The Best Breakfast Restaurants in Bend, Oregon | Eater Portland

"Many Bend restaurants are welcoming to pets but few restaurants are as welcoming to pets as downtown Bend’s J Dub, which offers a dining experience for both humans and their canine companions. With a dedicated pet menu featuring dishes such as freshly prepared chicken and sweet potato or a pig’s ear for those spirited dogs, J Dub ensures that no guest is left hungry. For the humans, Mr. October has everything, combining scrambled eggs, bacon, melted cheese, and fried chicken on a biscuit smothered in sausage gravy. There’s also a doughnut breakfast sandwich for the adventure seekers eggs, bacon, and sausage piled on a toasted glazed doughnut." - Barb Gonzalez

Google
Got the Deviled Eggs appetizer special was a spam, seaweed, teriyaki version I thought was pretty good. Also got just there normal Deviled Eggs with were average. I got the Lobster roll and fries. It was average. Nothing to unique at all. Fries average. She got the No Carb Burger. She was more impressed with the spicy 1000 island than the meal. Our 3rd had the teaser salad. Was very generic and over dressed making it super saucy. Overall a average meal for the price.

Google
We felt welcomed in from the start and the food didn't disappoint. The fish and burgers were excellent, the fries were practically perfect. We also loved how they hung customer artwork on the wall of fame. Highly recommend and if we're back in Bend we'll stop in.

Jesse B.

Google
Overall this was a great restuarant. The staff was amazing and very attentive. Be prepared for large portions. I could almost not finish my breakfast. The menu is available all day, breakfast or dinner. If your looking for a family friendly spot then I recommend this place. Also you have to try their rotating special of deviled eggs.

Karissa P.

Google
Great spot for breakfast. We had the Mr. October and the special/seasonal caramel apple Dutch baby. Both were delicious. Friendly and attentive service, too.

Vonnie M.

Google
Excellent hamburger and fries - but that original clam chowder! We ordered more to go and found it just as good reheated. Definitely appreciated the dog-friendly menu and service but dang it was cold on that patio. Not your fault. Thx for the friendly service to two fresh-in-town out-of-towners.

Jim W.

Google
The sale came with freshly grilled chicken. Not the microwaved tough chicken you get most places. No croutons by request. Great service. Sat outside on a lovely evening.

Google
Shh.. don't tell anyone. Just kidding, look at me. I'm telling good everyone! This place is great!! Reminds me of how Bend used to be. Awesome breakfast options served all day, as well as great lunch and dinner. Cocktails for evening meals and a "Deviled egg of the day!" 🥚. Did I mention you can draw on the tables? Go here, you gotta try it.

Google
I found the best chicken fried steak! Perfectly tender, amazing breading and the sausage gravy was magnificent! Slight Cajun with paprika and maybe some cayenne. Everything was absolutely perfect. This is my new favorite place! The frickles (fried pickles) we're great too and there were so many that I had to stop eating so I'd have room for the giant steak! Thank you for a great meal!

Yelp
Best breakfast in Bend. Best breakfast in Oregon, maybe the world. Chicken fried chicken that was tender inside crispy out. Fried potatoes were crispy outside fluffy inside. Wonderful sausage gravy and light biscuits. I dream about this until I can go back. Great service. Attentive and fun. Cool vibe ambiance with a fabulous playlist..

Yelp
Leaving 1-star.. For poor customer service and purposely deceit on the menu. Ordered the Lobster Roll and could tell something was off. The meat tasted very much like imitation crab meat. When we asked the server she seemed surprised but said they'd ask the kitchen. The final result was a "1/2 lobster meat & 1/2 imitation crab meat" (there wasn't an ounce of lobster on this sandwich). The server as a result said they would comp the meal. The bill came and it was a $12 off of the stated $20. The reason for the limited reduction by the Manager was that "I ate part of the sandwich". Really poor customer service. The menu does not list imitation crab meat at all. The restaurant is running a scam here which could result in someone getting sick from unstated food ingredients. Really not impressed and will not be coming back.

