The 14 Best BBQ Restaurants in Kansas City - Eater

"Barbecue snobs tend to overlook restaurants with cloth napkins and real silverware. But at Jack Stack, a single, humble side dish has kept the critics at bay: cheesy corn. Jack Stack’s version is a cut above the rest, with an extra dose of salty, smoky ham careening through the expected velvety richness. It helps that the meats are good, too. The Kansas City combo is a fine way to sample the restaurant’s pit-smoked sausage and baby back ribs — but you may as well pay the upcharge to sub in the unique (and uniquely extravagant) crown prime beef rib. Although Jack Stack has six metro locations, the Freight House restaurant, just off the streetcar line, is particularly cute and convenient for tourists." - Liz Cook

Truly incredible bbq - a step up from Joe’s. Joes has better sauce. But Jack Stack clears every other way. The sides are better (beans are comparable at both), the meats better, and you get significantly more food. We got Jacks Best for 4 and it’s an impressive amount of food, 3 people couldn’t finish it. The beef ribs are extremely fatty and tender and juicy - they are the best thing on the menu hands down. The pork ribs are also quite good, the sausage next, finally the burnt ends and lastly the beef brisket. Honestly, no point getting the beef brisket, the beef ribs are better in every way. I also really enjoyed the sides, and the pickles and the pickled onions to help cut the fat. The nicer ambiance and seating also help distinguish it from Joes. It isn’t much of a competition, if you had to pick one come to Jack Stack.

Great location, easy to get to by UBER, and it will be lunch at Jack Stack Barbecue. One of the top addresses in Kansas City! The atmosphere is very energetic, with a lot of people enjoying their BBQ, and it is definitely very busy. I enjoyed the loaded potato with the burnt ends. Delicious! The coleslaw is amazing. One of the best I have had in a while. Service is friendly and focused on service. My score a 4.9.

I absolutely LOVE this place! Every time I’m in Kansas City, MO I have to go here. This past visit I got their “Kansas City Combo Pick Three” with beef brisket, baby back ribs, and crown prime beef rib! Well worth the extra cost because the crown prime beef rib just MELTS in your mouth! I’m still dreaming about it! Side I had was the cheesy corn bake and the hickory pit beans. All were good. When I have come before, I have also tried their mac & cheese, coleslaw, and potato salad all really good. My friends also tried the beef burnt ends (I tried one of theirs it was really good) and the pulled pork. We also shared the onion rings and the famous carrot cake at the end! Was so delicious! I don’t even like carrot cake and I liked theirs! Now that’s saying something! This place is really huge and in the bar area there’s a fireplace, you can also rent out rooms for different parties, but I still recommend a reservation in advance. Service is always great! You really can’t go wrong ordering anything here as everything is fabulous!

I just had an amazing and favorable experience at Jack Stack BBQ! The place was recommended by some colleagues in the hospitality industry so I came in from the airport for dinner. The place is very busy yet I was greeted with a warm smile by the hostess. I grabbed a seat at the bar after a 20 minute wait which was not bad. This was my first time here so I asked what should I eat since I’m a beef brisket guy. I had 3 meat with the dark chicken leg, lamb ribs, and pork ribs. Let me tell you the food was very very good down to the steamed buttered broccoli. And the baked beans were 🔥🔥🔥. The beans had the down home shuttle sweet flavor that can only come from meat drippings and special seasoning. Melissa and Adam served me with impeccable service and warm smiles. I will be back! By the way I need the recipe for the O rings. No ketchup needed.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Unbeatable BBQ, Next-Level Service, and Classic KC Vibes Jack Stack Freight House is a must-visit for anyone in KC. The brisket and burnt ends were honestly the best I’ve ever had, and yes—the cheesy corn is every bit as amazing as people say. Not overrated. Just perfect. We’ve had the same incredible server twice on the patio (I think his name was Jason?!)—funny, professional, generous, and absolutely dialed in. He even treated us to complimentary desserts that sealed the deal. The hostess team kindly moved us to the covered patio early, where we enjoyed our meal with Union Station and trains rolling by - total Americana vibes. Come hungry, leave obsessed. Don’t skip this place!

Google
Had the 3 meat KC combo, the pulled pork was tender and had an excellent crust. The spare ribs were fall off the bone and perfectly seasoned. The brisket was tender, but I felt it lacked seasoning. Overall, the experience was very good and would definitely be recommended to others.

