Knaus Berry Farm Owner in Critical Condition After Allegedly Being Beaten by Son | Eater Miami

"I learned that Rachel Knaus Grafe was airlifted to Jackson South hospital after being found beaten on February 17; she remains in critical condition with multiple injuries to her head and chest but has shown "slight improvement," according to Instagram. Detectives also found Herbert Grafe at Jackson South with a head injury the same evening, and he told them he did not know how he was hurt because he had lost consciousness." - Olee Fowler

I was actually reluctant to come here only because I’ve only ever gone to Baptist hospital but wow I’m am so happy I came here. The ER nurse Alexander was truly amazing, and is just amazing at his job, very professional. The staff you can very clearly tell loves what they do and are extremely considerate people. I am so grateful I came here. I was treated with so much love and care.

I had the privilege of being assisted by Mr. Ulises Alvarez at the Population Health Specialists department, and I felt compelled to share my positive experience. I needed help applying for the Jackson Card for my mother, who is elderly and has significant medical needs. The application process was complex, but Mr. Alvarez provided invaluable guidance every step of the way. He was patient and extremely knowledgeable, ensuring every document was submitted correctly. Because of his help, my mother now has access to the healthcare she desperately needs. I am deeply grateful to Mr. Alvarez for his professionalism and to the Jackson Health System for offering such compassionate support to those of us with limited resources.

It his has been the worst experience ever as a family member of a patient. A CT scan was ordered at 5:00 PM for a head injury, and now it’s 9:20 PM still no update, no information, nothing. This is a complete disaster. It’s truly a shame to see how this public healthcare system works. As a healthcare professional myself, I feel embarrassed and disappointed. It’s clear that there’s often not enough staff, and those who are here don’t seem to care. Everything ends up leading to the worst patient outcomes. What a disaster

Google
Staff are nice but no signage anywhere. Impossible to find your own way around. My mother was put on a puréed diet for no reason and it took two days to change it. I just spent $17 in the cafeteria for some pasta so she could eat something. The food served bedside looks like a mix of cat food pate and baby food.

I had a recent trip to the E.R./ & can’t talk more highly enough of the staff & experience. From start to finish, I was treated w/ friendliness, attention, & care. The nurses & techs treated me so well/ & eased my anxiety. I was also impressed by how swiftly I was attended to/ & always w/ the utmost professionalism. The following day there was a f/u call, which impressed me all the more. JMH-S is doing an amazing job. Kudos! Hats Off to you all.

We were here visiting a patient a few times, and had pretty good experiences. The hospital itself is very clean (which is good!), and updated. The parking lot is pretty big, but depending on the time of day, could be a bit challenging to find a spot. The front desk for us was hit or miss. At some times, it was easy to check in and be able to go see our loved one; however, at other times, they were adamant that only two visitors could be on site. It depended on who was running the front desk. The physicians, nurses, technicians, and food service staff we encountered were amazing. Everyone was warm and personable, and you could tell that patient care was their utmost concern. The waiting areas were nice and roomy, and had outlets if you need to charge your phone. Overall, this is a pretty good hospital for inpatients. I hope I don't have to visit again, but if needed, I would!

Staff was professional, compassionate, and attentive. The nurses went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable and informed about every step. 💯

Google
This hospital is HORRIBLE! If you have an elderly patient they don’t care about them or you. While my parent needed angioplasties on both legs the hospital did one leg and didn’t bother to do that one right away and waited days to get it done while it was obvious they’re 83 with ulcers on one foot and severe discoloration they needed to be performed as soon as they arrived. Meanwhile if you’re calling and trying to reach them the nurses or whomever at their stations give you the run around and could never get someone to just tell me that they were unreachable because they didn’t have a phone in their room.

Yelp
I was admitted through the emergency room for a surgery. For the most part, everybody was on point and paying attention. There's a lot of stuff going on at that hospital so you have to be able to relax and let other things happen around you. It's a trauma hospital. I had a semi private room. The staff were all very caring and attentive. My surgery was delayed a day by extra traumas, but eventually happened and my recovery was successful.

Yelp
I was in the ER with my cousin on October 9th. While we were there waiting, a Patient Support Specialist named Marina was very hospitable. She noticed that my mother was saying that she is hungry, then she proceeded to offer her a sandwich and something to drink as well. Marina was very engaged at her job, as well as being attentive to her, and patients. We greatly appreciate her, and hospitality.

Yelp
Horrible hospital I do not recommend. They are not going to treat your emergency they have you waiting hours in a hall way.