Yelp
I went to J Dub twice over my three days in Bend this week. It was conveniently close to where I was staying and it was recommended for its delicious hard boiled eggs. They lived up to the recommendation, so we also had our meal there. I ate the no carb burger and my husband the donut burger. Both were very satisfying after a day of adventures. We went back for breakfast on our way out of town and split the huevos rancheros, which was a good choice. The service was friendly and helpful both visits.

Yelp
Glaze Doughnut Burger is nothing I have had before so I HAD to try it! It is a smash burger so it is not too heavy with the doughnut. Scrumptious flavors and such a unique idea. Fries were yum and I loved the fry sauce. Server was very nice and the interior of J.DUB is perfect compliment to after being in the great outdoors. I would come back for this burger.

Yelp
We got back from the coast well after lunch and were lucky to get our large party seated at J DUB. There were a few other full tables in the restaurant but we were lucky to have our space to ourselves. The tables lined with paper were great to keep the kids busy coloring. I ordered the wedge salad because who doesn't love eating healthier when given fried food options. The table got their special deviled eggs which they seem to dress differently rather than mix into the egg yolk mixture. My kids had a great time coloring the paper all the way through their meals. The server was very straight forward nothing above or below. We were in and out in pretty good time. We parked on the street around the corner and found a decent spot. Thankfully it was after lunch so it wasn't packed.

Yelp
This place was banging!!! The corn dogs were piping hot and delicious! Came with mustard which I love. The service was nice and we sat outside. There was a dog of theirs outside as well. Well behaved. We also got a burger to split with the sweet potato tots...omg soooooo good! Try it out lowkey and great!

Yelp
We stopped in for the all-day breakfast and enjoyed the fun ski/sports vibe. It was quiet when we visited between lunch and dinner, which made for a relaxed meal. The food was tasty and our waiter was very kind and friendly. The coffee wasn't my favorite, but everything else made this a pleasant stop that I'd come back to for breakfast.

Amanda D.

Yelp
Came here based on pictures and reviews. We found that it was all good in concept, but didn't haven't much flavor. We got the feeling we came after a lunch rush. I got the Mr. October. Again, the chicken didn't have seasoning, the biscuit was rock hard and the gravy was average and scarce. Loved the sweet potato tots. The donut burger, I was told, was great as well as the fries. The chicken and waffles was good, but the chicken needed flavor and crispness that wasn't there. The atmosphere was fun and the server was friendly.

Yelp
First I have to say if you have not been here ,GO! This was our first time here Top notch service I believe maybe the guy that was our waiter was the owner but he made sure right away we had drinks refilled Checked on us many times asking if we needed anything and making sure we taken care of the entire meal . The decor super fun industrial yet cozy. I had the chicken fried chicken breakfast. The chicken was juicy and the gravy best home fries I've ever had . Crispy not greasy light and fluffy in the middle . My husband got the Mr October same thing chicken was juicy biscuit were on point delicious. This will be a go to when in bend . Go try it .
google avatar

Deacon J.

Yelp
I love this place! Cheese curds are a must have and the burgers and fries are high quality. The staff refilled my soda at least size times without even asking, which was amazing service and I drank way too much... not complaining! I take my Mom to different places for lunch when i visit and this place is our favorite. Definitely underrated value!
google avatar

Kym S.

Yelp
Coffee was cold, chives put all over chimis even though raw onion allergy was declared. Potatoes were really good!
google avatar

Alex Y.

Yelp
Great pit stop for a drink and some burgers. Menu is unique. Spam is on the menu and that ensures this place is amazing. Staff is friendly and there is outdoor seating.
google avatar

Kaylyn S.

