"Jacknife is a great place to get your vinyl geek on. Championing the buy, sell and trade business model of yesteryear, these guys also have a great selection of vintage speakers and record players, colorful boom boxes and even classic films. Google
Loved this place - packed full of analogue goodies and vintage gubbins. Mind boggling tape selection - didn't have time to get lost in it - and lots of good records. The guy at the counter was happy to put on a Cuban pressing I found and we had a good chat. Exactly what a music shop should be and the also advertise some live music on their Instagram

The staff members were chill and helpful. Good prices for the CDs. I will comeback for sure and shocked to find channel orange by frank ocean. Good store in general.

Google
Great little record shop, if u drive to fast you'll miss it but you should stop by they got vinyl cds and a great selection of tapes..

Google
Small store with an interesting mix of genres. I pop in here once a year and it's good for a single year visit. They have tapes which is fun. A bit pricey for what they put out. Better options for selection and price elsewhere.

Google
I want to support small records stores as much as possible, but so many like this one are charging ridiculous prices for used vinyl that have a ton wear. It seems like so many of these shops feel they can rip people off just because what they are selling is now ‘vintage’. Look around LA and you’ll find much better record stores. Some of the new vinyl seemed more reasonable, so that may be more worth checking out.

Google
They don’t deserve a star what so ever can’t believe they are still open with the absolute dumpster picked trash they are re selling for a ridiculous beach tax at the location with utter rancid gutter aromas. You don’t even bother to replace the felt pad in used cassets. And you have the audacity to sell and claim items are as is like I’m at some flea market shake down. Sell a product that works and I’ll change my rating but that’s three times in a row I gave you the benefit of the doubt and you let me down a third. I hope your owner is brave enough to fix these issues, clearly the help won’t even bother to admit, according to him, there was no way to check and play the tape before purchase. Good luck and I hope this doesn’t happen to anyone else stupid enough to pay these prices. Unfortunately I was duped again. Make sure you take your food and beverages inside. They love that.

Google
So glad we visited this place. Small shop fully packed with interesting records of the harder-to-find kind. Some great books and other stuff in the store as well. Recommended!

Google
Wow, what passionate and knowledgeable staff and a great selection! I was directing a shoot in downtown and desperately needed blank cassette tapes from the 90s. The staff were kind enough to find numerous “vintage” looking blank cassettes and send them to us in a Uber I ordered after I paid over the phone (this is going above and beyond, I would really not usually ask a shop to do a favor like that). They really saved the day 🙏 💯 As an avid collector of current cassette releases, I’m looking forward to coming in to browse their recordings. 💿

Yelp
The store owner is super cool and helpful. He played a part in helping me get my record player fixed and he offered to play an old soul record in the store (the entire time I was there!) so I could hear it even though The Cure was already playing and my music might have scared off all the customers . And he showed me the organization of all the record genres and periods which helped me explore them. And we are happy with our purchase. Plus the store is conveniently located next to delicious Mediterranean food restaurant: Dune and yummy paleo ice cream place: The Juice.

Yelp
Good selection of vinyl, CDs and some memorabilia. The owner is knowledgeable and friendly. We ordered a vinyl record that he knew was in his warehouse and he had it sent to us since we were leaving town the next day. Awesome service! Highly recommend a stop here if you're into vinyl! The prices are overall pretty decent .

Yelp
I'm disappointed to say, that as nice as the staff is, I can no longer support this neighborhood shop. With the high rent in Atwater, I can understand their price point. But for the price point, I expect a quality product. I recently bought a hand full of records here. Unfortunately, one of them scratched. I called to see if I could exchange the album, but their policy is "buy at your own risk". They stated that they check all of their record before putting them out. Well, that can't be true. Consider this a warning - If you buy a second hand record from Jack Knife Records, it might be scratched when you get home and they will not take it back. I could get round if it was in their dollar bin, but there is no such bin. For the price - this unacceptable. Don't get stabbed, but elsewhere.