Google
🔥 5 stars for Jack Stack Barbecue! 🔥 Had an absolutely killer meal at Jack Stack — the food was so good it felt like I slipped through a portal to Harry Potter land, with all the dark wood and old-school vibe (just needed a few floating candles). This place is a total classic. Legendary BBQ, full stop. The meats were unreal. Next time, we’re definitely doing the wings app, and as Robbie from Crude Comics & Rose Tattoo put it best: “Gotta do a crown prime rib and burnt ends. Cheesy corn is amazing too.” Spot on. If you’re in KC and don’t hit Jack Stack, you’re playing yourself. Can’t wait to go back and try the entire menu.

Google
We greatly enjoyed our whole experience start to finish. Our server was Francis and she went above and beyond and made great recommendations. Can I give more than 5 stars for service? The wing appetizer is the best wing app I’ve had. I got local KC bourbon The baked beans were truly the best baked beans I’ve ever had Also our server said the carrot cake is life changing…she wasn’t far off. Get the carrot cake, it’s so good. Good prices

Yelp
The pick 3 is enough for two adults. I had the burnt ends, lamb ribs and sausage. Comes w two sides

Yelp
New to KC area and heard from a friend who used to live in Overland Park that Jack Stack was her favorite KC BBQ spot, so I went with my boyfriend and my parents to try it. We ordered two Kansas City Combo Pick-3s and one side of garlic broccoli, and all were more than sufficient to feed the 4 of us. The meats we picked for the pick-3s are baby back ribs, beef ribs, lamb ribs, crown prime beef rib, beef burnt ends, and beef brisket. We got a side of fries and subbed the second side for coleslaw. Skip the beef ribs, but definitely Do NOT pass up the crown prime beef rib!! It was so tender and melts in your mouth, the regular beef ribs pale in comparison. The lamb ribs are slightly gamey, but not too bad. The rest of the meats were par for the course, very good! But nothing as notable as the crown prime. Yum. Sides were just ok. I'd also recommend you skip the garlic broccoli, as it was just ok. We also got 3 different flavors of lemonade: strawberry, raspberry, and blackberry. I think the strawberry and raspberry lemonades were way too sweet for our palates. The blackberry lemonade was refreshing and crisp, still sweet but not overbearingly. Also, our server was incredible. I forgot his name, but we made sure to give him a good cash tip. My dad spilled his beer after finishing half of it, and the server joked about how it was a great way for him to get a free refill of beer. He also checked up on us a lot. He told the kitchen to split each pick-3 into two plates so that it was easier for us to share among the 4 of us, which was really nice of him and something that is not often offered. Incredible. Probably the only regret I had was sitting outside. We came within an hour of closing, so we just wanted the first available seating so we could leave before the staff got too annoyed with us. But outside had a ton of mosquitoes, and we all got eaten alive. We asked to be moved to another table, but by the time another table was cleared, we had already gotten all the food and decided it was too much work to migrate to another table. If you're prone to bug bites, come earlier than we did and request indoor seating, it's probably worth the extra wait. Overall great bbq spot. Would return again. Undetermined on who's better, this or Joe's.

Yelp
Based on reviews I'd read and comments from dining companions, I hope they were having an off night. Our party of 6 already knew, after waiting longer than expected for dinner on a Monday night, that they were much busier than expected. By 7pm they were already out of several beers on tap, and they were already out of several meat options - which meant that several combo platters were also not available. And for the combo platter we ordered, many of the meats on it were unusually fatty this evening. I thought that many of the sides were blander than I expected as well. Some items, including those delicious onion rings, were just a wee bit too greasy for me. But 4 stars on an "off night" means they are still doing many things right. Service was still very good, and our waiter was on top of everything, including immediately being able to tell us what was or wasn't available. Drinks came out quickly, and the cocktails were delicious. Every single food item was well prepared; the meats were all fall-off-the-bone tender (if they were served on bones), knives were never needed, and they practically melted in your mouth. If "disappointed" means only 4 stars, that's certainly an indication that I'd gladly go back and try more.

Yelp
Beef burnt ends, fat well rendered, soft, prefer little more salt and pepper, good overall. Brisket fatty side, cut thin, good bark, but like soup meat. Pork burnt ends, is from pork shoulder, quite lean, some hard and not that great. Fries, fresh cut, tasty with seasoning powder. Cheesy corn, great, literally like the name. Sauce, spicy one had very little kick.

