The 25 Best Birthday Dinner Restaurants In London - London - The Infatuation

"Ixchel, a Mexican spot on the King’s Road, is just as good at causing a fear of missing out from anyone walking past as it is at making tangy ceviche and drizzle-ready homemade salsas. The Tulum-esque space will set the scene for a one-more-margarita holiday mentality, as will the live music and great tacos. Book the 20-seater table downstairs if you’re really looking to make a night of it." - jake missing, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna, heidi lauth beasley

20 Restaurants Great For A Group Dinner In London

"Ixchel has live music, excellent soft shell crab tacos, and a resort-meets-King’s Road energy that’s perfect with a group. The sofa seating is fun for lounging with a margarita in hand and nibbling at guacamole, but if you’re after more of a blow-out dinner, then the cave-like basement is where you’ll want to be. Down there, you'll find moody booths and a huge 20-seater table if your catch-up has snowballed into a five-year reunion." - jake missing, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna, heidi lauth beasley

The 19 Best Restaurants In Chelsea

"Walk past Ixchel—a Mexican spot on the King’s Road—on any evening and you’ll probably get instant fear of missing out. It might be because you hear live music, or you see people holding margaritas on a Monday night while sinking into a plush sofa like they have nowhere to be tomorrow morning. If you’d also like to feel like you’re on holiday, bring some friends and over-order on tacos, quesadillas, and small plates. They’re the best things here, like salmon ceviche paired with soft mango chunks, and yellowfin tuna tostadas with thinly sliced Granny Smith apples." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, rianne shlebak

Ixchel Review - Chelsea - London - The Infatuation

"Walk past Ixchel—a Mexican spot on the King’s Road—on any evening and you’ll probably get instant fear of missing out. It might be because you hear the live music, or you see people holding margaritas on a Monday night while sinking into a plush sofa like they have nowhere to be tomorrow morning. If you’d also like to feel like you’re on holiday, it’s easy. The Tulum-esque room does most of the work for you. On the ground floor it’s all bright shapes painted on the walls, bamboo ceilings, and cacti dotted around. Bring some friends and over-order on tacos, quesadillas, and small plates. They’re the best things here, like salmon ceviche paired with sweet, tangy mango chunks, and yellowfin tuna tostadas with thinly sliced Granny Smith apples. Downstairs is more of a cave-like space. Host a birthday around the huge 14-seater table, or take one of the private-feeling booths lining the edges of the room. It’ll be easy to forget that you’ve got an early start tomorrow. photo credit: Rianne Shlebak photo credit: Ixchel photo credit: Rianne Shlebak photo credit: Rianne Shlebak Food Rundown Scallop Aguachile The fish might change, but any of the cold, raw, citrussy fish dishes in the ‘para picar’ section of the menu should be ordered. photo credit: Rianne Shlebak Ensenada Taco A nice crispy piece of battered white fish is the centre of this excellent taco. It’s hefty while remaining light, crispy while meltingly soft inside, and garnished with pickled vegetables and spicy scotch bonnet cream. One of our favourite things to get at Ixchel. photo credit: Rianne Shlebak Chipotle Creamy Rice This sounded more exciting than it was. Ultimately it’s a paella-like dish with grilled octopus and garlic prawns. We didn’t get much of a chipotle flavour throughout and the flavours in general weren’t as strong as we’d like. Skip the big dishes and load up on the smaller bites. photo credit: Rianne Shlebak Crispy Potatoes We think this dish should be renamed to ‘Crispiest Potatoes’ because these incredibly golden bites were everything you want from a roast potato. Perfectly crunchy coating, with fluffy insides—and a nice salsa verde drizzled on top. Homemade Salsas There are four homemade salsas on the menu and you should get them all. They vary in spice level, from a mild salsa verde to a fiery scotch bonnet salsa. These are great for drizzling over any tacos you get." - Rianne Shlebak

We came here for my birthday and was the perfect atmosphere - we were treated with a complimentary dessert as well / staff were very kind. The star of the show was the beautifully set vibe of the whole restaurant, but the food was equally impressive. The shrimp tacos was my favorite personally and the crab tostadas was my partner’s. We also got a t-bone with a side of potatoes and fresh, warm tortillas which we definitely recommend - meat was very tender, juicy, and seasoned. Has become my favorite Mexican restaurant in London but is a little bit on the pricier side if you’re looking to get a casual bite.