Jake J.

Yelp
Jacknife Records and Tapes had everything I was looking for in terms of a neighborhood record shop - friendly and knowledgeable employees, great deals, and an inviting atmosphere. The layout of the building is long, which can make you feel claustrophobic at times. Still, there are hundreds of tapes and records to sift through, and I was shocked at the quality and rarity I found among the stacks. Everything ranges in price, but there are several really strong deals here. I found several cassettes, 98 cents each, that could be combined at a rate of 10 tapes for $5. I also had a really nice conversation with the staff, which is always nice. Parking is limited in front of the store.

Yelp
Hate to speak ill of any record store, especially an independent one, but this one really just fails sort of epically. The used LPs are GROSSLY overpriced, sometimes to the point where one must scratch their head wondering where they're getting their numbers from. I understand the store is on a busy street that probably maintains a high rent, but But I'm not sure how they're able to actually move any product, which is why I'm guessing a lot of the items on the wall remain up there for months on end, only to be taken down and MAYBE reduced by barely anything or just thrown up online. I don't understand this record seller mentality - if you're going to price Records as such, just close up your shop and do it from home online, avoid the high rents, etc., because nobody's walking into your store from off the street and paying $300+ for a rare and off the beaten path jazz record - especially when it's graded waaay too liberally. I also say this because brick and mortar sellers who have the opportunity to attract large collections being offloaded would do better amongst the community to sell at a more competitive price as opposed to gouging - we all have access to Discogs and see what these items can / may sell for - matching the price of an LP at its peak sale and just letting it sit just sort of.....i don't know, just sucks. Record Surplus - take a cue from them...

Yelp
The place was nice and very quiet, the employees and who I would believe to be the owner(s) were very nice and helpful. I had been meaning to get more cassette tapes for my new player, and they had songs that I really liked along with a huge variety or selections. The price was cheap and worth every penny.

Christina C.

Yelp
If you want to pay double or triple the price for a record, then this place is for you. If you want to pay reasonable prices, then DO NOT go here. They wanted $70 for a record we bought somewhere else for $10, and the condition was the same. They also wanted $25 for a cassette tape. Really??? I do not recommend this place.

Yelp
Very cool place! very much appreciated the used tapes for sale, it seems cassette tapes have disappeared from thrift stores as well. Thank you for keeping the dream of the 90s alive.

Yelp
Very cool store with an amazing selection of cassette tapes. The owner was very helpful, and fun to chat with

Yelp
I'm someone who loves to support local record stores, and I have been to Jacknife a number of times. It's a smaller establishment with a narrow space and they mostly have cassette tapes in the front and vinyl in the back (along with a smaller but growing selection of VHS). I don't care about cassettes, so I won't focus on that aspect of their inventory-- if that's your thing, perhaps this is a great place to go, I really have no idea. As for the vinyl, the selection is okay... my focus is on classic rock, 70s soul, and 80s pop. I love other genres as well, but I don't buy punk or hip-hop vinyl, so I've never perused their bins for that sort of thing, but it certainly exists within this space. I love combing through dollar bins at record shops to find hidden gems, but this place doesn't have one (totally fine). Instead, they have 3-4 bins of records priced at "$4.99 or six for $20". Not a bad deal, works out to like $3.33 each when you buy six. I went there the other day and pulled out 12 of those albums (so $40 total), most of which were scratched to all hell. One of them I was planning to give to my daughter as a gift, and I found that same record in better condition in the general stock bins, priced at $20 (to be honest, this one also had a few scratches). There were two dudes working there, and I assume one or both of them owns the place (no evidence, just an assumption), so I asked them a pretty simple question-- "would it be possible for me to buy the $20 record at a $2 discount in order to satisfy the 'six for $20' requirement alongside the other 11 records?" Even typing this, I know that this is somewhat of a confusing request. Essentially, I am asking them to include a regularly-priced record within a bulk purchase at a very small discount, because the one they priced at $5 appears to be so scratched that it is almost unplayable. At the end of the day, I was asking for a $60 purchase to be discounted to $58. To be fair, they have every right to just say "no, that's not the way this works", but instead, they chose to be total dicks about it. One of them snapped at me and said "our prices are lower than Goodwill" (not true) and "if you don't like the price, don't buy it!" At that point, he ripped the records right out of my hands and put them back on the shelf, and both of them had a good laugh about the whole exchange. I'm not upset that they ultimately said no to my discount request-- it was the way they handled it. I'm a frequent customer to this store, but I'll certainly never go back again. I asked whether or not a $2 discount would be possible and they turned it into a physical altercation. Furthermore, their pricing and quality control is kind of shit compared to other record stores, I'm sorry. The silver lining is that I went to Gimme Gimme Records in Highland Park the very next day and found the EXACT same album I was looking for in their dollar bins, and in PRISTINE condition! That place doesn't seem to put anything on the floor that isn't in great condition, even in the dollar bins. Jacknife, on the other hand, is perfectly content to overcharge for flawed vinyl, and you can pretty much bet that anything they put in the $5 bin is going to be virtually unplayable. The people here are obnoxious and combative, and it's really not worth your time to walk through the door. There are MANY better record shops in the area with nice owners and staff who will make your experience worth the trip. Jacknife represents all that could possibly be wrong with local record stores.

