World's Scariest Bridges

"Shikoku, the smallest of Japan's four main islands, is home to three vine bridges. The originals were built with slats of wood placed between 8 and 12 inches apart, secured in place with two single vines. While the new bridges are reinforced with wire and hand rails, they're still not for the faint of heart." - Travel + Leisure Editors

There were once 13 vine bridges in the valley. Nowadays there are only 3 and these bridges are opened to visitors to cross. Entrance fee is 550 yen per adult. As buses are infrequent, we booked a taxi from Kazurabashi Taxi that took us there, by contacting them through email. The taxi picked us up from Oboke station, after we arrived from Kochi.

Yelp
This vine bridge is neat to see even if you don't walk across it. You don't see vine bridges commonly anymore, so if you go to the Iya Valley, you certainly should make a point to view one of the vine bridges in the area. Viewing the bridge is free! However, it's close to a 600 yen toll if you want to walk across. I am afraid of heights and probably wouldn't made it to the other side, so I didn't buy a ticket. If you aren't afraid of heights but worried about safety, there appears to be cables in case a vine breaks I guess. Anyway, it doesn't actually appear to be dangerous, but try telling that to my trembling legs when I try to cross it. The fog rolls into the valley in the morning and that combined with the vines, river, and autumn leaves, makes for a view that is absolutely stunning! I would budget in about 20-30 minutes for this into your itinerary with more or less time depending on how many photos you want to take!
