Did City Racial Discrimination Cause the Shutdown of a Chicagoland Restaurant? - Eater Chicago

"The city of Blue Island shut down Island Bar & Grill in March after a shooting outside the restaurant in March. But its owner — and “a dozen” protestors — believe that the real reason the city shut it down is because of its majority African American clientele in the mostly white and hispanic suburb, CBS2 reports. The restaurant, which opened in 2012 and doubles a nightlife spot with live music and slot machines, remains open while ownership appeals the ruling ahead of a hearing scheduled for later in June." - Daniel Gerzina

I'm not sure if they treat all the customers like this or not but if change is not made soon, this establishment will not go far. Too many issues to name. I'll simply let the receipt speak for itself. (This was the icing on the cake). If it were not for it being a good friend of mine birthday, I would have left with the quickness.

This an old fashion hidden treasure located in the old downtown of Blue Island. They have a very friendly staff but at times get too preoccupied and tends to have slow service. Unless you catch the drink specials, the drinks are pretty pricey. It's an older establishment but the decor inside are modern enough. Try going on Wednesday when they have $5 long Island, $1 Tacos, and 0.50¢ wings. They have hands down the very best Jerk Chicken Tacos in Chicago land. Definitely a must try!! But get there before 7pm because it's gets crowded fast.

HORRIBLE SERVICE! Never got a chance to try the food because no one waited on us. We sat down cleared our own table. After about 5 minutes someone brought us a menu. We ended up going to the bar to order our own drinks. That took 10 minutes. We sat down and waited. Finished our drinks and left. We were there almost 45 minutes and had no contact with the staff other than the overworked bartender and the lady who dropped the menus on our table. I WOULD NEVER GO TO THIS PLACE AGAIN!! Wish I could give zero stars!

After my visit here, I will not be returning. The service here needs improvement. I ordered three drinks at the bar, and it took 30 minutes. And this was on a Friday evening. Although there was one person behind the bar, a heads up would have been nice. Later it appears that more help arrived. So I decided to order a second round of drinks. And this time it took 30 minutes!! I would've left this place but I was out celebrating the promotions of a few co-workers. I'm far from complaining, but the service here was ridiculous.

I would like to express how displeased i was with the establishment. i came from out of town on a recommendation. i stood for an hour every table was reserved and i stood by the bar to order food and a drink, there was one bartender who asked my sister and i if we wanted sobering after standing there for20 minutes. she was very nice. the last at the door was attempting to be accommodating. the rest of the staff was rude, dismissive, And really unprofessional. it was 9pm i could understand if it was later. i paid 20 dollars for my sister and i to get in for nothing couldn't eat couldn't drink. please from a visitor prospective remedy this issue. it has the potential to be a great business but the managementis horrible and the staff should be more professional.

It was nice, I just dislike that it's 28+ after 9. I'm 25 and I hate going to lounges that have younger crowds so that was very disappointing. I also didn't like that the security guard stated to me and my best friend " ladies be on your best behavior" as if we were going in to start a bar fight! Other than that the music was good. Drinks were not worth the price though.

The waitress was terrible. She would rather party then you tend to us. We ordered food at 10:30 and didn't get it until 12:00. The wings didn't come out until 1:00 after we kept asking for them. It would be better if the waitresses tended to their customers and communicated with the kitchen staff

The DJ is good. The staff is horrible. I read the reviews before and was a little worried but it was my cousins bday so I had to be a little optimistic. I waited to order a drink and the gentleman bartender took my order. My whiskey diets have been 7 bucks. I ordered for the third time this time asking for a double. He takes the 20 I hand him, I see he charges me 16 instead of 14 then he takes my change and put it into his tip jar. I'm a bartender downtown so I've been tipping him good up until this point where he decided to tip himself. I waited at the bar for 5 minutes and realized he wasn't coming back he never made eye contact with me after that. I told my family and they said he did it to them! Most of my family work in the service industry so we tip well. Basically the male bartender is a thief.