Yelp
Wonderful, wonderful. Went in determined to find the elusive Stooges 1st album on audio cassette. The cassette miester (AKA Trevor) melted into a sadness, only known by few vendors hoping to please a customer, but without a product in stock. Thinking quickly and in an effort to jolt him back, I said, 'How about the MC5's album?', ...'You got Humble Pie, the black album?', ....'What about, Pink Floyds, The Wall?' Next there's a blurry beeline to the back door. I thought oh my, I may have stumped him this time. Waited about 3 minutes, thinking he dragged himself home and I was just about to stumble out. ....But no, he comes back, unfazed, with a copy of the full Pink Floyd Wall album cassette! Anyways, Now I'm comfortably numb, looking at my wall.

Yelp
Seriously great selection. Hole in the wall that reminds me of great shops from the 90's. As of Sunday there are no cassette players for sale. But they have an amazing selection of new and vintage stuff. It was really hard not spending hundreds of dollars here in one visit. Contrary to another Yelp review, these guys are not jerks and will help you in every way. Support small businesses. I picked up sealed copies of the Ramones first LP and Wu Tang 36 Chambers, and a unsealed Cal Tjader record. My son was impressed by the soundtracks which there were so many it was impossible to choose!
google avatar

Aisha C.

Yelp
Perfectly quaint record store with very basic genres. Great if you just want to do some browsing. If you have a particular in mind, you may not find it here. They also have great 4 for $6 bins to get deals on less mainstream stuff. Good quality records and a cute little shop.

Yelp
Jacknife is the best record store in LA. The absolute best selection and an incredibly knowledgeable staff. Also be sure to check out the staff picks!

Matt B.

Yelp
Great shop, but they like to store their records with the plastic facing the same way as the gatefold opening instead of pointing up. So that when the record inevitably falls out they can charge you for it no matter the damage! Really a great way to get sales! Liked this shop, but I won't be returning ://

Yelp
Overpriced by double! Cool looking store but Rockaway down the street is WAY BETTER. I bought a record here for $34 and then saw the identical record at Rockaway for $19. If they would fix their prices this would be a great local store for me but I'm not about to over pay for pretty common records...

