ITC Maurya, A Luxury Collection Hotel, New Delhi

"Give us your first impression of this place: What was it like? Arriving in Delhi after nearly a day of travel feels like a fever dream; you're leaving the airport, taking in the crazy traffic patterns, and watching Delhi buzz by you. Then, you start seeing a lot of green. You learn you're in a diplomatic enclave. And barely 15 minutes from the airport you turn off a road, enter a security gate, and climb a beautiful, curving hill. You're at ITC Maurya, an imposing but attractive sandstone-colored building, surrounded by lush flowers and grass in the middle of Delhi. A favorite among visiting dignitaries (on a tour, staff will proudly show you the suite where President Barack Obama stayed during his visit), it specializes in offering luxury alongside security and modern amenities a few minutes' south of the bustling Connaught Place. And what's the backstory? ITC is part of the Luxury Collection (so Bonvoy members, take note), and an Indian-owned and -operated hotel chain. Each property is uniquely named and designed after a historic cultural moment: in this case, the grand Mauryan dynasty. The hotel houses a significant art collection by Indian artists like Krishen Khanna, M.F. Husain, Tyeb Mehta, Yusuf Arakkal, A R Ramachandran, and Akbar Padamsee; the hotel pays for and maintains green space beyond its property line for the city of Delhi. It's a chain that prides itself on catering to foreign visitors, and providing amenities that will make for a smooth business or leisure trip, but that also maintains the hallmark culture of service that hotels in the country do so well. In addition to its green efforts (recycling and filtering its own water on-site), its restaurants are a draw in the city, and regularly win awards. Tell us about your room. What type was it? How did it look, and what was it like to be there? A well-appointed suite was the perfect way to be received upon arrival. Not only that, but the hotel appoints butlers to guests with rooms at a certain level. That butler will bring you snacks and refreshments, accompany you around the hotel, and help set up any tours or other visits you want to experience during your stay. Even with that level of attention, I barely wanted to leave the room. Picture a large, open space with tall picture windows overlooking the greenery and pool. A separate, spacious bathroom with soaking tub and shower. A personalized pillow upon arrival and other goodies every night during my stay. I showered immediately, was brought a celery juice by my butler, and felt the jet lag melting away almost within an hour. And how's the F&B? ITC's hotels are known for award-winning Indian and international cuisine; the five restaurants and two bars—not to mention the patisserie—are no exception at the ITC Maurya. Bukhara is a great one to start with: with traditional clay ovens, they make bread on-site, and turn out unforgettable tandoor-cooked kebabs and vegetables. Word of warning: the portions are generous and you won't leave hungry. If you just need to relax after a long day, grab an expertly made cocktail at the Golf Bar, modeled after an English Country Club, which is elegant but cozy and a relaxing place to stay a while. How did you find the service, start to finish? Smooth and efficient, or clumsy and forgetful? The service is incredibly attentive, with a traditional Indian welcome on arrival and a team seeing you to your room. My butler was a life-saver, knowing exactly what to bring me to help with the jet lag but also when to let me rest up. If you're not used to this standard of hospitality you may find it a bit invasive, but for a visitor new to the country and a little disoriented after a long trip, it was a relief. Check-in and check-out are smooth, and much of the hotel's systems are digital, so go quickly. And who are the other guests? What are they like? Mostly Indian business travelers, and some foreign tour groups. All skewing a bit more polished and international on the whole—this hotel caters to road warriors. What about the neighborhood? Does the hotel fit in, make itself part of the scene? As part of the diplomatic enclave, the immediate neighborhood doesn't have a lot to offer—but you're a close drive to the airport and Connaught Place, and from there, most of the sightseeing you'll want to do. The hotel does integrate well with the neighborhood, though—it's responsible for much of the area's green space, a welcome change from some of Delhi's more frenetic areas. Is there anything you'd change? I do think the service could relax a bit for international travelers who don't require or are used to that level of attentiveness...but that's a matter of personal opinion. Tell us what we missed! Maybe a tidbit that simply elevated the stay? I wish I had made more use of the pool, especially during Delhi's hotter months. It's glorious. The Kaya Kalp spa is superb and offers 30 treatments—book one for the day you arrive to help adjust and fend off jet lag. The hotel also offers "Food Sherpa Tours," walking tours with a focus on culinary discoveries around Delhi, that is a complete highlight. A chef from the hotel will take you around Delhi to try traditional food at some off-the-beaten-path spots, and it was a wonderful way to learn about the city. Bottom line: Worth it? Why? Absolutely. The hotel caters to visitors in ways that will just make your trip smoother and stress-free. It's ideal for Bonvoy members who want to get the points, too." - Corina Quinn