Yelp
Had to get BBQ while in KC! Made the mistake of going on a Saturday night...it was packed!!!! The wait was over 2 hours and I was starving so opted for take out instead. Burnt ends and ribs were amazing! Don't skip the corn bake, it's so worth it! Girls in takeout were super nice and my order came out really quick.

Yelp
Came here with colleagues as I recommended coming here for dinner Have been to Jack Stack at this location several times over the years when in KC. Best BBQ around in my opinion. Definitely prefer Kansas-style BBQ moreso than Texas (sweet) or Carolina (vinegar). My colleagues loved the place and the meat was all perfectly cooked and extremely flavorful. Would never hesitate coming here no matter how busy it is. We were the last to leave this night and were extremely satisfied. Can get a little loud as the ceiling is very high (old warehouse) but overall you can't beat the experience. Go - you will not regret!

Yelp
Jack Stack is a great place if you're looking for barbecue while in Kansas City! You can smell the delicious barbecue from a few blocks away, which had me very excited to try the food here! We arrived early and luckily got a seat on the patio right away. For those who arrived later, I could see a wait forming, so make reservations or get here early. Our server was super nice and gave some great food recommendations. They have a good menu and tap list, especially with local options on there. I loved the lemon ginger radler from Boulevard. We ordered burnt ends for the table to star, which were delicious. I ordered the pulled pork Mac and cheese for my entree, which was so good. I loved the few bbq sauce options, and really enjoyed them on the pulled pork and burnt ends. The bowl was huge and I had lots for leftovers. I really enjoyed my visit here and loved the food - I would definitely return.

Yelp
Incredibly good bbq joint in Kansas City. Before my arrival I was searching for good bbq spots in the area and Jack Stack was an overwhelming choice that kept being recommended, so I figured it was the place to try! I was in a party of two and we were able to be seated right away. We shared an appetizer of the pulled pork Mac and Cheese. I found it to be pretty good. I would rate it a solid 8.5/10. Overall, it had a really good flavor. For my drink I ordered the strawberry Shandy and that was really good. It surprisingly tasted like wine. For my entree I got the pick two deal which was for about $17 more or less. You can pick two meats and they come with fries. I chose the brisket and baby back ribs. My ribs were incredible solid 9/10. The brisket was pretty good (but I didn't like it as much as the ribs). I would give the brisket a 8/10. I also got another drink i believed was called the KC lemonade. That one was really good- it was an alcoholic beverage but it tasted like berry juice or something. Very peculiar taste but in a good way. The hospitality was great, our server was amazing. Overall a great experience. Thanks Jacks!

Yelp
There is a reason that Jack Stack is one of the Big Four of Kansas City BBQ, and the Freight House is the best of Jack Stack's locations. While there are many things done very well on their menu, the sides are where Jack Stack truly shines. Many locals pick up an order of their beans and some cheesy corn to take home when doing their own back yard BBQs. That shows how essential their sides are and why they are one of the first places that come to mind when I'm craving BBQ! You can see more of our experience on our YouTube travel channel: https://youtu.be/DO0ySfx36Hg

Yelp
We came here to unwind after a conference. This place was jam packed and we had a 30 minute wait time. The wait was actually about 15 minutes. The staff was so kind and showed our group to our table. The wait staff immediately greeted us and was phenomenal. I see why it was super crowded. The food was so good and the service was great. I had the burnt ends (pork and beef) plate with baked beans and creamy corn. The burnt ends was so tender! The sauce was also a perfect balance of sweet heat. We had appetizers too of jalapeño cornbread and onion rings. The onion rings were crispy and just right. The cornbread was so good and savory and had a sweet butter on top. The drinks were also strong! They do not skimp on the alcohol in Kansas City. I enjoyed my visit and will definitely make another visit if I'm in the area again. I loved the whole ambiance of this place.

Yelp
This is a return trip based on great memories from 20+ years ago. I was flying solo so I sat at the bar and I received great service from two bartenders. They have some good beers to choose from and a full bar. I went for the food, so here's what I had. Combo plate with beef burnt ends and lamb ribs, baked beans and fries. It was all delicious, especially the lamb.

