Chicagoan Patrick Bertoletti Scarfs Down 58 Hot Dogs to Win Nathan’s Famed Eating Contest | Eater Chicago

"A 73-year-old California-based fast-food chain known for burgers, tacos, and regionally specific menu items is planning a Chicago-area comeback after roughly four decades, aiming to open eight mostly suburban 24-hour restaurants (including Tinley Park, Naperville, and Plainfield) and one city location near Midway Airport between 2025 and 2026; the chain already operates nine locations in downstate Illinois." - Naomi Waxman

KFC Brings Back Rudy as Colonel Sanders in New Commercial | Eater

"Participating in the same stunt-driven contest for chicken publicity, the chain ran a playful 'leaning tower of poultry' promotion, illustrating how fast-food brands are using gimmicky, spectacle-focused marketing to vie for attention in the post-sandwich, hype-centric landscape." - Greg Morabito

Jack in the Box Adds Even More Patties to Its Chicken Sandwich | Eater

"The chain revived a novelty "more is better" chicken sandwich that originally debuted in 1995 and was reintroduced with an option of up to four breaded chicken patties. The sandwich uses a hamburger bun with lettuce, sliced tomato, mayonnaise, bacon and Swiss-style cheese layered between two to four school-lunch-style chicken patties, resulting in a tall, onion-ring–like appearance. Critics argue that stacking multiple breaded chicken patties magnifies common problems—dryness, saltiness, sharp breading edges and unwieldy thickness—making the approach feel like a low-effort quantity-over-quality play rather than a focus on improving the chicken itself." - Brenna Houck

Burger King’s New Tacos Are Crispy Shells Filled With Beef for a Dollar | Eater

"Although primarily perceived as a burger-and-sandwich purveyor, tacos are an enormously popular and lucrative item for this chain — selling roughly 1,000 orders of tacos per minute — and the company has even experimented with tiny versions of its most popular taco. That strong demand has helped position the crunchy beef taco as a major revenue driver and a product other burger-focused chains look to emulate." - Greg Morabito

First time here at this location. Food was okay and welcoming used an open ordering station inside. It took about 45 minutes for two combos. The food was okay but it's too far of a drive fir us just to have to wait for so long for fast food. Hopefully they get better and at least the management did what they could to try to compensate the waiting customers inside.

I recently visited a new place in Seattle that is known for its hot and fresh food, and I was really excited to find out they were opening a location here. We ended up waiting over 30 minutes outside and another 20 minutes inside just to place our order. DA Jayla was very nice and calm throughout the process. Unfortunately, it took about 30 minutes to get our food, and when it arrived, it was cold, and the salad was frozen. To make matters worse, they were out of chicken sandwiches and receipt paper. Our order number was written on yellow paper since the mobile app wasn’t working for my points, and the mobile kiosks were down as well. The lines outside were long, and it seemed like people weren’t being attended to. The expediter at the front was moving incredibly slowly, and some staff in the back were goofing off. One person even walked in with a backpack. I noticed a girl chewing gum, and another girl at the register, who relieved the previous cashier, was drinking soda and had long nails. Corporate really needs to address the issues at this location.

Google
What a disappointment!!!! First you get trapped in the drive thru because they have a curb to prevent you from leaving . We got stuck in the line for 1 hour and 27 min. We asked for a discount for our wait and was told nope sorry after that long of a wait we paid. The lady promised the food was fresh, it was disgusting and unacceptable to put that crap out to a customer. The bun was hard the burger was dried out and cold , the cheese wasn’t even melted. Then they closed the store. I couldn’t even get my food remade. I have no clue what we could have been possibly waiting for if all of the food was old. Do not go here !

If the place has a long line inside and out then leave. If the kiosk is available. Skip the line by using the kiosk. I dont recomend ordering alot because they will mess up the order. The reciepts dont specify what you ordered. Place is new. Tacos are not worth buy8ng. Go to tacobell. JiB haz the worst tacos. Regular fries are too salty. The curly fried have like everywhere else been greasy. Sour doug chease burger was not as good a a whopper from BK. I asked for it to be well done and it wasnt. The bacon cheesburger was great. I only tasted it. All the cheeses in this restaurant are great quality. The tomatoes and lettuce, bacon. Are top quality too. Loaded curlys where good becsuse of the cheese. The cooks need more time to be great. But so far avoid the tacos. I wont be coming back to try the other stuff like eggrolls etc. Maybe in 12 months.

