Google
The bagel is very decent. But the entire order was wrong. I asked for honey walnut and got plain cream cheese. I asked for lox special and I got no salmon in the bagel. Just unbelievable. I paid $15 for it. What a rip off. Pls do a better job.

Google
Best kosher deli & bagels in the peninsula. They’re up there with the best of SF like Laundromat, Daily Driver & Toscano Bros. Chewy and flavorful with the perfect crunch. Best rugulah in memory the cinnamon are A+++. Excellent schmear variety and very good sandwiches.

Fake reviews Worst bagel place I’ve been to. Customer service is non existent and make sure you’re a Jew so you can get served here Raciest establishment Update: Ignore my review and go read others reviews 🤣 if I’m making accusations per owners response because I had such a great experience. Your protien wrap is soggy af - check others reviews Your customers service is bad - again check others reviews You don’t treat everyone equally- again check others reviews But sure I’m making accusations lmao

Google
Great bagel place, they serve quality bagels. We tried everything bagel, one with cream cheese and other with egg & cheese. I must say the bagels were soft and amazing in taste, we also tried cappuccino and their regular coffee and it was good. Their prices are reasonable and the service is quick. They have variety of bakery items but not a single gluten free option. Last, personally I felt that the welcoming nature towards the guests was missing, for someone coming in for the first time, they could suggest some options to try. Although, the bagels were great in taste, definitely coming back.

I'm an east coast transplant, born in NYC and this place is so nostalgic! Yummy bagels! Rare to find in California! Love the vegan options too! What a little gem! Chef's kiss!

Google
Decent meal, but also kind of disappointing. Bagel was fairly dense and barely warm. The outside had a bit of a crunch, but I kind of wanted a bit more. The cream cheese was decent and they didn't skimp out on spreading that stuff. For the price, it's an ok way to start the day, but probably a once in month sort of deal.

Google
NY style Bagels day at Izzy's bagel.. The bagels by itself were good (we had everything, multi seed and sesame bagels with raw red onions), but the cream cheese lacked flavor. We went with high hopes but the place didn't hit the mark. The vegetable cream cheese in particular had a very gritty taste. The cucumber scallion cream cheese was my favorite. We also tried the jalapeno and chive cream cheese. They no longer sell roasted red pepper cream cheese. Might try again just to confirm. Disappointed customer 😔😔. Service was decent but what would you expect from a NY style bagel place.. have to be quick even in California 😬😬 time is money.

Google
Very friendly staff! I work near the area, and always have a great experience every time I go there. Gigi is absolutely fantastic! She was taking orders and doing the best she could before the other staff arrived. Recommend to anyone who wants excellent service and delicious bagels!

Yelp
I don't understand all the negativity here. I can only speculate that a solid Eastcoast experience is lost on some. Alas... Izzy's being a longtime resident of California Avenue, starts early to churn out freshly baked bagels by the dozens (pun intended), freshly churned cream cheese, plus sandwiches, and other pastries. They definitely put love and tenured experience into their business. My most favorite bagel is the Cheddar Jalapeño. Perfect amount of cheesy goodness and spicy jalapeños. They only make a select number per day, so I have to get there early side to enjoy, and sometimes even then I'm too late of a bird. Second go to is the Everything - sesame, poppy, garlic, onion, salt. Totally up there on the yum factometer. Have a few mouths to feed? Budget friendly tip - they offer baked the before pastries at a discount if you need to feed the masses. What a deal! Support small business and stop by Izzy's for your carbohydrate needs! If you're in a rush, they have a new order ahead system via touch pad outside to pop in your order as well.

Yelp
first time having bagels from here! i got a pizza bagel which was just tomato sauce slathered on a bagel! it was ok but for the price, maybe they could add some meat? my girlfriend got the salmon bagel and there was so much cream cheese on there! service was ok and ambiance is a grab and go cafe with seats!

Tiffany T.

Yelp
Quite a crowd when I went. You order at the kiosk, and pickup time after that is not too slow. I got the blueberry bagel with strawberry cream cheese. Everything about it was just right - sufficiently satisfies my cravings for a new york style bagel!

