Popped in for a late breakfast after being in town for a soccer game. The food is incredible. I had French toast ( melt in your mouth), eggs, ham, and hash browns. Perfection. I HAD to write a review. My husband had the CV chopcheese and a grilled blueberry muffin. Amazing. We kept sampling from each other's plates. Oh and the coffee was delicious. Chatty friendly atmosphere. Smiling staff/ management. Clean, comfortable environment. We will absolutely be back!

Every other time I have order it has been 5 stars. This is my favorite breakfast place. Today it was terrible the home fries were not crispy at all and they put 2 pieces of bacon on my bagel breakfast sandwich. I didn’t get bacon in very bite. They usually give more. Idk if they have a new chef but it was terrible. Will probably try one more time and then find a new breakfast spot if it’s like this again

Went there last to have lunch. The food was absolutely delicious! This is a must try for Cape Verdean style food. Nice place. Nice atmosphere, nice waitstaff. ... I had the lingucia and cheese omelette. Highly recommend!

Google
I never knew this place existed until someone recommended it since my go-to spot for cachupa closed. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. It’s a hidden gem that we will definitely visit again.

Google
A Great little restaurant with a Cape Verde flair. I was very pleasantly surprised at the sauce served on my steak and eggs. Quick, inexpensive and a throwback to breakfast shops and diners of my youth (again with a spicy little kick).

Google
My fiance and I have gone here a few times and each time they knock it out of the park. Friendly staff, cozy atmosphere, amazing food made with love at an extremely affordable price. The family that runs this restaurant are very nice and truly care about every plate and every persons experience that walk through their door. We will continue coming back again and again. Highly recommend them for breakfast or food during any time of the day. I assure you that you won't regret choosing Izzys!!

Yelp
We were looking for a different breakfast place, and boy did we find it! We ordered the hungry mans special (I ended up taking half of it to go) the pancakes we so light and fluffy..ssoooo good!! Home fries, were crunchy on the outside and soft inside as they should be. Small little family own business, great service there is nothing negative to say about this place. Worth checking out. This will be our new breakfast place for sure.

Yelp
Very friendly service. I asked what I should try and the cachupa was recommended. It was very good. It was mostly beans but still tasted pretty good. I asked for my eggs over easy and I'm assuming the cook doesn't get requests for over easy because it was more like sunny side up. Parking can be tough because of its location in the city.

Yelp
Really great service, it's a family owned place and you can tell they take pride in their cooking. We went for breakfast and I had the cachupa rafugado. Super tasty! Would definitely go back and try more things.

Yelp
Izzy is a goddess of food! I've lived in New Beddy for over 10 years and for whatever reason never walked into Izzy's. Needless to say, I intend to make up for lost time. Her menu is Cape Verde focused (I had to ask what a few menu items were b/c I'm uncultured). Somehow even the standard pancake is the most fluffy heavenly experience ever created. Her main course is breakfast, but there are lots of lunch items too. No matter the dish, you will be stuffed and may not even finish your food. Besides trying everything, may I recommend any dish with Cachupa and/or swapping the bread in your breakfast sandwich out for pancake bread. My next dish will for certain be the Cachupa Burrito. Eat in or take out. I don't mind waiting the 10 min for the take-out. The staff is welcoming and happy to make you feel at home. I will likely call ahead next order, so I can grab and go, per recommendation of the staff. I saw they do coffee to go if you need to top off the tank. Shout out to New Bedford Food Tour for introducing me in to Izzy's. My next date will be here and I will bring all my family who come to visit the area so I can blow their minds with local food. I'm so happy to find my new favorite NB eatery, a truly unique menu made by an incredible chef. Izzy, I think I love you.

Yelp
Almost walked past on my way to get my car at the hotel parking lot. Very charming little spot. Best omelette and home fries I've ever had. The service was excellent. Super friendly staff. Definitely coming back next time I'm in the area. Can't wait to try the rest of their menu.

Yelp
Linguiça, with bacon and eggs? Yup. This now might well be my favorite breakfast!

Yelp
I literally called to place an order and was told to hold which ended wasting 15 mins of my life. I was honestly upset. But I still ordered and went to pick up the food and let me tell you.... Such a different experience from the phone thankfully! The staffing was really sweet.

Yelp
Recently moved to the area and paid Izzy's Restaurant a visit and the staff was super friendly and welcoming. The food and delicious and the ambience was really great. Will definitely be paying them another visit

Yelp
This little place is definitely a must try! Authentic food from Cabo Verde, and such a friendly beautiful staff. I had the cachupa rafugadu with tuna and eggs-- cooked to perfection and the tuna was so juicy. My portion was a little pricey, but large enough for two so worth it. The onions and peppers were the unexpected star of the show. It's family ran, or so it seemed, giving it an even homier feel. Pictures of the islands hang pridefully on the walls; nice to see. The place is bright and clean, all you could ask for! Definitely stop by if you're around, I know i will.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious foods! Try the Zimbabwe shrimp, what a great spicy oily yet light and fragrant sauce. Be sure to get the cod cakes and the other fried breads to dip in it. What delicious unique pulled pork sandwiches! And get the stew-soup with seafood, meat and veggies, the large is enough for three people, steamy, tasty, hearty. Just an awesome Portuguese and Cape Verdean diner, I could eat here every day, comforting. Very nice people

Yelp
The food is deliciously fresh, especially the Cape Verdean food. Some days you just have to have Cape Verdean food so you go to Izzys.

