Atmosphere is great. Beautiful locations with beautiful views. We took advantage of the valet, and had dinner on the rooftop. Food was mediocre for what they’re charging you. Wait staff was even worse. We went around 730p and it wasn’t crazy busy but our waitress was not attentive at all. Took our order, brought our drinks and brought the food out when it was ready. We didn’t see her at our table again until it was ready to pay. Even then, we were charged for items we didn’t order. This was corrected, so no worries there. We just had high hopes for this place and we were let down. Couldn’t even get drink refills. This was a one and done for us, unfortunately. Great location though! 🤷‍♀️

Beautiful location, I will say. The scenery is immaculate with a nice indoor space, fun rooftop area, and shaded patio with beautiful string lights and good fans. That’s the only good thing I can say unfortunately. The food was the definition of “mid.” Perhaps even a little below. Absolutely no flavor or seasonings. The service was one of the worst I’ve had. We had a nice person, but they literally only came once to take the order and then when the bill was ready he offered to finally refill us. We had a waitress at first who was rude and then was quickly replaced by the nicer waiter who just never came. I had the Seafood Pasta which looked beautiful but lacked flavor completely. My husband had the shrimp and grits and while the grits were okay, the portion was horrible for the price and the pimento cheese completely overpowered everything. I don’t recommend it unfortunately.

We visited on a very unusual, busy night. We were visiting friends who have a home on the island. Despite being very busy, our waiter was on point, very friendly, and informative. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was electric. I'm sure on a normal night it's very calm and not so loud. Make sure you get there before sunset to see the views as it's right on the water. We will be back for sure.

The starters were amazing. We tried a lot of different ones and they were all good. The hushpuppies with the honey butter were delicious. The crab cakes were also yummy. The fish special I had for dinner, I wouldn’t order again. The red rice was cold and the mahi mahi was a very thin piece of fish. The tartar sauce with my husband’s dinner was more of a dill sauce and I loved it. The view is absolutely amazing and I would go again, but I would try something else.

Matt Quinn

Google
The atmosphere and service were both excellent. The food just didn’t have the “wow” factor outside of the tuna poke Tuna Poke: 5/5 Crab dip: 3.5/5 Catch of the day (mahi) w/ asparagus and brown rice: 3- but the rice was a red sausage rice which was ok on its own but something I would never want with a mahi filet so hard to rate this

Google
Poor service by Ashley. It took us 10 minutes to get greeted. We ordered the chargrilled oysters which were undercooked and tasted terrible. When we told our server she immediately an attitude and asked defensively “what’s wrong with them”.. We also never got refills on our water. After she brought the check she rolled her eyes and slammed the book on the table. The atmosphere is great but due to the poor service and food will not be back.

Chris Swigart

Google
Food was very good. Service was equally good, with attention to detail. Save room for the flourless chocolate cake. What a way to top off a great meal and evening

We chose Islander 71 to host our wedding rehearsal dinner and I can't recommend them enough! The event coordinator Shannon was incredibly helpful throughout the entire planning process. She even went out of her way to get flowers and decor for us, and helped with setting up our tables, place cards, and dessert display so we didn't have to worry about anything. We were on the Aloha deck for dinner and it was beautiful - the ambiance was incredible, overlooking the water with the sun setting. It was even better than we had imagined! The food was delicious and we got so many compliments from our guests. The staff also helped with moving the tables around for us to host welcome drinks for our guests after dinner. If you're looking for a beautiful venue to host dinner or drinks, Islander 71 is it!

Yelp
I'm surprised by the reviews of Islander 71. The parking lot was packed. The two outside areas were filled with patrons enjoying their families alongside their favorite beverage and live music. Inside was a classier scene with a quiet bar (at the time) and a larger wide window dining area. We sat inside with a group of six--all meals were perfect! No complaints. Waitstaff, kitchen deck and manager were all pleasant. My Grandparents loved it so much they went back to another round of dinner steaks =)

Andrea D.

Yelp
Place was nice , bright and clean. My Drink was delicious ! Server very nice and attentive. Food ~ horrible . Hush puppies were so hard had to hold them with my hand to get the fork in them. Caesar salad ~ pile of lettuce with few croutons and a ton of cheese from cardboard container~ yuck ! I've never had Caesar salad that didn't have shaved Parmesan cheese. The rest of the meal was overcooked and tasteless.

Kyle D.

Yelp
Overall: Great place to enjoy the views and weather with some drinks and music. The good: Come for the views and stay for the views, it's always nice being by the water. They had a live duo playing covers and originals, and on a nice day you could spend hours here and have it fly by. Service was pretty attentive and they had a good amount of outdoor seating, plus an area for kids to run around. The not-so-good: Music was a little too loud and the prices are a little high. Food/drink: 8/10 Atmosphere: 9/10 Service: 8/10

Kenneth M.