Yelp
To: Patient Care Management Jackson South Medical Center 9333 SW 152nd St, Kendall, FL 33157 Subject: Formal Complaint - Negligent, Inhumane Treatment and Unjust Charge to a Cancer Patient (May 4, 2025) To whom it may concern, My name is Blanca Martínez, and I am the wife of Mr. José Simón García, who was taken to your facility on Sunday, May 4, 2025, due to urinating blood -- a serious and urgent medical issue. My husband is currently battling bladder cancer, and as Palmetto Bay residents, we chose Jackson South Medical Center expecting proper and compassionate medical care. What we received instead was a deeply traumatic and unacceptable experience. My husband was made to wait over six hours without being seen, with no proper updates or concern from your team. The nurses and front desk staff on the afternoon and evening shifts displayed indifference, coldness, and a shocking lack of humanity toward him. When we could no longer bear the emotional and physical neglect and decided to leave, one of the nurses ripped the IV from his arm abruptly and without care, causing unnecessary pain. This behavior was completely dehumanizing, especially toward a cancer patient who was already in distress. To make matters worse, after this appalling treatment, we were charged $200 -- a fee we find absolutely offensive and unacceptable given that we left without receiving any real medical assistance and were subjected instead to mistreatment and emotional harm. This is not just a complaint; it is a demand for accountability. We expect: 1. A full investigation into the behavior of the staff involved. 2. Disciplinary action where appropriate. 3. A formal written apology and explanation of steps being taken to prevent this from happening to another patient. 4. An immediate review and cancellation of the $200 charge, which we consider completely unjust under the circumstances. My husband is a cancer patient. He needed care and dignity. What he received at your facility was neglect, pain, and humiliation.

Atentamente, Zulily García Master of Science en Psicología Docente actual del Condado de Miami-Dade To: Patient Care Supervisor or Manager Jackson South Medical Center 9333 SW 152nd St, Kendall, FL 33157 Subject: Formal Complaint Regarding Medical Negligence and Inhumane Treatment - May 4, 2025 Dear Supervisor, I am writing to you with deep concern and disappointment regarding the unacceptable treatment my father received on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at Jackson South Medical Center. My father was taken to the hospital because he was urinating blood, a clearly urgent and alarming condition that required immediate medical attention. However, after more than six hours of waiting, he was not properly treated, nor was he given the dignity and respect that every human being deserves--especially in a medical facility. During that time, the staff on the afternoon and night shifts, including nurses and front desk personnel, demonstrated a rude, insensitive, and completely inhumane attitude. What was most disturbing is that when we finally made the difficult decision to leave due to the complete lack of attention, one of the nurses pulled out his IV abruptly and carelessly, causing him pain and adding to our distress. This level of negligence and lack of compassion has no place in a healthcare setting. It is outrageous that, while so many qualified individuals are eager to work with empathy and professionalism, there are staff members treating patients with indifference and disdain. I formally request that this complaint be taken seriously and investigated thoroughly, and that appropriate action be taken regarding the staff involved. Additionally, I would appreciate an official response from the administration, outlining the measures that will be implemented to prevent this from happening to another patient. The health and dignity of individuals must always be the top priority in any medical institution. What my father and our family experienced was painful, unjust, and unacceptable. Sincerely, Zulily García Master of Science in Psychology Current Teacher at Miami-Dade County

Yelp
My mother passed away 12/14/24 due to this Hospital's negligence and lack of care. The Neurosurgeons had no idea what they were doing. Some were rude and uncompassionate, I even had one with a terrible attitude, rolling his eyes at me that called himself a Dr. They had us in the dark with no updates about what was going on with her. 2 brains aneurysm, a number of strokes, and a heart clot and they told me my mother was doing better but she wasn't. She just kept getting worse. My mother deteriorated in a week because of this place.

Yelp
Had surgery on July, I have to say that every single staff member there is very polite, attentive and you can tell they all want to make sure you have the best and adequate care, including the medical receptionist. The professionalism of the nurses and the genuine care for the patients well-being shines from beginning to end. The surgical team receives you with positive tones and smiles that you can see even behind the masks. It makes all the difference to the nervous patients. The hospital is clean, organized and spacious. Dr. Delgado is truly amazing, not only at her profession, but also her bedside manner is impecable. Because of her, I can finally live a pain free life. Please remember to be kind and compassionate to the staff. I can assure you their intentions are to make sure that you are back to health in the safest way. Thank you Jackson South and University of Miami medical team.