Yelp
We were looking for a spot to grab a somewhat late dinner. Much of Bend closes up pretty early, but J Dub's listing on Yelp seemed to be the answer to our dinner dilemma. We were greeted quickly and taken to a table in the front half of the establishment (the back half is the pub/bar). When we arrived we were almost by ourselves in the front, but by the time we left the entire front was full of customers. The interior has a bit of a skier vibe to it, with a lot of wood throughout. The food was good. Not anything particularly special, but it did hit the spot and we didn't leave hungry. A head's up to those who are gluten-free, their fries are battered. Once this was noticed, the server was very helpful in getting something else that was safe to eat.
google avatar

Shalamar P.

Yelp
Delicious food, great service, and awesome environment!!! They have a few slot machines in the back towards the bar, that was a fun surprise! Highly recommend! Thank you J Dub staff for taking care of my family and I yesterday!!!

Yelp
Bend, Oregon This restaurant is located downtown Bend. They have indoor seating as well as patio seating. There is also a bar at the back of the restaurant. Overall, the place is pretty small. Breakfast is served all day. I ordered the chicken Parmesan sandwich and my husband ordered the donut burger. They come with fries and their special sauce. You can substitute salad, chowder, or a choice of a few other things for a four dollar to five dollar up charge. The tables are butcher paper. They have crayons on the table for you to use. In the front room, skis, and snowboards line the wall. The floors are wood. It is a very casual place. They do have ceramic plates and real cutlery. The donut burger comes with a fried egg on top. My husband ordered clam chowder instead of fries. He said that the donut was overwhelming the taste of the actual burger. Glad he tried it, but he would not get it again. The clam chowder was average. It was thick but not hot. Would have tasted better if it was hot and not warm. The chicken Parmesan was average. The bun was delicious. The marinara sauce was good. Had chunks of tomato. However, the mozzarella on the sandwich was thrown on at last minute, and was not melted, the french fries were warm. It seems to me they have a situation with serving their food, hot or at least keeping it hot. We are seated next to the kitchen, so this is not an issue of getting the food to the table in time. The waiter was kind, but never offered to refill our drinks. I had to hunt him down to get more napkins. I would not come to this restaurant again.

Yelp
OMG! I just had the 'Glazed Donut Burger' and it is to die for! I was apprehensive when I first ordered it but took a chance on it and am so glad I did. They cut a glazed donut in half and grill the insides and make that the outside of the donut bun. When you first bite into it you experience the taste of a toasted glazed donut (yummy). The egg does not over power it either and accentuates the burger. The bacon was thick and the perfect crispy. I was very satisfied after it. I definitely recommend this place and this burger,

Chris M.

Yelp
Excellent service, good food, plus, they allowed our two slightly "crazy" pups on their patio. They even have a pup menu. My two literally scarfed down the pup cup of chicken sweet potato Menu is a little pricey, however, worth it!
google avatar

Brett E.

Yelp
We were looking for a place to grab a late dinner and J DUB hit the spot. The bar in the back was comfortable and collegial. Staff was friendly. The special deviled eggs were tasty with enough kick to match the sweet apple and bacon toppings. Entrees were fresh and well sized. The fried rockfish in Japanese breadcrumbs was amazing! Definitely will be back!
google avatar

Megan B.

Yelp
Our group stumbled upon this spot when we were looking for something to bring us back to life after a long night out and it was just what we needed. Our server was the sweetest, I wish I got her name but she was friendly and made us feel super welcomed! The food was great and so were the mimosas. I do wish they had a few more options for vegans or those of us with egg allergies but all in all everything was great
google avatar

Jill A.

Yelp
Super Duper breakfast! Service was outstanding and friendly. Great coffee also! Amazing biscuits and gravy. Really!!! Also tried the donut, egg, sausage and bacon sandwich. Yummy! Very happy with everything!
google avatar

Wayne B.

Yelp
Back again. Brought my wife and son this time. She got the Lobster Roll and she loved it!! If you live here in Bend or are passing through the service is great, the vibe is great and the food will more than satisfy it will please the taste buds.
google avatar

Ricky E.

