Yelp
Came here on a Friday night and joined the waitlist using Yelp check-in to beat the crowd--but the evening started off on the wrong foot. Even though we were already checked in, the host/server didn't acknowledge us for over 10 minutes, instead focusing on her phone and inputting whatever into the POS system in front of us.. Four tables were open, yet she gave no explanation for the delay. To make matters worse, a couple walked in moments later and she greeted them right away. That left a sour first impression, and I was glad she wasn't the one serving us.
After another 5 minutes (after I confronted her to acknowledge us), we were seated in the modern, upscale dining area--right in front of the dumpling-making station (which we joked might have been worth the wait)--things improved dramatically. Our actual server provided excellent service, checking on us regularly and making the meal relaxing.
What we tried:
* Xiao Long Bao - Perfect skin texture and thickness, holding all the soup inside. Didn't even need sauce. We ordered three rounds since the kids devoured them like candy.
* Pan-Fried Scallops & Shrimp Jiaozi - Juicy on the inside, crispy on the bottom. Dipped in the signature sauce, it was spot-on.
* Shrimp Chow Mein - Made with thinner egg noodles than usual, which gave the dish a lighter, slightly sweet profile. Skipped the onions, and it still worked perfectly for our taste.
* Plums Braised Pork Belly with Rice - Flavorful sauce that mixed beautifully with the rice, but the pork itself was dry and tough. The kids usually love this dish but skipped it this time, likely due to the texture.
* Tofu Skin Shrimp Roll - Exactly as described: two large, well-cooked prawns wrapped in crispy tofu skin. The sauce helped tone down the white pepper kick, though not as kid-friendly.
* Okra with Dressed Seasoning - Refreshing and presented in a way that made it easy to grab and dip for a perfect bite-sized snack.
Aside from the rocky start, the service at our table was excellent, and the food quality--especially the dumplings--was impressive. Just hope the front-of-house experience matches the kitchen next time.