ITC Maurya Hotel | Best places to stay in Delhi

"Situated on the edge of Chanakyapuri, the capital’s diplomatic enclave, the Maurya is something of a landmark with its distinctive stepped profile, fronted by immaculately tended lawns and shrubbery. Reputedly a favourite of visiting dignitaries and heads of state, it wears this honour lightly and you’re more likely to be rubbing shoulders with other high-end leisure travellers. An array of swish modern rooms come with excellent facilities including an ayurvedic spa and lovely swimming pool. The hotel’s famous Bukhara and Dum Pukht restaurants (with Northwest Frontier and Awadhi cuisine respectively) are celebrated foodie destinations, still wowing Delhi’s great and good along with out-of-town visitors. Around fifteen minutes’ drive from most of the city’s main sights, this is a great option for those who want to base themselves somewhere calm and peaceful, and just dip in and out of the busy centre. ITC Maurya is probably Delhi’s most iconic hotel frequented by heads of state. The hotel lobby has several art pieces done by the late MF Hussain including a tapestry which is fitted behind the reception. The roof of the lobby is another artwork and several of such art works are prominently displayed all over. The hotel itself is quite comfy, although the room service could be better, it does take a lot of time for your simple orders to be serviced. What is truly appreciable is the eco friendly nature of the hotel with a solar motor powered system which provides the hotel with hot water. Water bottles provided in the rooms and all over are also in glass bottles which are recycled every time. I also liked the fact that the hotel provides a good working knife to cut the fruits that thy provide everyday unlike so many hotels which provide a butter knife and expect you to cut fruits using that. Overall quite a comfortable stay and with the food options, quite enjoyable as well.

Spa (Kaya Kalp – Deep Tissue Massage): Had a wonderful experience at Kaya Kalp Spa, ITC Maurya. The deep tissue massage by Ms. Elizabeth was perfectly customized to my needs. She was extremely skilled and precise with pressure points, making the session deeply relaxing. SALON: The salon service at ITC Maurya was equally great. Ms. Amarjeet and Mr. Ramesh were very professional, kind, and attentive. They understood my requirement well and did an amazing blow-dry. Loved how my hair turned out.

I recently stayed at ITC Maurya, Delhi, and overall, it was a wonderful experience. The room was spotless and beautifully furnished, with a comfortable layout that made it feel luxurious yet cozy. The bathroom was well-stocked with all amenities and plenty of fresh towels, which was a nice touch. The buffet breakfast and lunch were excellent — a wide range of options, all delicious. The restaurant staff were extremely courteous and attentive, ensuring a pleasant dining experience. I also want to appreciate the housekeeping team, who did an impeccable job of refreshing the room every time I stepped out. The only downside was the check-in experience. The front desk staff seemed rather cold and unwelcoming. I had to interact with them twice, and both times I felt the warmth and hospitality could have been better — especially for a hotel of this standard. Overall, despite the check-in hiccup, it was a great stay, and I would gladly return for the comfort, food, and service the hotel is known for.

A landmark luxury hotel known for its grandeur and hospitality, this place delivers a classic 5-star experience the moment you step inside 🙂🌿 The lobby is elegant, the ambience is warm, and the whole property carries that signature ITC richness blended beautifully with Indian cultural elements. Rooms are spacious, refined and extremely comfortable, with premium furnishings, spotless washrooms and views that make the stay feel truly upscale 🛏️✨ The hotel’s attention to detail — from housekeeping to in-room amenities — adds a layer of comfort that makes your stay smooth and relaxing. Dining here is a major highlight: from iconic fine-dine restaurants to multi-cuisine spaces, the food quality is top-tier. Whether it’s North Indian, global cuisine or special chef-crafted menus, the flavours and presentation are always impressive 🍽️🔥 Their service stands out too — staff is polite, attentive and exceptionally well-trained. A perfect choice when you want a mix of luxury, comfort and timeless hospitality. Classy, elegant and consistently top-notch 🌙🏨✨