Yelp
Overall, this is a great store with a couple of caveats to keep in mind. PROS: 1. Solid selection of classic jazz and rock records. 2. Prices are generally pretty fair. 3. Records are meticulously labeled and documented. 4. Staff is super chill. (Shouts to Chris today) CONS: 1. I came out with two Frankenstein records unknowingly. I didn't expect this considering how well documented everything is. I purchased a copy of Jefferson airplanes "after bathing at Baxter's" in a first release sleeve, but opened it up to find a reissue from many years later. I also purchased a chick Corea compilation in a Geffen promo sleeve which turned out to be only 1 of 2 LPs from a comp that geffen never released. Someone just lost disc 2 and threw the first in a geffen promo sleeve for fun. I suppose this is my fault for not doing my homework ultimately, but make sure you check everything out before you pay. 2. Records from a lot of popular artists, especially in the jazz section, are marked up about 30% from their actual value. Majority of the selection is pretty spot on price-wise, but you'll pay a hefty premium on records from B.B. king, ray Charles, miles davis, etc.
google avatar

Philip H.

Yelp
No-go! Some bearded employee behind the counter dissed my taste in music, then hit on my girlfriend. I'm local and pro-business, even so hands-down worst music browsing experience in greater LA area in decades. Jacknife is an audience of one, steer clear it'll make you resent records.
google avatar

Ralph L.

Yelp
Pretty cool selection and fair prices. I prefer to support local shops like this, but the guy at the register was VERY rude and acted like he was being bothered from looking at his phone when asked if we could listen to a record. Cliche arrogant too cool for you record store guy persona. We put the record back and walked out. Would have bought it otherwise and honestly I won't be going back here.
google avatar

Ryan S.

Yelp
Wonderful used record shop in my neighborhood. Everytime I walk in to the shop I always end coming home with a gem. Prices are fair and the selection is vast. There's also a fine collection of used cds, cassette tapes, and vintage audio gear. The staff is very chill and helpful.

Yelp
This store posted a sale on instagram but when I called they said their discogs records didn't apply although the sale promotion said ALL RECORDS. If you don't want to honor a sale, you shouldn't post it. False advertising is not a good look for any business so customers beware!!
google avatar

Markus E.

Yelp
One of the many must-visit independent record stores in LA. Jacknife has a minimalist layout. Their selection is vast and rare. It's very organized and easy to sort through. The guys that work there know their music too. Jacknife is one of my new favorite boutique record shops.

Yelp
I love this place. Trevor is the best. What a great space, with so many groovy vinyl treasures!!

Yelp
The store is brand new; opened in early June and doesn't have much of a web presence yet. It is a small, speciality store, with two rows of record bins and probably not more than 1000-2000 items in stock currently. The store specializes in rock and jazz primarily, though other genres (world, blues, folk, etc.) have smaller sections included. On the one hand, I think it's great any time a new vinyl store opens, especially in this current climate. I also like a small store where I can comb through their stock in less than 30 minutes. And from what I can tell, the condition of the records here are immaculate. From what's in stock right now, the selection isn't terribly adventurous or left-field. They have good titles but not obscure or unusual ones (they are woefully weak on soul, but I'm assuming that's not a speciality there). This store seems to cater more for people who want really good condition records for titles they already know. You wouldn't, however, be surprised the same way you would, going to Wombleton or even Atomic. The bigger issue is that the pricing is not simply high, but based on what I could see, stunningly overpriced on many (though not all) items. Obviously, this is all relative but as someone who spends a lot of time in boutique record stores, even I know when pricing is untenable compared to what one might find either online or at another store. I used to think Atomic overpriced their wall items, but usually in the 20-30% above market rate. What I saw at Jack Knife was anywhere from 50-200% above what you'd expect in most reasonable cases. Don't take my word for it - I think vinyl hounds should visit the store and judge for yourself. As I said before, it's always good to support a new record store by at least visiting. However, if Jack Knife expects to sell any, it may want to reevaluate its pricing.

