Before you get hypnotized by the bad reviews, hear me out. I have three things I want you to consider:
1. Beer....lots of beer
2. Pizza....lots of pizza
3. Cheese curds....deep fried....trust me
Now that we got that out of the way, let me give you my view on Herndon's newest hot spot.
This past Friday, my wife and i decided to get out of the house and try out Izzi. We are normally patrons of the Breeze or Jimmy's, but decided it was time to branch out. We had no issue finding a table, even though the place was hopping. There are no waiters, in the traditional sense. Instead, each table has its own QR code that you do all of your ordering and payment through. I was skeptical when I started, but became a fan very quickly.
For our appetizer, we went with the fried cheese curds. This falls far outside our nutritional comfort zone, but hey...why not? They were amazing. Hot, crispy and accompanied with a dipping sauce that tasted similar to a remoulade sauce. We at every last curd. No curd was left unturned, no curd was left undipped and no curd was left uneaten.
Next up was the pizza. We went with the 16in pepperoni pizza that includes ricotta, along with mozzarella cheese. The crust has a sourdough tang that made both of us very happy. It also has a nice swirl of hot honey that gave the pizza a sweet and spicy kick, but not so much that it takes away from the rest of the pie. We ate the whole pie. No regrets. Thanks goes out to all of those hardworking bees that made our pie possible.
There are so many things to try, and that doesn't include the long list of Aslin beer. We will be back to try the sandwiches, salads and sides. The service is quick and pleasant, they keep everything spotless and the open air dining room is really nice. You can enjoy eating outside without having to worry about the weather.
On a separate note, they are open in the morning for coffee/breakfast. Given the increase in prices at Weird Brothers, Izzi is an excellent alternative. Their coffee is as good, if not better, than Weird Brothers. Stop and try it for yourself!
Anyhow, I am giving Izzi five stars. It is a refreshing addition to the downtown Herndon dining scene. Good food, fair prices and a really nice place to kick back and relax.
