Kick Off Memorial Day Weekend With a Chardonnay at These 15 Atlanta-Area Spots | Eater

"Delicious cuts of meat and hearty fare like French onion soup, lobster macaroni and cheese, whipped potatoes, and crab cakes can be found at J Michael’s Prime in Canton. While it’s hard to beat the dining room’s cozy vibes, take your glass of Harken to the balcony and soak up views of the mountains, with its own menu of snacks like charcuterie, truffle fries, and calamari. Wherever you sit, save room for the triple chocolate cake."

I went my first time last night. It was amazing. All the food was top notch! Seafood and steak was out of this world. Jim our server was best in class and did not disappoint! The chef made a visit and brought a special appetizer and desert for my first visit . I can’t say enough I will be back!

Google
This place is and was top notch!! First of all most of the people I was with had never been there so the chef and souschef came out and greeted us with a small what looked like a meatball with a sauce reduction over the top!! WOW!! MELT IN YOUR MOUTH.. than the shrimp cocktail and calamari came out the shrimp were large, the calamari was in very light batter yesterday both melted in your mouth delicious 😋 I had the scratch made lobster ravioli my boyfriend and best friend and her boyfriend had the steaks. The stak was like butter didn't even need a knife to cut it the lobster was done in a creme reduction sauce that there are no words for!! Except for wow and definitely would love to have it again it was rich and the lobster was done to perfection. Than cane the risotto I love risotto and this one was like no other the flavor of the carrots and seasoning were on point that was the best risotto I have had and I love it!! Chris our waitress was top notch kind friendly very knowledgeable about the food when we asked. She was on point with her service. The young man who bagged up our food was super kind friendly and made sure every ounce of food we were taking home was nice and neat in boxes. Hats off to all of them but especially to the chef!!

Tonight, we celebrated our 38 Anniversary here. The place had a warm and inviting atmosphere. We were soon greeted by our waitress, Elaina. Probably one of the best waitresses we've had in a while. She had an infectious smile, and was very attentive to our needs. My wife's steak was cooked to perfection. The food was hot, and delicious. Afterward, we had the White Chocolate Crème Brûlée! Loved it! We're planning to try their brunch soon. Parking is limited, but there is Complimentary Valet Parking.

My experience on Thanksgiving was extremely disappointing. We chose J. Michael’s hoping to experience a higher-end holiday meal, but what we received was comparable to something from Cracker Barrel—not a premium restaurant. Serving Thanksgiving dinner in cardboard containers and tins was the first red flag. The prime rib was thinly sliced, bland, and nothing like what you would expect from a steakhouse. The salad was limp, the sides lacked flavor, and the mashed potatoes contained undercooked chunks. Overall, the quality was shockingly poor. This was especially upsetting because the ownership has a strong reputation for delivering great experiences on other occasions. Unfortunately, this felt like a one-day money grab with very little care put into meeting the high expectations guests have for Thanksgiving. I could have gotten a similar meal elsewhere for $40. At $190 for 2 people. I feel completely taken advantage of.

Google
We just moved to Canton and everyone said this restaurant is outstanding, but tonight was our first and last time. We had a 5 o'clock reservation for Thanksgiving dinner and they were late seating us and it only got worse from there. My son ordered the charcuterie appetizer and it came in a cardboard cup and was less than appetizing. I was looking forward to the autumn squash soup, but that was all gone and luke warm, watered down and tasteless lobster bisque was substituted. The salad was wilted and warm. I ordered the turkey which was dry, tasteless and a very small portion. Others ordered the prime rib and some of the pieces were more fat than meat and very thinly sliced. I think Arby's slices their meat thicker !The sides were obviously boxed or out of a can and the topper was that the desserts were served in a tin cup. Mine was still frozen! There is absolutely no way I will ever recommend this restaurant or return. I know it was Thanksgiving and it was over crowded, but at $68 per person I didn't expect cardboard and tin cups. Needless to say, I dont feel valued as a customer and will discourage others from eating here. If you are going to be open on holiday, don't tank your reputation for profit. Limit the reservations and do the meal well. Don't disrespect your customers and their money.