Yelp
Wow- delicious- had the donut burger and a cup of chowder great service and the price was good. 3 for 3 cheers

Kate H.

Yelp
My daughter and I were visiting Bend and really wanted a good burger and fries. The high reviews led us to JDub. The service was good, the fries were really great but sadly their burger was not very good. Completely mediocre - it was basically a frozen patty - tasted just like the burgers I can make at home. We were disappointed and won't be back. :(
google avatar

Connor S.

Yelp
Breakfast all day! A few of us picked out J DUB because my friend was intrigued by the food menu available for your dog! (He didn't initially realize it was the dog menu) Anyways, we arrived and all hopped on the breakfast for dinner train! Everything was delicious! The Doughnut Breakfast Sando, The Mr. October, and a build your own breakfast were all crowd pleasers! Our waitress was incredibly nice and helpful. You could hear the kitchen staff incredibly harmonizing along to the music playing. They also have a bar & outdoor patio in the back of the restaurant. Seems like an underrated spot! And bring your pup along!
google avatar

Kathleen W.

Yelp
The food tasted very processed and unhealthy. For the price and taste, not worth it. The food felt very fried and old. I feel to a certain degree, food is worth it to consume if it's unhealthy and if it's paired with a great taste, this was the worst of both worlds unfortunately and this place was certainly a J L rather than a J Dub
google avatar

Paul A.

Yelp
Great variety, quality and price. Nice atmosphere and the service was great. Loved the biscuits and gravy so much we ordered some to go.
google avatar

Cissy F.

Yelp
We had a great time here with our 2 boxer dogs and the young people we hung out with were so friendly. Service was great and so was the food and beer. Will definitely be back!!

Yelp
While in Bend we wanted to go somewhere that wasn't a brewery... J Dub seemed like a good option. The place is clean and has lots of seating both inside and out. I also noted it is pet friendly with water bowls and a special "pup" menu. I ordered a lobster roll. (I suspect it wasn't real lobster) but it tasted pretty good. I had the chowder on the side. I liked the chowder until I bit into something I could only describe as a clump of flour. My spouse had a chicken sandwich and the sweet potato tots. Both were good. The service was good. It did feel like our waiter was in a bit of a rush, but hey... I got my food and he was friendly. I was gonna whine a bit about the prices but in the bigger picture they are moderately priced. I do wish a lobster roll would be an actual lobster roll (identifiable pieces of lobster and lots of butter). C'est la vie we aren't in Maine. I really want to like this place but there were just enough little things that bugged me I couldn't give it higher than 3 stars.
google avatar

Amanda N.

Yelp
Was craving burgers and yelped didn't disappoint. Such a cute stop with lots of seating. Staff are super friendly and there was no wait. Deviled eggs: 5/5 wow so good especially with pickled onions. The original burger: 4/5 pretty good. The fries were super crispy. Soft shell sandwhich: 5/5 can't find this in a lot of places. Super delicious with their sauce. The sweet potato tots were crispy. Not pictured: I ordered a Bloody Mary and it was delicious! Def recommend coming here.
google avatar

Asha B.

Yelp
Love love loved it. My group of 7 came here for brunch on a Sunday and everything was delicious. I had the soft shell crab sandwich - the size was enough that I took half with me for the drive back to Portland. Their fries are so so good, very well seasoned and crispy. Our drinks were tasty - a little too much ice but otherwise delicious! Staff were friendly, atmosphere and decor were fun. Service was fast and attentive. Definitely recommend.
google avatar

Aubrey R.

