The 22 Best Restaurants in Cork, Ireland - Eater

"A couple of years ago, Palestinian couple Izz and Eman Alkerajah and their children were entangled in Ireland’s asylum-seeker system when they began selling Eman’s traditional recipes from a tiny farmer’s market stall. Success was immediate and — asylum status now granted and full Irish citizenship in the pipeline — a year later they established a brick-and-mortar presence in Cork city, centered around their menu of manaeesh, or Palestinian flatbreads. Try the version with chicken, sweet braised red onions, and pine nuts, with sumac and olive oil for seasoning. The mixed plate of dips, pickles, and tabbouleh is highly recommended, in particular for the makdous, a baby aubergine that’s steamed, then stuffed with walnuts, garlic, and chile and left to “pickle” in olive oil for up to two weeks. Eman’s exquisite desserts range from traditional warbat — syrup-drenched phyllo filled with custard — to the utterly nontraditional cinnamon roll. [$]" - Joe McNamee

I had lunch at Izz Cafe and the food was delicious. I started with the tasters mix — a flavorful appetizer that is perfect for sharing (up to 4 people maybe). It had a nice variety of spreads, specially the Babaganoush and beetroot hummus, with rich flavors and tasted great when paired with the restaurant's fresh and soft bread. I ordered the Magloubeh for the main dish and it had a nice mix of ingredients and spices. The portion was also decent. I recommend making a reservation in advance to avoid waiting times, which can be long, because the place is usually full.

Amazing array of authentic food. The decor and interior design is inspiring. It hasnt got a liquor license, which is important to bear in mind. The platter for three easily fed five of us.

Izz Café offers a fantastic introduction to authentic Palestinian cuisine. Their picnic box is a great option for first-timers—it includes a delicious selection of manaeesh, hummus, and drinks, making it easy to sample a variety of flavours. We also tried the Palestinian coffee, which was absolutely delightful. It’s a place we’ll definitely keep coming back to!

Had a lovely and relaxing Friday night dinner. We arrived 30 mins early for our booking and staff accommodated us with kindness. Had a lovely meal and the service was excellent, really friendly and helpful staff. Menus really easy to understand for people new to the food too. An absolutely great restaurant, so cosy and family vibe but great for dates. The food was delicious especially the dessert and the Palestinian coffee was excellent. Got some coated dates for the trip home in nice gift box too. Definitely will come back when in Cork.

For the last two years, I've been protesting on behalf of, and donating to, Palestinian families in Gaza. I've been made aware of Ireland's remarkable commitment to Palestine during that time. When I found out about your café I immediately added it to my family's itinerary for our Ireland visit this summer. My Mother, Father, and I visited your café for dinner this evening at my urging. I am thrilled to say this lived up to the hype. We thoroughly enjoyed the Taster's Plate, Chicken Mousaken, and Beef lamb. The Palestinian coffee was exceptional. We especially loved the Warbat. So sweet and flaky. You lived up to the hype! I wish you all the best. It was a real pleasure.

Went there last Sunday for Brunch. Food was excellent and very tasty I've tried the chicken and my partner as a vegetarian had a great selection too. Very cosy and enjoyable experience since it was my first time back in a long while. I'll be back :)

Yelp
I met my husband in Cork City & we came across Izz Cafe & I am so glad we came here and try it out. The food was AMAZING & the staff are friendly, I'm looking forward to going back again. The only thing I will complain about is that there were a group of people there also and they were very loud, which we didn't enjoy, but we weren't there for too long with them. I would highly recommend trying out Izz Cafe if you're ever in Cork

Yelp
My mom and I came here and it was such a cute cafe with a huge menu for vegetarians which was nice! we got a falafel flatbread, zataar and cheese, and a hummus. And grabbed a coffee cake on the way out which was delicious 5/5!!! The falafel flatbread was TRULY AMAZING!! 5/5! It was well balanced, saucy, perfectly flavored, and really just spectacular. This was my favorite dish! The zataar and cheese was underwhelming. It wasn't seasoned enough - felt like it needed salt or some sauce or something. And ended up dry. Couldn't finish this. The hummus was yummy as always :) We also ordered way too much! For two people I'd recommend choosing one flatbread and sharing. Portions are very generous. Overall lovely spot in Cork! So happy I got to try it.

Yelp
Best food we had in cork hands down. Really, some of the best food I've ever had. The cinnamon roll was like the center bite but every bite. The taster sampler was incredible, and the musakhan rolls were great as well. Make time and make a stop

Yelp
Izz cafe makes the most amazing maneesh! I have lived in UAE for 15 years and never came across better, more authentic Middle Eastern food! Give their musakhan and meat and lamb manaeesh a try! They will never disappoint you. Best and most consistent cafe in town

Yelp
This place is amazing! Make a reservation, pop in, order take out, whatever, but go. The food is absolutely wonderful. One of the two best restaurants I have ever been in serving this kind of food outside of its native land. These folks clearly know what they're doing. High quality, super yummy, authentic food at an incredibly reasonable price. We ordered a few 'small plates' to sample - - it was delicious and enough food for a week! Plus, the people are friendly, kind, and welcoming and the place is cosy and clean. Vegan and vegetarian options too. Go! You won't regret it.

Yelp
This place is excellent- try the sampler platter and the mint tea. Friendly service and the food is fresh and delicious. If you're anywhere in or near Cork city it's worth seeking this place out. Cork needs more places like this!

Yelp
This place is FANTASTIC. We were looking for somewhere to grab take away after a long day in the city, and this was a hidden gem. It's located right near the city center, which makes it easy to get to from anywhere. The staff were all super friendly, the restaurant has a nice atmosphere, and their website is easy to follow. But to the most important part, the food. WOW. I've never had Palestinian food, so I was excited to try it, and it was probably the best meal we ate while in town. I highly recommend doing the sampling tray so you can try a selection of things. We ordered a few of the manaeesh (chicken, halloumi, cheese, and zaatar), some classic hummus, tabouleh, and avocado hummus. Fantastic meal and I can not express how great this was. Reasonable prices for the quality and quantity! If I'm ever on holiday again in the area, it is a definite visit!