Finally visited the place, despite all of the negative customer reviews and claims. However, I must have gotten really lucky when I got there, because the restaurant wasn't terribly busy for a weekday at noon. Also, the food wasn't bad, but not exactly much more unique or better than something from McDonald's-Got a Jumbo Jack with fries and some tiny tacos. I did appreciate the avocado lime sauce though. The biggest problems with my experience involved everything else. The lobby was packed with people just waiting for orders (One lady had reportedly been waiting for two hours). While I could forgive the staff for not being very cordial, the cashier's face said everything to me about how overwhelmed they were; at least they weren't rude. Waited for about 36 minutes after ordering before I was able to leave with my food, and all the while, the dining area was full of disinterested faces and sterile decoration, accompanied by occasional jabs at the staff from disrespectful customers. TLDR; My experience, while not as bad as some others, definitely was underwhelming. And, while the food is alright, the place needs better management and more inviting staff before I consider returning.

Google
It was our first time here at Jack in The box in Tinley Park. The food was decent but the duration of waiting for our food was below average. It wasn't bad for the price we paid. It's almost like Wendy's Taco Bell and Arby's combined their items together and created Jack in the box! Lol🤷‍♂️ long story short, I'd probably still go back there....

Google
The first time that I EVER used a drive-thru was a Jack In The Box when I was in college. That was fast, easy, and delicious. And the clown head was the only drive thru ANYWHERE. Today, after many decades I came here to the brand new Jack, in Orland Park. Friendly, courteous staff. A bit pricey for a double 🍔 and onion rings...$12.39. Checked out at 5:24 pm. Got the food at 5:43 pm. So VERY GLAD that I didn't use the drive in which had a very long and slow line. 🍔 was decent(for fast food). Kind of like Hardee's. The onion rings were very good. The iced tea was Gold Peak, I believe. I will try them again some time in the future. Hopefully they'll have the service improved.

Google
This was our first time eating at a Jack-in-the-box. I was amazed to see to the cars wrapped around the parking lot for the drive thru. We went inside to order and there was also a big line of people, including those waiting to get their food. However, everyone seemed to be in a pleasant mood (staff and patrons). My ticket order number was 3101, which tells me there has been a lot of customers here today prior to 7pm.

Yelp
The App doesn't work so you can never earn points for food discounts. The burgers and onion rings are decent.

Yelp
When typing in the ZIP Code for the Tinley Park Orland Park area it says there are no restaurants in this location however, there is one at 179th and Lagrange Road, which would be Tinley Park. Cannot tell if this location is open or closed. Sometimes it's open while other days it appears to be closed. When I contacted JITB about the issues with the Ap they said it was being worked on. That was 3 months ago. There is another in New Lenox and that location does not appear on the Ap either. Not sure if they have service issues too.

Yelp
Everything needs improvement!!! I went thru the drive thru, there were maybe 5 cars ahead, and it took over 30 minutes!!!! When i finally got to the window I looked in to see what was going on, and half of them were in there goofing off!!! I got my food, it was cold!!!! Absolutely terrible!!! I am PISSED !!!

Yelp
I was looking forward to the return of Jack In The Box. This location is off to a very poor start. Unfortunately the problems are with all levels of management: - Upper management by not being prepared to launch. I was drawn in to use the online application Taco Special Offer. Because this location is not yet recognized by the application, the server could not honor my discount request. I was charged the regular price of 50% more money. - The store manager, Amelia refused to override the problem, either because of very poor judgement on her part or because upper management hasn't granted her the option to do so. - When I wanted to cancel the transaction and vacate the line, by design, unusually large concrete barricades prevented me from leaving without the certainty of inficting certain damage to my car. - The server Diamond ignored my request to double bag my order, so my food was cold when I arrived at my home. - By design, the charming drive thru Jack In The Box talking clown has been replaced by a very ordinary strikingly cheap display panel. - Shame on everyone concerned. It's like you're intentionally trying to aggravate your customers, by design.