Google
10/10. This place was amazing. I have dined at many places in north Ga, Woodstock, Alpharetta, Milton, Marietta, Roswell, ect and J Michael’s was an exceptional experience. The dry aged steak was insane, lobster Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes were amazing! Also important to me the hand stuffed blue cheese Olive in the martinis made the difference. Actually the attention to detail with many hand made and same day food creations set this place apart. Will be making this a regular stop.

Went for the first time for my husband's bday being new(er) to the woodstock area. Very welcomed walking in the door by the hostess staff. Not only recognized for it being our first time but also a bday celebration. Chris was our waiter and she was amazing and very personable. We did the Tuesday tomahawk special which was perfect for 2, cooked to perfection and not going to lie, I think the Brussels stole the show. Will be back!

Google
Where do I begin? 🙄 At $68 per person, this meal was massively underwhelming. After being seated well after our reservation, the meal was not as advertised. The appetizers were severed in cardboard, the salad had wilted lettuce and almost no dressing and the autumn soup was gone. And the replacement soup was a “lobster bisque” without a single piece of lobster to be found. The “Prime Rib” was paper thin and tough with no flavor. In a steakhouse environment, one would expect the prime rib to be hand carved to order. This was killed to medium well and barely seasoned if at all. The turkey was completely dry and had no seasoning. Every side dish tasted as if it was out of can. The mashed potatoes were instant, the stuffing was stovetop or boxed, and the green bean casserole was tasteless. Members of my group repeatedly remarked that the food resembled cafeteria options rather than a high end steakhouse. To finish off the meal, the desert options were severed in aluminum tins and were basically frozen. In addition to the very lack luster food, the service was not what would be expected from a higher end restaurant. Servers reaching over everyone, not a single staff member asked how we enjoyed the meal, and how are family style sides severed without serving spoons? I understand it was Thanksgiving & I’m really saddened to read other reviews of this establishment that indicated amazing food and service on a non-holiday night but our experience did not match. Maybe the establishment was over capacity and under resourced and that impacted the experience? But I was really looking forward to this meal and the experience did not live up to the hype.

Yelp
One of the highest quality restaurants in Canton the service was wonderful. This time we had our. Great Pyrenees and they treated him wonderful.

Yelp
This was a special occasion for my mom's birthday! We started with Caesar salad & oysters kale-feller. For the main mom/JJ had a shellfish tower(3 tiers) & I ordered the wet aged New York strip (medium) with garlic mashed potatoes (real garlic on top) and broccoli. We ended with crème brûlée & a cute happy birthday treat from the house. Shoutout to our server & the GM for being the cherry on the top! Ambience is casual/dress up, dim lighting, a place to go and slow down for a minute.

Yelp
J Michael Prime is truly the place to be for a special occasion or a superb night out! The service has been outstanding every time we've visited. We've enjoyed both the cozy booths for a more intimate evening and the 4-seater tables when dining with friends. For our 34th anniversary, we ordered the tomahawk steak special with sides -- hands down the most tender and delicious steak I've ever had at a restaurant. We finished the evening with my favorite dessert, Crème Brûlée, which was absolutely chiefs kiss delightful . If you're looking for a memorable dining experience with excellent service and top-notch food, J Michael Prime is a must!

Yelp
MOCKTAILS! I was so excited to see the lengthy mocktail menu on our last visit to J Michael. Not only were the mocktails top shelf, they also looked so beautiful. Most canton restaurants are behind the times with mocktails, and if they serve them it's in a beer pint glass and full of sugar. J Michael's bartender is impressive and I can't wait to try more next time. Also our server was great, I can't recall her name but she mentioned she had worked there for about five years

Yelp
We had the most amazing time at J. Michael's Prime! It was our first visit there and we will definitely be back! Our server Loren was top notch!! She made sure we were taken well care of! The birthday girl, our daughter, asked for wine suggestions and Loren gave her great advice! The adventurous birthday girl had the elk and RAVED about it. My husband and I each had steaks which were prepared perfectly. I highly recommend the blue crab Oscar on your steak! The manager came to our table more than once to check on us and made us feel so special! She even remembered the birthday girl's name when they brought her dessert! What a special night it was!!!

Yelp
I want to share my recent dining experience! From the service to the food and ambiance, everything was absolutely perfect. If you are looking for an exceptional evening, this is definitely the place to be! During our most recent visit, Hayden was our server & provided outstanding service. However, I must say that service from everyone is always exceptional. Thanks for consistently delivering such a memorable dining experience! Your team's dedication to excellence shines through. See you soon!