Yelp
Most places in the area aren't open until 3 or 4 on a Monday afternoon and even though Jack Stacks was one of the only options, I'm so glad we went! It's a very clean beautiful restaurant. All the staff were so welcoming and nice. I ordered the pulled pork Mac and cheese and subbed the pulled pork for brisket. It was $1.25 up charge to switch but it was worth it! The Mac and cheese was the perfect amount of creamy and cheesy. The barbecue sauce was delicious and the brisket was so tender and juicy. I would go back just to order that again even though everything on the menu looked good. It also came with a side where you could upgrade from the French fries to something else. I stuck with the fries and they were good! It was one of the girls birthday that I was with and they brought out a chocolate cake with vanilla bean ice cream and I would highly suggest getting that to top off the meal!!

Yelp
Today, I hit another BBQ house, being I'm in KC! Jack Stack was highly recommended on Yelp! So I figured I would give them a go. The place was half empty, but because I was alone, they really swung me to the bar. I wasn't crazy about that but went along with it. The bar was full, and it took a few, but I did get help from the friendly bartender. The ambiance is trendy and very warm, like a nice log lodge. The menus are full of variants of typical bbq options. I went with the burnt ends, beef prime ribs, coleslaw, and beans. The bnq sauce I found a little bland. Most kc bbq sauce I've had is spiced up a little more..peppery..not hot. The meats were flavorful and tender. The coleslaw is the type I like...finely cut and vinegary. The beans were tasty as well. Overall, the food and ambiance is really good here. I would say the bbq sauce itself left something to be desired.

Yelp
Loved the atmosphere and food. This is one of their nicer locations. Loved that they let us make reservations. They have a parking lot which is nice but be careful. They closed us in and had to go out another way. Make sure you keep your receipt so they don't charge you for parking. Are waiter was good. Food - was great cannot say anything bad about anything we ate. Burnt Ends - Awesome!!! Also whomever posted about the burnt ends being too fatty - They are suppose to be like that. Ribs, chicken were all good. Cornbread on the menu says it has jalapeño in it, but I really could not taste it. It was not spicy at all and was good. The beans are awesome. The cheesy corn if you like cheese you'll love it. It's very very very, very cheesy not much corn. Had to finish up with the carrot cake. It tasted like it just came out of the oven melted in my mouth.

Yelp
I ordered delivery. I ordered the poor Russ sandwich with a side of beans and cheesy baked potatoes. The meat of the poor Russ was okay but iwouldnt get again. The beans and potatoes were both really good. The original bbq sauce was smoky. The sides are definitely the best part.
google avatar

Yelp
This place was highly reviewed and was recommended by a couple of locals as well. Unfortunately we were disappointed with the food. The BBQ was just dry, not flavorful at all. The only thing I enjoyed was their side of beans. We're just not sure if we walked in a bad time around 3pm, after lunch. It seemed that the meat was cooked, sat for a while and got dried out. Service was good.

Yelp
I wanted to try more BBQ places in Kansas City, but I only had time to eat at Jack Stack Barbecue, conveniently several blocks from my hotel. Jack Stack is the best barbecue restaurant near Union Station and the Crossroads Arts District. I liked the interior design of the restaurant. The dark wood, vaulted ceilings, and medieval-like chandeliers are enchanting and made me feel like I was eating at a luxurious hunting lodge. I was seated with my group at a round dining table that could comfortably sit around ten people. My meal was delicious. Depending on what they ordered, I heard mixed reviews from other diners in my group. I suggest splurging a little to get a lot more in return, especially if you're a visitor and want to experience high quality Kansas City barbeque. I ordered the KC Combo Dinner with two meat options. I recommend paying extra to get the premium meats under the substitutes list. I chose the Crown Prime Beef Rib and the Lamb Ribs. Both were excellent and tender. The Crown Prime Beef Rib is humungous, so I had plenty of leftovers.

Yelp
We'll what can you say about KC bbq Mecca this place doesn't disappoint the flavors are so pronounced it's like you don't even need sauce the burnt ends starter was amazing especially pair with their very good selection of upscale bourbons so we opted for the the platter which had almost everything you could want to sample from their very expansive menu We got there early enough for the dinner rush but table times were at 30 minutes but the bar was open so we sat at the bar and the bartender was awesome and quick with everything we couldn't have had better service The place was dimly lit and old cabin decor seen an outdoor patio seating which looked nice and airy with plenty of tvs to keep you entertained while you enjoying some of KCs great bbq dining

Yelp
I would go back to this place for the lamb ribs alone. Never even thought that was a thing till I saw it on the menu. What an awakening! Take that taste of lamb, mix it with a smoky BBQ and get ready for a culinary treat for the ages. You are not living life until this dish is unleashed on your senses.
google avatar

Yelp
Phenomenal Kansas city bbq with the Jacks Best providing a good sample of food and tastes. Beef ribs were my clear favorite and certainly not something you have everyday. The onion rings were quite conceivably some of the best I ever had where the portions were plentiful with some to spare. The decor and ambiance were fitting and the service was quick. I would recommend making a reservation. Only complaint is the ribs and burnt tips were a bit dried out ultimately lacking some flavor to round out the meal.