Christopher B.

Yelp
Izzy's never disappoints. Was in the area for an early morning football match at Mayfield. There isn't much open that early on a Saturday, but when you're hungry for a bagel sandwich THIS is the spot! They've added touchscreens outside for convenience, but I still like going up to the counter. The staff is usually polite, but sometimes there are folx who have their head down even though they are working by the register. On this day, it was the youngest person working in the front of house who greeted me and told me they'd take my order as soon as they could. Izzy's has great lox, so it's my go-to when I'm there. The fresh onions and capers cut nicely against the cream cheese... and of course, it's all on a toasted everything!

Davina H.

Yelp
Last time I had been to Izzy's was approximately two years ago. I had loved my bagels and was satisfied with my order in the past. This time around, that was not the case. I had decided to purchase half a dozen bagels for me and my two other coworkers. The order was 4 cinnamon raisin and 2 jalapeño bagels. These bagels did not satisfy our bagel cravings and left us extremely disappointed. Both types of bagels lacked flavor. The bits of jalapenos and bit of raisins were so scarce, it seemed as if they had ran out of ingredients while making the bagels. While consuming his bagel, my coworker also stated that his strawberry cream cheese tasted like it had hints of onion flavor. The last item I had ordered was a delicious looking iced vanilla latte. If looks could be deceiving was a drink, this iced coffee would be it. The iced coffee lacked flavor all around. The coffee was extremely light and almost watered down. It had half and half and zero sweetness. I had so much hope that the iced coffee would come to rescue the day but instead it put the nail in the coffin.

Yelp
Not bad just not good Bar is a bit higher cus I am used to actual New York bagels. Tried their lox special which had all the traditional elements. The amount of salmon was a big meager and not the best quality. Too much cream cheese. And their bagels were too chewy for me.

Jocelyn S.

Yelp
I got the lox special on a toasted everything bagel which had cream cheese and lox, and I added capes and red onion. It was +$0.55 per veggie add-on and came out to about $13. They also have some day-old discounted pastries. I got a mini apple turnover day-old for $1.50. There's a good amount of seating and some with outlets. Free wi-fi! Service is quick, no complaints.

Frances M.

Yelp
Delicious and highly recommend. The Lox gourmet comes on a bagel of your choice, cream cheese, tomato, cucumber and red onions with capers. Doesn't get any better than here. I also bought a black and white cookie which was an added treat. Worth every penny I spent on Christmas Day.

Yelp
People working here are really nice and attentive - I love the Jalapeno bagel - they do have a vegan blueberry scone and if you get day old than it's really a great deal. Plain bagel is good - was a bit disappointed with the sun dried tomato option though. Beware that they charge 10 cents to cut a bagel for you - which I have never seen anywhere else.

Jim K.

Yelp
Well after my previous experience a few years ago I tried again. I got three bagels, none burned fortunately but the crust is not near what it used to be. Are the bagels still boiled ??? They're not chewy at all...Right now I'll still look elsewhere...these used to be outstanding though....

Alayna K.

Yelp
Pretty decent bagels! I would get the walnut cream cheese again, this one was the best. The chives cream cheese was also pretty standard. The bagels are good for the area, the outside was crispy but the inside could use a little bit more of a doughy texture.

Sophie C.

Yelp
Got half dozen day old, egg salad container and chive cream cheese to go. The half dozen is a great deal. You don't know what you'll get but beggars can't be choosers. Bagels can and will freeze well. In fact I think it was better after freezing and popped in toaster oven on the bagel setting on medium. And in egg salad or topping of your choice when there's about 45 seconds left on the timer and it'll taste like just from the deli! This time it was 4x rye pumpernickel and 2 sesame. I was okay with all of their flavors and not allergic so took a gamble. I'll do this again and it's def better than your supermarket or Costco bagels!

Karen L.

Yelp
Fav bagel spot! Was recommended by a friend and I understand why it's also her favorite bagel place. I love stopping here after the PA farmers market. The wait gets pretty long when they're busy, but well worth it!

Ricardo C.