Yelp
great experience at this restaurant! the service was super good and the servers were so kind. the deviled eggs were delicious and i also really enjoyed the sweet potato tater tots!
google avatar

Yelp
We visit Bend often and are always looking for new places to eat that are dog friendly. J-Dub's did NOT disappoint! We walked straight to the back patio and found a quaint little area. It was nicely shaded but comfortable with areas of sunshine. They have a cute pup menu! Our food was to-die-for!! Our drinks were just as amazing. Service was top notch!! I wish I remembered our waiters name (Sun 5/11 around 12 pm). He deserves a big shout out! We will be back on our next Bend trip in July with friends from out of town.

Louise H.

Yelp
Our first time in and it was lunch hour. My husband ordered breakfast of pancakes, eggs and bacon. He said it was ok but not warm enough and the bacon seemed like it was held from the morning. I had Huevos Rancheros. It was different than I have had before. There were way too many beans, cabbage also which was unusual. I didn't eat much of it. They served our food in tin pie pans. They were too light and slipped on the paper table cover. The waiter was pleasant enough. I don't know if we'll ever go back or not but it's not likely.
google avatar

Emily C.

Yelp
I needed a blueberry pancake more than I needed to breathe so we came by for dinner. (LOVE that they serve breakfast all day) It was TASTY and the eggs and potatoes were perfect. My husband got chicken strips and they rocked too! Service was excellent, fast and friendly. We got to draw on the table which was fun for me. A casual spot with *high* quality diner food that wasn't greasy or too much. We will be back.
google avatar

Dave B.

Yelp
Friendly staff greeted & seated us! Our waitress was also friendly & knowledgeable about the menu. For starters, we ordered a Blueberry Mint Mojito, which was flavorful, not-too-sweet, with very fresh muddled mint. We also order the Frickles which were served with amazing dilly ranch dip! The pickle chips could be better if they were spears, however they were encased in a nice, crunchy breading. The Pesto Mac featured pasta cooked perfectly, had amazing pesto flavor with light cheese sauce- not heavy & overwhelming. The Chicken Strips came with five LARGE, thick, fresh-tasting pieces of chicken served with a side of crunch, flavorful fries.

Sabrina M.

Yelp
Good service and perfect ambiance for the Duck's game. My favorite was the deviled eggs and fired pickles.

Denny G.

Yelp
Service was a 5/5. Friendly and accommodating. I got the chicken and waffles... which was just one cut in half. So chicken and waffle. The flavor was a little boring but it was breaded nicely. The waffle was fine. Eggs were fine. Bacon was very good though. Overall it's a solid place that seems to have some good people. Based on my one experience with the food, I give it a 3/5. Maybe I need to go more to try more food but I can only rate on my one time there.
google avatar

Willie P.

Yelp
Ate in the patio. Dinner was average and beverage service was slow with no offer for refills. Put off by unleashed dog (Ein) and constant begging and wandering around chairs and under tables. All other pets were under control. Staff seemed to think this was a house dog and normal.

Gary B.

Yelp
We ordered the Mr. October Breakfast and our Server said it was his favorite, but warned us it was a lot of food, so we split it. It was delicious, but still too much food for two us us to finish it all. Service was awesome, friendly and attentive. Ddidn't have to chase him down to place our order or get the check, but it staill has a relaxed, casual vibe. J Dub was the only restaurant serving a late breakfast, other than donuts. I'll go back in a New York minute. I left an item I purchased at a local shop at J Dub's (duh) and they were very gracious in getting it back to be (out of state). I had several very pleasant conversations with J Dub staff to make arrangements. All were polite and helpful.
google avatar

Mike V.

Yelp
Arguably the best and most filling breakfast option in Bend, and a great place to refuel and warm up on cold nights. Will the game be on? Yes. Which game? All of them. As for favorites, the Bloody Mary and spicy Bloody Mary are top notch. The Spanish Coffee is my personal favorite though (grand mar, 151, cinnamon, nutmeg, whipped cream) Favorite dish (if you ask super nicely or root for the Commanders you might get this at breakfast).. the Lobster Mac. Pair that with the chicken fried chicken or biscuits and gravy and split between you and your better half or best mate.

Kathleen M.