Yelp
Business lunch. Jack Stack is just so consistent and the do all the meats really well. Plus the have the best sides as well.

Yelp
The best jack stack in Kansas City! The service is great every single time we go and it's a great spot for a date night! The food is enough to share which we do every time. Hands down the BBQ shrimp and beef rib are the best things on the menu! Check this location out if you haven't been because the height of the ceiling is going to make you go, wow!

Yelp
First of all, I have never seen such small parking spaces. On arrival the parking lot was pretty full, but there were empty spots between several cars. The problem was so many of these spaces were too tight to park in. We were in my husband's Subaru Outback which is not a big vehicle by any means. If a vehicle parked too close to a line, then the space in between was unusable. This was very frustrating and made me car sick from my husband driving in circles in the parking lot for a space. Crazy. This place is huge! I had no idea how large this building is. They have a large patio area that is protected for warmer seating in the colder months. I wouldn't have minded sitting there. After a 15 minutes wait, we were seared at a 4-top table in the very large dining room. It felt like a dining hall. We were greeted by our server almost as soon as we sat down. I ordered the peach lemonade. They have regular lemonade and flavored. The peach lemonade was good, but very sweet. So when I was refilled with just the regular lemonade I did not complain. The regular lemonade was delicious. We chose the honey glazed ribs for two with an add on of beef burnt ends. A lot of food, but we love leftovers. The food came out really fast. The creamy Cole slaw came out first like a salad course. It's so good. Very fresh creamy and sweet. The ribs were very meaty and had great smoky flavor. I was not impressed with the beef burnt ends. The taste was good but they were very fatty. The beans are also a must. Sticky tangy sweet with nice amount of pork in the beans. As planned we had plenty left over to take home!

Yelp
Delightful early Sunday lunch. We made a reservation which wasn't totally necessary but we got there at 11.30. By noon, they definitely were busy. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. As was every other employee we interacted with. The food was great. By default the entrees come with fries and our waiter was helpful in offering us different options and we went with a spinach salad and beans. The beans were flavorful and hearty. The spinach salad was probably one of the best I've had. I asked to omit red onions and no issue there either. The meats were all amazing, the burnt ends in particular. The baked potato was cooked though and hot, the mac and cheese silky and creamy. I do wish there'd been a bit more bbq sauce, but no big deal. We paid a total of $76 before tip, so maybe not exactly cheap but it was worth it. The restaurant looks very fancy, with tall ceilings, dark wood, and chandeliers. The music was at the perfect volume. A well spent lunch!

Yelp
This restaurant is so big and has a great patio!! The lights and vibe of the restaurant were so cute and welcoming. Our waiter was Geremeh and he was so kind and helpful when we asked questions about the menu. We started off with the cheesy jalapeño cornbread and then we ordered the burnt ends combo for two with potato salad, cheesy potato bake, and the beans. Everything was sooooo good! The combo came with beef, pork, and sausage and honestly it was a ton of food we definitely could have split it with another person. I also ordered the house made lemonade which was so yummy and refreshing. If you're making a stop in KS definitely try to make a stop here

Yelp
We checked out this bbq spot while in KC and it did not disappoint. One thing I really loved about this place was the inside, it was clean, it was nice, it felt like a dinner spot and not your typical backyard bbq spot with picnic tables and paper towels on the table. For appetizers we got the mac & cheese and fried mushrooms, hands down some of the best fried mushrooms I have ever had. They were huge!!! For dinner we shared one of their meals called Taste of Kansas City which had a lot of meat and we were able to do a few sides with it. All the food was great, it was flavorful, and came out hot. This place has great food, a great location, and great service and I would absolutely come back here.

