Don’t say excuse me the Spanish lady gone check you because she flirting for a tip but taking forever to work. The blonde one will constantly stare at you with no real reassurance to serve you. Nasty soggy hash browns, biscuit globs sliced with butter to play it off and everything else taste like rubber those eggs and bacon when there’s plenty of different brands yall serve rubber sheets of bacon. I should have gotten the potatoes they charge more at that, if I wanted moist wet potatoes. Tryna support something I haven’t had in a decade no wonder. Whole time I was wondering do they still have roaches 🪳 the butter on the biscuits don’t even taste real that meal met the trash I feel robbed

I had liver with onions and gravy, and rice and gravy, eggs, sunny side up, side pancake, and two buttermilk biscuits. I asked for hot water and lemon. Was told by the waitress she do not give lemon only for tea. I asked a different waiter and she gave me a lemon with no problem. My friend had chicken wings, hash browns, scrambled eggs, and pancake. The food did not have seasoning too it.

The food wasn’t bad at all, I was just kind of surprised to see a sheet of processed cheese for their cheese grits. And the service was also good. What bothered me the most was me and my lady friend noticed a wallet being turned in by a customer to a young female server. That same server opened the wallet up and took the cash out to split with her young male co worker. I was shocked at the the boldness because we weren’t the only ones still sitting down eating but the young lady was talking to a male customer, as she rummaged through the wallet, who I figured he may just be a regular customer. I’ll come patronize this business still.

Door dash delivery so rate service/atmosphere. First timer. NO SEASONING on entire meal. Ordered cheese eggs, grits wings, wheat toast and bacon. ONE egg had specks of cheese, bread warmed not toasted and wings were cooked perfectly. No seasoning, nothing plastic eating utensils, and no napkins. Overall food arrived hot.

I ordered for pick up. The pancakes and French toast were burnt and had little to no butter . Chicken had no seasoning. They didn’t send any utensils. The homemade biscuits were delicious!

The food was very bland today it was very tasteless and my husband paid extra for cheese on his grits and never received it , the salmon croquettes didn’t have any flavor what so ever no cooked onion throughout I been going here for a year and it’s getting worse

Jack’s Family Cafe was once a beloved hub in the community, especially on Sunday mornings when it was packed with churchgoers and familiar faces. Since the change in ownership, however the energy has faded. The atmosphere feels off and it’s hard not to notice the drop in customers. Many feel that the cultural connection that oncce made Jack’s special is no longer there!!!!! The "new ownership" has raised concerns, esspecially after the restaurant closed for an "entire week" because the owners went on vacation leaving staff without pay and the community without notice. In a working class neighborhood that kind of decision has real consequences. Regulars are still talking about it and trust has been shhaken. Though the prices remain reasonable and the location convenient the heart of Jack’s is missing. A few Black waitresses remain out front but the kitchen staff no longer reflects the community the restaurant once proudly represented. Many are left feeling like Jack’s is being presented as something it’s not and it shows!!!

Salmon croquettes were under cooked, more like raw and mushy without one pinch of seasoning🤮 Grits and eggs were ok.

Since 1969 Jack's Family Kitchen has been operating. My first visit to this 55 year old institution occurred recently. Invited by a friend I was grateful to have added another breakfast spot to the rotation. Jack's stayed busy so that's always a good sign that the food is tasty. I ordered light - half French toast, two eggs and cranberry juice. Peggy our waitress was friendly and provided exceptional service in the face of a crowded house. The French toast and Eggs were pleasant to the palate. On the walls at Jack's are icons, Kobe, the Obama's, and Dr. king. I recommend Jack's.