Yelp
Great service, nice view, but bad food. We got the seafood platter with shrimp and flounder and the seafood pasta. Both dishes weren't good and small portions considering the price they are charging .

Rob S.

Yelp
This was our first restaurant stop on IOP during a family vacation. We sat outside near the water and had a great view. That was the best part about our experience. Our server was just OK and the food about the same. Our family loves hush puppies and we try them everywhere. These may be some of the worst I've had. Either their recipe just stinks or they were way over cooked. You couldn't even cut them with a fork. My kids turned their heads on them because the puppies were too hard. We also ordered the crab dip which was good and very filling. The crab cakes were also very good. I ordered a Pick 2 seafood meal that was so so. Kinda boring in preparation and presentation. Overall you're paying for the view here in my opinion.

Meg C.

Yelp
The service is always great here. I appreciate they added tents for outside. Charleston is way too hot in the summer without them. I was disappointed in my chicken sandwich. It was hard to eat and I couldn't tell if it was a bit undercooked. I mostly ate the bread and fries. Mac and cheese was meh too but the banana pudding was great! Parking can be tough on busy days. There are a few boat slips available too

Susan M.

Yelp
Our experience at Islander 71 is always on point! Fantastic service and excellent food with a beautiful view. We had the following and it was all 5 stars! Fried flounder with the BEST French fries ever and coleslaw. Grilled blackened Flounder with asparagus and coleslaw. Hamburger. Will be back!

Tiffani W.

Yelp
This is a beautiful restaurant. It has great water views and the outside area is perfect. Our server was very attentive and gave us great recommendations. The food was good. The hush puppies were my favorite with the honey butter. All the seafood was fried well. And not overly seasoned. The oil they used could have been changed out. But i guess it was late. There were times when the music got really loud.

Cj S.

Yelp
Our first time to this place since it changed owners, name and menu. Refreshing updated decor with spectacular views of the harbor. Our food was very good.

Stephen C.

Yelp
Incredible waterside restaurant with a beautiful view of the inter coastal waterway. Our server was sweet and very attentive. The food was fresh and delicious. They have live music and lots of events.

Carly C.

Yelp
I think this is a great place for drink and view or a fun Sunday but not as a place to get dinner or any food. The food was not very good here. I got the she crab fries and the she crab soup seemed a little sour. With a view over the marsh this is ideal for sunset.

Laura P.

Yelp
We went qith our doggo (major points for being dog friendly!). Great setup! There is a huge lower level bar with tvs, a play area for ikids, a restaurant (no dogs there of course) but also an enclosed upper level bar serving food - had heaters so it will be great during the winter when we come ro the beach! So we ordered a fish sandwich (which was good!) The side of mac and cheese which was ok, the crab dip which was good though i am.not a fan of the buttered saltines and the tuna poke which we really liked! If this place had a happy hour- we would be here often!

Alex K.

Yelp
Food service and ambiance were all excellent Beautiful view, friendly server, and the fried shrimp were excellent. I also really enjoyed the cheese grits. Would definitely recommend and come back!

Aimee T.

Yelp
I loved this place! First let me say that our group had 17 people, 9 of which were 16 and under. And we are big eaters. I was shocked they had food left for other people. The adults started with no less than three orders of the half dozen oysters and they were amazing! Cold, and easy to pour into your mouth. We also had the Baked Crab Dip Skillet. I'd never had anything like that before but it was great! Full of flavor. We also had the She Crab Fries, which if you don't know, it's an order of fries topped with She Crab soup. Let me be clear, I am not well versed in She Crab Soup, I have zero basis for comparison as this was my first time tasting, so this is a personal preference when I say that I am not a fan of it, thus far. The flavors were not it for me, and it was more watery than I would have preferred, but that's not necessarily a commentary on this restaurants she crab soup. Apparently, it's a dish that started in Charleston and is a southern staple so I will for sure try it again and have more to say about it. My hubby and I shared the Buffalo Shrimp, the Crab Cake Sandwich and the Lobster Roll and all of it was fabulous! Everything was cooked well, flavors were there and the presentation was nice too. The reason we came here was because we were a big group. They have a large outdoor space which includes tables, a sizable wrap-around bar, corn hole boards, gorgeous views of the water, and the menu has a little something for everyone including kids. The staff was SO nice and was willing to accommodate us (inside where it was cool), even though we had no reservation- keeping in mind that we came around 4pm. If it were any later, we probably would have had to be outside. The restaurant on the inside is clean, gives total coastal vibes and the bar is pleasing. I would happily come back again.

