The 38 Best Berlin Restaurants | Eater

"While a lot of Berlin’s seemingly infinite döner spots offer serviceable kofte, Konak Izmir is a specialist worth seeking out, as many customers do to devour sandwiches from lunch until 3 a.m. The kofte sandwich is a sublime creation of spiced grilled sausages layered with fresh herbs, sauces, onion, and tomato. The bread, a hybrid between Turkish flatbread and a baguette, is a bit thicker here than at comparable places, helping it stand up to the fillings." - Tim Forster

There sandwiches here are amazing and fresh. It seems like they make their own bread in house. All the vegetables are fresh and pre sliced. The area it is located doesn't seem the safest at night. But definitely recommend for the food.

In my opinion, this is just an average Turkish köfte place with nothing particularly special about it. The köftes were quite ordinary, to be honest. I could name at least three other restaurants within 300–500 meters that serve much better köfte. Also, the staff’s attitude towards customers was definitely not good. I think they should be more polite. Even though we specifically asked them not to add extra salt to the bread, they still did, and when we mentioned it, they responded in a rude manner. I believe restaurant staff should be polite and understanding. Otherwise, why would anyone want to come back? I wouldn’t say their köfte was terrible, but it definitely wasn’t impressive either. There are much better places in Berlin, even just within Kreuzberg, there are several far better options.

While walking around Berlin and sampling local cuisine, we stumbled upon a small restaurant. We ordered the XXL plate, and the portion was so generous it could easily feed two adults and a child. Having tried köfte in Istanbul, I can confidently say this one tasted even better. It was incredibly delicious, and we decided to take some with us for our drive out of Berlin. The customer service was excellent as well. I highly recommend this place—you get great value for your money.

It is an okay sandwich. Nothing impressive, it was very dry and does not have that much content inside for the price they are selling it. Not bad but wouldn’t recommend coming back.

The kofte im brot is one of the best things I've eaten in Berlin, better than the gemuse kebabs. The bread is hot, the kofte are fresh and the spicy hit makes this sandwich an excellent all in one meal. The service isn't the friendliest. They take card payments.

All I can is I just want another sandwich from Konak Grill but I guess I will have to wait for my next visit. Get the combo sandwich, you wont be disappointed

During my recent visit to Izmir Kofte, a local sandwich shop, I had the opportunity to try their kofte sandwich. While the experience was decent overall, I found it to be an average sandwich that didn't quite stand out from others I've had. In this review, I'll share my honest assessment of the Izmir Kofte sandwich. Flavor and Ingredients: The kofte, or meatball, in the sandwich was seasoned adequately but lacked a distinctive flavor that would have made it memorable. The meat was reasonably tender and cooked through, but it didn't have that wow factor that elevates a sandwich to the next level. The toppings, including lettuce, tomato, onion, and a sauce, were fresh and provided a refreshing contrast to the meat. However, they didn't contribute anything particularly unique or exceptional to the overall taste. Bread and Presentation: The bread used for the sandwich was average. It had a standard texture and flavor, neither particularly outstanding nor disappointing. It served its purpose of holding the ingredients together but didn't add any extra dimension to the overall experience. As for the presentation, the sandwich was neatly assembled, but it lacked that visual appeal that can make a dish more enticing. Portion Size and Value for Money: The portion size of the Izmir Kofte sandwich was decent, providing a satisfying meal. Considering the price, it offered reasonable value for money, but it didn't feel like a standout in terms of the quality and taste compared to similar sandwiches available in the area. Service and Atmosphere: The atmosphere in the shop was casual and laid-back, suitable for a quick and casual meal. Conclusion: In conclusion, while the Izmir Kofte sandwich at Izmir Kofte provided a satisfactory meal, it didn't leave a lasting impression. The flavors were average, the bread was standard, and the overall experience was not particularly memorable. However, if you're in the mood for a quick and decent sandwich option, Izmir Kofte may still be worth considering. Note: This review is based on my personal experience and opinion during my visit to Izmir Kofte. Tastes and preferences may vary, and it's always recommended to try it yourself to form your own judgment.