Yelp
My experience in the emergency room was excellent. The staff handled everything quickly and efficiently. I was impressed by the level of care I received. Overall, I highly recommend this facility

Yelp
Where do I begin? I was admitted to Jackson South for a fractured pelvis for about 2 weeks. I was treated horrible. I couldn't walk and was forced to lay in urine and feces after pressing the call button for help, that didn't work half of the time. When a CNA finally showed up they said that I was not wet ENOUGH and one of them said that I was going to DIE! I asked to speak to the charge nurse Stephanie and Daniel who are 2 snakes in the grass and are useless. I also wasn't given my blood pressure medication on time because I was told that the nurses were busy with other patients. Most of the food that I was served was chicken, rice and carrots each and everyday. Towards the end of my nightmare my lunch and dinner was a sandwich and juice. My entire 2 weeks at this hospital I never received a bath and my hair was never washed. I was first admitted to the 2 floor where I nearly died due to the nurses putting on their makeup at the nurses station and ignoring the patients. The 4th floor was just as horrible as the second floor if not worse. I was discriminated against and abused at Jackson South. I wouldn't wish this experience on my worst enemy. Beware of Jackson South Hospital. You've been warned!

Yelp

Yelp
Was scheduled for a colonoscopy at 7:00 am 8/28. due to traffic north from Homestead to I got there at 7:10 am, after a full day prior of prep and no food & no sleep that night prior the procedure. I was waiting & waiting, when I ask at desk, I was told, all patients show scheduled at at 7:00 am. I was called in at 12:00 noon for the pre-op, 5 hours waiting. I got out around 1: pm. They told me that my medical center was the one to schedule the time. When I asked my medical center, I was told, they send the names of the patients & the hospital makes the schedule. Who do you believe????? This is unacceptable to have a patient fasting & no sleep almost 1 1/2 days to wait for the procedure for 5 hours. Help me Lord.

Yelp
The social workers and nursing staff in the behavioral health unit treat the patients with an unacceptable level of disrespect. I have heard patients being referred to as "crazy" , "a dump" , "liars" , "a sick individual" , etc. Some patients did not get the resources they needed because the staff either simply didn't feel like providing it to them or were in too much of a hurry to clock out. I have witnessed staff treat patients rudely for no other reason than they were having a bad day. I was forbidden to speak to patients about their rights. Patients are oppressed and kept uninformed intentionally. These are several violations of ethical behavior in this profession. The social workers should fired. They do not care about the patients in the behavioral health unit and are treated poorly when they are already experiencing a mental health crisis. Patients are not given compassion at a time when they need it most. I hope whoever sees this review is in a position to make changes in this unit. Because the staff is causing more harm than providing help.

Yelp
I'm sitting OUTSIDE since there is no waiting room available for families. They DO NOT allow you to sit inside and wait to see your family member. My sister gave birth here and even 8 hours after they will not allow more than 2 people inside the room. The thing is there is no waiting room for the family to wait. I was told to sit and wait OUTSIDE. It does not make sense that they have waiting rooms with chairs but they make you sit outside. They are NOT consistent and made the visit frustrating.

Yelp

Yelp
I dont write reviews often, but I just had to share the impressive care I received at Jackson South last week. I went in for knee surgery, and everyone, I mean, everyone I encountered was incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, and eager to help. They really delivered the best care I've ever received. I had a great experience. Too bad there's no option for 10 stars.

Yelp
I was in the Hospital for a gastric Sleeve. From the first time I reached out for treatment Dr. Moises Jacobs team was terrific. Cristina, Elizabeth, Ivan and Sandra; they were all exceptional. I could not ask for a better Doctor than Dr Jacobs, what a professional, secure, caring, kind and knowledgeable and great surgeon he is! I knew I was in good hands, but he exceeded my expectations. The hospital was also a great place to be, no inconvenience or complaints. I was well taking care off at every moment and I really will consider this hospital and team if you need them. Great experience. Thank You everyone.