Yelp
Fantastic food. Very tasty and well seasoned. The staff really made the experience for me though. They were very friendly, answered my questions and made suggestions. I left very full and happy and I'll be back for this authentic cuisine next time I'm in the area.

Yelp
I had a great experience at Izzys for breakfast. The service was attentive and friendly. This was my first time eating Cape Verdean food, so my server was happy to explain a few of the dishes to me. I had the Cachupa with linguiça. It was savory with a great texture and flavor. The coffee was good as well and the flan was a nice dessert. I have eaten at many small restaurants all over the Caribbean and Izzy's reminded me of one of these small family / home kitchen type restaurants. I will certainly be back, and look forward to taking my girlfriend to experience Izzy's Cape Verdean flavor.

Yelp
Don't judge a book by its cover! My fiancé and I went here for the first time for some breakfast and ordered eggs, toast, home fries, bacon, linguiça, and French toast with caramelized bananas. Everything was DELICIOUS! Especially the French toast! Just over $20 for everything and I couldn't even finish my portion, I was so full. I'd love to go back, just for that French toast.

Yelp
Great little spot! Diner food that hits the spot if your looking for a quick and good breakfast!

Yelp
I'm here at least 1x a week. I'm a sucker for the cachupa rafugado with the linguistic and fried egg but the regular cachupa is amazing!!! I recommend those for sure and even their pastels are good just wish they had cheese in em. Dope spot def check it out

Peter S.

Yelp
I was in New Bedford early Sunday morning and saw that Izzy's was open for takeout so I went and got a linguica egg and cheese sandwich. It was delicious! I can't wait to go back to Izzy's for lunch or dinner!

Yelp
The food was okay, the service is awful. We came in and weren't greeted. When we were done eating a larger group came in and then all of a sudden the waitress came up and started clearing our table and was like I'll bring your checked. Started moving a table to the side of us to our table to make a larger table for the other group. Started wiping the table off with us still sitting there. Then when she brought us our check she just placed in on the counter expecting us to grab it ourself. If she had only communicated with us and just asked if we minded going up to the counter to pay it wouldn't have felt as pushed out as we were.

Yelp
Delicious food. Great service. Must have the specials! Had chicken stew and the meat was so tender and flavorful!

Yelp
Izzy does not mess around! Her food is always delicious and authentic. My boyfriend used to live off her food before we started dating, so that should tell you something! Breakfast, lunch, and dinner??! Her staff are always friendly and I appreciate the homestyle feel. Support your local businesses!

David B.

Yelp
Here's the spot in NB, though you wouldn't know it from the outside. Check out their linguica and eggs. Possibly the best French toast on the eastern seaboard as well.

Yelp
You might wait for a little while, but it's worth it. Real Cape Verdean food - great flavor and not too spicy. Really loved the cachupa breakfast - it's like manchupa without the broth and fried with an egg on top.

Marie R.

Yelp
Great pancakes and omlettes. I found the food and service better for breakfast than it was for dinner.

Ryan S.

Yelp
Food was decent...however place really needs some cleaning. The pictures on the wall and the wall itself was dirty near the tables and the hanging glasses were also seen to have film of grease over them. One of the waitresses was very loud and heard swearing, not sure I will be back

Yelp
My husband and I had visited my brother on the Cape and were leaving for home in North Carolina. Wanted to stop for a breakfast to get us on our way and pulled off the highway into New Bedford. Never been to New Bedford before as I grew up in Wakefield and Melrose, MA. We just drove down a main street and at glimpse, my husband's eye caught Izzy's Restaurant. He quickly asked me if I wanted to try it and not knowing it from anything else, I said, "Sure." We fed the parking meter and walked across the street. Right away we felt at home. I could tell that it was family owned and family run, just by the warmth of the conversations, including conversations in the family language. It felt similar to my Italian upbringing. Our waitress was a real sweetheart. She shared with us how she has been in America for four years now and has become an American citizen. I could see the pride in her face and in her voice. She treated us like guests in her own home. I liked the way another female relative who had been called to cook that day (July 2, 2013) had a warm conversation with two women who must frequent the restaurant. They seemed to know one another. It was nice. Our food was home cooking, very, very good. I am a real coffee drinker and I don't usually drink my coffee all the way down to nothing (I don't know why - because after a few cups, I've had enough), but this coffee was some of the most delicious coffee I have ever had and I drank it down, every drop! I can't seem to forget the pleasant visit to Izzy"s and if I didn't live so darned far away from it, you can believe that I would be there often. Thanks for the good experience! Judy M.

Yelp
Izzy's should be on the "Best Thing I Ever Ate" Show! While Izzy specializes in Cape Verdean lunch/dinner entres,( too many to mention) Izzy makes the best breakfast meals ever! The muncupa with eggs and linguica is absolutely yummy! Her french toast is so delicious that you don't even have to put syrup on it as it already has a caramelized topping as if it were creme brulee'! Awesome! Have that with her lightly seasoned-perfectly-golden fried chicken, Izzy gives California's Roscoe's Chicken and Waffle House a run for his money!