Yelp
Simply delicious. We ordered the 3 meat platter with burnt ends, turkey, chicken. Our guests ordered burnt ends, brisket, ribs. Meat was flavorful and moist. Dinner came with two sides. Ordered Cole slaw, French fries, cheesy potatoes, baked beans. Table favorite was baked beans but all were delicious. Table got out for under $100, which was great these days. Highly recommend for anyone visiting Kansas City.

Yelp
Was looking for a place that was open on Easter and this happened to be a place we found. Yum! The food was amazingly good. My table shared one of the family platters and it was more than enough for the 5 of us. The meet was juicy and good great and the sides were top notch. We sat on their enclosed patio and it was a great day to do that.
google avatar

Chris M.

Yelp
KC BBQ is some of the best in the country Jack Stack didn't disappoint, but doesn't make my top 10. Enjoyed the ribs and brisket. Ribs were better. Brisket was pretty bland. Tough to compete with TX, but plenty of better BBQ in MO, NC, NY and even south of Boston!
google avatar

Cassandra S.

Yelp
Great atmosphere. I would say a higher end BBQ place. Staff was nice and friendly. Large dining area. Plenty of seating outside. The restaurant is large to host parties or gatherings. The restaurant is connected to other buildings so make sure you walk into the right one!
google avatar

Scott B.

Yelp
We came in late with a large party so it took awhile for us to be seated. The food was excellent and portions amazing. The barbecue was good, but the winner was all the sides. My favorite was the carrot cake. I should have left more room. It was hot and covered on a warm cream cheese glaze. Shoulda, woulda, coulda just had that for dinner.
google avatar

Yelp
I am a Jack Stack fan. I love the Prime Crown Rib here and the lamb ribs are (in my never-humble opinion) some of the best BBQ you can get in KC. I also don't think I have ever had brisket or burnt ends here that I did not enjoy. On this very busy day, we opted to order carryout from the Freight House location. The food was pretty disappointing. The burnt ends were simply dramatically over cooked. The sausage was a bit mealy in texture and lacking flavor (hey, it is sausage! You have all kinds of opportunity to get some flavor in there!). I actually can't remember if I have had sausage at JS, but if I did it was not like this, or I would have remembered and not ordered it again. Enough of my negativity! Cheesy corn bake and cheesy potato bake always on point. These are not destination sides, but they are always solid. And, the service from the carryout area was great and friendly. I think I will just chalk this up as a fumble on carryout, and retain my affinity for Jack Stack. But, it was not a great day.

Adina S.

Yelp
This place is the bomb! A bunch of the good BBQ spots in Kansas City seem to be located outside of the city, but this one is in the perfect location. I came on a weeknight and the place was pretty busy. I decided to sit outside since they had heat lamps, but both the outdoor and indoor seating options were really nice! I think this place is a step above the rest because they have more options, both for the meat and the sides. I liked that the Pork Spare Ribs were flavorful on their own, even without extra sauce. The Beef Burnt Ends were delicious and fatty, but not overwhelmingly so. As for the sides, the French Fries were tasty, but the Hickory Pit Beans were the real star. Look no further for some great BBQ!
google avatar

Rebecca M.

Yelp
The ambiance was very busy when I arrived so I chose to have my food to go. Parking was plentiful even though it was busy and the restrooms were clean. I got the Kansas City combo with beef brisket, ham with coleslaw and cream cheesey corn. All was very tasty!
google avatar

Yelp
The number one thing you need to do in Kansas City is to eat some Kansas City barbeque! Ever since I went to Memphis earlier this year, I had to learn more about each region's barbeque techniques. And after browsing through Yelp, I picked a winner for Kansas City barbeque! This restaurant was a nice walk from my hotel at Crown Center. I got to see a train go by! Anyway back to the Jack Stack Barbeque. The walk was nice and there is ample parking if you are driving. Entrance is from the parking lot side, not the street side. If you are a single diner, like myself, eat at the bar because getting a booth/table will be a wait. At peak dinner time it was about 30-45 minutes. So be warned if you are a larger party. There were 2 bartenders working and they were nice. Didn't judge me for being a solo and didn't do too much small talk. I was there to eat. I got the 2 choice of Burnt Ends and Pork Spareribs. Gosh, it was so good. It melted like butter in my mouth. I was worried I wouldn't be able to eat it all, but I did! Little piggy I am! This place is great. If I find myself in Kansas City, I will make this the first place for dinner instead of my last dinner. Or maybe I'll always have dinner here!