Yelp
On 02/29/2024, I made my way to the ER due to an illness. As I arrived roughly around 8:30 am, I checked in and waited 10-15 to be seen. Once I was inside with Nurse (Camille-she was very nice and professional), I have no complaints about her). She drew my blood pressure and asked me a few questions. I was feeling very lethargic and had puked that early morning. They went ahead and drew blood, urine test, and was given IV, due to being dehydrated. So that is that. Around 9:15 am they send me to a hallway near the entrance where I sat in one of the chairs receiving IV. I was sitting there for about an hour before they called me to get a CT scan for my stomach. The process was pretty fast and easy. Once the tech finished, transport removed me from the room in a wheel chair and placed me right outside the CT scan hallway. This is where things get very frustrating, I was left in a wheelchair right in front of a garbage bin for about I want to say 30 minutes or so. Finally, a nice African American gentlemen (I believe he was transport), apologized and stated that he was sorry. He carted me off back to the main entrance where I was sat in one of the waiting room chairs. As I sat there for about 30 minutes with the needle still in my left hand. The nurse called me back inside and advised me that she needed to draw more blood due to being an error inside the lab. So she went ahead and drew blood in my right arm. After drawing blood, they sent me back to the waiting area. Mind you, they do not provide you with a room or bed the whole time you are there. It's the most uncomfortable feeling when you are feeling very lethargic and sick to sit in one of the chairs, instead of a room with a bed like Baptist does. It was around 12-12:30 pm when I became very frustrated, I was already starving and feeling very weak. I complained to someone in the front desk (no name), and advised that I needed to go, and to please remove the IV needle due to feeling very uncomfortable. If I had not complained, they would've left me sitting there waiting for a Doctor. I was very irate, and they went ahead and told me to go back inside by the nurses station to wait for the Doctor. The Doctor showed up in 15 minutes and literally spoke to me for a minute and gave me the prescription. I felt pressured and couldn't ask questions. I understand that they have to tend to other patients, but that hospital's ER is a mess and will not go back ever again. Horrible experience. I ended up leaving around 12:50 pm. I was there for about 4 hours and 20 minutes.

Yelp
Very friendly finance department, nurses, surgeons; etc. But what really really REALLY sucked was the Security guards and the one lady that was at the front desk - Wednesday 6:45am staff (look into it!). Those people don't even know how to have a conversation 1:1, they don't even acknowledge your presence when you're trying to speak to them, even when you're beyond polite they're freaking rude! The 2nd security guard that started his shift after 7:30am or so took off his mask and started coughing left and right in the lobby where several family members were. The employee kept sneezing with his mask off, too bad I couldn't get a name but it was GROSS!!! The one lady at the front desk, the rude one, gave him what I believed to be a cough drop. One doesn't go to a hospital for fun, so you expect the experience to be a smooth one at the very least, especially during COVID. But I have to say the security staff and the front desk staff I dealt with should all be fired! And do reach out if you have any questions!

Yelp
This hospital is a horrible hospital they robbed me from my birth experience. They lied to me about a drug test. I have just given birth and they lied to me saying that her pee was to test for infection. It really wasn't it was a drug test then they came the next day saying they needed to take her blood to check for infection. I got mad of course cause why did they lie to me ? Then they said I was tested positive for fentanyl and the doctor asked when they gave it to me " what medicine did you take " the one that the hospital gave me like ????? Honestly go to another hospital if you're about to give birth. They even put MY BIRTH PLACE WRONG WHEN I TOLD THEM I WAS BORN IN MIAMI ! Now I have to wait two months to get her birth certificate. DO NOT COME HERE ! You will honestly have a horrible experience. I had a miscarriage the first time I came here and I was treated WRONGLY! THIS IS A HORRIBLE HOSPITAL! Please go somewhere else. I gave this hospital another chance cause it was 15 minutes away from me, but I should have went to the one in Kendall. The OBGYN here is amazing. Alvarez is the perfect doctor to have but other then that this hospital is the worst