Yelp
Such a nice place to come andget a bite to eat...the bagels are fresh and tasty...if you're in the area, I highly recommend stopping and getting a bagel... The staff is friendly and polite....You won't be disappointed...

Eric M.

Yelp
Horrible pick up experience. Standing there for at least 10 minutes while my phone order is just sitting there on the counter. Staff couldn't be bothered to hand me my order until they took care of the long line of people waiting to place orders. What's the whole point of ordering ahead. They are so rude on top of that.

Kirit S.

Yelp
Instead of a bagel, I had an avocado toast for $10. It wasn't worth $10, since it was on very average bread and was pretty small to begin with. The place always has lines, so it wasn't the easiest, but the staff was friendly and helpful. But, remember, if you want your bagel toasted, it costs more than if you just get it not toasted. Also, if you pick the bagel up, and then go back to ask them to slice it, they won't touch it, as it wouldn't be kosher. The decor is like a Noah's Bagels, and not particularly interesting. The parking lot is half a block away.

David P.

Yelp
Not the bagelry of my "yoot" as Pesci would say. I just stopped off to pick up a half dozen bagels. I had to use the iPad ordering system outside in line with others ordering to eat in or take out. I can't complain about the system per say, but they never called my name or number. Eventually waited inside near to go counter to wait to be called. Other orders were up, called out and picked up but not mine. Apparently it was filled immediately, but left to the side of the counter. Eventually a manager said he would look for and then found my bag. How would I know?

John B.

Yelp
Their bagels are good as they should be, but my experience with their other baked goods, not so much. Ordered a chocolate chip muffin for my daughter, and besides being small it's obviously pre-packaged and not made there. Definitely not worth $5.

Milan F.

Yelp
love your bagels always. not sure what happened this time I found a dark hair in my bagel Thank you for your response, how do I contact you?

Andrea B.

Yelp
It feels like Izzy's has been around for 100 years, and they have a passionate customer base, which means they're busy, busy busy. The bagels are NY Style, with properly developed dough, so the texture, chew, and flavor are very satisfying. (Most other bagel shops in the Bay Area taste like bland dinner rolls.) I would not come here if I could not order online or at the kiosk, because it's way too chaotic with all the people. (however, their online ordering leaves a lot to be desired.) the shop is small and crowded with happy customers. It's a real experience eating here.

Cherylynn N.

Yelp
"Most Palo Altans couldn't tell a good bagel from a doughnut." *Spits my tea across the room* On snap! The shade... Hey, it didn't come from me! I read this comment on a post re: Boichik Bagel's opening in PA (NYT says, it's the "best bagel in the country") and naturally, people brought up Izzy's Brooklyn Bagels, a longtime staple in PA. So, after trying the newly opened Boichik Bagel in PA, I had to try Izzy's for comparison. I can't vouch for NY authenticity because I'm from SF but I liked Izzy's bagels more than Boichik (hella overhyped). To share, we ordered a Lox Sesame Bagel, toasted w/ red onion, open-faced ($13.50): https://tinyurl.com/a9wn4zc9. The sesame bagel was nicely toasted with a crispy, slightly crackly crust. Good density with a satisfying chew. Plenty of sesame seeds that didn't fall off like Boichik, adding a delicious roasty nuttiness. So why 3 stars? Izzy's lox is meh; dry and not the best quality. Paid extra ~$3 for open-faced, and there wasn't enough to cover the surface of one of the halves. Boichik has much better quality lox: silky smooth and buttery. And, Izzy's cream cheese was mediocre. Maybe they accidentally gave us the low fat one but it was lacking in rich creaminess and they don't give a generous "NY" portion of cream cheese, at least not on our bagel. Boichik's pink label [whipped] cream cheese is deliciously rich and creamy, and they don't skimp. Finally, the service at Izzy's... I usually can overlook service issues with COVID and I don't expect sunshine, rainbows, and confetti but negative vibes is another thing. I guess it wasn't acceptable for customers to say, "Hi, how are you?" and "Thank you, have a good day!" to the female cashier. Overall, buy bagels at Izzy's then to go Boichik to buy lox and pink label cream cheese. Then, go home to BYO lox bagel. Boom. Enjoy! Other notes: * All staff wore masks. * Open for takeout, delivery, indoor dining, and dog-friendly outdoor dining (California street is closed to traffic/cars). * Contactless ordering (online or kiosk) or in-person ordering. Too bad both kiosks were down so I had to order from the cashier. * I appreciate the intercom so I can hear my number while waiting outside. * With no line on a weekday morning around 9:30 AM, our lox bagel was ready in less than 5 minutes. * Free parking in back lot (entrance is on Sherman Ave.)