Yelp
I waited some time before trying out this new location (in a whole new area/state) due to the long lines I saw when driving by. Know start up kinks for the QSR space is huge when there is no existing local staff nearby :-) Drive thru experience was good. Today out of tomatoes and fountain drinks. Not a problem, just a long explanation to each customer :-) I ordered the $10 munchie meal. Double Jack with tacos and curly fries with a unsweetened ice tea. Impressed with the box meal presentation. The "small" drink seemed more like a medium to me :-) Tacos were actually a decent size and yummy. Burger was fresh, although less exciting. Curly fries hit the spot. At $10 (+ tax) this combo beats most of the local competition I think for value and size. Once the owner/manager gets more of the kinks sorted out, it will only get better. I did also notice that the location is not available in the Jack mobile app, nor could I add the barcode from my receipt to my account :-(

Yelp
I came here today a little after they opened. The drive thru screen was not working so they asked everyone to come inside. I ordered the $10 munchie meal. I had the Double jack, two tacos, onion rings, and a fountain drink. I also ordered a junior chicken sandwich on the side just to try later. I think my favorite thing was probably the tacos. I did really enjoy those. They had a lot of flavor. The burger was good but needed more seasoning. The onion rings were fine. I did not like the chicken sandwich much. I probably wouldn't get that again. The staff was very friendly and quick. I waited under 10 minutes for my food. The restaurant was clean and nice inside.

Yelp
Food was 5 stars and service was 1 star. No excuse for how badly this place is being run. I know its new but we waited an hour and 20 minutes for our order. It was only a couple of burgers. The lines there are still long and so is the wait time. I will not return for a couple of months.

Jack K.

Yelp
Service is UNBELIEVABLY SLOW!!! I went in to avoid the drive-thru line. They locked the doors after we entered so no one else could come in and order. At 5:15 pm on Saturday. The people who had ordered ahead of us, 10 numbers ahead, had been waiting for an HOUR! They were too polite to complain. They were short-staffed because many employees called in sick. However I sort of blame them for hiring their staff. How about some high school kids who would actually move quickly? There is one guy who actually cares, but he couldn't get the other employees to do much. I've said this before but either they don't have procedures, or no one here follows them. Watching the guy put cheese on burgers is like a three stooges skit. Gave them 2 stars because the food is good, service is negative stars.

Yelp
So I placed my order @ the kiosk at 3:09pm. Didn't receive it until 3:52pm. The order was wrong cold and incomplete. Place was chaotic. I the tacos and rings but I won't be back.

Yelp
Service person at door wouldn't let us in. She told us to close the door in order to keep the flies out. Whaaat? FYI: it was just starting to rain. Flies fly in the rain? Who knew?

Yelp
The ultimate breakfast burrito is where it's at. I get everyone complaining that this service is slow. But it's new to the area, it's management from out of state. The service is definitely on the learning curve, they have to hire low skill workers to get you prices like these, it takes time to get everyone up to speed. Be kind. The two tacos for $1.50 is the best deal in fast food. The taco sauce packets are my new favorite sauce ! The hash browns are a bit TOO crispy , I can't believe I'm saying that. McDonald's are too soggy. Maybe nothing would make me happy! lol I'm so glad we have Jack in the Box here now! It's a great new addition to our Chicago fast food line up! Thank you to the workers at this location, you will straighten it all out I am confident!

Yelp
Abby at the Jack in the Box in Tinley Park IL, provided one of the worst managerial experiences I've had in a long time. I ordered a bacon and Swiss Smashburger, which on the menu is a number 3. Got home and realized that they gave me a completely different sandwich. So I drove 15 minutes back to the restaurant to get the sandwich that I ordered. The manager, Abby, went back-and-forth with me for 5 minutes claiming that the sandwich I ordered was what I received. I had to open up the box for her to see that they were completely different sandwiches for her to finally just agree to give me what I ordered. And through all of that, she never even apologized for their mistake. Even after I called her back to the counter to let her know that all she had to do was apologize for their mistake, she still didn't even offer an apology. She clearly does not seem to have the managerial disposition that top quality customer service calls for.

Gabriela P.

