I generally avoid leaving awful reviews for small businesses, but you've been here for decades and should know better. I ate more tortilla than burrito. I've been passing by this place since I was a kid and finally gave them a try, I don't know how they've stayed in business. Supports a small business. Limited parking available in the back. Heated outdoor seating available. Open late. Food lacked flavor. Food lacked quantity! Refer to micro sauce container. Price to quantity ratio is bad. There was zero egg or maybe scrap pieces in my breakfast burrito...

Been a regular since 1999...Nothing comes close!! My choice has always been 2 Hard Shell Tostadas and 1 Bean n Cheese Burrito..and I never forget to ask for the Mole hot sauce!!!

The Chili Rellano Burrito was bland, and they left the stem on. The hard shell taco was really good. The green salsa was better than the red, in my opinion. It was also spicier. They don't have pepinos or lemón.

12/20/2024 J & S 887 N Garfield Ave Montebello, CA 90640 I went there to try the Chili Dog to compare with others in this area. It's a Mexican fast food mainly take out place located close to the freeway. There is some parking in the back. There is stainless steel bench seating in the front with no interior dining (being used for storage). The menu is on the board above the order window. I placed my order and paid for a Chili Dog with onions at the window then waited a short time for my ticket number to get called. The order taker was very friendly and cheerful. The Chili was flavorful and surprisingly not spicy at all. The dog was of the supermarket taste variety and okay, can't beat a Costco dog. If I put their Chili on a Costco dog, then that would be perfection. Value was pretty good and I would repeat.

I’ve been coming to this joint for over 20 years now and this has always been the go to place but I like is it 24 seven. It was always a cash only joint but just last month they started accepting cards and Apple Pay.. whenever I come I always get the back Chris burritos with bacon or the taquitos with guacamole. That’s always been my go to. This place is one of the best fast food joints you can go to in Montebello and has been around for over 30 years. If you’re in Montebello and you’re craving a breakfast burrito, you need to check out this spot. The prices are reasonably priced and lower than any other spot out here. Big portions and great food. It’s not a sit down joint maybe if you come on the weekend after partying it’s good but it’s usually packed.

Amazing hole in the wall experience. food is really good, price is incredible. place is just missing restrooms. Worth a visit.

I almost don't want to tell how good this place is because I don't want to wait in lines...but J&S is excellent! Ordered 20 burriotos for a retirement party at my office they were ready right on time! Don't be a Jerk and park blocking the ONLY EXIT to the establishment! There's extra parking in back at BOTH the burrito shop and the coffee shop so you DON'T have to park on the street, all you have to do is open your eyes 👀.

Very nice lady working the window. In ALL the years I've been coming here, it's the first time I ever see someone come out to clean the tables. Great customer service from her. Wish I would've gotten her name!

Came Sunday 9/14 w/boyfriend. We placed (2) sausage breakfast burritos (3) chili relleno burritos All I gotta say is there burritos are bomb.com, also are super big. They super pack the breakfast burrito

I have been coming here for 25 years. Up until today, nothing had changed and for was always excellent. Today, IMHO, almost everything seems to have changed. The rumors of J&S changing hands are apparently true. A few things are very noticeable. They now take credit cards and Apple Pay. Take out containers have changed from things like the taquitos in a paper tray and wrapped in a paper bag to now being placed in a black plastic hard shell container. Same with my machaca plate. Instead of a round aluminum dish with a round top, it now comes in another hard shell container with the rice, beans, and machaca in their own place. But the most telling thing was the quality of the food. With the first bite, you could tell things were not the same. The taquitos were dry and had less meat. Every item on the machaca plate was just tasteless. The machaca was dry, the refried beans were basically a paste, and the rice was...uninspired. I have been a huge fan and I will probably return to try their all meat burrito (my usual order). I guess we all change, but I never expected it would ever happen to J&S.

This would be my 2nd time eating here but my 1st time actually going myself. I heard their bean and cheese burritos were good and yes indeed it was good. It was pretty big. Their salsa was really good they gave us 3 different kinds but I enjoyed 2 of them the most! Their service was ok. They have parking in the back.

first time even though my bf has been coming here for years. I wanted to surprise him with the green chili no meat burritos . He loved it ! Pricey is affordable considering todays economy. Parking lot as well. No bathrooms though. Right off the 60 freeway . They do take credit cards and are still open 24 hours

Saw this while driving and decided to try it out. They burritos are made to order and there was a line in the morning when I went. I tried the machaca and the deluxe burritos. The machaca was good it had refried beans inside but the deluxe was the way to go. Had bacon, ham, cheese, egg and some beans. Definitely recommend the deluxe.