Yelp
I was admitted to the Jackson South Hospital yesterday early morning - almost no on in the ER when I arrived before 8am with extremely high blood pressure and chest pains. I was promptly triaged, and admitted to the ER where I spent the next 8 hours wondering if anyone would ever come and check to see if I was okay. 8 Hours no way to signal a nurse, to be able to use the bathroom because I was hooked up to all hte vital monitoring devices. It seems like the staff of nurses (and there were LOTS of them having a great time laughing and having a great time) avoided looking into any rooms as they rushed by, so that I could not flag any of them down to unhook me so that I could walk down the hall to go to the bathroom. 8 hours no one offered to get me any water or juice or anything - good thing since I couldn't get cut loose to go to the bathroom anyway! TRUST ME - I understand that ERs work on priorities of how severe someone's 'case' is - but still NO EXCUSE for a nurse (whose name was on the board on the wall - but no way to contact her) not to come in once in a while just to check on you.... I unhooked all my vital monitors, thinking someone outside the room would realize that I was not broadcasting blood pressure, O2 readings, pulse etc - but apparently all that monitoring equipment was just for looks, because even though I unhooked everything NOT ONE SINGLE PERSON CAME IN TO SEE WHY MY VITALS WERE NOT BEING TRANSMITTED/RECEIVED TO ANY NURSES' STATION!!!!! WHAT A NIGHTMARE. I requested twice for someone to take out the IV needle stuck in my arm becuase I wanted to leave after 8 hours, they said they would be right in - but 30 mins later. If I hadn't been such a chicken I would have pulled the damn IV needle out myself - applied a little pressure till it stopped bleeding and just LEFT. Bottom line- after 8 hours their discharge papers (45 pages long) repeatedly indicated .. Based on your visit today, the healthcare provider doesn't know what is causing your chest pain.... and The sharp cramping pain on either side of your lower back and nausea or vomiting that you have ...... ( I never complained about nausea and I never have vomited --- Obviously no one has the time to really create a personalize discharge document they just copy something from: © 2000-2021 The StayWell Company, LLC. Yelp
Nasty emergency room... they put all this rules when you arrive and then when you go inside is something that my pictures can explain nasty with a pandemic is something that no patients need to experience doing a pandemic and I complain and they want to kick me off the hospital security saying lies saying that I was talk loud to staff but that was a lies ... and when I complained even staff from the hospital told me that I did right because it was more than 10 hours that no one clean that bathroom and how they enforce rules when they can't clean the there own bathroom with this serious pandemic that we experience.....

Yelp
A review on behalf of my father, Armando Perez Aleman, on his recent experience getting the COVID Vaccine at Jackson South Medical Center-- Grateful and pleased with the professionalism and effectiveness of the Jackson Health System in providing the COVID-19 vaccine. The security and organization that I found at the Jackson South Medical Center was extraordinary: easy parking, good communication, fast and safe care, effective vaccination and very good care after being vaccinated, ensuring that there is no adverse reaction. Congratulations to the Jackson Health System.

Yelp
I can't begin so say how Impressed I am with the service we received at Jackson South. My husband had knee surgery with Dr. Rich last week and the care was top of the line. From the front desk staff, guest relations, the surgical services staff and the administrive team. Both my husband and I are familiar with hospitals and we have been blessed with amazing care over the years but non compares to the care he received at Jackson South. I wish all hospitals would take a page from their book!!!

Yelp
The worse place if your are expecting a baby. They have a nurse in their team , black hair, glasses , Cuban if am not wrong, the worse . I don't know where she get his title of medicine or nurse but she don't even know how computers work, she was the one who was checking me the hole time cause the doctor was attending another two women in labor. She treats me like a animal not as a human being. I will never come back there for sure. I can't even remember her name because they put me something that start giving me contractions and I was just like don't even care about nothing at that moment .I came in good conditions, (i just went because some fluid ,liquid that I am still having by the way) and I get out worse than.. A terrible night. They don't even resolve my problem and for make this worse They don't give me any papers where is supposed to say what procedures they did me that night.

Yelp
I was at Jackson south for a surgical procedure last week, everyone from the registration desk ,pre-op , Pacu , 3tower nurses and pct's were kind, considerate, helpful and respectful. The pre-op and Pacu area kept my daughter abreast of what was going on and allowed her to see me. through the night my call bell was answered timely. I was assisted as needed to ambulate. The staff was concerned about my pain. every time they came in the room they took the time to answer questions. on top of all of that dr Jaimie Carvajal is an amazing surgeon. I would highly recommend jackson south for your medical /surgical care

Yelp
Our experience here was awful. Staff places us in a room that wasn't even cleaned yet. A room with ay syringes and left over medication from a previous patient. Knowing that I was going to a Jackson Hospital I left my kids home, and with all reason. I do not recommend this hospital or staff. There is too much work, and obviously not enough staff of professional caliber. While our nurse was friendly, other staff was annoyed and careless in providing services. They even have call button disabled so that the staff is not available to provide the attention the patient needs.

Yelp
Recently I visited the ER at Jackson South Hospital & I was delighted & grateful for the speedy, detailed & kind assistance that I received. Alex attended to me upon my arrival with a professional & prompt Registration on his part turning me over to my nurse Ivy who quickly did my vitals, withdrew blood...without pain. Next, I was being attended by Mariela Guzman ARNP who gave me a complete & detailed examination. All of the above with much kindness. I was given a private ER room where Dr. Ordenes & my RN took excellent care of me. Dr. Ordenes decided to admit me which it was done promptly. I was admitted from Friday evening to Sunday evening. I was in Tower 4 & can sincerely say that the doctors & nurses that took care of treating me did it just like if they would of been taking care of their own family member. My technicians & the entire staff that helped me were exceptionally professional, efficient, caring & I am extremely grateful to each one of them. I highly recommend Jackson South Hospital for their excellence in patient care because at Jackson South Hospital the well being of the patient is their first priority. Thank you.