Yelp
Awesome collection of refurbished vintage audio equipment. This is my go-to neighborhood record store. The owner always has a kind word for me, even when he's weary of all the usual vinyl collector dorks with whom he is tasked with communicating. Walked in the other day and was looking around for a bit and Trevor says "What are you looking for?" I said I needed some early '70's Kinks vinyl. I looked and didn't see anything I needed in the racks. He comes walking out of the back room with a super minty gatefold copy of Muswell Hillbillies from '71. Although the man didn't give it to me for FREE, neither did he overcharge me for it. I know what it is worth, and that's exactly what he charged me. Win/win. To every bargain-hunter who leaves comments here about the price NOT being right: You can't fault a shop owner for charging what a record is worth. Especially when you just waltzed in there wearing $139 skinny jeans. You wanna haggle? 2nd Sunday of every month you can go to the Rose Bowl Flea Market and maybe save yourself 3 big bucks, if you don't mind the heatstroke. Or for the anti-social you can order your vinyl on Discogs from someone you don't know, if you don't mind paying extra for shipping. OR? Stream your songs on Spotify instead, because you just may not LIKE records well enough to part with some $ in exchange for them. Just own up to it. OR? Support your local record retailer.

Yelp
This is a cool shop. We came in looking for some good deals on vinyl to add to our collection. The assortment was decent, but a little pricier than the record shop we usually go to. The nice lady working there gave us a deal on some of the bargain albums in the crates by the front door. Only problem is when we got home we realized one of the albums we bought contained a different record than its cover (different artist entirely) so we'll probably go back to see if they'll let us exchange it for a different one..be sure to check what's inside matches what's on the outside! A good find, nonetheless!

Yelp
Before I had kids I always heard parents complain about how their young kids wouldn't eat anything other than junk food and pasta. Likewise, parents usually complain because all their kids listen to is Barney and crappy Top 40. But now that I have kids I made an amazing discovery: they eat what I feed them. If there is no junk food in the house, how is it that that is all they will eat? Similarly, if I play crappy Top 40 in the car, or let them sit in front of screens all day watching Barney, youtube, and having 10,000 song files to chose from, what should I expect to happen? I also realized that if you take your kid shopping with you, and actually communicate with them, they will help pick out kale and apples, and fixings for salad and soup, and then, since they helped pick it out, they will help prepare it and then be more likely to eat it and enjoy it because they feel like they are part of the process (which they are and should be). So this brings me to Jacknife Records and Tapes. If I listen to good music (which I do. Who doesn't think the music they listen to is good?), then my kids will listen to good music (do they have a choice at this young age?). And, as with shopping together for food, when I bring my kids into Jacknife and allow them to pick through the records and find stuff the "looks good," I have a better chance that my kids will listen to, for example, Bowie's Ziggy Stardust, or Bob Dylan, or Neil Young, or Nirvana or maybe even Radiohead or Pavement as their taste develops. So, bring your kids shopping with you and let them take part in the process... and by shopping I mean music shopping. It is not like downloading a song and watching it pop up on a screen. It is real and important to let kids see the covers and feel the materials, and pull out the record and set it on the turn table and drop the needle and hear the music come on. Just like it is better to wash, cut, and cook your food before you put it in your mouth than it is to pull into a drive through and have a ready-made Happy Meal pushed through your window. Bring your kids to Jacknife where the owner will help you raise your kids on good music. Let him be a member of the village that it takes to raise your child... without screens, fast food, dancing purple dinosaurs, cage fighting t-shirts, and music that you have to download onto tiny little boxes with glowing screens.

Yelp
I'm updating -- the store has moved up the block now, and it's a cozy location. The selection is great, and I love that Trevor Sharpies info on the plastic on each record that hangs on the wall. You can find classic vinyl to build your collection -- Fleetwood Mac's Tusk, for example -- or rare 12" singles that are actually quite reasonably priced. As I watch Atwater changing, I find comfort in places like Jacknife that keep the small town vibe. Remember, the Beastie Boys used to call this stretch of Glendale Blvd their stomping ground.

Yelp
I'm a cd guy that collects cd's. Thankfully, we now have a shop that can sell you cd's. I was looking for anything from Bob James to Big Black Delta. What ever really. As I'm shuffling thru memory lane, with nothing in particular in mind, I stumble upon an old friend, Dred Scott - Breakin' Combs. As I pick up the cd - the owner (Trevor) says, "You like that album huh?" I knew it and he knew it - that this was something that doesn't really pop up frequently. So in that instance a fellowship was made. Thank you sir. (Post scrip) Minimize buying music thru the internet - support your neighborhood record store.