Yelp
I lived in California for about 12 years and jack in the box was my go to spot, now knowing they just opened up in Chicago or I mean in the burbs I drove all the way to this location and got amazing service. Nottttttttt! The service sucked, we waited over an hour for our food and it was all smashed up missing condiments missing lettuce, tomato's. Basically it was thrown together, the drive thru was crazy people were screaming and yelling about the wait and associates looked like they did not know what they were doing and had attitudes, they didn't have certain things on the menu which sucked big time so I had to get something different and then when I got it it was cold and the meat was dry I don't know how long you Jack In The Box will last it will probably be just like Fat Burger if you don't change I would not even give the food you guys gave me to my dog how embarrassing. One star isn't even deserved. Watch out for hair in your food disgusting
google avatar

Yelp
Over cooked tacos. I don't think they changed the oil since they've opened. super greasy, and why are they putting hot sauce on the tacos when I didn't ask for hot sauce ?

Cheryl B.

Yelp
45 minutes wait for 2 chicken finger combos and 2 grilled chicken wraps. When we got the tenders those were ok, but the wraps... There was a smell. Opened one of the wraps and the grilled chicken was green. The chicken also looked raw at the top. There was way too much ranch. But when we opened up the other wrap, same thing, green. Observing the other people who had been inside they had been waiting just as long for their food and when they received there were different issues. Many of them also requested refunds. There was a point where there was so many customers complaining about they didn't get this or that the manager literally was providing whatever was available stating, take this I don't care, whether it be different size drinks, food or desserts. Coming out of the restaurant the drive thru was packed. There was complaints with that too, people weren't getting orders correct, coming in from drive thru, etc. ... This was the first time I ate at this franchise and was not happy. Technically didn't eat myself because I had ordered those wraps that went right into the garbage. This location I do not recommend to anyone.

Dave C.

Yelp
Walked in to the store at about 430 p.m. on a friday. There were 5-6 people waiting around, but they had ordered and were waiting for food. Went to the counter and wasn't acknowledged, but then figured out that I had to use the kiosk. Kiosk is a bit confusing as you have to click on the meal in order to get just the sandwich. Anyway, ordered 2 burgers, an order of fries and an order of onion rings. Then waited.....and waited....and waited. it took 33 minutes to get the order. While orders were backing up, the manager had 2 employees on break. I understand that they need breaks, but you send them BEFORE or AFTER the dinner rush. I saw at least 2 people walk in, not be acknowledged, and walk out. Got the food home and it was decent, but not worth the almost $30 and not worth the 30 minute wait. I may go back, but if it looks even remotely busy, I'm leaving.

Jeff K.

Yelp
Waited about an hour to get through a drive thu line of less than 10 cars before they took our order. Then waited another 20 minutes to get to the window. Waited another 10-15min to get the order. They forgot an entire half of our order that we had to remind them of. Still forgot an order of fries. Fries tasted of old oil. Burgers were dry and thin - in no way are they the "Best Burgers" as their shirts claim. Didn't look anything like the menu image. One of the two burger orders was missing several components. Listened to the workers go back and forth about missing items, about customers being "held hostage" in the drive thru line. The guy at the window seemed like he was tired as he probably listens to complaints about speed and missing items. Having seen the extremely long lines there before, we assumed it was just a popular location since they opened. Now we know the location is not properly run or trained. Please -- do not give this location your patronage. We watched them lose business as the cars lined up and eventually gave up and left.
google avatar

Dave D.

Yelp
The food is garbage.not at all what I remember in seattle.the only good thing is the curly fries. The burger was so skinny it's pathetic. Never again.tge service is weak as well. Took over 30 minutes to get 2 burgers and fries.

Yelp
The service at Jack in the Box in Tinley Park is horrendous! They have been open over a month, the drive up line was around the whole building, so I went in and was told there would be an hour wait. EVERYTIME I go there it's an hour wait. One employee was in tears as she begged for me to call corporate and complained that we need help. Poor planning/poor training on corporates part. Bring Arby's back and slam the lid on the clown box. TERRIBLE SERVICE!

T C.

Yelp
We visited this location to take my nephews for the first time and were informed at the door that the business was closed about an hours before the posted closing time. Unfortunately, the interaction with the staff member lacked professionalism and contributed to an overall disappointing experience.
google avatar

Clark G.

Yelp
This place blows. Why doesn't this location show up on the app? Garbage food that you have to wait forever to get. Bring back Arby's.
google avatar

Gene W.