Yelp
Went in for a laparoscopy to diagnose & treat endometriosis. From the moment I walked in the door (really before that, with phone calls and check ins) I received some of the best care I've ever experienced or heard of. Every touch point was so intentional and helpful. I didn't feel rushed or stressed, everyone explained things incredibly well and helped me to feel calm and prepared. The staff at this medical center are the best of the best. Kind, reassuring, professional, all the things expected and above and beyond! I would choose to go here again a hundred times if needed! Not to mention, the building itself is beautiful, clean and modern and allows so much sunlight in!

Yelp
This place does not even deserve one star. I brought my grandmother in at 1:45 and until now do they register her in at 6:00 pm. Everyone here is lazy and all they do is put on a big show & give everyone a run around. This is the most inefficient ER ever. They are so LAZY. I am leaving out detail but please just know if you other options do not even bother here. Update: it's almost 12:30 am and we're still here just waiting to leave Now. :-) bathrooms are gross there's no soap or towels in one i used, the waiting room is filthy, so much more. Oh and the Dr never even came to check us out. The nurse insisted he was coming she got frustrated herself and just checked us out herself. I feel bad for the ones who work there it's so obvious they're not to fond of the organization and systems in place. Get your ISH together.

Yelp
I am only leaving two stars because they managed to be respectful. I'm not sure if it was a lack of experience that led to my symptoms not being properly investigated, or if it was the assumption that most things resolve on their own. I came in with severe, abdominal pain and aggressive vomiting and had to return after getting a fever for over a day that left me bedridden. after an entire seven days of pain and massive discomfort, and explaining that there was an issue in my abdomen, that I could feel discomfort and pain all throughout the day whether I ate or did not eat, I had to examine myself and could feel a small, intestinal bowel obstruction, even from the outside just pressing into my abdomen. They did an abdominal ultrasound which I was told by two different doctors did not look abnormal. However, my blockage was so severe I had stopped passing gas and had not gone to the bathroom in over four days. in the end, I didn't return to the ER because I didn't believe they would find the issue and assist me properly seeing as they never put me into a room and left me in the waiting room even when there were plenty of rooms to give me which makes me feel it was my lack of insurance that caused discrimination. I had to give myself an enema and put my life in danger at home with no medical help to pass the stool. without the proper medical treatment, I am hoping that I did pass the entire blockage, but it does not take away from the fact that my life was severely put in danger by the lack of attention and the medical staff assuming that because they could not find the cause immediately it was simply extreme indigestion and then when I returned with a fever, they called it a virus. they were right about the indigestion, but only because there was such a severe blockage In my upper small intestine. My food had nowhere else to go. I am severely disappointed, and in no way misunderstanding of the danger, my life was put in by being misled by the staff the only thing they did correctly was give me respect when speaking to me.

Yelp
I'm giving 1 star because I can give zero. I just went to the ER via Rescue and I was never put in a room(was told none available), instead I was taken to the ER triage area and left seating on a chair for 1 hour and half before I even got my pain medication. The admission process is horrible, nursing assessment is poor due to lack of staff or at least that's what I was told. The person doing my EKG was texting while I was waiting not knowing I I was having an MI or an abdominal aneurysm. Saw a stretcher in the hallway and put myself on it without anyone asking me anything. IV bag was hung and no one came back to check if it was finished or not, I had to literally adjust the IV dropping factor and even clamp the IV once it was finished. On top of everything took me walking to have the.X-ray done again without knowing if I was having a more serious condition. After the CT and after 8 hours waiting I was ready to be discharged when a tech from the Radiology department came to pick me up for an abdominal ultrasound something that was ordered at 4pm. End of the story I was in the ER for 8 hours and thanks god it was just gallbladder stones not a heart attack, an intestinal obstruction or and abdominal aneurysm. I will not recommend this hospital to anyone and I feel bad saying this because I delivered my baby there in 2009 and had visited it ag ain like 3 years ago and it was not like that. Hope the administration sees all these reviews and do something about it.