Kevin P.

Yelp
Parking can be found in the back, lots of it. Don't try to park on the streets as it get busy. Had their sun fried bagel, extremely fresh and warm. 5/5 The salmon had a very odd dark red tint to it, never seen salmon that dark - ever. Salmon gets 3/5, didn't taste too fresh but there was a decent amount. There were ALOT of cream cheese, if you love that - this is the spot. Personally, I had to remove some. But they do not cheap out! Although it was good, it's not New York good. It's california bagel good.

Annie K.

Yelp
My whole experience was contrary to alot of the reviews i read on yelp. Sat mornings are pretty bustling when we arrived around 10 am. But the line wasn't excruciating with only one group ahead of us. Opted out of ordering from the kiosks outside bc of a review i read that said it would take longer. The lady taking our order was friendly and patient. I ordered the lox special with tomato basil bagel and low fat cream cheese and a jalapeño bagel with sun dried tomato cream cheese. We sat outside while we waited as the interior was pretty full, they didnt call our name or number tho so after awhile we had to go in and the bagels were just sitting there. The bagels were soo good. My fav was the lox special. The bagels are crispy chewy and fluffy at the same time, with plenty of cream cheese and smoked salmon. I didn't enjoy the sun dried tomato cream cheese as much. It looked like regular cream cheese was mixed with some sundried tomatoes.. different than how it usually looks and tastes from other bagel places. Overall the bagel was delicious and i would def recommend to check out.

L K.

Yelp
Best bagels in the bay. The service is amazing. The inside is clean and there is a good amount of seating inside and outside. I cannot find a place in the bay area that comes close to Izzy's. 10/10.

Sarah X.

Yelp
Ordered a bakers dozen for a little friends' bagel brunch and wow... these truly exceeded my expectations! better (and cheaper) than boichik and quite a few ny bagels I've tried, would definitely come again to try their sandwiches.

Samuel C.

Yelp
Mediocre bagel sandwich and lukewarm coffee for over $20. Will probably try this again for a quick bite at some point, but really was not impressed by my first visit so it's far from a priority spot for me. Service was good and the location on California ave is nice.

Lynae N.

Yelp
I have had the pleasure to work with Izzy's a couple of times in the past 6 months. Since I work with a Jewish non-profit, we need to make sure the food is Kosher. Add on top of that the dietary requirements of multiple people and it can be a mess. The staff at Izzy's works with me to solve those problems. They have been able to modify dishes to fit our requirements while providing fresh and delicious meals to the group. We look forward to using them again. Give them a try!

Marc R.

Yelp
Not true. There is no handwashing sink anywhere in the area that customers are allowed. As the response from the company states (with innuendo referencing the holocaust) the customer has to go into the same dangerous area with hot ovens and racks labeled employees only beyond that point. So again, it's at the gatekeeper's discrimination who can use the bathroom or any other sink for handwashing.

Ashley M.

Yelp
Was in the area for the farmer's market and had been wanting to try their bagels for a while. Disclosure: born and bred New Yorker here so I usually get a non toasted bagel with schmear as first order at a new bagel joint to rate the quality. Got the whole wheat everything with lox spread. Bagel was good consistency- chewy interior and firm exterior. Good seasoning of everything. Lox spread was decent- minimal chunks of lox like other lox schmears I've had. Interior of cafe was very warm given the 90 degree weather outside and their ovens so we stood outside in the shade. Ordering was easy enough and wait wasn't an issue. Would come again if really had the craving and in the area.

Cecile B.