Yelp
love this place, the owner is a very down to earth guy and really knows his stuff. I don't mind the prices at all, especially when i know that what i am buying will be in good condition or better. there is something here for everyone, the jazz section is amazing here. if you're new to the vinyl game he even has a starter section, where you'll find those "collectibles" at affordable prices. so for those who complain about high prices, i say "really?". this is not a thrift store, but a very well curated collection of records that other stores simply don't bother to stock. hey when someone is willing to play your picks before you buy them, and take the time to chat with you, it is worth every penny of my money. i hope jacknife is around for years to come, as i will be a forever customer.

Yelp
Jacknife is a standard-bearer shop. Firstly, it is nice to see a crew of record store clerks who seem to be singlehandedly trying to reverse the stereotype of dudes behind the counter. These guys are easy to talk to, super knowledgeable and not at all arrogant. They get that to run a successful shop the way you treat people matters, and I've always had excellent browsing sessions here. As for the merchandise, they truly honor the whole "Records & Tapes" honorific with a selection that is both lovingly curated and fairly priced. Also of interest is a pretty decent selection of hi-fi gear for the discerning earholes of the greater LA area. This is one of the places I miss most about living in LA, and though I haven't been to the new location a few doors down from the old, I trust these guys to have only made the new venue better. SUPPORT LA RECORD STORES!

Yelp
This place deserves 5 stars if only for how great the staff is! The selection is great, they truly have some gems. I've been there 3 times, and I've left a happy camper ever time. They are so knowledgable, they ALWAYS know what I'm talking about. And they've even PLAYED a record I was thinking about purchasing, so I could enjoy it first before making a decision. I'm a big Jazz/Bossa Nova fan...and at Jacknife, I'm like a kid in a candy store. The atmosphere is great, the people are great, the records are great! I'm happy to support this establishment!

Yelp
Here's the deal: Jacknife. Is. The. Best. Trevor has got everything you're looking for. And, bonus, he's got surprise gems you didn't even realize you needed. The service is exceptional, the vibe of the store is warm and welcoming, the collection is A++... I never want to leave once I'm in there. Great tunes are always playing when you walk in too. I always have a new piece of music to fall in love with, thanks to his top-notch taste. I'm so glad Jacknife exists.
google avatar

Yelp
Love love love this gem of a record store! The best thing about it is how it's organized. You can browse by category instead of artist, so if you just want some cool funky 70's stuff, you can go right to it. The owner is truly great person and he makes the atmosphere really welcoming. If you're looking for a great local business to support your music habit, this is the place.

Yelp
I love going to Jacknife because it's always fun. There is always something new on the vinyl wall that grabs my attention. The owner, Trevor, always has great recommendations, especially once he gets to know your musical taste. There are tons of tapes and vintage electronics as well. If you haven't listened to a tape in a while go buy something you used to listen to, when you listened to tapes, .... the sound will absolutely transport you. Warm toasty analog goodness, especially if you are lucky enough to have a tape player in your car. Finally, they press hand picked local releases on the Jacknife label... supporting local music! - All about the music! (you can waste an hour talking music geek stuff) - Product in ALL genres, graded and priced fairly - Vintage gear - A cornerstone of Atwater Village, a must visit

Yelp
I love me a independent record shop. I love it even more when I walk in to find a giant floor to ceiling wall of cassette tapes. Yeah, I said cassette tapes. They're having a renaissance, don't ya know?! Great selection and great prices on all their music. I didn't ask his name, but I'm guessing Trevor is the bearded man who rang up my selection of sewing music (i.e. my attempt to recreate my music collection from the 80/90s), only to bond over his love of George Michael's "Faith." See, no judgments here about your musical tastes. Great, little unpretentious shop. Go here, buy some music, and you will be a happier person.