Yelp
It was like visiting a prison. A rude security guard is there to welcome you. I went with my 2 daughters to visit my oldest daughter after the birth of my first grandchild. Now I know and respect the security guidelines in hospitals having worked in them for years, however there's no need for such draconian restrictions. We were told only one of us can go up while the dad is there so my daughter asks "can my dad sit because he's disabled?" She said no. He has to wait outside the hospital while your upstairs. All this while they have a bunch of couches in the lobby. When we toured the facility they told us the spill over family can wait in the waiting room by the elevator. Ok, that's fine, but no, it's go wait outside with the smokers. My friend had photos of her parents and her at the bedside with their new baby at Baptist, Not here. I know some hospital liaison is going to give me a nice little, we try to serve everyone in the community with the best service BS, but we were not treated well nor with any respect. The hospital should be a little more scrutinizing before they hire just anyone with an attitude to be the face that greets you. Perhaps it wouldn't have been so bad if they were more sympathetic and welcoming before they usher you outside. That security woman should look for employment at the DMV. She'll fit right. And there it is below. The BS line

Yelp
Service in the ER department is a bit slow and they take awhile to get to you. Not the cleanest either. Try to go somewhere else if possible

Yelp
I have nothing but positive things to say about this hospital. I was there in the surgical center for a small procedure and my Head Nurse Kevin Arthur was beyond AMAZING! The nicest, most gentle man. If you're having a procedure done in this hospital I hope you have Kevin as your nurse. He will make sure you feel at ease and comfortable. 100% the BEST nurse I've encountered! Thank you Kevin Arthur for all you do for your patients!

Yelp
Excelente atención, tenía mucho tiempo si encontrar un lugar en el que me atendieran tan bien, recomendado 100%

Yelp
This place sucks. Once we had to take my son when he was 5 years old and had his temperature spike to 105. No receptionist. Nobody there for 15 minutes. Don't they shut places down for things like that? If we were to walk in severely bleeding we would have all died. Now I'm here again with severe neck pain. Again nobody at the desk. Grab a clipboard and fill it out I guess. Another 15 minutes before someone casually strolled up to the counter. "Okay we will call you when we are ready." Two other people came and filled out clipboards too- how do they know who was here first? It's the closest to my house so I had to come here but I might even leave and go to Baptist. Nobody here seems to care about their job or their patients. Update- got seen by a doctor who told me I have torticolis. A muscle relaxer should fix the problem but I need to avoid sitting up for long periods of time. Then she sends me to the waiting room where I sat in a hard chair for over an hour waiting on a prescription. It was 2:45 in the morning by then and I just wanted to go home. I told the nurse I was just going to leave and that I was tired of waiting. I just got "OK". Will never make the mistake of going here again.

Yelp
Ted Iturrioz. Seven days ago I was blessed by been able to do my Revisional Gastric Sleeve Surgery (original surgery was 11 years ago) by the most incredible team headed by what I consider one of the best doctors I have ever dealt with, Dr. Moises Jacobs. I have no words to describe his compassion, attention to details and the kindness he gives his patients, are just one of the few qualities that makes him the best. His team practice his same principles and philosophy making you always feel like you are part of their family. Since the day after my surgery I felt great, like if I never had any procedure done. It's amazing. Seven days after surgery friends and family are already seeing the results and commenting my how noticeable results are happening right in front of them, I have lost over 12 lbs. If you are thinking about this procedure, I strongly recommend you get it done, You will feel like a brand new person with a new life, but do me a favor, make sure you see Dr. Jacobs and his team first. Start living life, Happy Holidays and God Bless!!!!

Yelp
Save yourselves and go to another hospital. SEVEN hours waiting. All they did was labs. I was in pain the entire time. The bathrooms were disgusting. If I wasn't sick before, I got sick in the bathrooms. Grosssss. The only thing positive I can say, was the one nurse who got the doctor to see me for half a minute. I never saw him again. I left. I went to another emergency room. I was in and out and every one was great. Jackson South sucks.

Yelp
I came here long ago as a child and haven't been back since my recent visit for my first dose of the vaccine. The whole process went smooth and was very quick considering the amount of people present. I loved the knowledgeable and respectful vibe that the staff gave me especially since im scared of needles personally. The whole process from identifying me and confirming my address to keeping social distance when waiting for my turn for the vaccine. When seated for the shot I had the pleasure of talking with probably the most charismatic firefighter ever and he was very good at calming me down after I mentioned my fear. I definitely loved that they ask us to wait 15 minute after the shot to see of any reactions or complications emerge from the vaccine dosage which was very thoughtful of them. Over 10/10 experience and I cannot wait to go for my second dosage and see the smiling staff once again.

