"You'll have to venture out of Istanbul's city centre to find this rather simple restaurant, but you certainly won't regret making the trip. At Itsumi, authentic Japanese cuisine is expertly prepared using the finest ingredients. This is the place to be if you're in the mood for finely cut salmon sashimi, deep-fried prawns in a delicately spiced sauce, or squid and tuna sushi. You can rely on the chef to deliver the specialities of his homeland with all the necessary nuances. NB: The omakase menu has to be booked in advance." - Michelin Inspector

Overall, this sushi spot is a great find — probably one of the best in Istanbul. Everything we ordered was fresh, well-prepared, and really satisfying. It might not be the cheapest option if you’re on a tight budget. If you’re looking for authentic Japanese flavors and a solid sushi experience, this place is definitely worth a visit.

I had to cut a star for the service. Only the Japanese girl was lovely and smiling all the time , the rest since we entered : the angry face, yes they were polite and nothing bad came from them. But all the time with the attitude on the face . That was really strange in a such place. Like no manager to notice that ???? The sushi was amazing!!! The Tori katsu (tavuk sinitzel)too. The fried rice with chicken was average. I tried so much better ones in different places. We loved the desert, the cheese cake! We will go back for sure to try different type of Sushi’s .

Used to come to this restaurant often when living in Istanbul ten years ago. Pleasantly surprised to see they’re still in business. This Japanese still keeps its high quality of service and the food is authentic and delicious. The Beef Tataki was beautifully seasoned, sushi were all freshly prepared and full of flavours. They sent us a dish of chicken with vegetables for free and that was juicy and tender. The rest of the meal was all in high standard. Glad we came back to have dinner at Istumi after all these years!!

A restaurant with extremely professional and respectful staff, calm atmosphere and most importantly - delicious Japanese cuisine. I definitely recommend this place and am planning to visit it again. Happy to have found this gem in Istanbul.

Itsumi, a simple Japanese restaurant with friendly service. Claims to be authentic Japanese. It was not to my liking. Rating ⭐️⭐️ 2/5 Average PPP TL 2500

Best fresh sushi in whole Istanbul! Amazing service. Japanese chefs. Very authentic! It doesn’t seem to busy, which is a plus here. Yes the interior is not super flashy and the region is not a hot spot BUT I can fully recommend this place. Don’t skip on the fried rice cake with mung bean filling!!!! One thing: the soy sauce and wasabi were not my favourite.

Yelp
Authentic, that's how I would describe Itsumi. I've been to two sushi places recently, Inari and Itsumi. And while Inari was good, Itsumi has the best sushi I ate in Istanbul so far. It's one of the only places to have gotten the texture of rice just right. I didn't fall in love with every single roll we had ordered on the 30 piece 115₺ sushi platter, but for the most part, it was great, especially the dragon and crunchy roll were heavenly. The menu is authentic, you won't find your beef sushi roll here like other Japanese restaurants which create rolls specifically catered for the Turkish palate. The friendly and attentive staff is authentic, talk to each other in Japanese, there is even a Japanese waitress, so while I didn't particularly like the decor, this place is the most authentic Japanese experience I've ever had in Istanbul. No wonder that Japanese people frequent here. And as far as pricing goes, it really isn't that expensive for a Japanese restaurant of this quality. Certainly not a cheap meal, but if you ever find yourself in Kanyon craving for some sushi, do not, for the love of sushi, go near SushiCo and torture yourself with that atrocity, you deserve better, your stomach deserves better, just go out, walk for a little, and find this place. Your stomach will thank me. However there are a few minor points. They don't serve real wasabi but horseradish like most other places, unlike Inari, which does serve the real deal. The green tea ice cream was too bitter, again Inari is better in this aspect. But this is just nitpicking.

Yelp
Do you ever get the feeling when you talk into a restaurant in a foreign country... and all you see are people eating of the same ethnicity of the restaurant your eating at? Well as much as Italian food in Istanbul is hit or miss, lets just say japanese food is almost always a miss. Now I know what your thinking, who starts a review with a run on sentence and a gross generalization? THIS GUY! But seriously. I walked into Itsumi, which is almost impossible to describe where it is, and what do I see? About 25 Japanese people eating at the various tables. I already knew it was going to be great the moment I walked in. On all levels, Itsumi delivered. Amazing service, amazing food, very vocal chef who sent us a complimentary dish. We got a bottle of Saki (hot) and about 60 pieces of sushi, a soup and an appetizer split between four people. We walked out paying a 160TL each. Considering the bottle was 225TL, I am thinking this was an amazing deal. Try the fried shrimp app, the miso soup, the seawood soup, and virtually any of their sushi platters. I promise you, you won't be disappointed. Easiest 5 star review I will ever have to write. ps. Shout to TimeOut Istanbul for putting me on to this place. You are finally doing it right.