Yelp
I came here on New Year's Eve fifteen minutes before closing, and ordered a LOX SPECIAL ($8.15) combo bagel with smoked wild salmon trims and cream cheese. The combo (aka everything) bagel was crunchy and not too dense, the lox tasted fresh, and the cream cheese ratio worked well for me. I also tried the multiseed bagel, which tasted similar, and the egg bagel, which tasted a bit doughier. I ordered on the screens outside, and my bagel was ready within five minutes. Also, because they were closing, the staff gave out leftover bags of bagels and a cherry turnover, which was just alright but much appreciated. From trying out some of their other items, I'd recommend sticking to the bagels.

Koyel B.

Yelp
The bagels are ok but no better than a decent supermarket bagel. The lox is a weird texture, really grainy. Also, their business practices are deceptive: the ordering system outside the door charges more than if you order inside.

Lauren S.

Yelp
The food was SO good! & the service was quick! We ordered at the outside kiosk and within minutes my husband and I had gotten our order. You can smell the bagels from a distance. It's a small place but with big flavors. I'm happy to come back again. This hit the spot. I ordered an onion bagel with egg and added cheddar cheese & chive cream cheese and my husband got the Packman and then ordered a second one after he ate the first. You can eat inside or there are some tables outside. Definitely come by Izzy's!

Marco H.

Yelp
The service is hopeless when it comes to providing a simple, accurate pick up time. Waiting 20mins past your 'pick up' time is common, even for 6 bagels in a bag and a cream cheese container. They work hard, but I have no idea how one can wrongly predict the time it takes to put 7 items in a bag.. Boychik is a better alternative

Steven O.

Yelp
Came here during an early lunch break and got a Bialy with lox cream cheese. They have a wide variety of items so I'll try more bagels in the future I'm sure. The bialy was delicious but I realized it came with not just onions but also olives which I don't like. Overall you get exactly what you expect.

Erica G.

Yelp
We have been to Izzy's dozens of times over the last 15+ years when we visit Palo Alto. We have eaten there, used Izzy's for catering, takeout, invited friends to join us, etc. Our most recent visit-on May 30th (2024) gave us pause. Here's why: Izzy's used to offer up large bagels, with generous slathers of 'shmears' or whitefish spread. While we've paid the increasing prices over the years and understood that a kosher establishment has higher costs, we at least received adequate portions. This last time we purchased muffins for breakfast and bagels for lunch. The muffins were small and expensive, and the downsized bagels had barely enough spread to cover one side of the bagel. The bill was $28.00. It was not enough food for either meal. We feel taken advantage of. There are limited kosher options in the Palo Alto area, so Izzy's has a captive consumer base. We are willing to pay more, but it is not right that, at the same time, the portions are skimpy. I hope the owners will take this to heart and decide to take better care of their costumers going forward.

Alix R.

Yelp
The east coast transplant (plus her Brooklyn-born partner) HAD to just come through to a place that had "Brooklyn Bagels" in the name. We actually stumbled upon this place when we were trying to get into brunch at another restaurant down the street (I don't usually mind waiting for ~schmancy brunch~ but we had to make our meal quick). There were ordering stations outside (two in total), but BOTH were broken lol. We ended up ordering inside which honestly was nicer because I was able to see the menu and all that they had to offer right in front of me. Nothing beats ordering from a HUMAN anyway lol. Ordered a lox gourmet on an everything bagel. It SURE did hit the spot. I like the twist on a regular lox bagel (had some tomato and cucumber). It was extremely filling, which I was surprised about because I'm usually craving a LOT more food after a bagel sandwich. The interior is really cute; they have New York memorabilia everywhere (we love a good old school New Yorker cover). I miss home tremendously, so there was for sure the nostalgia factor.

Niki D.

Yelp
The most New York thing about this place is the attitude. Order is often wrong, nickel and dime for any extra butter, 3% service charge for credit card orders (even if it is over $10). Definitely an owner issue, not the workers. But I still come for a workday bagel.

Jonathan B.