At first we were excited to try the food but our experience was ruined by staff. I really hate to make this review about race but, my experience went like this. Food was ok, not the best but good. The service though wow, we were the only Latino family at the moment eating and we got lousy and seemingly annoyed service by staff, while everyone else got warm greetings. We had to get up and ask for stuff, the elder waitress kept giving us looks from afar, at all times never used a polite tone of voice, even with my children. Only when they noticed we weren't happy did they make an effort to come to our table. Ate my food, told my wife, "eff, this place there's other spots where we can eat, we aren't coming back here" Never eating at this spot again. 2 stars because at least my food was good but, horrible and rude service.

It's really like a 2.6 star. The biggest problem? The food was nasty, no seasoning(super surprised by this), just overall bad. I ordered the veggie omelet the only thing in it was green peppers it seemed. They threw those mini slices of cheese on top. Hashbrowns were cooked the way I like them but they were bland. All the ketchup in the world couldn't help them. My cousin didn't want her cheese grits she gave them to me, and they were NASTY and flavorless. When we walked in, we joked about a man sitting there putting jelly in his grits. After we got our plates, we realized he may have been on to something...Lol My cousin had the smothered chicken plate she said the only thing good were her biscuits. Ambiance was good reminds me of a breakfast place back home. Music was jamming. I know a lot of the comments talk about the attitude of the waitresses but we didn't experience that. No complaints in that area. I can scratch it off my Yelp list and I doubt if I go back.

I've been going to Jack's since I was a kid. It was introduced to me by my Uncle Sticks, who was one of Jack's best friends. My uncle used to go to Jack's almost daily when he was in town (he was a truck driver)...of course to eat and spend time playing pool and dominoes with Jack and all their other buddies. Fast forward to today, both Jack and my uncle have passed, but the legacy of Jack's still lives on through his wife and other family members who still work hard to keep Jack's going and deliver the level of customer service and quality food that people have all become used to. My hunny also grew up in the area and was a regular at Jack's. We've come to miss it and have made it a point to go more often. The amazing southern home cooked style constantly makes us crave their breakfast. From the pork chops and eggs, fried chicken, and salmon croquettes to the bacon and eggs, pork sausage patties and the newly discovered bomb ass steak and eggs; you'll walk out of there feeling very satisfied! The food is always seasoned well, not greasy, and well-priced! Other patrons are also very friendly and many also know each other. It has become a local hangout for the newer generations. I love that you see people of all races and ethnicities represented in there. When I was growing up, it was rare that other races and ethnicities would come in, even though Jack's has always been welcoming to all for as long as I can They're only open until 2:30pm, so if you plan to go, go early enough. The lot gets full at times, but there is street parking either in front or on one of the side streets.

I remember coming here as a kid...so i decided to place a order and come pick it up after paying i was distracted by another customer in conversation and didn't look at my receipt and noticed that I was charged extra and I left a tip and when I called back in, she explained that I purchased the pork chops separate when I ordered the combo that was listed online that says French toast is included in the pork chops and include with the wings and that the extra charge was for two orders of French toast cause it was separate and that is accurate so I wasn't overcharged. My order should've been $44.50 and my order was $67.34 and I left a $10 tip so almost paid an extra $32.84 including the tip for nothing and they didn't refund my money.

I love Jack's they have the best fried chicken and chicken sausage!!! One of my favorite breakfast spots.

Food great , a little over priced for a sandwich. Music is soulful so great if dining in .

I ordered breakfast this morning and it was delicious. I ordered the chicken wings, homestyle potatoes and eggs over easy with an English muffin. The chicken was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, seasoned perfectly. Very few restaurants add bell peppers and onions to their homestyle potatoes, but Jack's does, which made me so happy. If I put ketchup on my potatoes or hot sauce on my chicken it's because I'm trying to make the food taste better. I did not have to add ketchup or hot sauce. I called to let them know the food was delicious. The person that answered the phone was so friendly and polite. I can't speak to the ambience because I ordered through DoorDash. I was told they will be closed soon for the holidays and reopen in January. I'm looking forward to ordering more food from Jack's.

