Why Voters Will Always Love Seeing Politicians Stuff Their Faces | Eater

"An independent restaurant in Marshalltown offering Vietnamese, Laotian, and Thai cuisine that exemplifies the ethnic and immigrant-run businesses present in small Midwestern towns — part of the local culinary ecosystem often overlooked by campaign scouting but central to everyday community life." - Meghan McCarron

Pho was disgusting. Got the Pho Chicken, the serving plate was dried up, broth was watery and clear. Not authentic in the slightest. Owner admitted to cutting back on meat in another review, and it's quite true. Only got about 6 small pieces. Crab rangoons were better than the main dish. Only good thing I can say about it is that the waitress was nice. Don't waste your time here.

Google
Drove by this place many times and finally made it a point to drive down and stop in. Very extensive menu...there's so much that looks very good but we had it mind to get the Pho....it did not disappoint! The waitress was extremely helpful in helping us navigate the menu and the choices. We actually started with the Chicken on a Stick with a sweet chili sauce dipping sauce...very good! Crispy yet tender chicken. The Pho Do Bien wasvthe Seafood Pho choice for me...a variety of seafood and noodles was delicious and served in a HUGE bowl! The Pho Tai Bo Vien was the Meat Pho choice for the Mrs..and it was awesome and plentiful as well. Come hungry as the portions are very generous and delicious...we added some of the various sauces that are available on the table such as hoisen(?spelling) and siracha....if you use the secret red sauce that's on the table be very careful...it'll tickle your taste buds for sure ❤️‍🔥 We'll definitely be back!!

Google
Best pad Thai I’ve ever had, hands down. I ordered the chicken pad Thai, fresh spring rolls, taro bubble tea, and two sides of the homemade hot sauce. The spring rolls were okay, but still good. The bubble tea tasted great and they had lots of options for flavors. The hot sauce brought tears to my eyes from how hot it was, but it was well worth it. so delicious!! I will definitely be ordering the larger size next time!! Couldn’t recommend this place more! The prices are reasonable, staff is friendly, the place is clean.

Had a great time here with my sister. Don't have any really good pho places in Cedar Falls so I was excited to try this when visiting my sister. The pho was really good and filling! It was just the right amount for me to be able to finish in one meal. We even got an appetizer (crispy fried pork dumplings) that was amazing and I was able to finish my pho as well. Service was really good, wait staff was on top of refills and checking on us despite being busy and only having two waitstaff at the time. I'll probably take my wife here next time we're in Marshalltown .

Google
Pho was not good. Rated top 9 in IA is a rough sign... broth was bland, noodles were over cooked, pre plate was dried out. Crab Rangoon were okay but not good. The place was clean, the service was fine and it was cheap but as the owner admits this is at the cost of very little meat in the pho.

If you are a lover of Asian Flavors then Jack's needs to be in your Address Book. All the different Pho dishes, Spring Rolls. The best, hands down, Crab Ragoons. Dumplings, and one of my C C s.."constant craving" Sticky Rice with Jaew Bong ( Homemade Hot Chili Paste ) Plus Chinese Entrees and much more. They are a family owned and ran business and it shows..attention to detail, flavor and presentation makes your dining experience the best. I'm sure there is something to please everyone

Google
Excellent Pho restaurant! Best pho I've had in Iowa by far! Service was very friendly and attentive. And the house made hot oil is a great addition to the already delicious bowl!!

Google
Literally delicious. My friend and I go there almost weekly and it's always delicious. The staff is super kind and nice and the vibe is a 10/10. The pho is actually godly and if it was the only thing I could eat for the rest of my life I would be happy. They have a ton of sauces and stuff to add as well, along with lime and beans, so the flavor can be completely different up to you. I totally recommend the P1 if you're nervous and new to pho, (I like it with extra beef). 100000000000/10 overall literally my favorite place in all of marshalltown.

Yelp
The food is very good not gonna lie. But, when my mom ordered from there and received the order, two of the same order items were not there so yeah kinda disappointed for me of course. That's all cool

Yelp
Jack's Pho' House is truly authentic Lao food. My wife is Lao and she had the beef larb and loved every bite. I had the Việt bánh mi sandwich, it was also perfectly authentic. The entire staff was professional and friendly and the prices were more than reasonable. The next time we are in Iowa we will make sure we stop again. Thank you so much.

Yelp
Jack's Pho' House was a great stop on our trip from eastern Indiana. The food was authentic, flavorful and unexpectedly some of the best food we had on our trip. I highly recommend you stop in for a meal.

Yelp
The veggie pho is always on point. My family loves the boba tea and the spring rolls with peanut sauce makes me happy. Staff if warm and friendly.

Yelp
Reviews are correct! This place is a must stop of all asian food lovers, and vegans. Stopped by 10 minutes before lunch time ended, yet was still very welcome and accommodate a sit down lunch. I ordered vegan Pho. Went for the medium bowl...and let me tell you it's LARGE and delicious. The place itself is a bit more dated now but clean. The freshly made food and service is a wonderful highlight on ones busy day. Affordable pricing. Defiantly, worth a visit.

Yelp
We have been here quite a few times and it has always been great! Tonight we had fast service and the appetizers were on the table before we could even place our food order. We got the chicken on a stick, rangoon (best in town), and the chicken spring rolls with this amazing peanut dipping sauce. The kids both got the P3 beef pho in the medium size, which is the smallest size...but huge. We always have leftovers. I got the garlic pepper beef and my husband got the appetizer platter with an egg roll, crab Rangoon, and pork dumplings. Both of these came with sticky rice in a cute little container. The waitress was helpful with suggestions and the server that came back to check on drinks was excellent in timing. All of the food was perfect, as usual, and the service was the best we have had here.