Yelp
I cannot say enough, good things about the quality of their food and service. When you want to go out to a special place, you want everything to be just right, and they consistently have mastered the art! From beautiful presentation to amazing flavors, and a well trained staff That seamlessly works together. I wish I had more photographs, but I was having too much fun

Yelp
First off, this review is like 5 years late!!! We've ordered from here for takeout, dined here for Thanksgiving twice and came here for other random celebrations. During the pandemic, this place was a life saver for fine dining at home! LOL! This place is really good! I found them on Yelp after trying to locate an upscale steakhouse that was closer to me (in Marietta) and that had good reviews. This checks off all the boxes! I can't say I've ever had a bad meal here. They also offer options for kids which is very convenient. I'm sure we'll be back some time in the near future.

Yelp
One of the best steakhouses in town, and would likely get way more hype if it weren't so far out there. Service was excellent, very attentive with several folks helping the main waiter we had. Drinks were good, with some pretty interesting cocktails and a hefty and very reasonably priced wine list. Steaks and cuts are a standout for sure, with more prime cuts, wet aged and dry aged selection than anywhere else in town. Sides selection was good as well, the cauliflower probably the most unique in terms of presentation. Brussels were good and mushrooms fantastic options. Don't usually go for dessert but given the occasion, everyone got something and everyone was pleased. Triple choc cake and turtle cheesecake were my personal favorites. Only slight stain on our experience was my wife's steak. She's celiac and they knew up front the glaze the steaks typically came out on were not safe to eat. However it still came out that way, and when it was noticed and called out. They took it back and the replacement came out within minutes. Did they prepare another steak that quickly? Have one already on the works? Or just wiped it off and replated? Hard to say, and my wife took a charcoal pill and ate it and thankfully didn't get sick. Would've been nice had the request regarding a food allergy been addressed up front instead of needing callout and correction. Would still be back and give it another shot.

Yelp
Just a quick update to an already 5 star restaurant. J Michale's is a fabulous steakhouse but if you don't know, they run specials almost every day of the week. So on Mondays they put out this amazing fried chicken special. Yes a chicken special from a steakhouse. You would be amazed. I'm not, because I know that everything J Michale's puts out is fantastic. So it's a 2 person chicken special. 8 pieces of crispy on the outside, tender and juicy in the inside, chicken (full bird). 4 huge pieces of the best corn bread around. So moist. 2 of any sides on the menu and there are some good ones. And a peppercorn white gravy that's out of this world. What a delicious dish. Next on my list is Sushi Tuesday!

Kathleen T M.

Yelp
team was fantasti! the airline chicken was superb, so much so I'm trying to make the recipe. thank you for all you did for my uncle's memorial luncheon. KT

Yelp
Made reservations for an anniversary dinner and we were seated right away when we arrived. We were in a small room adjacent to the main dining room and it was nice and had a tv playing a fireplace scene. But it wasn't as moody as the rest of the restaurant ambience. They have a good variety of nonalcoholic beverages here and not just your typical "virgin daiquri", there were 0 alcohol wines, beers, and cocktails. For dinner we both had ribeye, one bone in and one without. I liked that they both came with seared garlic on the side. The steaks tasted good and were cooked just how we asked for them to be but there wasn't really anything about them that made me think "wow! This is worth $90" You know? My husband got a side of bone marrow and I think it is a great portion for the price. The side dishes were hot and we loved all 3. The wedge salad had a lot of dressing but it was not overwhelming because it didn't have too much tang or blue cheese "ness". It was a great balance. I loved it. The chocolate cake was to die for and a great way to end our anniversary dinner. They also packed up all of our leftovers and bagged them. All in all, great experience.

Yelp
This is an update to my previous negative review. I want to thank the owner, Mr. Farrar, for his very prompt professional response to my issues. Our experience with J. Michael's in the past has been very good and I'm confident it will be when we dine there again in the near future. This is a great example of how a legitimate customer concern should be handled.

Patrick T.