Food is so fresh here! They get busy so if you expect to come in and get served right away you're wrong. Waitresses are so friendly. I loved the chicken link that is my go to. Fresh fresh made to order food. Definitely recommend this place.

Every Sunday I order breakfast from Jack's, I have yet to ever be disappointed. Everything is always fresh, hit and extremely tasty. The portions are a good size. I order two breakfasts and we (me and mom) even have enough leftover for another meal. I have no idea what I'm going to do after I try everything on the menu. Lol But for now, I'm going to keep up my Sunday breakfast ritual of eating at Jacks. The steak I had this morning was tender and seasoned to perfection. The salmon croquettes and pork chops have also been delicious!!! The pancakes and French toast--yummy!! I honestly can't even chose a favorite item. But if you held a gun to my head I guess I'd chose the steak and pancakes with the fried chicken coming in a close second. Long story short---get to Jack's

Food is great and consistent. Home made breakfast! When you want some good down home breakfast Jacks Family Kitchen is the place to go.

I was looking for a place tk have breakfast before my flight, this was NOT a good choice. I sat at the counter and the woman who helped me just didn't seem to like her job on this day. I don't need entertainment but wow was it freezing. I ordered grits in a bowl, I got them on a plate. I ordered French toast crispy I got burnt on the outside and soggy on the inside. But the water was cold and the eggs were scrambled. I would come back here but it seems to be the kind of place that is heavy on the neighborhood and I think those places are jewels for the community.

Tasty and traditional breakfast options. Definitely reminds me of southern comfort food. A variety of tasty options between traditional breakfast plate or fried chicken and chicken fried steak. We also love Jack's because it is one of few places you can get grits in LA. The interior dining is quite small, but they are quick and efficient with online and phone order to go. The lady that answers the phone is very kind and when you pick up the food, the wait was not long. This is definitely a great go to spot for breakfast.

Love this place. Coming from Brooklyn NYC, this place is a warm hug and touch of family. Order up & get ready to grub. It's all good here. Pa'lante

This place has become our favorite Sunday morning spot. Hands down! We have tried the country fried steak, pork patty breakfast, French toast, pork chops, biscuits, pancakes, chicken wings and I even tried the cheeseburger.. oh yes the bacon, home country potatoes, OMGawwd! This place is a hole in the wall and it they have a home cooking feel,vibe sometimes comes with the attitude but I don't expect anything less. I recommend the pork patty breakfast, pork chops, bacon, hone country potatoes is a must upgrade. More fulfillment. For us big guys. Try this place. Don't be scared.

I wish there was half star on Yelp! I want to give Jack's a 3 1/2; but I'm going to go with a 4. The 3 1/2 is for space and parking. Both are beyond limited so pack your patience and just park on the street. This was my 2nd time here, I think the first was during the week or much earlier on the weekend. They open at 6am, so go before 9! I ordered the chicken sausage breakfast w/country potatoes (there's an extra cost for that), my son got the 4 French toast and my husband got the Chicken Sausage Breakfast. Our meals were good, son said the french toast was "just okay" This is a small homely spot, the servers are very nice and attentive. We ended up sitting at the counter for faster seating. After, we went to the coffee spot on the corner, South LA Cafe. I'd return if I'm on that side of town in the early morning.

When I walked through the door, I felt like I was walking in the my mother's kitchen. The ambience was incredible. Regulars were there and newcomers all sitting on the counter ordering some amazing food. This is the kind of food. I eat at home but with additional love and care from the host. Enjoyed my breakfast good cup of coffee and lots of love..

This place is only open for breakfast. It's small so it does get packed. Come here for breakfast and get out so someone else can sit down . The food was amazing, Service was top-notch. Great neighborhood breakfast spot.

Meh.... Local spot for the locals. The food was really bland. It's not a place the specializes in anything spectacular. It's more of a place, that you come in... eat at the bar... and go about your merry way to somewhere else. It's a restaurant with devoted neighbors who grew up going there. The younger waitress was very nice and welcoming, on the other hand... the other waitress... just terrible... the attitude not cute especially coming from her season in life. Overall, the patrons were nice and friendly, lots of shop talk.