Yelp
First bbq stop in Kansas City and was honestly a little underwhelming. I chose jack stack for the reviews and atmosphere and was overall pleased with what I saw on the inside- very cool spot! But I really came for the bbq. I had the short stack of ribs and I felt like there wasn't anything too special about them. Semi dry, not very big or juicy. Overall I felt kinda bummed out as I figured this had to be a bad batch. The bbq sauce was fire though. I would still come back here to get another experience, however!

Yelp
So, everyone talks about how the BBQ in Kansas is the best. I'm from the South, and honestly, we think we've got the best BBQ. When I landed in Kansas, I asked the lady at the car rental place for food suggestions, and she said Jack Stack's was a must-try. I thought it was gonna be a regular BBQ joint, you know, like a bar-type place. Boy, was I wrong. It was more like a sit-down restaurant with an intimate vibe. No one was dressed up, but it felt kinda high-end casual, like a fancier Longhorn or something. We ordered our food online since we were heading to Manhattan, which was over an hour away. I went for the brisket and beans, and man, it was so good. My sister got a BBQ sandwich and rib tips, and my brother-in-law got the chicken. We all loved the food. It was delicious. This place is a solid recommendation. The portions match the price, and they're not stingy with the sides. I had the baked beans with brisket in them, and seriously, I loved it. If you're ever in Kansas and wondering where to eat, definitely check this place out. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
We hit Jack Stack BBQ on a Friday night during the men's Big 12 tournament so it was very busy. We waited on the patio for about 30 minutes so not too bad. Waiter was busy but attentive to our needs. Food came out quickly. Loved the brisket and burnt ends. Beans were tasty. The corn was good but needed to be cooked longer. Would definitely return.

Yelp
This place came recommened by a friend and I could totally see why! I am not a huge BBQ girlie to be honest but everything we ate at Jack Stack was so good. We started with the fried mushrooms & pulled pork mac and cheese. And let me tell you, some of the best fried mushrooms I have had. Perfectly breaded, fried and doness of the mushrooms. Mac & cheese is not usually my first choice but theirs was creamy and garlicky. Loved it. We ordered the Taste of Kansas City, which feeds four people. There were only three of us and we could have used a fourth person, that is how much food there was. Honestly I loved everything. All the meat was tender, well seasoned, and basically fell off the bone.

Yelp
I enjoyed my food here. I highly recommend getting a reservation. My coworker and I lucked up getting a couple of seats at the bar. I ordered lamb ribs (never had before), pork ribs, cornbread, baked beans, cheesy potato bake. It was a lot of food, and I def took a good bit to-go. The lamb ribs were good but kinda fatty, so while I enjoyed, I wouldn't reorder just so that I can have more meat on the bone. But, def worth trying. The cheesy bake came highly recommended. It was tasty, but need a pinch of salt. Everything else was good as-is. My coworker got burnt ends and said he liked his food a lot. We both wanted to try the wings, but we just couldn't order everything on the menu. lol! We walked over from our hotel, but there was a free lot that was able to accommodate the crowd.

Yelp
Got the burnt ends because the Uber driver said I should, but cheaped out and got two meats instead of three (pork and sausage, but not beef). And now I'm craving beef! Fries are fries, but when you put the seasoning on, they become Jack Stack fries! So do that. Order the beans, because they're awesome, but the cheesy corn was--amazingly enough--lacking in cheese flavor. So I'd pass on that, unless you really like corn and are having a corn craving. Overall, a bunch of flavor combos to keep your taste buds happy. First meal in K.C. So far, so good!

Yelp
Outstanding barbecue. Meats were fantastic. We were seated promptly and our waitress was very polite and patient. All staff were very helpful and friendly. Bloody mary was also very good! Will definitely be returning next time I'm in KC for some great BBQ!

Yelp
I recently visited Jack Stack Barbecue and had a mixed experience. While the customer service was great and the restaurant's ambience was impressive, the food fell short of expectations. The spare ribs were just okay and could use more seasoning, and the beef burnt ends were a bit tough. I did, however, enjoy their house made French fry seasoning which took the French fries to another level! But I came here for the BBQ. Overall, it was an underwhelming dining experience in terms of food quality.