Yelp
Really impressed with this restaurant!!! I was back in Canton for a 40 year HS reunion so a few friends and I went to dinner here. Very, very happy that we did! The service was excellent from the hostess at the beginning of the evening to our fantastic server and lastly to the manager who came by our table to thank us for choosing J. Michael's for our dinner together. The food was also top notch. All 4 steaks were cooked perfectly and the sides were exceptional also. The waiter brought us a nice starter as well and said it was "compliments of the chef" for choosing their restaurant for the special occasion. I had not been in Canton for over 30 years and it has changed. I believe the only steak option back then would have been a Sizzler or Western Sizzlin. The growth of the area has certainly brought some better options but this has to be the best! I was impressed with every aspect of our dining experience, and will be back again soon (certainly not another 30 years). Great job J. Michael's and Thank You!

Yelp
Very attentive service. Unusual food options and always a great take on bread pudding. If you like the bar, they have some great after dinner drinks available there and in the main dining.

Yelp
As always, the food and service here is top notch! I brought my father here for his 84th birthday. I ordered the prime ribeye as did he. It did not disappoint! We also ordered the large creamed corn and brussel sprouts. The ribeye was outstanding and cooked perfectly! We each ordered an alcoholic drink which were wonderfully made. The ambience is warm and inviting. We had three managers stop by to check on us and our meal. Our server was attentive, but not intrusive. My father got a free dessert which we shared - a chocolate mousse cake. I had a couple of bites. I highly recommend J Michael Prime!

Yelp
I love this place, but recently had a not so great experience. I appreciate that Frank immediately reached out to me. He informed me that the situation has been resolved. I wish I could get myself to bring back up to 5 stars, but the issue we had there put a damper on a very important evening. Hopefully my next visit will be another 5 star experience, and if so, I will update my review then.
google avatar

Meredith A.

Yelp
Made reservations for my husband's birthday based on a friend's recommendation and this place did not disappoint! Best steak I've had in the states! I'm looking forward to coming back as our wonderful server had extensive knowledge of the menu, answered all of our questions and recommend several delicious sounding things on the menu other than steak so there's something for everyone. We both got the prime boneless ribeye. It was so delicious! We brought the leftovers home for the next day. We ordered too many sides because we couldn't decide and know next time what's most important to us so we don't over order. Definitely will be back! Can't say that I'll be able to pry my eyes away from the ribeye to try something else but I'm ok with that! 10 stars!
google avatar

Amy M.

Yelp
The service is superb! Jason was our server and what a gem! We stopped here on our way back home from dropping our doggie off for cremation...an emotional day to say the least. Even the hostess was compassionate when she asked if it was our first time and heard that it was and why we stopped. The food is amazing! I would pick this over most steakhouses. The drinks are delicious and spot on! I will be coming back for my birthday! Bring your piggy bank as it is a bit pricey but totally worth every penny for the amount and quality of food you get. I had the lamb loin and brussel sprouts. My hubby had the prime ribeye with garlic mashed potatoes. I ordered a mixed drink and hubby had a beer. We even had a dessert. It was all fantastic!
google avatar

Adrienne M.

Yelp
First visit tonight for my birthday. Everything was great. Food was fresh, sauces homemade, service outstanding. We had the calamari for an appetizer. It was cooked perfect and the included house made chile sauce was delicious. Would recommend/would go again.

Jim G.

Yelp
2025 September: visited on a Wednesday afternoon, wow the place was Poppin, lots of cocktails and sushi getting served. Also attended a private event and enjoyed the New York strip. Every employee from the waiters, bartenders, valets, and the manager were next level riendly and professional. If you're gonna spend a few buckaroos and wanna have a nice evening, this is a place with serious consideration. I'll be headed back just to try the sushi. Oh, and they don't skimp all the drinks, they go to the rim, Jim :-).
google avatar

Tracy B.

Yelp
Disappointing experience Nov 30, 2024 - we had a group of six and our NY Stripe was undercooked and not as good as our last time. Also, the waiter didn't have a good personality and when we mentioned something about the asparagus, he just said I will let the cook know and walked away. It wasn't a good experience this time compared to our past experiences.
google avatar

Cindy J.

Yelp
Service was absolutely amazing. Emma was taking care of me and wife for brunch, where we had the daily special and couldn't be better. The other helper was also great, kept our table clutter free and waters full. Can't recommend Emma or J Micheal's any higher and have already booked a dinner reservation for next week. Ask for Emma!

philomena g.