Yelp
This place is the best. A bit hole in the wall, but they have reconstructed it since covid. I would highly recommend their kofte sandwich. Quick, easy food. Nice patrons

Yelp
4/5 for the food and 2/5 for the service / politeness / vibes, so let's meet in the middle with 3 stars overall. It's a pretty standard köfte and halloumi fast food menu that you'll find most Turkish places in Berlin, but the spices and meat quality are particularly solid here. I just wish the staff behind the counter didn't scowl at the guests constantly and throw down the utensils in disgust, for no reason in particular. Sort of kills any good mood that might've been had from the taste of the food.

Yelp
Came here after reading about the sandwich (first one on the menu) in Berlin food stories. The sandwich was solid, but with many great options here didn't repeat. Take cash.

Yelp
Very good kofte sandwich, but it seems that they could have added some extra salty ingredients to give more flavour. 4€ for the normal sandwich. The portion is large

Yelp
This place was great for a quick meal before a night out around Kottbusser Tor. The sis kofte (skewered meatball strips) and crusty bread were excellent, as were the big plates of fresh salad. Atmosphere was loud and crowded on a Friday night with fast counter service. When trying to find the place, note that the main sign out front says Izmir Koftecisi.

Yelp
So if you are around Kotti, and you don't want to eat another donner go konak grill! You will find a selection of kofte and the great kofte sandwich really famous in ismir. The meat is great and the combination of the vegetables inside the sandwich makes it a very good choice of you are hungry around midnight :)

Yelp
Good kofte, decent portion for the price, meatballs are very tasty and juicy, and gemuse has a picant touch. Also, pay attention to the tasty hot sauce, yummy.

Yelp
If you are hungy around the "Kotti" area, you will find the food yummy....but in comparison to the other cool grill shops in the area, it is average....if not below.....And the prices are not fair either. Good thing to mention here: the staff is really friendly and quick.

Yelp
I heard somewhere along the lines of my trip to Berlin that the city special is a Döner Sandwich. After asking around and browsing Yelp, I came across Konak Grill in Kreuzberg with the hopes of trying one. Unfortunately, Konak doesn't serve Döner so don't be under the illusion that every Turkish restaurant in Kreuzberg will serve it. However, don't also be fooled by any inclination that this review is negative, because it's not, I LOVED Konak Grill. From the minute you walk in, you feel like you've encountered a true Berlin restaurant, something slightly off the beaten path that's not made for tourists. The place feels as if its got a strong connection with many families in the neighborhood as the staff is constantly coming out from behind the counter to hug various customers with little kids. Despite my friends and I not being family, let alone Turkish or German, the people at Konak grill treated us just as if we were. They made jokes, gave us recommendations, and even fixed us a makeshift table as all others were occupied at the time. Furthermore, if the service isn't enough to show how great this place is, the food will surely prove so. I ordered köfte sandwich, and was blown away by it. The quality of the meat is noticeable as you can see them grill it right in front of you. But perhaps the most impressive element of my lunch was the fresh veggies and sauces for the sandwich. Even though the array of accoutrements is small, the herbs, carrots, onion, jicama (I think), and the two yogurt sauces add so much flavor and really make the sandwich unforgettable. In fact, I'm writing this review 2 months after and I still remember almost everything about it. Highly recommend this place for an informal meal, perhaps the best place I went all trip!

Yelp
Amazing Hallumi and kaziki sandwiches. All very tasty and fresh. You can't go wrong in Izmir's.

Yelp
Great place for kofte! fresh and delicious turkish food other than the infamous doner

Peter C.

Yelp
A great place for köfte. The sandwiches are pretty large for 4 euros. All the vegetables tasted fresh and the added salt and spice powder gave a great flavor that most other places do not have.
