Verdun Fried Chicken Spot Jack Le Coq Is Opening a Second Location in Mile End | Eater Montreal

"I’ve noticed Montreal’s latest fried chicken slinger has quickly generated hype since opening in Verdun, and Jack le Coq plans to expand to Mile End at 200 Saint‑Viateur West in May. It sells “Quebec‑style” fried chicken in a box, as tenders, or as sandwiches, and word is that its crisp fried bird is good — really good; the Wellington Street Verdun location has racked up long queues and glowing reviews after taking over the last standalone Dunkin’ Donuts. While the chain hopes to open up to eight locations by the end of the year (and 20–40 in the long run), I’m aware some Mile End residents may prefer long‑established options and that there’s local concern about another growing chain entering the neighbourhood; owner Jacques Gaspo, formerly of franchiser Foodtastic, is driving the rapid expansion." - Valerie Silva

Google
Good fast food spot that I tried for the 1st time. However there was a mix up in my order though, as I was hoping for a mix of spicy and "red" chicken tenders. Service was fast as the place was mostly empty when I was there.

Hands down the best fried chicken in town! If you're nearby on a random Tuesday, make sure to try their Tuesday special, which is 2 fried chicken with fries and house gravy for only a little over $ 10! Also you get a soda or ice tea with it ! The chicken served hot and fresh , tender and juicy on the inside, crispy and flavorful on the outside! Just so good! The stuff is friendly as well! In the economy, they deserve more love !

Google
Finally a true Vegan chicken sandwich with vegan sauce and fried separately it’s own fryer! It’s our second time going and I have to say it’s consistent both time, food was amazing and you have to try the onion rings. Service is A+ with the ambiance and vibe of the place is another 5 star. I’m sure the rest of the menu must be good as the place didn’t stop. If your visiting or a local this place is a must on your list and won’t disappoint! BTW try the spicy hot sauce!

The fries are unique and taste great while the chicken tenders are to die for! And to top it off, great service by Robert. Well done guys, you've exceeded my expectations and will DEFINITELY come back

💕I am vegan but my husband said that the chicken is pretty juicy and outside breading crispy though too oily, especially the fries! 💩There seems to be a graveyard of dead flies and some live ones all over the restaurant which really affects the experience when you are eating. I hope this can improve because it is not sanitary!

Google
The food is genuinely horrifying. I orderd it on DoorDash, 1. The chicken practically tastes like red 40. 2. It’s cold and the chicken is literally breaking apart 3. Not even CLOSE to fresh 4. God says to be greatful for food…which I am, but THIS was NOT edible genuinely. I’m sorry but that is the worst thing I have ever put in my mouth. No hate tho, actually kind of… :/

Google
This place has great aesthetics and concept. The chicken itself is good but there's no distinctive quality to it. Spices are good, it's crispy, a little oily but good. Nothing special. We ordered the family combo (4 tenders, 4 pieces, 4 pieces of bread, portion of fries, 2 sauces and gravy). Price was average and portions were enough for 4 people. Overall if you're looking for fried chicken, this is a safe option.

Google
The chicken was very dry and obviously not fresh. I complained, and they offered me two freshly cooked pieces as compensation — which only confirmed that the first ones were old. Horrible, I will never go back, felt bad all night, quality has seriously declined with new ownership. Avoid at all cost.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place as we were leaving the movie theater one night and kept it in mind as I read the Google reviews. Where to start? As you walk in you are transported in time with beautiful decor, colors. The staff is beyond friendly, attentive and generous. The chicken was very good, and the poutine was very good. The onion rings were in point ! Bonus points for the fact that they use local ingredients! We will definitely be going back in the near future.

Yelp
New fried chicken in the neighbourhood! Standard classic menu with pieces of fried chicken, sandwiches, poutines and other sides. I've tried the original sandwich and the chicken poutine. I found that the sandwich had a bit too much mayo but that's not a big deal. The chicken was still tender and flavourful. The poutine was also quite good but I don't like their choice of fries. They're sort of a mixed wavy potato slices. I also tried the side of corn and they are buttered but also very seasoned which is the first time I've seen a restaurant do that. Overall it's not a bad place to eat but nothing too special. Still super happy they opened a fried chicken place in the Mile End though.

Yelp
Oily and super fatty! Got two thighs skin was super oily when I bit into it and the chicken itself was all fat underneath. Couldn't finish it thought I was gonna have a heart attack

Yelp
Great place! I came here at least 1 Time a week to take a Jack buffalo and study. The staff here is a little bit cold but very professiona. The burger are awesome. The chicken is crispy and juicy and well seasoned! their fries are good but taste like McDonald fries.. Anyways great place 4 stars

Yelp
The fried chicken was just perfect to me, crunchy outside and soft, tender inside. Could not complain with the price and the foods!