The hotel remains great for overall ambiance and quality of rooms, but has unfortunately not kept up with changes in the type of visitors to Delhi and their needs. The hotel is focused on government delegations and marriage events, with high-end restaurants that draw non-guests. However, for tourists and business guests, the hotel misses obvious things like: - casual dining (outside the formulaic buffet) - coffee shops that are open early - a proper gym The service has also declined, especially in the quality of the bell desk staff. For the last 3 stays, they have been able to do noting without the supervisor being invovled. Hiring deaf-mute people for frontline customer service roles is a weird DEI flex. The hotel staff do not respond to travel requests on email and do not have WhatsApp, so we need to go and book travel directly with the travel desk. Many of the drivers cannot follow GPS instructions. To be clear, this is not reflective of India or Delhi. Other 5-star hotels - Taj Palace next door, Hyatt Regency, Le Meridien - do not have these service issues. Overall, the hotel seems to have been frozen in time and has not kept up with changes in the types of people who visit India. I have put up with this decline in service for the last 5+ years, but this is my last stay. As a Litetime Titanium Ambassador guest, I have seen this decline in real time and am afraid this hotel will go the way of the Ashok. Highly recommend Marriott Bonvoy members looking to stay in the city to consider Le Meridien as a more consistently high-performing option. UPDATE: I was going to stay one more day checking in Dec 17 to pick my stored bags up, and then moving to another hotel, but the hotel forgot to send the car for the pickup. Unlike every other five star hotel in India there is no way to get in touch with the concierge or the travel desk via WhatsApp, and the only way to contact is through the phone line to the travel desk that no one responds to, and when you call the front desk no one knows what is happening. The transport that relies on people writing things down on pieces of paper with the hope such someone will update some system to reflect changes in travel plans! This is very 1990's India unfortunately, when the rest to the country has moved on and is more digitally connected than the United States. This sort of all makes sense, as most of the non-government business and tourist visitors seem to be Boomer and late Gen X Indian immigrants, who are nostalgic about this hotel from when it was one of the very few five-star hotels in Delhi in the 1980s and 90s. The hotel managers were very eager to rectify the situation and offered to personally be my contact point for my stay, but clearly a hotel cannot function with managers and other leaders being personally involved to address systemic deficiencies in operations and the quality of frontline staff. As a result, I have canceled my stay for today and will be staying at the Hyatt Regency after I pick my bags up at the hotel.

I wish I could give negative stars to this place. This “5 star hotel” is worse than the average 3 star hotels. To begin with, they don’t have a decent Wi-Fi; if you are expecting to work, just forget about it. 50 mbps is the best they can offer you!! There is always waiting for breakfast buffet. If you are really hungry they have basement where you can go and eat the same breakfast spread!! That smells horrible. Even if you get a table for breakfast, nothing will be served to you on time, not even waterrr!!!! You will find yourself running after the staff every 10 minutes. If you are a in-house guest and especially, if you are traveling from outside India… the staff will constantly fish you for tips. They won’t even do the job but will simply keep looking at you for tips!!! This, by far, is the worst experience I have had in India.

We visited ITC Maurya, Delhi, specifically to try the famous Bukhara Restaurant on the ground floor—one of the most talked-about North Indian dining spots in the city. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t match the reputation. We ordered several vegetarian snacks and the iconic Dal Bukhara. While the snacks were above average, the Dal Bukhara felt very overrated and not worth the hype that surrounds this legendary dish. Service at Bukhara was slow, and overall the hospitality felt unwelcoming, which is surprising for a luxury 5-star hotel like ITC Maurya. The hotel lobby also left a poor impression—dim lighting, a dull atmosphere, and a strong washroom-like smell that made the space feel uncomfortable rather than premium. ITC Maurya is known as a landmark luxury hotel in Delhi, but our visit didn’t deliver the expected 5-star ambiance, service quality, or dining experience. Worth trying Bukhara once for the name, but the overall experience could be much better. #ITCMaurya #BukharaRestaurant #DelhiDining #LuxuryHotelsDelhi #DalBukhara #DelhiFoodReview

Have stayed here with an ITC membership (but booked without membership discount) yet the experience has been mediocre. Been here for a corporate event and that was very poor with mics not working, slides not working, ac either too cold with loud fan or not on.. food was ok. Their breakfast/ brunch menus are only ok. There's a vibe to the place of heritage etc but that's only good for a one time visit. I would suggest using shangri la for a better experience with most things, including food..lodhi for a better stay and hospitality. (Not comparing with taj or Oberoi since they are exceptional usually with their hospitality and that makes everything ok!)