Yelp
This is one of the best steakhouses I have ever been to. Definitely a must try!! Meatballs are to die for, steak martini is great off the bar menu, just overall a phenomenal experience every time!!

B.L B.

Yelp
Everything was outstanding, especially our server EMMA! She was so accommodating and able to help us make our selections. The food was served nicely and everyone's steak was coked perfect. After an extra large party left it was pleasant to have conversation at our table.

Yelp
Brunch at J. Michael Prime was absolutely delicious! Pictured is the BLT with fries. The bacon was prime, the tomatoes were homegrown, and the lettuce was crisp. Probably the best BLT I've ever had. The Rose was the perfect pairing! Not pictured, but highly recommended, is Frankie's Sunshine Platter and Eggs Benedict. Give it a try if you're in the area on a Saturday morning/afternoon.

Yelp
Tried this for the first time finally!! So glad we did and it will be not be the last. Highly recommend the meatball with risotto appetizer, we tried the ceaser salad as well and that was good very fresh although the dressing was a little lighter than I prefer. The steaks and every side we tried were amazing. Steaks cooked perfectly and excellent cuts. Highly recommend the creamed spinach it was my favorite of all the sides and save room for dessert. The chocolate cake is heavenly. Every member of staff from valet to server was attentive and pleasant. Everyone was so attentive and friendly. I loved the vibe of the whole place and hope to enjoy the patio on our next visit with its beautiful view.

Paul T.

Yelp
My wife and I visited here for the first time this week. Not sure why we waited so long. We were celebrating our 25th Anniversary dinner and we wanted a place that we knew wouldn't disappoint. We've followed Shelly with her restaurants since she owned the Corner Bistro in Towne Lake, and of course RCB in Canton, so we knew we were in good hands. Service was outstanding, food was delicious -- we had the oysters Kalefellar for an appetizer, the lobster special for our entrees, and a complimentary white chocolate raspberry bread pudding for dessert. Everything was so good, including the martinis we ordered. We received complimentary flutes of champagne to toast our special day along with a card to commemorate the event. We'll definitely be back soon!

Yelp
If you're in or near Georgia and looking for an exceptional dining experience, you absolutely *must* visit J. Michael's Prime in Canton, GA. From the moment you walk in, you'll be treated to spectacular food, a warm and inviting ambiance, and top-tier service. Their menu is a culinary treasure trove, featuring fresh, flavorful dishes that span steaks, poultry, seafood, sushi and are open for brunch on Saturdays.. All the food expertly prepared and absolutely delicious. Every bite, every sip is a delight. The management team--John, Frank, and Lucas--are not only personable but truly excel at creating an unforgettable experience for their guests. Don't miss the chance to make J. Michael's Prime your go-to destination for incredible dining!

Lydia D.

Yelp
My friends and I were excited to attend the Galentine's Brunch after hearing great things, but unfortunately, our experience did not meet expectations--especially given the $60 per person price. The family-style portions were insufficient for our table of six (e.g., shrimp and grits barely served three). We had to repeatedly ask about additional portions, and service felt unaccommodating, even for simple requests like hot tea. To make matters worse, my friend's card was charged $465, tip & taxes and the receipt was taken away without signature as we were trying to figure out how to handle the situation. Meanwhile, a nearby party with twice the guests received significantly more food. This experience left us deeply dissatisfied. My friend has already contacted the manager with no resolution, so I am now sharing our concerns publicly.

Yelp
We celebrated our 27th anniversary here. I cannot say enough about the level of service we received to make our night special and enjoyable. The charcuterie board was different than others we've had, packed full of a variety of delicious items. The Ribeye was beautifully split onto 2 plates, without asking, perfect temperature and sear and we loved the wine reduction! The garlic mashed potatoes had chunks of roasted garlic, so freakin good! The creamed corn was well seasoned and spicy. The blackberry mule is a must as well. For dessert, we had a decadent chocolate cake with layers of mousse and ganache. We will definitely be back, thank you.

Yelp
It was our first time trying this local restaurant and we had a great experience from the moment we walked in. The ambience, food and service were exceptional. Our server Kris was fantastic! She was efficient and very friendly. We will definitely return soon!

Bryan M.