Had the delicious beef taquitos, super crunchy and tasty. The mole salsa is the best, such an amazing salsa option that goes perfectly well with the guac and taquitos. They have a few tables at the front of the building, they didn't have somebody actively cleaning so we had to ask the cashier for a cloth to clean. They seem to have a side dinning room but doesn't seem to ever open.

Great for an after hours place to grab food Togo. They do have a few outdoor tables. Parking is located at the back of the restaurant. I recommend the machaca burrito breakfast burritos and a side of taquitos with guacamole sauce.

OMG - good news guys!!! They accept credit card now . Thought I would share coz we all know we always want to stop by whenever we are in the area but always depends on how much cash we have on hand hehe. Got my usual taquitos with guac and side of red sauce. Also got some guac fries for the hubs. Honestly, anything you order would be good - even their fries! Must try, if you haven't already.

I have been coming here for 50 years now. Food is still good, but not as good as it was with the original owner and cooks. Have many fond memories of eating here when the inside eating was open and I would play Rock Lobster on their jukebox. Until the lady working there would yell at me and my friends to stop playing that song

Got the triple meat breakfast burrito, it was $15 and was a bit disappointed. Couldn't taste much of all the different meats and hardly and eggs and filling. The salsas weren't great either.

We arrived on a Saturday afternoon and it was quite busy, but we were able to find a parking spot right in front. I ordered the machaca burrito and it was delicious, affordable, and a nice size. We were greeted right away with a warm smile and had our order taken. Please note that they are a cash only establishment. This is definitely a fast food spot, so dining inside is not an option.

Your soft tostada was so good just like I like it when I was younger it was always my go to on my weekends when we use to go to guardunos when we would cruise the Whittier Blvd right by montebello high school I was not disappointed good food good flavor and it's open 24 hours on Garfield I will definitely come back!!!!!!!

Their phoneline is always busy but she always picks up eventually This spot is a montebello gem Phone call is clutch so no need to wait The food is made pretty quickly too red and green both sauces are good lovely people parking in the back too I need to their their things like late night food keep more restaurants open up late!! I always get deluxe and breakfast burrito , definitely going to switch it up soon!

My friends had recommended this place as I was looking to get breakfast burritos for me and my boyfriend. Good breakfast burritos are hard to come by these days.. This place however is open 24hrs and their burritos were .. The service was great, friendly staff and wait time was minimal. 10/10 recommend! They have outdoor seating only but you can order to go or even call in your order. Will definitely be back.

What an absolute gem probably one of my most favorite places to eat of all time everything is delicious the taquitos the tacos, the burritos, the hotdog the grilled cheese, the enchiladas the beans everything on the menu is a home run. Prices are all pre-inflation seems like because everything is a great deal.

I grew up very close to J & S, so this is a nostalgic spot. Haven't been here in years, but enjoy coming back. The taquitos are crunchy, has good amount of shredded beef, and generous guacamole type sauce. I don't think it's 100% avocado, but it sure tastes great on this dish. The beef enchilada had deep flavorful sauce, cheese was melty and tasty corn tortilla. The prices are very good, it's a better deal than most fast food.

Burritos are great but idk how they constantly mix up orders. I'm a vegetarian and I've been served a meat burrito twice now. I'm done trying to go here at this point.

Came here late at night after a healthy night of drinking. I got an order of their taquitos which came smothering in guacamole sauce. It was so dank, I got another one immediately and devoured it as well. Super quick service, good price, solid food.

This place really surprise me. I have lived in this area for over 30 years and I have always seen this little hamburger place and wondered if it's been open this long it has to be good so I finally came in and tried it out. I got their double cheeseburger combo. Let me tell you it was great. Now this is a burger that reminds me of something that's home-cooked, I don't mean that in a bad way because my family gets down in the kitchen and I've had plenty of burgers that are better than Mostbrick and motors. They got the recipe right, they did not mess up where they didn't need to and they shine where they needed to. I would most definitely come back here to have their burgers, just know that seating is limited. They do offer outdoor seating but inside is relatively small . And the people there were amazing. Only two people running, but they are doing an amazing job as the food didn't take an unreasonable time to come out.