Yelp
Are they authentic NY bagels? Sort of Are they the best bagels on the peninsula? Likely Can you get a wide variety of bagels, smear, and platters? Definitely Izzy's is almost always crowded on the weekends, especially in Sunday's during the farmers market. Before COVID, the line was out the door. These days they only allow 10 people at a time inside. Either call ahead, order online, or use one of the two machines installed outside. If you walk in without ordering, anything that needs to be prepared is likely to be a 15 min or more wait. I'm a fan of the everything bagel and the rye poppyseed bagel. The latter is a kind of fusion between the two styles and it just works. If lox is your thing, theirs is legit -- obviously not smoked on premise but tastes fresh and not too salty. If you're craving sweets, the cinnamon rolls are solid and the chocolate chip muffin is sugary goodness. The croissants are ok but I can't recommend them -- there are better ones elsewhere. Lots more to explore on the menu means reasons to keep coming back

Jing Z.

Yelp
Nice Place with nice Cinnamon Raisin egg bagel. You can sit outside and enjoy the sunshine.

Kristen C.

Yelp

Dave K.

Yelp
Legit NY-style bagel place. Bagels are quality, food is good. My problem is their online ordering (at least via DoorDash) is not good. Today, I ordered the Lox Special Sandwich (which has no default toppings in the description) and it came with tomato, cucumber, and capers. The tomato leaked all into the bagel and made it soggy. Which is precisely why I never put tomato on a food service delivery bagel. But they did it for me, seemingly giving me the Lox Gourmet Sandwich (which I did not want and did not order) instead. Moreover, to give you an idea of how messed up the system is, if you read the description of the Lox Special Sandwich it says "Choice of bagel with whipped cream cheese, lox gourmet, tomatoes, cucumber, red onion & capers" and then proceeds to ask if you if you want tomatos, cucumbers, red onions, and capers as Add-Ons at $0.45 each. Confusing AF. Please clean up your menu and your online ordering (suggest defaulting *nothing* onto a bagel and making everything an optional add-on whether paid or not). I have problems with literally every order I make so I'm going to stop ordering from here until I can get what I want. Meantime, if you do order from here, I suggest using Special Instructions to specify what you actually want. By the way, the side salads are good (e.g., egg, tuna) and I'll sometimes order them to get cross a price threshold and then eat them for lunch. Avoid the croissants, kind of gross and huge -- but you don't come here for that anyway.

Heying D.

Yelp
This is a really nice place with very welcoming and friendly staff. The bagels were excellent. The lox gourmet was the best. The added cucumber gave it a refreshing add-on. The egg in the Pack-Man was a little too much and overwhelming. Their lattes were not good though - had a very off flavor.

Angelynn N.

Yelp
Really good bagels that remind me of the ones I've had in New York. Bagels were fresh and crunchy! Always go for the lox and cream cheese bagel when I come here. Staff is always super friendly and never a long wait for food either.

Jade J.

Yelp
The ordering and food prep is as chaotic as it can be. Online order will not be ready on time if placed during busy hours. They also won't call your name at the pick up line even if the food is ready. You need to ask. Lox gourmet- 2.5/5 Bagel was cold and kinda stiff. Smoked salmon and cream cheese was good. Breakfast burrito- 3/5 Texture was good. Not as flavorful. Forgot to give me salsa. Overall not worth the wait.

Rossewidge ..

Yelp
Last straw. They messed up my to-go order that I wasn't able to check before I got home. Too many problems and they evidently couldn't care less

Iris H.

Yelp
So fresh and fulfilling! Used the kiosks in front to place my order -- super convenient when you don't want to wait in line. It's a little chaotic when you're trying to pick up your order, but the bagels are so worth it.

Suriya S.

Yelp
Grubhub order review: I ordered a sesame bagel with hummus and avocado. The bagel itself and the avocado tasted good but I wasn't a fan of the hummus. The hummus had a really strong and overpowering sesame flavor. The pricing was also weird -- the hummus was $4 while the bagel was $3 and the avocado was $1

Lea Z.

Yelp
Fluffy in the inside and crunchy on the outside.. Just perfection! (PS: Their chocolate croissant is a secret favorite!!)