Been here maybe 10 times, each visit on a different year... And yes, the 10th visit was a couple of days ago. Always a great place, filled with memories and happy dining experiences.

It is what it is, breakfast done simply and deliciously. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The service is great and there is an old school diner vibe when dining in this establishment. Jacks is a staple in the community and definitely worth a visit!!!

Black Owned Family Restaurant! Neighborhood Gem for YEARS! We were Greeted & seated by Friendly Staff. The Vibe is Cozy & Comfortable! Now for Food! Fluffy Pancakes, Chicken wings are really good, nice sized Biscuits ( YUMMY) Croquettes also good. Food arrived to our table good & Hot! I'm glad they were able to sustain during Covid! Good Food !

I'm only writing this review because this is the 5th time I've ordered Togo and didn't receive utensils. I tend to order on my way to the airport or to even enjoy in the park across the street but I'm always left disappointed BECAUSE I HAVE NOTHING TO EAG THE FOOD WITH. At least ask me if I need it. Don't ASSUME. I could ask but I also ASSUME it would come with TOGO because maybe I want to eat the food, on the go?!?!?!?!?!? I'm on a road trip to Arizona with no way to eat the food. I'm truly sad about it. And being that I'm on tour, we aren't stopping until we get there. THANKS A LOT :( Love the food. And the old lady's are sweet sometimes. I understand. It's 6am, it would be hard for me to be extremely nice that early too.

So my cousin took me to this place said it was good. We walk in, the atmosphere was very warm and welcoming. Customers was greetings good morning I thought, this is a very nice place. A very nice young lady said 2? Take a seat where you like. Then the black cloud appears in the form of a waitress from hell. First off, she didn't greet us or even say good morning. She just said" what's your order ( with her face all frowned up). It's 8:40 in the morning, (dang you already mad). She should have stayed home. We got are food, it wasn't spectacular. It was just all right. I have had way better. Are rude waitresses still walked around with the ugly look on her face. I was so uncomfortable. I didn't even want to ask for a to go box. My kuzzen ask and she was like I'm figuring this ticket out I'll get it in a minute. That was it. When she brought it to us, my cousin was like are you OK? You have very bad attitude and poor customer service. At this point I was walking out. I Will not be going back there. It's to early in the morning for negative vibes. Breakfast that's not all that. Maybe because I was so uncomfortable there. I won't be finding out, that's a wrap for me. Everyone one else was very pleasantly polite.

I enjoy the food here. The steak and grits with conutry potatoes are a great breakfast. Yes, they have the best biscuits in town. Easy to order or pick up and great price. Service is quick and they get my order correct every time.

I have order food from here twice within the last two weeks and it was DISGUSTING . The first time it was okay I had to doctor it up . Today's food though ? Absolutely disgusting,horrible I got the homestyle potatoes why are my potatoes still hard ?? Like literally uncooked in the middle and all my veggies burnt. My French toast ?? BURNT . Only thing I could eat was my turkey bacon. I'm pregnant and couldn't even eat my breakfast this morning literally threw it in the trash. Whoever is in the kitchen needs to be fired immediately. Let's also mention how both times I order there was no silverware in my bag, no napkins, 2 packets of ketchup when I'm ordering for more than 1 person the first time I spent $50 today I spent $65 for it to be a waste .