The service is always great, the food is always and we love coming back for more!! Great ambiance as we dig in!

I called in an order for pickup and was quoted 15 minutes. I left my house 15 minutes after calling in my order. When I paid for my food I said it was a phoned in order for pickup, but was not told my food was ready. I stood around waiting for about 30 more minutes while other people who walked up and ordered after me got their orders before me. When I walked up to the window to check on my order, the woman at the window said my order had been ready. I said you didn't tell me it was ready or call my name. She stated she was calling me for 5 minutes which I will say is not true at all, because everyone she called was a number and all orders were picked up. I said my food has been sitting and I wasn't told it was ready when I paid. The woman had no cares and only repeated that she did call me. When I got home, my food was cold and was made incorrectly. Service was rude, not consistent and food was not prepared how ordered. I will not return.

Server Dalia was very friendly. Many items to choose from. Parking is decent. Had the burrito with beans, egg, and potatoes and had the red sauce was very tasty. Thanks again for a great visit.

Been coming here for many years. But wanted something a little different. I asked them if I could get a special quesadilla, but instead of pastrami or beef, I had them substitute bacon! It was a little more but after years of the regular special quesadilla, it was a game changer!

I don't know why this place isn't rated higher, but I've only been once on a Tuesday morning at 8:30am, so I can't say how it is during other times, like late night, since this place is open 24 hours. Got a shredded beef taco and a breakfast burrito with guacamole on the side. First off I want to talk about their salsa, the red one. Looked like a chipotle sauce, but holy ishhh was it tasty! It had a nice roasted pepper taste, but also some sweet notes and a fragrant flavor like tamarind. The taco shell is fried and lard and it makes a difference for taste. The taco tastes like an authentic version Taco Bell hard shell taco was trying to mimic. Don't kill me - I'm just saying it like I tasted it. The burrito was sausage with bacon added and filled with beans, cheese, and potatoes. Such a good vessel for the guac sauce and hot sauce. Would recommend you try the taco if you haven't had one fried in lard before, it's an experience. Note: the wrapper will be swimming in oil.

I would always come here in high school to get breakfast burritos before school back in early 2010s. It's 2025 and I'm in the area drunk af looking for a food spot, I find J&S! Again. They now accept card which is a huge plus now! I got the chorizo burrito with guac late at night around 2am and was so good! I also got the chili cheese fries and loved that they came with Monterey Jack instead of cheddar! I wanted to make sure the food was actually delicious so I got drunk again late at night and ate my food in the morning hungover the 2nd time! And wow the burrito was still soft and not too greasy, usually a cold burrito will have a really hard tortilla not sure how they do it but the burrito was still soft after the night. The guac is not too chunky so it fits right in with the chorizo burritos. Amazing can't wait to try again!

CASH ONLY!!! I've been going to J&S since high school. So this place is very nostalgic for me. I remember coming here after activities and in the morning for breakfast burritos. So it's been a go to for long time. And now I come here for late night eats and still for their breakfast burritos. Their breakfast burritos are very filling and hearty. I have always preferred sausage as my protein. But I have tried the bacon and ham. All are good. For late night eats, I usually get the taquitos or enchiladas. It can get crowded at night but they are usually pretty quick at getting orders out. It's a small place with a few tables in the front. Parking is available behind. Most people just order and take it to go.

The ordering & pick-up windows open 24 hours & 7 days per week. I usually just stop by the next-door shop Ground Up Coffee and never pay extra attention to this spot, but hey it's 2023 so I decided to give this place a shot. J & S has a designated parking lot and this spot is supposedly known for breakfast burritos (ham, bacon, or sausage.) Please note adding guacamole, source cream, cheese, or bacon = extra charge. I got my order fairly quickly (less than 5 minutes.) *** Bacon breakfast burrito ($6.95): Generous portion and enough to fill me up, but it was just mostly potato and egg. Given how expensive eggs are in January 2023 I am not complaining, but In terms of taste it was mediocre at best. *** Other than convenience and good value, I just can't see other good reasons to come here again.

