My husband and I booked five nights at Hotel Izla as we were hoping to find a reasonably-priced all-inclusive in Isla Mujeres for our private vacation.
Please read my review carefully so that you will be happy with what you purchase.
In summary, we enjoyed our stay. The hotel is very clean and the staff worked very hard, are very kind, helpful and friendly. The outside bar area was understaffed and the wait for drinks was long and sometimes disappointing (with our wonderful bartender, Adrian working hard to the point he was sweating the whole time he was hustling to get everyone served).
After the manager intervened on our behalf to ensure our expectations were met, our trip became much more enjoyable!
The breakfast buffet is wonderful, however, we would not recommend purchasing the all-inclusive package and although we would definitely consider returning to this hotel, we would not purchase the all-inclusive package next time.
The food and adult beverages, (with the exception of the excellent breakfast buffet and the remarkable onion rings at dinner!) is MEDIOCRE (at very best); to be clear, we would return to this hotel at a discounted rate, but would not purchase the all-inclusive package again.
When we first arrived, it was before our check-in time, however, the staff was very accommodating and welcomed us.
They told us that we would need to purchase any food prior to 3 PM, (which is the when the all-inclusive time becomes active on check in day). They handed us our brochure which detailed that the “all-inclusive” package does not include everything— so be careful if that’s what you’re hoping for (for example, “all-inclusive” does not include room service, nor does it include upgraded alcoholic drinks (Corona name-brand beer, tequila, shots, or some food items).
My husband and I were hungry, and eager to see the beach. The beach is small and quiet, but lovely. It does face the Cancun side so you can see Cancun on the other side of the water. Be aware there are many plants in the beach area… we talked with the manager and told her that we were disappointed about the beach and that we were told there was no seaweed. She explained these were plants and not seaweed. (Still not sure about that after five days there!) Anyway, we were able to wade in the water and saw a couple enjoying the water on floats. (If you’re wanting to truly swim, plan on enjoying one or both of the two swimming pools at the hotel, or going to Central or North Beach (20 min taxi), as both of these beaches are large, breathtakingly beautiful and free of seaweed/plants, although admittedly, much more crowded!)
As it was not yet time for us to check in, we visited the café. Here we ordered an appetizer of calamari and french fries, and ordered the soup of the day, which was some kind of a chicken soup.
The food was not good unfortunately, with the calamari rubbery and overcooked and the soup, bland and questionable. We actually sent the soup back and paid for the calamari and the fries.
We had quite a few conversations with the hotel manager prior to agreeing to check in, but she did everything she could to ensure our stay was pleasurable, which it truly was.