This is black owned family restaurant and I've always supported black and brown family owned businesses. I've driven by here many times, but either they were jammed back or closed. As my last days in LA come to close decided to stop in before work. Got there maybe be about 20 minutes after they open. This is place is open quite early. When you step in, one can why it is packed. There are about 30 counter seats, 2 which are reserved for waiting for your take out order. The booths are for two or more people and it says so. Staff is friendly and Peggy served me. They not too overly friendly, you hoping you give them a tip at the end. I tend to tip better when my server is not trying too hard. Take my order, give me my food or drink, checks in once or twice and I'm good. I love these little diners, basic food and not fancy smancy. It's popular with the contractors and construction folks. So if you looking for a contractor.... I'm just saying. The vibe here good the music is some good old school R & B and Soul. Just enough that you can hear the lyrics but still have a conversation. I settled on a Denver Omlette and grits and pancakes. The grits were the best I'd had in a long time. I was about to order me a side to go along with some biscuits but I had to get to work. They also offer alternative meats to pork and beef. This means turkey bacon, turkey and chicken links, and chicken patties. I was so hungry I forgot to take a picture. Try them out but get there early.

First time here, great customer service. Down home in yo' mama kitchen cooking. Food was on point, I had salmon croquettes, grits, scrambled eggs and biscuits.

They have become such a tasteless restaurant. I will not be ordering from them any more. The food has become horrible and is no longer able to satisfy my hunger.

Finally made my way over to this place after being close by for all these years. Word of mouth said this was the place to be. The downfall is the wait time because the place is small, and seating is limited. After waiting almost 40 mins and being seated at the counter the food was just average. Sausage and eggs can be good, and it can be great but this one was right in the middle. I would for sure go here again to try something different it just won't be on a weekend. Our server was great tho and very friendly.

I've been coming to Jacks for the last 50 years. The service is good, the food is great, the cook is the same, and so are the waitresses. Don't miss this one!

I've been eating at Jack's since I was 10 years old. I, myself along with the families in the neighborhood knew the Davenport family. Jack's used to stay open til midnight, do you could go get a fried chicken dinner or a cheeseburger. Jack or his brother George was in the back cooking! Fresh, hot food morning, noon or night? Go to Jack's!

We've started three family birthdays with breakfast here because of the love and fab food. Rice with gravy or grits are yummy. Crispy chicken wings, bacon and pork chops are tasty. The smiles are welcoming like the witty sayings on the walls

Old school breakfast diner with friendly customer service, delicious food, great prices and the absolute best coffee! They've been in business for over 50 years. If you've never tried them please do so. You can dine in or take your food to go. You won't be disappointed.

First time trying a breakfast here and it was AMAZING!!! The eggs, French toast, and home fried potatoes were made perfectly. For Meat I got the smoked sausage, and I have to say that's the best smoked sausage In all the land! I will definitely be coming back for more breakfast

Take-Out Review A great little neighborhood breakfast joint. If you go on a Sunday, make sure to order in advance, it takes at least 30 minutes for your food to be ready - mainly because they are completely packed for takeout. Everyone is working super hard and they are such a friendly staff. Hash brown was delicious...I had the hot chicken sausage which was also very good. My fiance had the chicken fried steak and thought it was ok, and the biscuits and gravy was not my favorite. BUT, I really do want to try more of their menu out... non-stop cars pulling up and there were so many tickets on their counter, I can't imagine what it used to be like when there was in-person dining - it's a pretty small restaurant. They do have a parking lot next to the building but plenty of easy street parking.

A search for grits & chicken sausage in South Los Angeles yielded Jack's Family Kitchen and for that I am grateful. Mid Saturday morning the place was jumping with patrons who clearly already know that good eats are in store. We ordered the liver & onions, with biscuit, grits; followed by chicken sausage, pancake, eggs & hash browns. The star of the show for my dining partner was the liver & onions, generous portion of which my dining partner kept reveling at how tender the liver was. I did the happy dance in my seat as I nibbled on the chicken sausage - flavorful, meaty & a good patty size. I wish I knew who sourced the sausages so I could have them at home! All the waitstaff was in friendly spirits, helping each other out, and laughing with the regular patrons, calling many of them by first name. Great service, delicious food at reasonable prices, and opportunity to chat with your fellow dining patrons. So happy to have found Jacks and look forward to trying other menu items on my next visit.
