Guide to Bequia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines

"Set right on the sand of Princess Margaret Beach, this barefoot beachfront restaurant pairs an easy, beachy vibe with elevated Caribbean cuisine and colorful cocktails; staples like jerk pork and plantains sit alongside plentiful seafood and international dishes, making it a reliably recommended spot for both casual meals and sunset cocktails." - Carley Rojas Avila Carley Rojas Avila Carley Rojas Avila is a bilingual travel writer, editor, and content marketer. "Steps from the sand on Princess Margaret Beach, Jack’s Beach Bar is the perfect spot for an alfresco lunch, happy hour on the terrace, or both. It’s a good choice for dinner, too, although landside access is tricky, with lots of stairs and rough terrain that’s difficult to navigate in the dark. Whenever you come, look forward to local ingredients, prepared with an international touch. Pair the tropical quinoa salad with the catch of the day, or opt for the famous fried chicken, served with your choice of mango chutney, smoky barbecue sauce, blue cheese dip, or Mama’s Hot Sauce. If you’re having too much fun on the water, order something from the delivery menu and Jack’s will bring it directly to your boat—the restaurant delivers up to almost two miles from the beach."

It's a beach bar, so location location location. The cocktails were pretty good, and the food was ok, if slow to arrive, even on a quiet lunchtime. The shrimp roll (unfortunately it's not lobster season...) was pretty tasty, but my wife's fish wasn't great. The ceviche starter was pretty bland. But, cold Caribs on the beach. Yay.

Location location location. Fabulous beach restaurant. Burgers great. Coconut shrimp excellent. Baba Ganoush was a big disappointment- $30exd for a tablespoon of this appetizer. It was tasty but almost a joke because of the quantity (see photo barely the size of the fork tines) - or lack of. A manager came over to hear my complaint- but did nothing about it.

After visiting Bequia the day before, as one of the brief stops on a tour, I returned the next day. This time taking the fast ferry from Kingstown in St. Vincent and specifically to visit the iconic Jack’s Bar and Restaurant. Weeks before arriving in St. Vincent, I had communicated regularly with this location (via WhatsApp). Every time, they responded swiftly. So I knew what I was getting when I arrived here. After entering via the land (and back) entrance, descending steep stairs, I was finally here. I decided not to avail the beach chair, umbrella, towel and shower option for $22 US. Instead, take a front seat at the restaurant and allow the ambiance, scenery and stunning views of the ocean take me away. I was there a little after 9 am. The bar opens at 10 am and the restaurant at 11 am. They were kind enough to volunteer (unsolicited) to bring me a thirst quencher, their version of a Long Island Ice Tea. Even offered to open the kitchen early to serve me food. But I opted to just sip my beverage and absorb the place and the moment. It was memorable. The experience unforgettable. The all round service, from start to finish, nothing short of exceptional.

A great beach bar located perfectly on Princess Margaret beach. Service on the beach was helpful and regular. And lunch was enjoyed by all. We will return.

There were like 3 dogs and cat fighting each other while we were trying to eat and it was weird and super annoying and intrusive and no one in the restaurant staff cared. They were totally unbothered and didn’t even try to intervene or move them away from dining area.. this was a really big distraction not to mention the food was overpriced compared to other restaurants that we frequented while in bequia. Lastly the servings were minuscule, I’ll be back in bequia but not this place.

The service of the staff was great, along with the food and drinks. Listen if you forgot your towel you can always get that along with the rental of beach chairs. You are right on the white sandy beach where heaven exist on earth.

Great atmosphere, friendly staff, decent drink and food (with some caveats) over all decent service but can be better. The location is conveniently on the beach with nice views. The drinks were good, however, there were issues with our food and business’ response was lackluster. Four out of six of us in the group got the market fish, with mac and cheese along with a salad. The mac and cheese and salad were pretty on point (love veggies in the Caribbean). However, things fell apart with the fish. First we were told that the fish was a seasonal grilled snapper, however, we received fish that was clearly fried. We likely should have put up a fuss at this point, but nevertheless we decided to rock with it since we all tried a piece of the fish and it was seasoned well. The second issue as it turned out was that only one of the four servings of fish was cooked thoroughly. The three remaining servings were mushy in the center and clearly some additional cooking time. The center was not at all flaky like the ends. When our server inquired about the food we mentioned the issue with the fish not being cooked well and she said that she will tell the chef. At this point we had eaten out sides so all that was left was the mushy fish that we had pulled apart to make sure weren’t crazy. The server eventually comes back and the response we received was that the chef said they wished that we had mentioned something earlier. There was really no way to express any cooking issue any earlier since the bulkier center of the fish was what was not cooked well which we found out halfway through the meal. No offer was made to fix the issue and we truly could not be bothered since we were enjoying our day at the beach. We paid our bill and left with no plans to ever return. So it you plan to go here and order the market fish make sure they are clear on the preparation. And when you receive your fish make sure cut it down the middle to make sure it is cooked well.
