"Izumi, a sushi restaurant owned by Lynn Rinaldi and her former husband Corey Baver, was shut down in late April after 10 years on East Passyunk. A BYOB called River Twice is opening in its place. Rinaldi mentioned that they closed Izumi because of an opportunity for another major project." - Audrey Carleton

Excellent sushi and sashimi!! It was only one waiter so you seemed really busy. It didn't bother us as we were just having a chill relaxed time out.

It's a very quaint little BYOB- I would say good for date night or a small group. The menu selection is extremely limited and the portions are pretty small in comparison to other sushi restaurants we've loved. Two key takeaways ...if you make your reservation on OpenTable later in the evening, be sure to call and find out what time the kitchen closes. Their website seems to be down and their OpenTable profile is not accurate. We made reservations for 9:30 p.m. and immediately felt rushed after arriving as we were told the kitchen was closing at 10:00 p.m. We ordered quickly, and since we were there for our anniversary, the server did bring us a complimentary dessert with a candle, which was extremely thoughtful. What was surprising, and disappointing to hear, the table beside us just finishing their dinner had expressed interest in dessert and the server responded "Sorry, the kitchen is now closed" since it was exactly 10:00 p.m. I find that pretty unprofessional on management's part to turn down customers already dining. Additionally, they should not allow reservations past a certain time to be made in order for customers not to feel rushed once they arrive. The food and presentation were good, but the overall experience and value were pretty disappointing and not ones that would have us rushing back to this particular restaurant. Also- parking is extremely difficult. Their google page mentions valet, however, there was no valet option, only street parking. You might want to give yourself an additional 20-30 minutes on a weekend to find street parking or a parking garage less than a mile walking distance.

This is an Americanized Sushi experience. The menu seemed to cater to those with less sushi experience having lots of "chief's choice" options. The place is BYOB and almost every table had a bottle of wine rather than sake. I'm not negatively reviewing this place for its Americanized experience, but for the service and food. The waiting staff seemed very overwhelmed. It also was hardly a relaxing environment. Granted it was Friday, but I had waiters and customers running past me through out my dinner and about every 10 min, someone would bump into my table. The fish was below par. I don't have a very high standard for sushi in Philadelphia but I left with an unpleasant fishy taste in my mouth. Overall, if you're looking for a beginners sushi experience at a reasonable price, this isn't a bad choice. However, I wouldn't recommend it to those looking for a higher end sushi experience.

My husband made a reservation here for our anniversary. When we arrived, we were seated right by the door. After requesting a different table in a quieter corner, we were told we could sit by the door or outside. We didn't make a fuss, just headed out, since we wanted our anniversary dinner to be distraction free and perfect. We didn't think it was a big deal at all and probably would have eaten there a different time, except as we were standing outside, the chef came out an harassed us, calling us names, saying we were entitled, etc. Well, I guess I am entitled to a perfect anniversary dinner, no thanks to the unprofessional staff here.

Ever since my husband and I stumbled upon this little gem last year, I can't bring myself to go anywhere else for sushi/asian fusion. Not only are the sushi rolls inventive and delicious but the beef short ribs are OUT OF THIS WORLD! (who knew) My entire family requests this place whenever they're in town and the food is always consistently amazing!!!

I was a little unimpressed when I went here but I'll definitely give it another try someday. The prepared dishes seemed a little small for the price (the $14 scallop dish had one scallop, one mushroom cut in four, and two cherry tomatoes cut in half), and the rolls were a big and 'good enough' but just not great. Service was good, and maybe the food was just a little off because I was there later.

The space is kind of small but I always go during the week so idk if it gets crowded. We went a couple of times and the waiter was always on top of it and extremely courteous. The food is great (not a traditional sushi but still amazing, try the shrimp tempura with wasabi aioli!)

Food is mostly good, but servers seemed overwhelmed. Best dish was the seared scallops on a crepe. The monster maki roll with tempura shrimp and soft shelled crab was a popular choice, but was overly large and unwieldy to eat with chopsticks, or even bare hands.
