect! The staff here is very friendly and eager to please. The atmosphere is very laid back which reflects the rest of Orcas Island quite nicely! Island Hoppin' is definitely a "must" stop while touring about on the island!

Yelp
Wherever I go I want to go to the local brewery and bakery. This fulfilled the first obligation. This place def had some character, multiple rooms inside and an outdoor area for seating, as well as an air hockey table. I have never been to a bar with an air hockey table outside. We went at 4pm on a Friday and there were a lot of people there. No Happy Hour, but at $5 a beer, not a bad price. The bartender was friendly and attentive. I had two of the IPA on draft, which I would order again. This is a very dog friendly bar, there were dogs all over the place. I am planning on going back to the Brewery later today.

Yelp
I came to this location about a two weeks ago being the only brewery in town. I definitely enjoyed it. It is a smaller size and I was there during off season. It was quiet but as you talked to the few others there you start to make some friends. The bartender was great as he would include you in the night and answer any questions you came up with. The place is what you make it. No real selection of food here
google avatar

Jordan T.

Yelp
A great and varied selection of craft beer, including a guest rotation. There's friendly, and knowledgeable staff. There is also a few bar snacks on the limited food menu, but outside food is okayed.
google avatar

April H.

Yelp
The beer is AMAZING. Also have a rotating cider and a few island wines which is cool. Staff is super rad. Great outdoor area; family and dog friendly. Would definitely recommend to a friend!
google avatar

Yelp
Great little location. Lots of locals, comfortable atmosphere, beer was good. Brought our own lunch and relaxed a bit.
google avatar

Michelle M.

Yelp
Busy. Loud. Yummy. Weird parking. Or no parking. Lol. Park up above and walk down either a gravel drive way or stairs. The beer is really good. It seems like locals and tourists come here. Folks inside playing cards and board games. It's cozy and warm inside [we are here in November] lots of people doing flights and tasting multiples. This place must be super fun in summer. AND THEY ALLOW LEASHED DOGS ON THE PATIO.

Yelp
This is a must stop at on orcas if u love some great tasting beers! I look forward to grabbing myself a medrona red every single time im on the island visiting with the family...they have a great area seating outside thats covered so even if it rained you'd be dry. If you love ping pong thats outside as well covered..its kid friendly and dog friendly all fenced it so u can enjoy your time spent here...the staff is always great and helping choose the beer for you is fun for them to recommend..
google avatar

Yelp
Giving this brewery 5 stars for being one of the only breweries on orcas and providing a relaxing and welcoming environment to tourists like myself. My boyfriend ordered the fresh hop beer (delicious!) and I ordered a flight thinking I would get to choose 4 or so samplers. The flight ended up being a taster of every beer on the menu and the rotating cider! So a bit more than I expected but still fun to go through and taste them all.
google avatar

Yelp
The only brewery on Orcas island !! This place was great. They served high quality craft beer and an amazing outdoor settings to enjoy your drink and surroundings. The coolest thing is they offer stickers, and service is top notch. Really enjoyed my two drinks there and had some good chats. I recommend this for anyone who enjoys a good beer in the middle of the day.
google avatar

Yelp
While not a beer drinker the husband is. He enjoyed everything he tried, so much so he got a growler while we were on vacation and made it our last stop on the island before heading to the ferry to get a refill for back home. My old school glass bottle coke was great. The bartender with the super deep voice was hilarious and most hospitable and made us feel very much welcome. We had a great time having good conversation with locals and vacationers alike. Again, I'm surprised that a few of the places we went to that were clearly local spots get poor reviews by vacationers. I don't get the impression that it's the locals with a problem, perhaps it's the visitors that think they're big league VIP because they can afford to take a vacation. I dunno. I guess if a couple of poor, slightly unwashed punk rock kids got along just fine everywhere they went, you can to if you check your ego.

Yelp
My husband and I loved this brewery. We are from upstate NY and had a totally different taste experience! The "feel the bern" was our favorite! Tim was a knowledgable host and fun to share stories with. We stopped in twice while on the island and bought a growler! Would recommend for beer lovers!

A L.

Yelp
First- Brewery is awesome, great service and beers. BUT the separate food truck serving food is 2 stars for way overpriced and skimpy dishes. The flavor was actually good but for $14-16 per dish, we were all very disappointed, unfortunately and are en route to another restaurant. Would not recommend getting food from there unless they make some changes. Again, great brewery!

rossnyev a.