Yelp
I always love going to Jack's. The food is amazing and always fresh. I highly recommend their pho, garlic pepper beef, and crab Rangoon.

Yelp
The best pad Thai. I love the feel in here and that the family runs the business and work together here.

Yelp
Very good. It lives up to its ratings. My granddaughter who is a self proclaimed Pho expert said it was the second best she has had. I really liked my sweet and sour chicken. My wife loved the egg rolls. Will go again..

Yelp
I love the pho and the lettuce wraps and the laap! The staff are so great. Wendy makes our food just right (extra cilantro!!)! The pho has always been great but she just recently revamped her recipe and OMG, it's delish!

Yelp
I wish this place was more consistent with the times they are open. Great food and wonderful gluten free/dairy free options!!!

Yelp
Love having a plant based friendly option in a town that could use more tasty and healthy dining options. We have loved everything we have tried. The staff is friendly and professional and they will do their best to accommodate dietary needs. We have been so grateful to have this as an option for when we want a treat. We even grab banh mi's and some sides and eat them at the pub down the street. Makes for a fun and casual night out.

Yelp
Wow!! I never expected to find a decent Pho place, let alone a great one, in the Midwest. I have had authentic Pho before, and this broth is just as good, if not better. Could have a little more meat, but it filled me up just as good as anything else. I ordered fresh spring rolls and they are HUGE! Last time I had the combo pad Thai and it was good, I easily made two meals out of it. The staff is super friendly and attentive, with great recommendations. This is going to be a regular place for me!

Yelp
I am only reviewing based on my first and only visit and what I ordered. I had Pho and spring rolls. First, the spring rolls were not tightly rolled, so they fell apart upon first bite. I eat Pho all the time and all over the 5 state area. I hardly have bad Pho. This Pho is totally bland broth, noodles were under cooked (starchy), and amount of goodies they put in it was such a small portion. I'm not big on negative reviews, especially to small business owners who have skin in the game, but this is in hope they change in my experience is not what others will have in the future. My recommendation, go to a bunch of Pho restaurants and improve what you are doing.

Yelp
This is a great place to eat. You will never leave not satisfied. I highly recommend it.

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised. A friend of mine had warned me beforehand that I was not going to like this place. I'm delighted that turned out not to be the case. A few of my friends and I went here for lunch and the place wasn't too busy which I can only attribute to most people in Marshalltown not knowing about this restaurant yet. I came in for the Pho so I ordered the P3 which is their combination entry. The Pho was great, and it's good to see that this is now another good option to eat in Marshalltown. The wait was fairly short, and the staff were very attentive. The lady who took our order asked if we had any questions and she explained what dishes they could modify to accommodate the vegetarian in our group. The only minor complaints I have about the restaurant is that they could put a little more of the "meat" ingredients in the serving. Two shrimps, and 1 piece of sausage and beef each is a little stingy for the price. Also there should be an option to make any entry spicy. If the restaurant improves on these suggestions, this will become one of my favorite places to eat in town.

Yelp
Every kind of food that I have tried has been great! My personal favorite is the pork sandwich and crab ragoons. The drunken noodles and Laotian stir fry are also delicious. And the spring rolls don't disappoint either. Wash it all down with a Thai tea and you will definitely be back for more. The food here is great! The reason I am giving only 4 stars is due the hours that the restaurant operates, as I find them to be less than convenient.

Yelp
Fabulous pho soup that I absolutely crave!!! Their roasted chili sauce to put on top is beyond delicious and (thankfully) available by the jar! You can't go wrong here! Owners are terrific and know how to cook!

Sarah V.

Yelp
I agree with other yelpers. The pho was disappointing and completely missed the mark. There are other notable foods there however the pho left something to be desired. I would find it unfortunate that if someone were to go there to experience Pho for the first time, they would be surprised that it would be different (more traditional and not Americanized) in other restaurants than what they first experienced. Edit worth adding: I have not visited Jack's since my last visit but I hear that they have revamped their recipe. I recently came across comments from the owners threatening an individual who didn't care for the pho. After I read how they treated this customer for not believing their pho was the best in the world, I won't be returning to try their new recipe.

Yelp
I have been to many pho restaurants. This is not authentic in flavor. Little meat, I paid for extra and still for 5 little pieces. No mint offered as well?? Definitely need to make the drive to a bigger town for some authentic dishes. The staff is nice food not so much.

Yelp
Crab Ragoons & Combination Soup Beef, Pork, & Shrimp. If you are not familiar with the food ask the friendly staff for pointers. Pretty happy with the choice

Yelp
They serve good spring rolls with good spring roll sauce. The family that runs the restaurant is nice. I would suggest that they add more dishes to their menu.

Yelp
Disappointing. We go through Marshalltown about once a month so wanted to try something different. I love Pho, have eaten it in Asia and we have a good place for it here at home. The pho here was the worst I've had; greasy tasteless broth, and what little meat it had was tough. Bland and flavorless. The spring rolls were good. The fried dumplings were overcooked to a dark brown color. Staff was nice but the food was bad. We won't be back.

Casey L.

Yelp
Excellent Vietnamese restaurant in a quaint Main Street location in the center of town. Friendly family run business- Authentic Vietnamese. The veggie spring rolls were fresh and delicious , the Banh Mi chicken sandwiches were delicious and every bit as good as ones I've had in chicago , and the pho soup was perfect with tasty broth , crisp veggies , and soft tender slices of beef. A gem in the middle of Iowa.

Yelp
Stopped for lunch. Excellent sandwiches and great service. The best pork sandwich. Can't eat just one. Stopped again and had the pho (vietnamese noodles) everything here is good.
