"After 24 years of slinging pies to college kids and devoted locals, Denton pizza favorite J&J’s Pizza will permanently close its doors later this summer. The restaurant announced its impending closure in a Facebook post on Wednesday, noting that J&J’s final day of service will come in August. “We will miss serving this beautiful and supportive community so, so much,” the statement reads in part. In the post J&J’s owners say that their landlord increased the rent on the pizzeria’s space at 118 West Oak Street that they “just can’t pay.” Since opening 24 years ago, J&J’s was a staple for college kids attending the University of North Texas, and for more than a decade the restaurant’s “old dirty basement” played host to free underground rock shows from local musicians. J&J’s discontinued its basement shows in 2016, after the pizzeria lost access to the space following “heated” negotiations with the building’s owner. In the meantime, J&J’s fans still have about six weeks to score their final meat lovers’ pies and Italian subs. The restaurant is set to officially close its doors on August 10." - Amy McCarthy

This is a nice cozy pizzeria. We were not going to stop but the aroma coming out if the restaurant was mouth watering. We had the Chicago Style Supreme Pizza with a side caesar salad and wings. All three were amazing. Tables were nicely spaced out.

Honestly a great pizza and eco friendly! (Offering noodle straws as well as normal straws) We got a large to split between 3 people, which was a great deal. The pizza crust is on the thinner side, but it is perfect. They have enough sauce and toppings (we picked our pizza vs the predesigned pizza) each bite was a delight. It came out fast and though it is a thiner crust was still soft. (Thank you) the seasonings they have on the pizza was a great balance. They have a "basement" that had live music tonight, though we stayed upstairs you could still hear the music and you could tell downstairs it was loud but upstairs you could still hear the music but still talk to people and relax. The building has a lot of history and it is an ideal "hometown pizza joint". Right outside is the downtown court house. Overall a great night with the family with great food.

Fun, casual pizza joint with live music in the basement. Two types of pizza - New York thin crust and Chicago thick crust. Friendly service - walk in ordering and soft drinks from self service fountain. Limited menu but if you want pizza this a good choice. Does have salad and subs. Can also order a slice with toppings of your choice. Pizza came out really fast. Prices were very reasonable. Certainly would be back. Also a nice view of courthouse-on the square

2nd Edit: Nov 2020: They changes to a thinner crust so it is not raw. A lot better now. —- Edit: Nov 2019: The pizza has been excellent for years. But these last 3 visits, the dough under the cheese has been raw and gooey. ——- Alway excellent food and excellent service, then a nice stroll around the square. (Various pics from the square and court house 2017-2018.)

This place is great. The Pizza really hit the spot. I was in the mood for a pizza that wasn't a pre-made dough and was flavorful. Sometimes when I get the normal "pizza chains" they just don't have flavor, or at least the toppings don't. So this lunch was exactly what I needed. They were still practicing mask protocols wich was nice. The cheese was gooey, the pepperoni and mushrooms where so flavorful and the crust was cooked to perfection. Please try this place.

I love that this establishment allows my son's band to play there! The pizza was good and the service was also. Too bad I won't be able to visit again because they're moving. Check out Plan B on Instagram☺️

My go-to spot in Denton for NY style pizza. Super friendly and courteous staff who are happy to help you out. Super delicious food. My go-to are the Pepperoni Pizza Rolls, but I've had most of everything on the menu and I've never disliked a single thing I've had. Love this spot.

The saddest, softest, and greasiest pizza I've had in a long time. $6.50 for these 2 small slices?? Do yourself a favor and go literally anywhere else.