Yelp
Food was good. They still have a lot of training issues. The place was not overly busy and they had a lot of staff. There were several customers including my self waiting for their orders to be corrected or made over. I ordered a Double Jack with Grilled onions and got a single Jack without the grilled onions. I brought it to the counter and the manager had them make another right away. They were polite and courteous. The place has been open over a month now. The skill level does not match it yet, maybe they are having high turnover in employees setting their training back. I will go back, but be sure to check my food before I leave. Hopefully they get better.

Yelp
Haven't had Jack in the Box in this area since I was a kid in the 70's. They were kind of slow for a fast food restaurant. It took 16 minutes to call my order. Plus there are no trays if you order to eat in. They put all orders in a bag which, I think, is a waste of resources. Maybe they can be faster next time.

Tom I.

Yelp
Zero stars. 45 minutes in line for a cheeseburger. Ridiculous. In the drive up lane, there is no escape. You're trapped. Never again.

Suri S.

Yelp
This place is horrible. The food took 30 minutes for just 1 burger combo meal. That is outrageous. The food was not even that good!! This place is not worth the wait!! DONT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE!!

Paul L.

Yelp
40 minutes in drive thru (five cars in front of me) for over fried chicken sandwich and tacos.

Cathleen A.

Yelp
New takeouts, need to work out some service kinks, love the tacos and tried some fries which were good

Steve H.

Yelp
15 minutes in drive thru and did not move! Had the person behind me back up so I could get out. Two cars that were in front of me backed out as well. If the lead car has a big order have it pull up and service the rest.

Stacy P.

Yelp
Drove 35 minutes to come here to get breakfast only to be told they dont open until 10:30 am. I called confused because I thought they were open 24 hours. The girl on the phone, extremely rude, told me non of the locations in Illinois are 24 hours. To which I responded thats weird because im literally looking at the sign in your window that says 24 hours. For a large chain whoever is running this roll out in Illinois needs to fired. Google also says the hours are 25 hours which was last updated BY THE BUSINESS 7 days ago. You serve breakfast and dont open until 10:30? No thanks. Ill go to chik fil a down the street that doesnt waste people's time. Never again jack in the box.

Yelp
35 min wait after you order for 4 tacos. Get your act together already. Are you understaffed..learning curve?

Diana O.

Yelp
My husband & i went on a Monday . Opened at 5pm we arrived at 5:15 busy . We ordered tacos , burger combo . Service was great regardless of it being crowded. We ate there, very clean . People were patient that definitely made our experience pleasant. Food was good we especially loved the seasoned fries . My husband bought a slice of NY cheesecake very good . We will be returning.

Bill M.

Yelp
Horrendous service. My wife and I waited 35 minutes for a very small uncomplicated order. I stuck around only because I was in disbelief. A customer who was there when we arrived ended up leaving without asking for a refund. I suspect that in addition to her frustration she was was afraid of what she might say if anyone actually came to the service counter. (PS: We arrived at 3:50, not the most crowded time of day.) PSS: Multiple products in the soda machine were not working. In spite of that no one tried to refill or fix the emptied products. They didn't bother to put up a sign or warn customers as they handed them cups. It was very annoying. I give it 12 months, and that's only because people are curious.

Peter B.

Yelp
Are you kidding me, trapped in this drive thru for 45 f!?king minutes and they weren't even crowded. If you are that incompetent close and retrain your people. I will never be back.

Cindy S.

Yelp
Tacos are very good but it took 25 minutes and they were very cold. The one in country side has better and much faster service

Glenn N.

Yelp
This restaurant looked overwhelmed. I ordered tacos and waited about 30 minutes for them. They were out of Diet Coke and didn't have any napkins. Not a great way to kick things off for this new restaurant. Parking lot was also a mess...people bailing from the drive through due to the ridiculously long wait time. Cars were backed up so far in the drive thru that other cars couldn't pull out of the parking spots without employees directing traffic. I won't be back until things settle in a bit.

Glenda S.

Yelp
Waited 35 mins for a simple kids grilled cheese sandwich 5 people already asked for there refund while standing here. This place is ridiculous will never come back. 0 stars

Paul D.

Yelp
Waited 25 minutes in line mo way out of line just to get to order only 6 cars in front of me horrible experience

Fernando C.