Yelp
Trevor is a good dude with good taste! Copped an awesome cassette pressing of a Bizarre Ride II: The Pharcyde as well as Eno's Here Come The Warm Jets and a bootleg of eno bbc sessions. SO MANY CASSETTES. SO MANY RECORDS. SO MUCH YES.

Yelp
As I entered, the owner assured me that they had equal amounts of releases in all three formats. That said, I came looking for and was stunned to find... CASSETTES! Thousands of them as you walk in, perfectly organized by genre and then alphabetical. I'll go out on a limb and say this is the finest selection of cassettes you'll find in LA. He probably has as many as you'll find at Amoeba, but unlike that fine store's sadly picked-over selection, Trevor's is booming. Actual copies of albums by artists you're craving (eg 20+ Beatles cassettes, just for starters). Basically lots and lots of albums you love, in cassette editions you've never actually seen. Downside is they're not cheap. Mostly throughout LA you can pick up prerecorded tapes for $1-2 and sometimes $3. Depending on the store you may find good stuff or terrible stuff. Trevor's stuff is 100% killer, but his prices start at about $6 and go up to $25 (as far as I could tell). Prices are about the same as those for an equivalent vinyl version: eg Jam for $10-15, Tom Waits and hip hop for $20-25. I don't mean to suggest that Trevor is overcharging; imho cassettes are largely undervalued these days and I think his pricing is fair. So if you're collecting cassettes because they're cool and rare, come here. If you're grabbing them because they're cheaper than LPs, still come by but don't get your hopes up. If anything the prices will validate your decision to drop 50¢ each on Soul II Soul and Swing Out Sister tapes across the street at Out of the Closet.

Yelp
Very disappointed in my experience here. I pulled a record in front of a sign stating $5 records, when I brought it to the counter the clerk took the record to the back and coming back to telling me it's $40 if I want it. I chose not to pay their new price. Called a friend and told them about the incident without mentioning the stores name and my friend asked if this happened at Jack knife, I suppose this isn't the first time they've done this. Rather unprofessional, there are far better record stores within the area that care enough to not pull such stunts on their customers.

Yelp
Best there is. Trevor(the head honcho) is always playing jamz when I stop in. Very knowledgeable and friendly. Great selection of tapes and great prices. Always leave happy w/some great vinyl under my arm. Thanks Jacknife! P.S. Trevor is also capable of wearing a formidable beard on his face-equally as impressive as his selection.

Yelp
I'm a producer, music lover, and vinyl junkie. I recently went to Jacknife Records and definitely liked their selection of records, it was well organized and the dood at the counter was cool and helpful. The shop is small but has a lot packed in it to choose from and the prices are pretty fair. I'll be going back definitely.

Yelp
A real treasure in my neighborhood. The curation is stunning. The clerks are among the best I have found in Los Angeles. Prices are reasonable and they will find something if they don't have it in. Perfectly located this is truly one of the best vinyl shops in the city. If not the best. If you don't like this place you are either stupid or you don't understand. My vinyl addiction started here. Go there today

Yelp
This place is great. I just recently had them service a boom box with cassette that I ordered on eBay, listed as "thoroughly tested"...yeah, by who? Brian was great and took care of the problems in my "tested" unit so that it actually worked correctly. It sounds amazing and was repaired in a timely manner with excellent communication throughout the process. I feel very motivated to continue to shop there for tapes now that the repair went so well. Their counter people are good too, not snobby or guitarier-than thou... you know what I mean. Good selection of tapes and vinyl, and most importantly, close to that good taco place on Glendale.