Carol S.

Yelp
Had a great late lunch at Islander 71. It was a little rainy so we decided to sit inside. The inside was beautiful and overlooked the marina but the outside area looked like it was a lot of fun so we might take a trip back to have a drink on their deck area. Our server was very nice and we both enjoyed our meals -- we started with hot crab dip and six oysters then my husband had a flounder sandwich and I had a crab cake sandwich. Definitely well worth the price!!

Billy H.

Yelp
This restaurant is the one place in Wild Dunes with fantastic views, reasonably priced food, lots of outdoor (and indoor) seating, and great for groups. And it's casual. We went to Charleston for a youth baseball tournament and many of us were staying in Wild Dunes, so we were excited to find this place. There was also a turfed area for kids to run around and there was a big stage for bands. As far as the menu, they have everything from seafood to steak to burgers, so even the pickiest eaters can find something. The drink menu has your typical boat drinks, wine, and a variety of beer including local beers. Our service was really good too and our server had a lot of people to keep up with in our group. Awesome experience.

Elizabeth F.

Yelp
The islander 71 has the beachy restaurant vibes. The oysters were amazing & fresh! I definitely want to make a trip back to try out other stuff.

John H.

Yelp
Outside bar is a fun area with live music in the summer. The service isn't great but if you are looking for a place to go have a drink and enjoy the outside vibe, give it a shot.

Tonya Y.

Yelp
Great Food, ambiance and views, family and dog friendly. Free valet parking with tip.

Yelp
Went for second time this vacation week in WD. Wine and martini good. Bartender makes the perfect dirty/dry martini. Both had she crab soup. Each bite with crab and very creamy. Delish! This time tried the crab cakes. All meat! Huge and 2 of them. And enough creamy corn under them to feed 2 hungry people. So, if you have someone to share, this is a good split meal. Or, just get 1 crab cake as an app. Then you could have the delicious hush puppies too! Husband got the fried flounder. He said prep other than fried would have been better. Kind of curled up. He just loves the fried shrimp so much, he's going to stay true to it. Very loud with low ceiling. Some ladies have to shout to be heard. (; But it's ok for the water view. Doing this review really for "Molly" our server!! She was most attentive, suggestions, waters, letting us know bartender very busy, right there for us. She gets an A+++. All servers there have been great, however. Islander is our favorite IOP restaurant now that they have broiled platter option for me!

Carmela F.

Yelp
First time eating here it had a Great ambiance and service looking forward to going again.

Shawnna P.

Yelp
Why does the A/C always have to be set to Arctic?! Aside from that....there are delicious menu items for the whole family. We were a large group seated immediately. Friendly servers tended us with grace. I recommend the crab cake burger. The bun is really superfluous. Just enjoy the crab. I've never seen deep-fried crackers before, but my oh my, they are the bomb! Now I know shat to do with my stale "Plaintop" soda crackers. The "She-crab" soup is really special. It's a must have starter. The bloody Mary is my favorite drink here. They just don't make them as well in Canada. LOL My husband enjoyed the salad with a mega ton of pecans loaded onto it. It was tough not to sneak some from the bowl. The fries have to be eaten hot. Don't wait for them to cool. Same with the Hush Puppies. The interior is very loud, so be prepared. The view from the deck is gorgeous. Very family friendly. The restrooms are kept clean. The bartender downstairs on the outdoor patio tried to "over tip" himself. We were annoyed, but let it slip. Overall we found the crowd and staff very relaxed and friendly.

Lauren S.

Yelp
I will say since we left, one downside is that we were supposed to be credited for an oyster's Rockefeller we ordered and it was never brought to our table. After we checked out, our server said she would credit it to our card and I've given ample time and it hasn't been done yet. We ordered 3 that night and only received two, but they were delicious!

Sara B.

Yelp
Service was great. We had a large party and called ahead a few days in advance for reservations. We were seated right away. Views were amazing. Food was just, okay. Hushpuppy and crab dip apps were good, but otherwise the rest of the meal was just okay.

Kamryn E.

Yelp
Our first experience wasn't great and we sat inside... service took forever and a lot of items came out incorrect. WELL we tried it again and then a few more times and it was great! Think it was just an off day so don't knock them when they are swamped. The food is good, nothing crazy but the vibes and atmosphere when you sit outside is what makes it a great place! My nieces and nephews were able to dance while the band played. Cocktails were great and they had an orange crush (bonus points haha). Love hanging out here during the day and for dinner! Great place to bring fam/friends who are visiting. Mahi, fried shrimp, tuna salad and hush puppies are the top for us!