Yelp
I felt compelled to write because we were so thrown off by the reviews. I really get tired of this. No way is this a 4.4 As a few honest others said food greasy over fried. Did not taste homemade or fresh ingredients.I had the good morning chimichanga. Was hard as a rock and overly deep fried. I ate the insides out but not much flavor. And not sure if the bacon was bacon bits or just hard & overcooked cuz not much in there. Husband had the pancakes and they were decent.(thats why a 2 star) His eggs ordered as "medium well" uncooked, even the whites were runny. Said to be a special place for dogs.Nothing special. Just a small patio with metal tables and chairs (which others raved about). Many reviewers said they had several drinks.Maybe its the cocktails that enhanced the food?
google avatar

Mike A.

Yelp
We had not been back to J Dub for a few years. Previously we ate breakfast there; more than once, and rated it very high - good service and delicious breakfast menu. Tonight we went for dinner and were disappointed. Burger ($14'): C. Special turkey/bacon/swiss/avocado sandwich ($15): C (and missing key ingredients). Cesar salad add chicken ($17) D. Server was good and professional. Won't be back or recommend for dinner. May try again for brea and hope for the best.

Yelp
One of the best experiences i've had in my life. After an 9 hour drive from Santa Cruz CA, I found this spot close by my airbnb and decided to try it out. It was absolutely DELICIOUS!! It was one of the best things i've ever eaten and would drive to oregon again just for this restaurant. The service was amazing and very friendly, Jon was excellent. I'm going to be searching for a meal similar to this again and i'll never find it other than here.
google avatar

Yelp
We stopped here for breakfast after reading several positive reviews. It looks like we should have sorted those reviews to get the more accurate ones. My wife had a salad which was fine, my son the blueberry French toast, and my daughter got the chicken strips. No complaints on the French toast or salad but the fried chicken had the consistency of chicken that has been under a heat lamp for hours. That kind of dry chicken that you have to pull apart with your hand because no fork is going to penetrate it. The bacon also tasted off, like it was fried and then reheated in a microwave. The biscuits were mediocre, the eggs were ok, there wasn't enough gravy to report back on. Potatoes were fine as well. My daughter ate one of her chicken strips which was also dry, I only finished the eggs and a few potatoes. I will say that the ambience was nice, and our server was very friendly and attentive.

Maureen Z.

Yelp
The food here is big portions and big love. Our family enjoyed the frickles, Mr October, the Donut Sando and the Chicken Fried Chicken. All of it was made with love. Our sever, Becky, treated us so well with prompt service and a smile! The atmosphere is pure Bachelor Bend, with skis and boards on the walls, pics of the mountain and just a feel good vibe. Next time you are looking for a place to head out, J Dub is a great spot. Breakfast all day, and burgers, chicken parm and more if you're ready for lunch or dinner. Dogs welcome on the spacious patio!
google avatar

Julie L.

Yelp
We enjoyed a fun and delicious brunch at JDUB. I just couldn't resist the Bloody Mary with their house made garlic infused vodka. Spice level was not for the faint of heart, but perfectly complimented the chicken fried chicken!, gravy, home fries, and biscuits. One kid ordered the donut burger with egg, bacon, cheese. This novelty was apparently delicious, gone in 60 seconds flat! Portions were perfectly sized. Very friendly service and clientele. The vibe casual...we enjoyed drawing on the paper table covers and sharing them on the wall.
google avatar

Savannah M.

Yelp
Great staff! Amazing food! They have one of the best Ceaser salads and margaritas in town!
google avatar

Chanel T.

Yelp
Pleasant surprise and really tasty brunch! Nice outside area of dogs and had a menu special for the pups. Server was nice and helpful. We ordered the breakfast burrito and it was delicious!!! We will be back.

Harper M.

Yelp
Poor costumer service, took a long time to get a basic order of cheese curds and breakfast food and it wasn't even busy they suck
