"As a ryotei cook, the chef learned never to forget the basics of Kyoto cuisine. In a mark of respect, the meal begins with a cup of sake. The chef expresses his commitment to gracious service through the passion he devotes to his cooking. Tilefish sashimi is lightly salted, enhancing flavour. Instead of simmered vegetables, hot-pot cooking is offered. Prizing engagement with his guests, the chef works his magic right before their eyes. The surest sign of a sincere craftsman is earnest devotion to his craft." - Michelin Inspector
My wife and I had a lovely dinner at Iwasaki on our honeymoon. One of our favorite experiences we’ve had in Japan. All the food was prepared with care and personality, and the chef even shared that the rice was grown at his parents house nearby. Everything was delicious. 10/10 would recommend!

Wonderful 6 person counter Omakase restaurant. One chef prepares and serves everything. Not only was the food delicious and beautifully presented, but the chef explained each course. Rice was from his family’s farm, which he proudly served.
A true dining experience.

My most enjoyable Kaiseki lunch near the Kyoto Imperial Palace was an unforgettable gourmet experience with my family’s celebration. A wide array of delicious small dishes carefully curated by Master Chef of Iwasaki, Michelin star restaurant. Lunch prices with drinks are truly value for money. Will return one day to this beautiful Kyoto city again for more dining experiences.

If you do nothing else in Kyoto, go to Gosho Iwasaki. Every element was executed to perfection. The attention to detail in each dish, the delicious sake and beautiful aesthetic with rear garden all just accentuated the absolutely incredible multi course kaiseki we had the pleasure of tasting. Our experience here was the highlight of our entire Japan experience. Highly worth it!

I enjoyed every well crafted dish in this incredibly peaceful restaurant. My personal favorite course in the omakase was the beef shabu shabu but every dish was well thought out and beautifully presented. Thank you chef Iwasaki for the wonderful meal!!!

Great little kaiseki meal for a reasonable price. We had the whole restaurant to ourselves but it never felt awkward as the chef was hospitable and friendly throughout.