Yelp
Waited in line at the drive up window for 1 1/2 hrs to get cold food and warm soda and the tacos are not what I remember them to be !! Cold mush like substance that resembled a taco , almost looks like they out the condiments in then deep fried the damn taco. One and done for me !!! The girl taking the order asked me to repeat the order 4 times before she got it correct ! The girl at the window was more concerned about how neatly the bags were being folded instead of moving the line . No sense of urgency what so ever was present and nothing resembling a manager . They were stopping people at the door because of over crowding ! Fat burger started like this and they didn't last , opened up again a few months later. If they don't get their act together they will end up closing because I might put up with it once but not twice!

Tonya P.

Yelp
I never in my life had to wait 45 minutes for one hamburger it was chaotic. It was unorganized. The whole team needs to be fired. They have no clue on how to or get orders out. There was not enough staff, and that staff was not trained properly. The hamburger itself was not good not worth the weight. It was greasy. It didn't have any lettuce or tomato on it and it was small for the size for the rather the person who made it needed to change his gloves he touch and receipts and then going back over to the food. They all need to be fired and this is the Jack-in-the-Box that just open in Tinley Park on 175th I want to say in Lagrange don't go there.

Jc O.

Yelp
This location is terrible. Absolutely the worst experience at a fast-food chain. This is not the Jack in the Box that you're used to. Poor service, poor management, horrible food. 25 min plus to get to the drive thru menus (only four cars ahead of us). Another 15 minutes to get to the drive thru window, and another 10 minutes to get the food. If you're that busy, how can you not have a fresh supply of HOT fries. The food was luke warm, at best, and stale. Burgers were soggy and the meat tasted old. If you're running late, do not stop at this drive thru. Once you're in line, you're stuck. It's curbed all the way around with no way out of line. This place has only been open for a month or so. Our first visit was even worse, but I thought it was just a rough opening week. This was our second time here - I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. Huge FAIL, Jack in the Box. If you're familiar with west coast Jacks, don't bother coming here. You'll be extremely disappointed. We will not be going back.

after living in california for 10 years i was thrilled to hear JITB was coming back to IL. but was extremely disappointed with the food. it doesn't taste or look the same, no tomato or lettuce. and from the reviews it seems this issue has been consistent since opening. although the drive thru was long i don't think the service was as bad as other reviews are saying.

Yelp
The food was good. The tacos are just as good as I remember them The onion rings are sweet The double cheeseburger needs little spice but still fresh Service was good. The crew was doing the best they can. They get crowded fast/ walkins and the drive through They were out of shakes and small drinks but that's not on the crew Place is clean and they even had time to pass out cups to customers. I'm going back

Yelp
I have pictures of me inside car and time documents this (in case Jack wants proof) but 1st visit and last!! But for anyone who has a spouse undergoing chemo and they finally have a craving for food that may put an ounce of weight on?! You do it. Few minutes shy of AN HOUR in the drive up with 3 cars ahead and one was asked to park. I ordered 2 cheeseburgers and 1 small fries. That's it. Had the food been even decent or warm? But congrats Jack. My 1st complaint on yelp, and I am forced to give 1 star. Undeserving of even that! If it wasn't for the curbs locking you into drive in TRUST ME hubby would have understood McD's was necessary! And staff? Couldn't have cared less! No apology, not even an excuse even tho the fastest thing they did was take the $$ then stay away from window. Exactly 51 minutes for 2 lukewarm cheeseburgers.. 1 small fry. Save yourself the hassle, McD's is actually far better.

Yelp
There too many people working in this place. They are all standing around doing nothing . It was late and a young girl was working and we said you look tired. Obviously because it was late and busy. She said we are rude. It was not an insult. I couldn't even see her eyes because her fake eyelashes were so big. Maybe instead of directing traffic those employees take orders. I got a burger tonight and it was so crisp and is like a hockey puck. Kudos for kids working but work don't mess around. And the drive through you don't want to wait after a 1/2 you can't get out because the curb is so high. This place won't last long. I miss the good days of jack in the box. Or maybe it's just this location

Yelp
This place is a complete disaster with the worst management that has ever been in charge of running a fast food restaurant. Not exactly sure why the wait is so long oh wait I know the employees don't seem to care about being employed and making sure the food is prepared in a timely manner. I'm one and done at this place. You obviously don't need my business cause you don't seem to care about your customers.

Yelp
Worst drive thru ever! Waited in line for 25 min. Never go here again . This is the second time I have been to this location and waited for over 20 min .