Yelp
Don't come here expecting any kind of compassion from anyone at Jackson South. They don't seem to care about their patients or their families. They unnecessarily make an already stressful situation, so much more stressful by making you jump through all these arbitrary hoops just to get in to see your loved one. I completely understand the need for precautions in an age of COVID, but it seems that Jackson South is exploiting the pandemic to create an additional hurdle to keep family members away from their loved ones. It's a constant battle everyday to be put on the "list" to see my loved one who's in ICU all alone. Everyday you have to call to be put on the list to see your loved one but everyday you must be "approved" by some nameless administrator before you can be let in to see anyone. There's no rhyme or reason behind what qualifies someone for approval, or how long before you're actually approved. The time needed for "approval" varies depending  on who's working that day and whether they take the time to send an email "approving" you to see your loved one. Again, I am all for doing what's best for the health and well being of both patients and staff, but these "approvals" have nothing to do with COVID or safety. It's all about control and creating obstacles for families that come to visit their loved ones. If you want to restrict the number of guests, fine. If you want to limit guests to just immediate family, that's fine too. But this grueling "list" process we have to go through daily, is emotionally draining and quite unnecessary. We're a year into the pandemic, with PPE, safety protocols, and vaccines available to all. Perhaps it's time to revisit these archaic policies that make no sense. Your patients and their families deserve better than this.

Yelp
On the night of Sunday, October 16, 2022, I had a terrible accident in our home on Duck Key. I fell down a flight of stairs, headfirst, hitting a wall with my forehead. The impact was so great, that I opened a hole on the wall with my head! My wife called fire rescue, and I was airlifted from the Keys to Jackson South Hospital Trauma Unit. I ended up needing 22 stiches on my forehead, and with the C3 & C4 vertebrates fractured. Luckily, I was not paralyzed and didn't need surgery. I cannot say enough good things about how well I was treated at JSH! From the moment I arrived in the trauma unit, I was immediately attended by the medical staff there. They conducted themselves in a very professional and caring manner. I don't think I was there even 1 hour, before I was all stitched up, and with CT scan results indicating that I wasn't going to need surgery on my spine, (which I was very relieved to hear!). I want to commend JSH for providing me with such great care, and for having such a wonderful and professional medical staff. Particularly, I want to recognize a person by the name of Wilson, who treated me with such great care and compassion, (don't know his last name, and I'm not sure what his position is. He mentioned he was Puerto Rican and spoke perfect Spanish & English). Wilson went out of his way to talk to me and calm me down as he was wheeling me to different units of the hospital. Thank you JSH for taking such good care of me!

Yelp
I am a health worker at another hospital in Miami Dade County and I have to say the treatment and care that my fiance received today is appalling. She is a cancer patient presenting with A painful mass near her groin the had her in tears for 36 hours at home. She waited 3 hours Just to get an I.V line put in, but no medications until she was finally put in a bed (in the hallway) at the 4 hour mark. She waited a total of 6 hours to finally get a CT scan just to be told by Dr Cordova that "I have given you meds for your pain, but you need to follow up with your Oncologist, this is your problem and I did my job". Not to mention the worst bedside manner did not even touch her to examine her just simply asked her where it hurt and issue allergic to anything. Unbeknownst to him I was on the phone the whole time and heard his DISGUSTING deplorable lack of empathy bedside manner. I will be bringing this to the attention of the administration of Jackson South medical center. Not only because my fiance is a stage 4 terminal cancer patient but because no person no human being in pain deserves to get this type of treatment. Again the name is CORDOVA of the attending. At least his APRN was gentle, warm and attentive.

Yelp
Just got my parents their Covid vaccine shots at Jackson South. The process was organized and orderly with virtually no wait. We had an appointment and we were done in under an hour. Best of all the staff was kind, compassionate and simply awesome. Very thankful to all the nurses and firefighters involved in the process.

Yelp
This hospital might not look very nice on the outside and might have a bad reputation cause well...Jackson, but I had a ok experience. I had a little trouble finding parking as there are arrows for visitor parking but no arrows for like a garage parking. I honestly couldn't tell you where that is because I couldn't find it. I was able to find parking in front of the main entrance but after going around in circles for a little bit of time. Coming inside the entrance is absolutely beautiful and the check in process was easy and the security was pretty friendly. I also easily found the area I needed to go with the directions from the front desk. Since I was going to the adult behavioral unit, they are very restrictive, which should be expected. I honestly have never seen a unit more secure. A person comes out to let you into a small room, then opens the door where lockers are to put your belongings in. Once everything is out of your pockets, they lock everything and then open the door. You have to sign in and sign out, as well. The nurses were helpful and it was a pretty well staffed unit. When I went they were pretty busy but still had all the documentation and places for me to sit and talk with my patient.
