In Kyoto, traditional heritage is inspiring modern design - SilverKris

"Housed in a 132-year-old machiya, this flagship marries traditional timber architecture with a contemporary retail program: a narrow wooden façade, exposed timber beams soaring into a double-height interior, a serene courtyard garden and a muted grey palette (inspired by sumi) form a calming backdrop for pleated trousers, reversible jackets, the gallery-like Bao Bao bag installation and locally made itajime-dyed scarves available only at the Kyoto boutique; the space, designed by Naoto Fukasawa, intentionally integrates experimental brand elements with the layered spirit of the historic building." - Danielle Demetriou

Beautiful space, but the service left something to be desired. I walked into the shop about 15 minutes before closing and was lucky to catch a beautiful exhibition — really inspiring. I was genuinely interested in buying something, but instead of offering assistance, the staff member simply followed me quietly. Not rude, but definitely not welcoming either. When I went to pay and asked about the tax-free option, I was told I needed my physical passport. Fair enough — but there was no attempt to help or find a solution. I understand it was late, but for a premium store, you’d expect a more attentive and helpful attitude, especially when a customer clearly wants to make a purchase. Overall, a bit of a letdown.

Beautiful store! Love the concept of converting a traditional house into a store. Love the exhibit space at the back of the house. I went there for Homme Plisse pieces but just like other stores, availability depends on when you visit the store. So sometimes, pieces you like may not be available. Staff are generally friendly!

Ryoa was super helpful, amazing, and funny. Was able to buy and try on mutiple BAOBAO from the limited edition September release. My partner and I ended up buying the last one! Definitely will be back for Ryoa. Overall, staff treated us so well and super patient.

Honestly I was nervous because of the other reviews, but I don't know what they're talking about. I went in the afternoon on a weekday, no reservation, and there was no line. Wanted a Baobao and they had plenty of stock and were very kind and helpful. I speak only the tiniest bit of Japanese but it was fine. Absolutely lovely experience. (Also I basically never write reviews but I thought the other ones were super misleading.) Walked out very happy!

pretty garden out the back with a little exhibition room...! didn't come here to shop but our sales assistant was so helpful and passionate, great to visit just for the pleasure of looking & if you are interested in textile arts

If you're Asian or look East Asian, I'd suggest skipping this place. The staff clearly play favorites with white customers—they let Westerners cut in front of Asians in line, smile warmly at them, but glare at us. Don’t let some EASY GIRLS working there kill your travel vibe. I guess some Japanese are just used to kneeling to Westerners.

All the guys here have the very bad attitude. They are liking the machines saying we don’t have this in stock and will not even let you to try the bags on. Only the lady here is quite polite and helps you to open the door.

Rude male staff +1 No doubt that they treat customers based on their preferences. The guy only know say NO. No greeting, no service.