Yelp
Great brewery, out of the way in Orcas, but popular enough with the locals that many have their own mug on the wall! Enjoyed the seasonal taps with some excellent smoked salmon while seating in a cmfy patio.
google avatar

Teresa V.

Yelp
Great beer, and great stop on our vacation! Met a handful of locals and enjoyed our time talking and learning about the area. By far one of my favorite stops from out trip! If your nearby it is worth the stop!
google avatar

Yelp
Island Hoppin' Brewery is a great little brewery on Orcas Island. I got a flight and tried all of the beers - I liked all of them, especially the chili beer and the madrona red ale. It was nice to hang out with some locals and see a different side of the Island. The atmosphere is really nice, with an indoor bar, an outdoor patio, and a game room with plenty of bar games to keep you occupied for an afternoon. While there aren't many options for breweries in the San Juan Islands, this really is a great place and is worth visiting if you enjoy trying new beer and have some time to check it out! It's located near the airport right by Eastsound, so it's easy to go before/after visiting some other shops or restaurants.
google avatar

Joey D.

Yelp
OK this place is great. Always comfortable...the guys that run it are cool as hell...and the beer is as tasty as it gets. You can bring your pooches too. Just thinking about it now makes me want to hop on a Kenmore Air and go back to the north side of Orcas, stroll in and have another one of their Raspberry flavored beers that is on Nitrous. It was good...and I'm a man that agreed with Dennis Leary when he said "I Like BEER flavored Beer....OK?" The raspberry was subtle and the beer was nice. Drop in, grab a handful of peanuts and chill out....you're on Island time!
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon around 2-3pm. Average to busy considering there is limited seating indoors. Ordered a tasting flight at the bar and the bartender rolled his eyes AND his head in disgust and then told us how many tasters he has to fill on a Saturday. I'm sorry, am I inconveniencing YOU at YOUR JOB?! Plus they were out of the one beer I really wanted to try, a coffee porter I think it was. Plus out of the smoked salmon AND out of their claimed pub cheese. Only like 1-2 beers out of the 6 tried. Would not return.
google avatar

MarkAndMiranda C.

Yelp
The IPA is really great. I tasted a few others and they were also high quality. Had a great time in the back room with our friends and all four of the kids. A great way to start our weekend on the island.
google avatar

M L.

Yelp
This place is awesome! We visited every day during our 6 day stay on Orcas. Chilly, delicious beers and friendly staff. Foosball and ping pong tables too. Local chèvre and crackers are the best bar snack. We will be back!
google avatar

Cassidy C.

Yelp
I just loved this place! Staff was outstanding! So helpful and friendly to us travelers! This is a kind of place that makes you feel at home and welcomed! Fun games, great people, good drinks.

Kelsey K.

Yelp
Excellent beers and service! Would highly recommend going here if you enjoy beers. My partner and I both had flights and enjoyed all of the beers!
google avatar

Lillian R.

Yelp
This place is a real delight. Stop in for a tasting flight of the most fresh, delicious beer in the San Juans, possibly the northwest. Enjoy good tunes and the company of the most wonderful, attractive bartender, Tim. Play some games, enjoy the patio, make some new friends. Unless you hate a good time. Then don't come here.
google avatar

JT B.

Yelp
Stopped by this little hidden gem on Friday. We were excited to try some yummy beers. Some them were real hoppy which we enjoy. Im glad to see the care that goes into the craft. Can't wait to visit again next year!
google avatar

Carlos A.

Yelp
Beer and lots of places to sit about with your friends. What else do you need? Oh, you don't drink beer, no problem they have cider on tap too.
google avatar

Kelly O.

Yelp
Great beer options and the chèvre cheese was so yummy! They have a couple of fun games like corn hole and ping pong, so bring the family!

David B.

Yelp
I love this place! I'm typically here every day I'm on Orcas. You just can't go wrong.
google avatar

Glen L.

Yelp
Wonderful Island casual brewery with light snacks to accompany their tasty local brews. Tasted their Kölsch, grapefruit IPA and oatmeal stout on nitro. All were good with the IPA a standout. The cheeses and dried sausages were a welcome nibble alongside our beers. Ended up taking home two mini growlers and will go back the next time I'm on Orcas.