We had such a lovely Sunday lunch at Ixchel. The restaurant itself is stunning, right on King’s Road, with thoughtful design touches everywhere (even the bathrooms are gorgeous!). The food was seriously impressive—everything we ordered was so flavourful and beautifully presented. The fish tacos were a real standout and perfectly balanced. You could tell each dish had been prepared with real care and attention to detail. We also noticed a really lovely private dining space downstairs, which looked ideal for a more intimate celebration. Although the service was a little on the slower side, we honestly didn’t mind. It suited the pace of a long, relaxed lunch, and our servers were genuinely kind and attentive, clearly wanting to make our experience a great one. We finished with the tres leches cake and it was truly exceptional. Will be thinking about it for a long time! Ixchel is such a great find—fantastic food, a beautiful atmosphere, and ideal for a slow, indulgent afternoon with good company. We’ll absolutely be back.

Though the space can get lively, the energy adds to the experience. It creates an atmosphere where you can enjoy a fun, social vibe without it ever becoming overwhelming or uncomfortable. Conversations flow easily, and the overall mood is joyful and relaxed. Whether you’re stopping by for a casual meal, a special occasion, or just looking to try something different, this place delivers on all fronts. With its remarkable food, top-tier service, and inviting ambiance, it leaves a lasting impression. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a truly special dining experience.

Went to Ixchel, a fine dining Mexican restaurant in Chelsea, for my wife’s birthday. Beautiful ambience, very bougie feel, and the service was excellent. That said, the food didn’t quite match the price point. You’re mainly paying for the setting here. The Short Rib was pretty great, but everything else wasn't as memorable. Nice experience overall, but wouldn’t rush back for the food alone.

From the moment we stepped into Restaurant Ixchel, we felt as though we were transported straight to Mexico. The warm welcome from the receptionist set the tone for an unforgettable afternoon. The ambiance was vibrant and inviting, perfectly complementing the authentic experience. A special shoutout to staff who ensured we were taken care of throughout the lunch.Hospitality and attention to detail were unmatched. The food was incredible. A heartfelt thank you to the talented Chef team; every dish was a delight. I particularly loved the prawn and the tataki, but the highlight of the meal was the *Pan cake* dessert—by far the best I’ve ever had. The cocktails were another standout, leaving me absolutely speechless and outstanding drinks I've ever tasted, and their recommendations were perfect. Restaurant Ixchel is a gem where exceptional service, amazing food, and phenomenal drinks. Thank you to the entire team for making this a night to remember!

The food was gorgeous, the staff were lovely and the atmosphere was exactly what you'd want. It was quite loud but not too loud for conversation, just loud enough you didn't feel you were being listened to! Best guacamole I've ever tasted too, would recommend the tres leches, it was perfection.

Booked to celebrate a friends birthday. I was impressed with the decor as soon as I walked in! Also the ambiance was great. The food was average, however the drinks were really good and they had a variety of choices. If you love tequila then I would recommend having drinks here. During our dining experience we were told we needed to leave on 3 separate occasions as they needed the table for the next reservation, highly would have appreciated if they had given us a polite reminder 15 mins before. The process felt so rushed and uncomfortable for us. We were told to go to the bar to finish our dessert and drinks. No one showed us where to sit and was approached by a member of staff telling us that the table was reserved and we needed to move again!!! At that point we felt so unwelcomed and left without finishing our dessert! The unorganised service definitely left a bad impression.

Absolutely gem of a place. The best cocktails, tacos and the desserts were out of this world - the full moon special was the best dessert I’ve ever eaten. Lovey staff, great atmosphere. Fab!!