Ethan G.

Yelp
FOOD POISONING! Do not eat here, 7 out of the 10 people in our group all got food poisoning the next day. I've seen other reviews where customers got sick as well. When we contacted the manager, Chris, we were met with a rude response as he didn't have time to deal with us as he had a restaurant to run. This is definitely a tourist trap as well as the extremely high priced food for the quality and quantity was NOT WORTH it at all. Definitely not coming back here. - Food Poisoning - Terrible customer service - Overpriced mediocre food

Toby J.

Yelp
A great dinning spot on the water, food is very good and service is excellent. You may dine inside with great views of the marina and water or at the outdoor bar.

Tierney G.

Yelp
Do not eat here!!! Went here the other week while in town for vacation and my group ended up getting AWFUL food poisoning. Vomiting and diarrhea so bad that I will NEVER trust seafood again. Besides that - the food was meh (I got the scallops) and the service was well below par. Our wait staff came for our drink and food orders but did not check on us beyond that. Additionally, my friend was served the wrong meal (hamburger instead of tuna burger). My boyfriend had to flag someone down to ask for water refills. Please go somewhere else so your vacation won't be ruined like ours was!!!

Bob R.

Yelp
We had an early dinner and it was fantastic. Throw in great food and service and what more do you need. Sitting right next to the water was wonderful and we really have a great time. We'll be back.

Emily A.

Yelp
I didn't have the highest expectations for the place as it is the typical tourist trap type of restaurant. The wait staff were very friendly. The food was lackluster and pretty disappointing and we really couldn't eat it. I don't have words to describe the food other than just nasty. but again - this is to be expected with pretty much any eatery on the water in a heavy tourist town.

Eve K.

Yelp
Nice chill and fun marina side dining spot on the Isle of Palms. Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 5 Cost to worth it rating: 3 (sandwiches ~$15, seafood plates ~$30) Opentableable: no but easy to walk in during the day Return worthiness: yes Eve award: nice place to eat on isle of palms with ample parking Highlights: - Nice atmosphere: simple spot by boats and is relaxing - Multiple searing areas: inside seating with large floor to ceiling windows ri see out and big comfy booths and tables, outside seating with a grass area with cornhole and outdoor bar, also a covers open bar on the top level - mahi sandwich: great, can get it blackened if you'd like. Also tasty seasoned fries - Tropical drinks: so you can relax for your vacay ample parking: not something I usually consider but on this island many restaurants areas parking is a problem Lowlights: - Lunch doesn't offer entrees so limited menu. Came here twice in our week visit and would come back for sure--maybe hang out outside one evening next time.

Katherine M.

Yelp
We attended a NYE Party here and it was AWESOME, Starting with the staff, who were super helpful, incredibly efficient and all of them seemed to be enjoying their jobs, which is so rare these days. The buffet style food was top class. A stunningly visual oyster bar, beautifully cooked rare beef, pork, chicken, salmon, shrimp and numerous creative sides, the chef was OUTSTANDING.A huge charcuterie board and fun deserts bar was also very well presented. Two DJs on two different levels, a famous magician and open bar made for a magical evening enjoyed by everyone. We're blown away by the detail, effort and execution by the team here at The Islander. We'll be back very soon!

Terry W.

Yelp
My brothers came out of town for a golf trip. We stayed on our Palm and decided to try Islander 71 and the food was great. The service was great. We enjoyed the music and they really treated us. Excellent. We ended up going there a couple nights we enjoyed it so much.

Larry D.

Yelp
6 people dining in restaurant, not busy at all. My oysters were overcooked and not hot, fries were not hot, coleslaw tasted like nothing and hush puppies were so hard I couldn't get a fork in em. Dissaponting

John O.

Yelp
Was looking all over IOP for grouper, but the staff at Islander 71 introduced me to WAHOO. So Good. We got there a little late, but never felt rushed. Views all around were amazing

Scott M.

Yelp
Enjoyed our sunset dinner on the patio. Great food and atmosphere. We had several entrees including the lobster roll and blackened shrimp plate.

Mike F.

Yelp
Food was not what i expected especially for the price. Service was just ok. Expected a lot more from this restaurant only due to all the work that was done from the previous place. Super disappointing at the establishment.

Chris M.