This place is a long-time staple of the Monterey Park/Montebello area. A small building located on a busy street, the restaurant has parking in the back for around 10-15 cars (including some handicap spots). This usually doesn't get filled up since most people come here just to grab and go, although there are seats for small parties who choose to eat there. There is no indoor section, and to my knowledge, no public restroom either. You order at the window and wait for your order to be called, which usually takes around 5-15 minutes depending on your order size and how busy it is at the time. The restaurant serves a mix of Mexican and American plates, mostly handheld, on the go type of items. Prices are very reasonable, portion sizes are respectable, and the taste is above average. While nothing stands out as over-the-top amazing, there aren't any bad things about this place either. This is a place for any occasion, and a place I hope stays in business long enough for me to visit for every occasion.

You should add an "L" to your business name based on the crappy service I received today. I ordered a bean and cheese burrito, and my order gets given away to someone else because the cashier isn't checking numbers or orders, she's just giving the food out smh. Then it legit takes another 15 minutes to re-make the order you gave away because they had other orders come in that they prioritized over mine lol. What a joke. Never coming here again.

Then, recently, a good friend told me they had a special quesadilla here that combined two of my loves... "Could it be true," I wondered? So I ventured back, this time without the pressure of a handicap or skins game. Just me, some queso and a handful of pastrami, and let me tell you it was like hearing Led Zeppelin, Nivana or Tupac for the first time... Blew my mind. So damn good!

Im sorry but i have to write this review. The wait was super long. The bag was leaking oil from the enchilada container and made a mess in my car. The enchiladas had way too much sauce. I was very hungry and i can't even finish the enchiladas. The beef taco was okay.

Always good never lets me down love the green burrito with meat and with no meat always gotta get taquitos and I get a order of quac fries well done and add beans and cheese but they do t always make them well done but they are really open 24/7 and on Christmas I've been coming here for 30years!!! A MUST when in MPK! My first stop anytime I'm back home!! We love the bacon tomato sandwich. We add a fried egg. Winner! Chorizo burrito is a must too. And gotta love the taquitos with the green guacamole

J&S used to be THE spot to go to late night, random midday, morning.. anytime. One item, the order of taquitos, has been my absolute go-to and the one item that I'd enthusiastically recommend to anyone else. The second to last time that my boyfriend and I went, the taquitos were a little colder than usual (they're never cold) & the meat tasted a a bit undercooked. I was so sad and our stomachs were in pain. We figured it was a one-off and gave it another shot. This time he ordered additional items and we both paid the price for it again the next morning. J&S.. I can't see you like that anymore

So I've been going to J&S for years. Today I went ordered a few items, but really went to get a bean and cheese burrito because I like the way they make the beans with chorizo plus grill the tortilla. Well! come to find out after I ordered and take a bite that they don't make them like that anymore. So disappointing! The beans remind me of can beans I actually called them and asked because it was bothering me and the lady did confirm that yes they don't make them like before. I told her that they were better before and the way they make them not taste good. She said that she would let the boss know so hopefully they go back to the original way.... Other than that my taquitos were delicious and the guacamole so good! we also ordered guacamole and cheese fries. Super yummy. Definitely will be going back for the taquitos and the guacamole fries.

Very disappointed in this place's customer service, I came here three time and each time they missed up my order and denied it, refused to do anything to make the wrong right, which was very disappointing. However I'm places favor the food is good and priced at a good price. But go at your own risk and just make sure they place your order correctly. Also it's super cold so take. Jacket. Back in the mid 80's they where famous for there bean & cheese.if you grew up around there you new. Used to go all the time for lunch in high school & after quiet cannon. I moved to pomona. only once a yr I stop by, but never a again. Beans where so hard, in pic I'm actually squeezing the bean up & it's not even running ( oozing) on my hand. Hard solid & tasteless.

Great breakfast burrito. It's been cash only for years; not sure if it has changed. The burrito is $8.00, so it's cheaper than most new pop-ups or places with no reputation other than social media. This place has been here for a long time, and yet people still come. Conclusion: It's good.

Best inexpensive Mexican food in Los Angeles. Ordered a green burrito and a soft tostada and it was very salty and had a weird after taste this time. Been here many times in the past and it seems whenever the cook is a woman the burritos taste better and less salty. It's located in montebello, which is right next to ELA. Open 24 hoursI but I wouldn't come here in late hours that's for sure.