Yelp
This place is a great surprise addition to the neighborhood. Plenty of stock to thumb through, all in fantastic condition; plus a lot of rare pressings, new reissues, and owner Dave knows his stuff inside and out - all with zero hipster attitude. In terms of the "rock selection", I've come across material I had forgotten about and haven't seen in years, and at real good prices. I'm no jazzbo, but there looks to be plenty to choose from, as well as real country I'd previously only read about ; folk; hard to find NWOBHM and early death/doom - Cirith Ungol! Carcass! - from back in the day, original pressings, etc . . . all sorts. If you want to hear something, you barely even have to ask. Plus, there's a ton of eight tracks, ones you'd actually listen to. When's the last time you saw the MC5's Back In The USA on eight track? If nothing else, they're really cool to look at. Anyway, a real comfortable and complete record store experience, just like it should be.

Yelp
Very small shop but still has a good selection. Staff was really friend and even took time to recommend other bands that I may like. Prices are not bad. Got a Oingo Boingo vinyl for 20 buck.

Yelp
Had a blast rifling through Trevor's vinyl selection on this fine Sunday morning. Extremely well-curated selection of records in fine condition and low/very reasonable prices. Interestingly organized. Not overstocked to the point of wanting to lose your mind, either. Great posters, too. All around, AWESOME nooks and crannies to poke through (look high and look low!). Very friendly staff. Very kind and accommodating. Can't wait to return!

Yelp
I've visited this store a few times as it's close to where I live. I don't get around as much as I use to so I don't stop in as often as I would like. Every time I do stop in I a greeted by the employee behind the counter or the owner, Trevor, himself. He's a really nice guy with great taste in experimental music and his recommendations are usually spot on. The majority of inventory here is vinyl and cassettes (yes you read right. Cassettes!).. If you looking for old cassettes and brand new cassette release look no further than Jacknife. They also sell a variety of vintage tape playback/record decks plus turntables, cassette filing cases and even brand new blank tapes still in original shrink for those who still have the gear like myself. The one cassette label I've discovered recently is the Constellation Tatsu and right away Trevor pointed me in the right direction where they had a variety of titles on this great little label. Sure, some of the records and cassettes in the store are quite pricey but they are in top notch condition (usually still in original factory shrink wrap). They also cater and support local artists by stocking inventory by them for very good prices. Every thing that Trevor has recommended to me meets my expectations. They also have a selection of used CDs up front against the wall. Everything is neatly organized for easy browsing. There's also a nice selection of used 7" vinyl but you will have to dig a little bit deep and get on your knees to access some of them but that's often the fun of great digging. In those bins are hidden gems plus a lot of local indie punk / alternative rock pressings on 7" vinyl are buried in there. If you are looking for classic hip hop cassettes this is the place to be as I've never seen so many out of print titles all in one location. There are some very rare hip hop cassettes behind the counter displayed on the wall with other genres of rare cassette tapes. Feel free to ask Trevor for what you are looking for as he has stuff that he has to put out. I went in there one time and all I needed to complete my Doors cassette collection were two cassettes, "13" album and "Strange Days". Sure enough he had an original copy in its original jewel case and gave it to me for a great price. A few months later I received an email that he finally got a copy of Strange Days in the store but by that time I had found that cassette somewhere. Just the fact that he remembered me and followed up was too cool indeed. Go in and support these type of mom and pops stores as they give back a lot to the community. peace. Only drawback is parking. It's all metered and in the front and usually pretty hard to find due to the number of businesses in the area but rest assured it's worth it. Just remember Feed That Meter! Atwater Parking Enforcement are like hawks swooping down on prey.

Yelp
I don't really want to crap on this place, because like other reviewers have stated they do actually have decent stuff and a large cassette selection, but as a cassette collector myself these prices are INSANITY, it's pretty ridiculous. It's one thing to sell tapes maybe a little more then their worth cause of the niche market and for consumers who might want that instant finding, but selling a tape thats probably worth $5 the most based off discogs and the flipping it for $25 is gross. I get it, tapes have become cool now and more people have been into collecting them but the whole purpose of buying tapes is cause they're supposed to be cheaper then vinyl and CD's, places like this can really kill and ruin these hobbies, besides all that the employee's are pretty nice.