Yelp
Jack Stack was very good quality. Staff was attentive and answered our questions well. The sauce were a sticky red sauce and that's just not my favorite. I am more of a no-sauce, dry rub fan and there is a significant difference. Even though this was not my personal taste, I still rate it highly. I think I would have enjoyed it more had the meats and beans not all had the same sauce base. Please take my review as advice to order wisely, especially if you are new to the KC BBQ scene. It was a quality meal even though my personal tastes are different!

Yelp
I've been here a few times... this was probably my least impressed I've been. My food wasn't hot, it was like warm, even my crown rib. The creamy corn used to be so good, this time it was chewy and tasted like the Kraft macaroni n cheese you get from a box. Next time I'm in town, I think I'll Uber to a different BBQ joint. Sad, cuz I was really into this place.

Yelp
If you're gonna go to KC, you HAVE to go to Jack Stack! My friend Alicia and I sampled the 3-meat plate - brisket, burned ends, baby back ribs and beans as the side. We also opted for the mac-and-cheese with pulled pork as an appetizer. LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT THE BEANS! The beans were my absolute favorite thing of the whole meal. Really. REALLY! I can't even describe how tasty and life-changing the beans are. I think they must have been chock-full of tasty burned ends alongside those beans. Perfect spices. Absolute heaven! It was Alicia's birthday but we were too full for cake, and our server kindly packed up a complimentary slice for us to take home. Fabulous service, fabulous food.

Yelp
First off, this location is the neatest location, of any of the Jack Stack locations. Repurposing the old freight house, behind Union Station....the old structure is neat. To explain Jack Stacks is simple: There is (no) better sides at any BBQ place, that can too their pit beans, the cheesy potato bake and the cheesy corn. They are all tremendous sides. All the meats turn out great and are delicious. The burnt ends are excellent. The smoked turkey is excellent. And the other supporting cast meats of ribs, brisket, pulled pork etc..are all good stuff!

Yelp
Family dinner wanted casual but a little nicer than your average BBQ joint. I felt like we were in A version of Top Chef or one of those other tasting menu restaurants. 4 adults, 1 teen and a toddler eating with us. Ordered $200 worth of food (one light beer not draft) one fruity drink. No appetizers. Absolutely disappointed in this order: Portion. We ordered the 3 meat plates- the three slices of brisket counted for one portion. Our 2 year old could have literally eaten all the brisket from an entire order. Burnt ends okay flavor- dry - dry - dry, make sure you have an entire portion of BBQ sauce to get them down. My son said he like the pork ribs (for how much he got he didn't have much to taste but said if it had meat in it he thinks it would have been good. I upgraded one of my meats to a beef rib- worst thing any of us tasted. We let everyone at the table scratch their teeth in the bone because there was NO MEAT. It was a flavored bone. I will say there was graduation that had just taken place and a wedding rehearsal dinner so they were busy but honestly, I would rather go to Dickie's BBQ for my money. Went home had a left over chicken ranch roll From earlier and was glad to find I still had it it at the hotel.

Yelp
Some friends recently visited KC and raved about Jack Stack. So, when my wife and I were passing through the area, we decided to check the place out. First, Jack Stack runs like a finely tuned engine. Drinks come out immediately. Order an appetizer ( in our case those humongous onion rings) and they're served within minutes. Sauces? They bring out several containers of mild to hot. If you ask, they'll bring out "very hot" which had great heat without pain. Our group ordered the family bbq for 4. That's brisket, shredded pork, smoked wings and pork ribs. You also get 4 relatively small servings of sides. We went with cheese corn, baked beans, Cole slaw & fries. They sure like sugar in their beans and celery salt in their Cole slaw. But really, I don't think anyone comes here for the sides. Our platter was huge. Far more food than one could reasonably expect. The brisket was lean and tender. Perhaps a bit dry. The pulled pork had a "bark" that added a nice crisp to the shredded meat. The wings weren't impressive (smoked wings just aren't crispy enough to my taste). And the ribs were outstanding. Meaty, moist, fall off the bone goodness. If I had one "complaint" I'd suggest that all of the meats could have used more seasoning rather than relying on smoke flavor. The ribs also could have a little more bark. Still, excellent. And we ended up taking a substantial amount of food home. We had no room for dessert and that's a shame. Their chocolate brownie with ice cream looked decadent. Some suggestions. 1. Make reservations. 2. It's Loud. 3. Don't let the $20 parking fee spook you. Parking is free with validation. There's a reason Jack Stack is packed. Good food. Good service. Good value.
