The 24 Best Restaurants in Tulum, Mexico | Eater

"What is a virtuoso Italian pastry chef — one who worked for Giorgio Locatelli, Marco Pierre White, Pierre Gagnaire, and Gordon Ramsay — doing at a tiny bakery cafe nestled alongside wellness stores and a co-work space on the outskirts of the budding La Veleta neighborhood? Living in paradise and staying far removed from the stress of Michelin-starred kitchens. Opened in 2018, Fabrizio Italdo’s boutique pasticceria uses 10-year-old and 25-year-old sourdough starters for items like a perfectly crusty concha made with French butter and a divine almond croissant filled with frangipane and crowned with flaked almond. Italdo also molds desserts into lifelike fantasies such as a creme anglaise cacao fruit and an intricately detailed vanilla bean made of vanilla cream frozen, dipped in chocolate, and quickly brushed during the shock of temperatures to create realistic wrinkles. The chef can even give a masterclass on drinking espresso while spooning portions of his mom’s tiramisu fashioned with cacao from Chiapas." - Bill Esparza

Very cute place ideally for breakfast or brunch. We heard good things about their sourdough so after our breakfast and coffee we asked for a loaf of it with a side of butter. Sit outside.

They ripped us off and charged $300 pesos for an ice latte and a small piece of gansito (chocolate cake). They told us that the “take out” fee is $100 pesos!!!!! What a bullshit. We will never go back and warn people to not come here. Very dishonest people ripping off tourists. I’ve never paid 100 pesos ($5 USD) for taking out food my life even in the US. Reply to the owner: For the record, we went to your shop on March 16, 2025 between 10-12pm (I don’t remember the exact time). As I said, we ordered an iced coffee and gansito (small chocolate cake) to go. You can pull up the bills and check. Of course, it is so out of the norm so WE ASKED your employees THREE TIMES and they said it’s 50 pesos for each container (the plastic cup and the box for the small cake) SO IT COMES UP TO 100 Pesos = $5 USD. Your employees ripped us off I guess when you are not there. It’s not a lot of money but it pisses me off whenever people are dishonest to tourists.

Quaint and relaxing morning, breakfast, coffee and a quick Rain storm. Great experience! We enjoyed a Long Black, Cappuccino, Sourdough with butter, Fried Eggs and Cactus Quesadilla!

The service is courteous and I appreciated that. Both times I stopped by, I had my coffee prepared how I like it and the taste was wonderful. I also had two different snacks, a peanut butter cookie and a Madeline. Both nice. The seating isn't so great - it's either inside at a little bar facing the wall or outside on a patio by the street with all the heat/humidity. The bathroom was appalling and I was shocked at how run down and dirty it was. That needs to improve.

As a long-term Tulum resident obviously we know Italdo for a while. I also recall everyone loving it ever since living here. Pricier than downtown, but the fact that there were foam teddies on your cappuccino and the coffee was REALLY good, made it worth it. Food was great too. Something for every time of the day. As soon as they started charging the same price as in Paris, New York, Japan.. it got ridiculous. The team working outside is absolutely lovely. Still. Always was. But the coffee isn't the same,(no more foam teddies!). If you're unlucky, pastry is from the day before, extra charges for literally everything with a lovely big circle around the 20% tip suggestion on the bill at the end. I still go twice a year but try to avoid it. There's better options.

The desserts and pastries here are truly works of art and equally delicious. Although I’m not typically a coffee drinker, I decided to try a vanilla latte, and it turned out to be of very good quality. The prices are on the higher side, but they are in line with the Tulum market average.

Delicious and impeccably presented food. Organic origins noted on some. I had the passionfruit/chamomile juice - original, delicious, and sour. Then the veggie burger with salad. The burger is a big mushy - could do with a better recipe. The salad with avo was delicious. I had cheesecake to finish - presented beautifully. The base was hard biscuit though - rather than crushed biscuits. A bit tough in the spoon! Delicious flavour. Service was brusque and inattentive even though it was quiet. Initially I ordered pizza which they didn't have - the waiter could have suggested another dish rather than just walk away! Not a great location- off a very busy loud main road. Good for a quick bite.

I stopped by to try the vegan desserts and pastries! I got the vegansito which is a local desert but veganized. So moist and delicious! I’m not even a fan of chocolate but it was amazing! Highly recommend trying their vegan pastries. There was quite a few options plus fresh juices!