Yelp
Food- Our food was nothing short of spectacular! With 5 in our party, various offerings were selected. From Dry-aged steak, Lobster special, Double Cut Pork Chop and their Steak & Frites were all served warm and delicious. The same was true for the sides of Creamed Spinach, Brussels Sprouts, et al. Service- Our server was Chris. She did a wonderful job, was friendly, prompt and attentive. Ambiance- the lighting was a bit dark but keep in mind we're older, so our eyes don't work as well... ha!ha! Other than that it was a very comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. In short we spent 3 hours there enjoying each other's company. 'Nuff said... A very enjoyable experience. Make the reservation!

Yelp
I love this place: it's on the small side, which actually is more good than bad since it doesn't add to a busy stressful night out. Service is always great and the food the phenomenal! I can't go Here much as it's pricey - but well worth the occasional date night or business luncheon.

Patrick M.

Yelp
Everything you would expect from a top tier steak house. The restaurant staff were excellent. Great bar and dining room. Most importantly their food was amazing!

Kevin J.

Yelp
Enjoyed brunch today! Eggs Benedict for me and my wife had the croque madame. Both were amazing and the side of bacon was remarkable! Great service and atmosphere! We'll be back for brunch for sure!

Yelp
I've always heard great things about J. Michael's so I decided to give it a shot. The food was extremely tasty. The cocktails 10/10... you have to get the raspberry rosemary martini. Our servers name was Kris and she was amazing. She made sure we had an incredible experience. Her personality lights up the room and her customer service is top of the line. We will def go back and ask for Kris.

Rachel W.

Yelp
My husband, 3 year old daughter, and I dined at J Michael's Prime for a rehearsal dinner and had excellent service from Jason. Even during a 50- person special event, I felt like it was personal service.
google avatar

Kathy V.

Yelp
As always, JMP delivered impeccable service! Karston was our server and Ash was his assistant. Together, they worked in tandem to make sure our experience was phenomenal. Our meal started with some gratuitous homemade chips and fench onion dip. Absolutely phenomenal! My husband and I ordered the Prime Ribeye which was wonderfully marbled and cooked to perfection at medium rare. We also had the garlic mashed potatoes and creamed corn. I highly recommend them!
google avatar

Andrew H.

Yelp
The food and service here is always top notch. Some of my personal favs are the wet aged lollipop fillet, lobster bisque, and cheesecake. The Caesar salad is mediocre, though.

Yelp
One of my favorite restaurants to visit. The food and service is consistent every single visit!

Yelp

Yelp
Hi quality food and service, I fully recommend this restaurant. Great for entertaining customers, family or company event.

Jon C.

Yelp
Top notch steak - we had the wet aged ribeye and none in ribeye. Excellent service from Connor and nice ambience. Drinks - alcoholic and mock tails were great. Not cheap but totally worth it.

Yelp
Favorite steak restaurant in this area. We've been here about 4 times already since we've moved here 2 years ago. And it never disappoints. For appetizers, we always do the charcuterie board. I love when a place gives honeycomb on their boards. You know it's good. And raw oysters. I always get the bone in rib-eye medium rare and it's cooked the perfection every single time. Sides: Brussels sprouts and lobster Mac and cheese. The one item I dislike is the creamed corned. I like it on the sweeter side and this is definitely more savory. Service is always amazing. Make sure you make reservations because it does get busy. Bring cash to tip the valet. Valet is free though.

Phillip K.

Yelp
Had the Steak & Frites. Was delicious and a great portion. Johnny who is the GM was a huge help to our family gathering. Carson and Heather were our servers who were real champs dealing with a large party. Very happy with our experience and I recommend this for anyone in the area.

Ryan R.

Yelp
Been coming here for years and the last two times this year were disappointing to say the least. Came early at 5 pm with reservation to only a hand full of customers seated and sit in the middle of the room two feet from another couple. Open tables all around to be seated on top of another couple made no sense, if busy yes. The server clearly not in the mood to be at work and when asked after about 20 minutes if they would be bringing out the bread that is normally brought out I was told you have to specifically as for it now. Food was ok nothing to brag about which in the past was not the case. Unfortunately this seems to be problem with their other location Riverstone Corner Bistro which has also gone down hill with quality and scores. Now this establishment has slipped into the 80's with their DPH score.