Yelp
I had an event for 35 people here at Islander 71. Everything was great! Working with the even coordinator, Shannon, was amazing. Shannon was very responsive over email and was able to give us several options to choose from. Everyone loved the food. We selected: steak bites, salmon, shrimp and grits, mac and cheese(this is a must), veg, potatoes, and rolls. Lastly, I want to show our appreciation to the wait staff(I didn't get everyones name from the event on 12/2, but do remember Trudy). The waitstaff did not let anyone go without a drink in hand and were very prompt to pick up plates. I would highly recommend doing your event here!

Candyce V.

Yelp
Giving this spot 4 stars for the views, cocktails, and service. But I wasn't crazy about the food. We had about an hour wait, which was a pleasure because we were able to walk around and enjoy the gorgeous views and take plenty of pics for the 'gram. Plus, we had cocktails--The Captain's Margarita and A Day on the Waterway. Mom was feeling goooood after her cocktail so it must've been effective haha. I enjoyed The Captain's Margarita, and ended up adding the Grand Marnier floater to "speed it up" as the menu says. And I had the need for speed! Unfortunately, the sky opened just as our table was ready. So we got our food to go--shrimp, flounder, fries, and coleslaw. The shrimp and flounder were a bit over cooked. And there were a lot of items that they didn't have on hand. Since it's only been a month, they're still working out the kinks. But all in all, this is a great spot that will only get better!

Tom W.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, great cocktails, but their mains are terrible. Such a surprise that an upscale seafood restaurant would put out such seriously subpar dishes. We had two tables of 8 and 7, and every single person was disappointed with their entree. Pathetic filets of flounder, overcooked, dried out salmon, flaccid shrimp. I could go on and on. We will concede the fries are delicious. Islander 71: you clearly invested in a beautiful space, why are you content putting out such disappointing dishes? Maybe it's tough to find good kitchen staff on the island. We would not recommend.

Stephan C.

Yelp
The old Morgan Creek now has a new owner and facelift. It's beautiful and very welcoming. The view is still breathtaking and the openness is a real positive change. Celebrating a birthday today. I'm certain we'll be here for awhile. Love this area and the vibe here.

Robert H.

Yelp
I purchased the "Tower" which ina lobster tail. The tail was over done and had very little taste. The oysters on a half shell had a considerable amount of shell pieces. The melted butter that is supposed to be warm was located in a bed of ice. The servers appeared to have very little training if any. In general the very costly meal was very disappointing to say the least. I would not return to this restaurant nor would I recommend it. Bob H.

Alexandra D.

Yelp
Islander 71 is in the old Morgan Creek Grill location on IOP. Causal spot to pull the boat up to for lunch or dinner. Free slips for boats but pay to park your car ($10) or valet. Fun vibe, several different outdoor patios on 3 levels. Family friendly, food is causal Southern/American including fish sandwiches, burgers & fries, salads. Friendly service, quick and easy. Live music in the evenings. The only negative is they no longer serve their frozen drinks that are listed on their online menu which we were looking forward to. Also pup friendly. Fantastic views. Good option when on IOP.

Cherry Mae B.

Yelp
This place is perfect for a nice dinner with friends, family, or a date if you don't mind paying a bit extra. The views are absolutely gorgeous. The dining room overlooks the water and some houses in the area. They have 3 bars, one on the inside and 2 outdoor one. Most cocktails are at $14. I absolutely recommend their Mai Tai if you're looking for something sweet. The she crab soup was okay. I had the daily catch of the day which was grouper. This place is honestly nice but I feel like the food could be a lil cheaper. I highly recommend this place though for drinks while watching the sun set!

JohnnieBlueNeat X.

Yelp
Aweful experience! When charging $26 for a pasta entree, it's got to be edible... not a bowl of mushy, pre-cooked linguine doused in lemon with dried out shellfish!!

Jack J.

Yelp
A very disappointing dining experience. Where to start? Some of the worst service we've had anywhere in Charleston. We were ignored most of our visit. I had to resist going up to the bar to ask for refills for the table. Ambiance was decent but when you're being ignored on a night out you'd been looking forward to, does it even matter? The food was hit and miss. Fried oysters were tasty and the burger was lifeless and dry. Worst drinks we've had in Charleston. 13 bucks for a Long Island iced tea that seemed to be watered down nothing in a small cup overstacked with ice was laughable. For the money spent, I say go elsewhere because we were treated like sh!t for no reason.

Frank L.

Yelp
Food not that good. Service by Emmy was good Ambiance ok if you set outside Probably wouldnt go back

N H.

Yelp
Food was a little slow coming out for dinner but was excellent after it came. Good service and great atmosphere

Amy W.

Yelp
We got here just after last call (afternoon) on a Sunday. But they were nice enough to let us all get a cocktail. Pretty pretty views. With lots of outdoor seating options. And corn hole available to play.
